Low Batt and CM9 issues - Droid 2 Global General

So a friend of mine gave me his old d2g to play with since I've hated my revolution since I got it.
I was playing with some different roms and I really like the CM9 build. Everything works very well except location services and one other major issue. I can reboot the phone and everything is fine. If I shut down the phone, on power up the phone gets stuck on the red M logo screen and that's it. The only way to recover the phone is to reflash 629, re-root, reinstall cm9, etc, etc. Is there a fix for this?
The other big issue is that sometime last night my phone must have reset itself or something. I woke up with it on the red M logo screen. Even though it was plugged in the battery must not have been charging. Now all I can do it get into the bootloader but the bootloader is complaining the battery is too low to program.
What do I do now?
Thanks,
Michael

Update
Update:
Well I got the low battery issue sorted so I was able to SBF the phone.
But I am still having issues with CM9. Any help here? The phone works great until power off or attempting to boot to CWM. Then the phone just freezes at the red M logo screen and I have to start all over.

Update again: I think I solved the CM9 power off problem. I hate it when problems get solved but the solutions never get posted, so here are the steps:
1: Restore 629 sbf
2: Root
3: Install CWM Droid 2 bootstrap
4: Boot to CWM
5: Format System
6: Wipe/Factory reset
7: Wipe Cache
8: Install ROM - do NOT install gapps yet!
9: Reboot
10: Set up most of phone
11: Reboot into CWM
12: Install gapps-ics-20120422-signed - Do NOT use 429
13: Reboot
14: Let phone complete update process
15: Enjoy
I have no idea why that order worked for me and I have no idea why gapps 429 would not work for me. But after 1 day and a half it's working and I am happy. The phone is now very nice. This ROM rocks!

Glad you got everything sorted out, that sounds miserable to have to SBF your phone every time it resets or the battery dies. Welcome to the D2G party even though a little late. So CM9 is pretty dang smooth, battery life isn't the best for me and I don't know if you noticed if you have it set to auto brightness the keyboard back lights stay on whenever the phone is on. Just a heads up.

Late to the party? I would say I showed up after everyone already went home.
Hmm interesting. I have noticed that battery life isn't the greatest and MMS doesn't seem to work.
Mine doesn't seem to be leaving they keyboard backlights on in auto brightness mode though.
So far I am pretty happy with this ROM. Huge improvement over stock.

Ya, I guess you are correct that pretty much everyone is gone, hahaha.
There is an MMS fix you just have to manually enter in the settings to get it to work, I'm guessing you have Verizon right? It is an issue with CM9 not putting in the APN settings for MMS to send over the internet check out this thread and you will be good to go :good:
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/24897-mms-fix-for-aokpcm9-gummy-and-any-other-ics-based-2nd-init-roms/
Off the subject, if you enjoy playing emulators on your phone for SNES, NES or Genesis one of the benefits of having the qwerty keyboard is you can purchase a rubber gamepad that fits over the keyboard called Game Gripper, than it's like having a portable little gaming machine for old school games.
Edit: One more thing, I just found this thread yesterday and it is supposed to help with battery life, so none of the Cyanogenmods have governors other than ondemand, performance, and userspace. Over on Rootzwiki this person created conservative, smartassv2 and interactive. Just dload them and flash the zip through CWM, I just flashed conservative lastnight so I don't the battery life difference yet but here is that thread http://rootzwiki.com/topic/10911-co...e-interactivex-and-smartass-v2-cpu-governors/
good luck

Sweet! Thanks for the links. I will definitely be trying that out.

I just got a problem recently with my d2g where it heats up and drains battery like crazy. It usually happens after I have it plugged in for a while and then unplug it, and better battery stats tells me it's a usb kernel wakelock, but that shouldn't be happening while the phone unplugged. Anyone else experience this before?

Nice try LG, but, it's not quite ready for prime time!

I've been through 2 G2x's , both have had the same problems...
Random reboots
Random freezes
Random shutdowns
Crazy inconsistencies in battery life
I've also gone the route of rooting and trying CyanogenMod with the same results.
With the battery issues, I did the following test 3 nights in a row.
Phone wiped, 100% battery charge, signed into Google and let the apps download, rebooted phone, data connection turned off (airplane mode), unplugged the phone and set in the exact same spot in the same room 3 nights in a row at 11PM.
Come 8AM when I woke here's the results:
Day 1: 30% battery remaining
Day 2: 80% battery remaining
Day 3: 0% remaining - battery was stone cold dead - wouldn't boot until I plugged in.
Phone was fine when I started typing this post, but just now while typing this message I reached over to check my phone for text messages (I keep the alerts volume all the way down while at work) and it's locked up again...
Guess I'll be returning the phone for a refund and borrowing an old flip phone for a month until the Sensation comes out.
Sorry LG - when it works, it works AWESOME, but I need something a bit more reliable considering that work needs to contact me on the phone and I am on call 24/7 !
In the 2 weeks I've had it I've only had 2 random freezes and no other issues at all. This is my first android phone and the thing i see that's screwed up with android is it leaves applications open, there is no exit buttons on apps. I've been using juice defender and uninstalling any apps that keep popping back up after ending task on them.
Sorry to hear about your problems. You're doing the right thing by returning it and getting another phone. I don't understand why people have loyalties to corporations who could give 2 craps about you. Buy what works for you and makes you happy.
For me, the occassional reboot on the G2X is a pain but the promise of a stable CM release and an official gingerbread release on this hardware has me sticking it out. Can't wait
I haven't had any issues with my phone except battery life. Buy my battery life isn't as bad as yours. It used to be horrible but I got a new sim and that seemed to make it better.
Regarding the reboots, some apps are causing the phone to reboot. Either the apps aren't optimized for the phone or the other way around. I had one reboot and after I removed the offending app, never happened again.

Actually, when I bought the phone I had them put a brand new SIM card as mine was getting to be a little long in the tooth - if getting a new one helps the situation I'd hate to see how it was with my old one :-D
Removing an offending app would prove to be a real problem for me though, as everything that I install has a legitimate work-related function.
im returning mine today for a newer batch one. its may 4 so i expect one that has the date of 4/24 and up as stated in other threads. mine reboots and freezes during random functions.
I ordered mine on the 20th so the day the phone was out in the store. I had to order mine online since i am a T-Mobile RSA. I have alittle screen bleed but not much. I will be doing exchanges until i get one with no bleed. Other wise i have had no problems at all. No reboots, lock ups, data problems, nothing the phone is rock solid. I love the phone. Every person that has come into my store with problems i have told them that T-Mobile is going to exchange this for you under the lifetime warranty if you have it for the life of you having the phone. So you have nothing to worry about. The phone is a great phone to have. Do the exchanges until you get a working one. I know i would do it until i did. Even if it meant doing it 100 times.

A better test would have been to not install any apps. Then you could truly test your phone and not some rogue app, that you keep installing.
I'm about to do a complete wipe again and use a secondary Gmail account I have so to eliminate any apps from auto-installing and test throughout the day since I have my work PC handy.
or just skip the Gmail sign in process at first and add your Gmail account later from Settings. This will prevent it downloading your apps on first boot.
Also to the New Android User: Back closes apps, Home leaves them open. It isn't the OS's fault if you don't know how to use it.
To the OP: Have you rooted and flashed the Pre-Dexopt Patch from Paul?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1051616
LG left the phone in Dev mode and doesn't dexopt the phone on initial bootup. This is why our phones boot so quickly. The downfall is after a few hours, it starts to lag out and lock up/reboot.
Sounds exactly like the problem you are having.
This patch is required for stock and EaglesBlood Roms excluding CM7. This should be fixed in the upcoming Gingerbread update. I also believe EaglesBlood and future roms will start coming with this patch included.
So do yourself a favor and patch it.
Basically, it's an awesome phone and many, if not all, of the issues should be resolved with software updates. Gingerbread is already in the works.

Yep, have tried without the patch initially and then with it.
I have signed in with the secondary Gmail account - only thing I imported from the original was my contacts, so, it's 100% stock with the exception of Paul's patch and recovery.
I'll be damned...
In an attempt to preemptively find out what I would need to return the accessories I ordered for the phone just in case I took the plunge and returned the phone, I was on hold with T-Mobile...
And while on hold, I grabbed my phone - and SURE ENOUGH - LOCKED UP HARD!
So, I guess this just made up my mind for me - I'll be returning this phone to point of purchase. Just need to use NAND to restore the stock backup , reflash stock recovery and unroot...
I am planing to return this phone too..
It seems the phone shut down completely for no reason, sometimes the screen doesn't wake up even tho phone is running in background.
So far i have tried to run completely stock with no apps installed no sync nothing and i was getting battery like 6-7 hrs.
I guess that was not acceptable for me.
I might have to wait till HTC Sensation comes out. What you think guys ?
Mine works fine, no problems at all, yes the screen bleeds a bit, but I can deal with that.

That's where my money is going...
my understanding is the sensation is locked down that's why cyan isn't going to get it. Which also means no dev support.
The MyTouch 4G and G2 were locked down too... Unless they are going to lock the bootloader?

HTC announced an update to the Sensation in Q3 that will include a NFC chip to match the features of the SGS2. I'm also guessing they'll increase the amount of RAM in the phone to make it more competitive. If the 2.3.3 update makes the G2X stable I may keep it until later in the year. If the Sensation comes out before they update the G2X I'll get Sensation. I need a phone that's consistently dependable and in that regard the G2X is a mess. I can't do custom ROMs because I travel globally and everyone I've ever used has always given me problems registering on foreign networks so CM7 is no silver bullet for me. It's a shame too because the G2X hardware (bleeding screen excepted) is pretty slick and it's really fast when the planets line up and everything works. Sigh.

[Q] phone turning off randomly

Hi, I have searched all over this forum and Google, and tried every solution on offer, but to no avail. My last resort before condemning the phone is to see if anyone has any bright ideas.
Basically every time I flash a new ROM the phone is fine for a couple of days, then it starts switching off randomly this gets more frequent over the next couple of weeks, until it becomes unusable. I have tried different Sim cards, different sd cards, no sd card at all. Complete wipe of everything including sd card. Running with no apps and everything stock except signing into Google. I have tried sense roms and non sense based roms on ginger bread and ics. Everything works fine except for this problem. I feel it's not a hardwear problem due to it being ok for a few days after new flash.
My current ROM is the stock ruu, which is on its way to getting bad again after flashing it last weekend. I received the small update to the settings today which added the missing 3rd party app option, it hasn't switched off since then, but then it had only been a few hours, I am not hopeful!
I haven't tried a new battery as the battery life seems fine, and it turns off sometimes when sat on the desk, so not a loose connection or anything also the way it gets worse in time after a fresh install. Have tried the setting network to gsm only and other network options, but no luck.
I really hope someone can suggest something as I love this phone, but it is pretty useless to me, I use it for phone calls at work a lot and as it is have no idea if it is off or on in my pocket.
Cheers in advance for any help
Tom
Oh yeah, I bought the phone second hand so a return to get it fixed isn't really an option
Ok when you boot into the Hboot screen does it say S-off or does it still say S-on. If it still says S-on then the previous owner probably used HTC Dev to unlock the bootloader and not Revolutionary. If this is the case then click on the link in my signature that says "S-off explained". Maybe this will shed some light on things and maybe it will help you fix your issue. But do not just rule out a hardware issue as bad NAND blocks can cause this same issue sometimes.
Hi, i had the same problem and bought a new battery. Since the battery change everything is working and had no rnd turn off since then.
Cheers for the replies.
I got S-OFF on the phone, as far as I remember via revolutionary. It says Pyramid pvt ship s-off rl. With locked at the top, as far as I can tell from reading this is normal?
I really hope its not something inside the phone that I can do nothing about, would be an expensive mess for me to find myself in!
I will try ordering an ankar battery, they seem cheap, and worth it any way, if it solves my problem, then even better.
Cheers for both your replies, I will continue the hunt.
i have the same problem...but when i torn on the phone the battery are drasticaly down!
i have a S-ON Sensation with stock Gingerbread
Photo
https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=3606553412294&set=p.3606553412294&type=1&theater
I've got a similar problem, I'm S-ON, ICS Vodafone but it was happening before the update too.
It seems much more likely to happen for me when on lower battery levels, and something like the camera flash firing will often turn it straight off.
As mentioned above when it comes back on the battery level is way down on what it was/should be. It also seems more likely to occur after it's happened once in a day and sometimes I'll only get halfway through unlocking the phone before it turns straight off again.
It never happens while charging - pulling the battery and reinserting it after a restart seems to make it more reliable and makes the correct battery level come back up.
Seems to me like it may be a battery issue but as I'm having some other issues too I'm sending it back to HTC and going to see what they say/do, if I get it back and still have problems I'll buy an Anker.
Its a battery problem guys. Glad Im not the only one.
See my problems here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604924
But after some scouting around its a battery fault. Cant wait to order a new batt this week. Phone is driving me crazy

Try the calibration charge ur phone for 5 H's continous without intrabtion even it shows u that it's full charged donot unblog it from charging cost green lite is fake after that do battery status wipe from battery calibration application from market then use ur mobile till 0% then do full charge again like 1st time after 3to4time you'll see the deffrence thanks to mike1986 for helping

I had this problem but came to the conclusion that it was the SIM rather than the battery - ran the phone for a day or two without a SIM and it never shut down, then when I reinserted the SIM (and took more care to ensure it was correctly inserted) I haven't had the problem since.
Might be worth looking at?

so how i agree with u , coz i tried this 1 when my phone was shutting down 10 time an hour and it didn't shut down but the battery drain still there until i did the battery calibration thing & it's ok now..
yeah I don't think the power off thing has anything to do with battery drain, but often the battery readout will stabilise after a few charges and discharges - after resetting battery stats the readout can often be a bit erratic.
It might be.right.. but he Still have a battery drain issue he must calibrate the battery. Tucker to hit thanks

Will try the sim thing, but my battery is comletely goosed.
Tells me I have 40% and then shuts down. Restart and its saying empty
hey for those of you using ICS Rom's make sure you have updated your Firmware/Bootloader to the newest version. I was having the same problem with my phone for the last week. Would randomly shut off even if battery was 60 percent and then start into bootloop with random battery percentages shown. Someone on the Insertcoin Sense 4 thread suggested I update my Bootloader and it seems to have fixed my problem.
Link to upgrade firmware is:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767
Make sure you download the latest one (3.32)
UPDATE: Problem hasn't been solved...just took a while for it to return. Not sure what's wrong and I'm really annoyed that I can't figure it out. Kinda disappointed that the new battery hasn't fixed your phone Tombon26, I was just about to go buy a new battery myself. Really hope someone can help with this.
So a new battery hasn't cured the problem. Will try the calibration, although I have done it before, but can't remember if it was before my problems.
I am a bit confused by the upgrading firmware because I have the official HTC ruu on my phone, which I thought was the newest of everything, and haven't rooted the phone since, so I thought this would make the phone as close to stock as possible without s-on.
As far as I can tell my battery doesn't randomly jump down after it switches off. Not sure if this is a good sign or not!
So frustrating the whole thing.
Cheers for peoples contributions

Phone randomly shuts down

Everything was fine on the phone until I tried out AOKP 4.2.2 alpha 2 a week ago, When I had the rom installed the phone would randomly shut down. I thought it was because the rom was not stable enough so I flashed CM9. On CM9 the phone would shut off every five minutes it was that bad. I then installed Miktouch 0.7 and the shutdowns for the most part stopped. The phone will shut down now and again and it always shuts down after I use youtube for 10+ minutes or use the camera for several minutes.
I tried to revert to stock and see if that fixed anything but when I boot into the bootloader it looks for PG59IMG and says no image found and nothing happens. I got the PG59IMG from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1878329
Any help is appreciated.
I swear it sounds mechanical...maybe battery related. Just starting out of the blue like that and it being cross ROM and all. It should just flash that file automatically from hboot though. Are you sure you copied the file to the root of your SD card? Did you relock your bootloader with *fastboot oem lock* before running it? Sometimes it doesn't like it if the usb cable is still plugged in. (for some weird reason) If you're still S-On, did you flast the boot.img file thru adb with *fastboot flash boot boot.img* after flashing your ROM?
Oh yeah, you won't be able to flash that PG59IMG if it is newer than the hboot version listed in your bootloader right now. That is until you get S-Off with the wire trick.
Check some of that stuff out & get back to us.
I agree it sounds mechanical, most likely a bad battery.
I confronted similar behavior over the weekend and a testing with a new battery allowed me to point a finger at an older, aftermarket battery as causing the shutdowns.
Sorry for the delay in the reply - real life got in the way.
I thought it was also mechanical but the shut downs are MUCH less frequent in Miktouch than on ICS roms so I thought it may have to do partially with the software.
I'm S-off, used the revolutionary method years ago. Never issued the "fastboot oem lock" command and I've never done anything related to fastboot. The stock image was in the root of the sd card.
When the phone does shut down it doesn't matter if take out the battery or do anything else, I can't get the phone to start back up until 20 mins later or so. The phone will certainly shut down if I use the camera or use youtube so if there is a way I can grab a log or something that could help let me know
I've had very similar issues, since installing a CM 10 alpha, and now on 10.1. The first couple weeks when I first rooted/flashed CM 10 were fine, but then it started rebooting one day, and never has stopped. Stock battery, no reboots prior to that, S-On, flashed the boot.img for each rom, and it's doing this with both CM 10 and CM 10.1. Does that also sound like battery, since it's the stock battery which has always worked fine? Also, it seems heat/intensity related - if I'm playing a game, using GPS, or talking a long time, that's when it tends to happen, and then it tends to happen right at/near the lock screen for a while after that until it's cooled down (perhaps that screams battery, but since it always restarts fine/has power I would have guessed it had to do with the processor or kernel). Thanks in advance for any advice!
Could be the battery...
I agree with the other posters. I had the experience of lots of random reboots a while back when I was working my way through sverhagen's 9.1r3+ ROMs. But, it just turned out that my stock battery had given up the ghost. Swapping to one of the gold batteries fixed the problem. I tried the stock battery in the interim for a brief stint and switched back to the gold, as the stock battery still caused random reboots. So maybe its time for a battery refresher

i've been having some shut down issues for a while, on different ROMs so I don't think it's that. whenever i'm using it i don't have any issues (unless it's a known ROM thing, that's separate). even during the day when i'm not using it, it hasn't shut down or anything. the issue is that a lot of times when i wake up, i find that the phone has been shut down. i charge it overnight. so, my best guess is that i should stop doing that, maybe the battery is bad, it can't handle that for that long?
idk any ideas would be helpful. i'm considering buying a gold battery anyway
Did you try the new Battery ?
I was have random shutdown and lockup problems. The phone would lock with a blank screen and I'd have to pull the battery to get it back.
Am running SilverL's CM 10.1. I might be a coincidence, but I backed off on the aggressiveness of the CPU settings (in the performance menu) and the problem went away.
I'm currently running a min/max = 128/1242.
I'm trying not to post a new thread so I'll post my very similar problem.
I got this phone about a year ago. I put Miktouch on it and was experiencing random shut downs all the time. I believe I posted on here and I can't remember the responses. As the mytouch q kinda sucks and I want a solid phone. I gave it another attempt this time with CM 9.1.0. When I used the camera once it shut down and restarted I think. Then I got a solid few days before it started going wanky again. Today alone I've had like 5 restarts. From what I've searched around it seems the problem here is the battery? This is stock battery and I got the phone used off ebay. I think I used stock rom like a week before rooting and putting Miktouch on it.
edit: For some odd reason my background also changed. Charged the phone backup. It turned off again.
If you've flashed any ROMs here to the MyTouch Q then that's your problem. It isn't this phone. These forums are for the HTC MyTouch 4G Slide. A much more powerful phone with a different manufacturer & motherboard. If you have S-Off go to their forums, wipe...wipe...wipe & reflash one of their ROMs. You're lucky you're not bricked.

I know. I'm talking about two different phones in the same post. I bought this phone (Mytouch 4g Slide) last summer but shortly started having problems. As I didn't want to deal with it I went back to my slowly dying touchscreen on my G2. When that finally died (touchscreen) I just bought a mytouch q as I wanted a phone that worked. This was my first new phone in a long time.
I am NOT trying to install any roms for the MyTouch Q on the MT4GS or the other way around.
S-OFF should be off on the 4G slide. Pretty sure my mytouch Q is still rooted though. It sucked at running CM 9
Sorry. Somehow I got confused. That being the case, it sure does sound like some type of a hardware issue instead of a software one.

Yeah, from what I read it could be a battery problem. Going to go with this Anker battery as its the only reliable battery I can find that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
Anker Battery
Yeah I'd start with a new battery myself, either a new OEM or an anker, both are cheap on eBay. Also look for a post where me and weekends were discussing the emmc of this phone, bear in mind I have zero proof, but I got a suspicion there may be multiples they put in here and some worse than others.
If the battery won't work then I would repartition the whole dang thing, either by returning to stock and the rerooting and resoff, or by at least flashing the same bootloader on top of the one you currently have.
Just some ideas, but if you want a better idea of what's causing your issue, pull a logcat

I have a theory of whats causing it. If I extensively use the phone the battery warms up which gets to the point it shuts down. Thus if the battery is still too warm and I turn the phone on then it will just keep shutting down. Of course I can't do this until I'm home for the day as I'm out and about this weekend.
edit:
I used the Revolutionary way to turn s-off which is permanent.
I get random shut downs constantly. Usually atleast 3-4 times a day. It's pretty nerve racking. I honestly don't think it's the battery, I've experienced this issue on three different batteries and it happened on all of them. It's not ROM related either as I've tried probably 15 different ROMs (stock based, ICS, JB) and they all have this issue.
My buddy who has a Sensation also has this issue on his phone. Maybe it's a problem for that phone too since they are pretty similar?

Odd Battery Problem

OK I HAVE searched the forums, but it seems this is a combination of a bad battery and/or the sudden death problem, however, the phone is less than 6 months old, the problems have all of a sudden appeared and I was able to get the phone back up an running so now I don't know what to think.
In the past week, I have noticed my GS3 just completely shuts off without warning even though it displays the battery at about 20%. When I plug it in and restart the phone, it shows 0% and charging. This has happened about 5 times now in the past week or so. Today, it happened again, but I was in the car. I tried to use my friend's car charger and it didn't seem to work. The phone kept buzzing like it wanted to turn on or charge but it wouldn't. I got home after a few hours and plugged it in. I tried to start it and it got past the SAMSUNG screenand then to the splash screen but it hung at the splash screen and would not boot up. I tried several times to boot, did a battery pull, even wipes the caches. No luck. Finally I went into recovery and did a complete wipe and restored a backup from March. I got the phone back up and running and all my apps are updated.
Does this make any sense?
Why all of a sudden would the phone misrepresent the battery life at 20% when its 0%?
Why would this 20% issue only start this week?
Why would the phone not even be able to boot up after going to 0%?
A bad battery seems unlikely since the phone is less than six months old and the sudden death issue is unlikely because I was able to restore with a recovery backup.
Any help would be appreciated. I am running Synergy ROM Nightly JB (r169) and the kernel is [email protected] #011013 from January 10, 2013.
Thanks,
Jim
Phone maybe not reading battery correctly? If it happens again, I would try wiping battery stats in recovery
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
Hi thanks for the reply, but I'm pretty sure wiping the battery stats doesn't actually do anything. I'm not sure why there would be the option to do it in the first place but most battery issue posts in the forums indicate that wiping battery stats is a falacy.
Thanks anyway,
Jim
deleting batterystats.bin fixed this problem for me. it wont hurt your phone.
I charged to 100%, deleted batterystats.bin, drained to 0%, charged up to 100%, never had the issue again.
youre right it doenst improve anythign battery life or anythig, but it can still fix problems.
Out of curiosity, why are you still on 169?
443 is out, and running real nice
With that being said, if this is an OEM battery (or if it's not,) it could be that the battery is the issue.
I always have a couple of spare OEM batteries on hand for extra juice if the need arises, and they come in handy if I ever have to isolate a battery issue.
You can always pick one up for about $20, and see if it is your original battery which is the culprit.
Btw, here is pretty much the gold standard on batteries.
It is an excellent reference, makes for some good reading, and can come in handy
It includes a whole lotta info on Lithium ion batteries, which is the chemistry used in modern cell phones/smartphones, and a lot of other applications.

OK I'll check it out. I am still on 169 because it works and I didn't want to fiddle around with it too much. I looked at the new features and there really isn't anything I'm missing. Also, I have Google Wallet working well without any issues and I did not want to screw up Wallet by upgrading. I'm waiting for 4.2 to come out with Touch Wiz (I actually like TW) and then I will upgrade... unless there is a new feature I'm not aware of?

Regarding any new features in SynergyROM r443, I would recommend reading the Changelog here, as there's been a few

If I do a dirty install, will Google Wallet remain or would I need to disable my Wallet account, and then go thru the whole install process again?

hmmm. the download for R443 doesn't seem to be working... I just get a spinning circle after the mirror link appears but the download never starts. I guess I'll try it again later.

Nexus n00b, don't know what I'm doing wrong..

I just got a Nexus 5 for cheap, advertised on eBay as "Battery Drain Issue", I looked into it, found a few fixes, figured for the price, I could get my money back in parts so I bought it. Now that I have it and have used it for a week it quickly became my daily and I want to keep it so now some of the "bugs" are problems.
Battery Drain Issue
Obviously, there's a battery drain issue, first off, when I got it, booted it, it had a little unlocked lock under Google on boot, so I know it was tampered with, next that gave it away was it had Android 5.0.1 on it, downloaded root checker, no root, but some how SuperSU was installed as a system app that I can't delete. After some reading on here I found out this is a result of Rooted 4.4.4, and then an OTA update of 5.0 or 5.0.1 breaking root but not getting rid of system installed apps from when root was flashed. So this means even a factory reset from Settings or a wipe in recovery isn't going to get rid of SuperSU because it's embedded in the firmware itself so it'll be reflashed with it, only method is a full wipe and stock install with new firmware from Google.
So, I downloaded the 5.0.1 update from the Googles, rebooted into bootloader, plugged in USB, came up as Android with a yellow triangle on it in device manager, installed a driver I found online (not the google one from Android SDK because it didn't do anything), reads as ADB device now, ADB works, clicked the flash-all.bat, everything is going good, and then can't find system.img, did more looking into it, found a great thread somewhere on here on exactly how to make Windows 8.1 play nice with it's new friend Nexus 5, extracted the files from the zip that was in the zip from Google. Made a new batch file telling it to install the .img separate and do a full wipe and wipe cache after and reboot the phone on it's own, after it rebooted, it was at the setup screen, I rebooted back to bootloader, my batch file finished it's script by locking the bootloader and rebooting for me again, I set it up, charged it all night, next day at work I got 7 hours, had to plug it in before I left work, once it was charged after work, brightness was on full now that I'm outside and I got 4 hours.
I found a BUNCH of tips on battery life so I disabled Bluetooth, disabled GPS, disabled scanning for WiFi, bought GSAM Pro. Android System and Screen are using almost all the battery, using GSAM I found out that Android System and WiFi are actually using it all, Screen is a close third, but for some reason Android's Battery Usage under settings is hiding WiFi battery usage from me, not sure why, maybe they know of this issue and they don't want to address it yet? Android 5.1 fix perhaps?
Anyway, I've been dealing with the quick drain battery issue by getting a portable battery pack, I get almost 3 charges out of it on the go if I turn the phone off while it's charging.
Bluetooth Issue
Now the next issue is Bluetooth, I tried on 3 vehicles, all of them don't work with this phone, they work with the Note 3 (sometimes) and Xperia's (everytime), but not this one which sucks because I like this one the best and want to take it with me all the time. I get nothing, it won't even connect, I even tried doing another full wipe to Android 5.0.1, and clearing all Bluetooth devices from my headunit so only the Nexus 5 was the option it was trying to connect to.
It finds the device, says Nexus 5 and then a randomly generated number, same number appears on the phone so I tell it it's correct, tell headunit it's correct, tries to connect, phone asks if this is a trusted device, I add it to trusted devices list, wait about a minute, and then it fails, every.. single.. time.. I even tried leaving the trusted device thing to see if it connects first and it fails, and if a decline trusted device, it fails instantly. So I know the trusted device aspect is working, it just won't pair.
Aesthetics Issue
The 3rd and 4th "issues" aren't really problems, it's more like coping with OCD because I want a round battery icon with the percent in the middle on the statusbar, and the only way I know how is root, xposed, and gravitybox. The only issue with this is with the bootloader unlocked, I get to see a gross unlock icon on boot every morning which ruins the nice minimalistic look and that's one of the reasons I absolutely love this phone. If I could find a way to unlock bootloader but hide that unlock icon on boot I would be set. But I haven't found a way to do this yet. So for now, this is something that bothers me about the device is I can't make it look pretty, without making it look ugly, kind of a catch 22..
Now I just copied over my batch file to have the correct file names for 4.4.4 which I just downloaded from Google and I'm going to revert back to that, disable the update notification telling me I need the lollipops, and use that for tomorrow to see if any of this improves, but, keeping in mind, I would prefer to be on Android 5.0.1, the eye candy is very appealing to me for using this over the Xperia Z
I'm mostly just going back to 4.4.4 to see if Bluetooth works and if battery life improves so I can narrow it down between either device issues or firmware issues.
I know it's a lot to read, but I didn't want to make 3 separate threads
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm new to Nexus and really don't have a clue what I'm doing lol
I'd say it's worth opening the phone to see if the hardware has been tampered with. If I'm not mistaken, the battery cover has a bluetooth sticker sensor on it near the rear camera hole next to the flash.
Also, the battery may have been abused by leaving the phone charging after reaching full capacity. I know there have been articles/forums that insist it wouldn't degrade the battery but it sure killed the battery on my Logitech G930 headset. I try my best to take care of my battery powered devices and i see a noticeable difference.

There's an easy solution for this.
step 1: power on your phone.
step 2: put it down. Look away. take a sip of coffee. or anything. just don't look at the phone during initial boot up.
step 3: use your phone the way you want to use it.
or, if the unlock icon bothers you that much, and you just. can't. look. away. during boot, there are plenty of apps that will put a little circle with battery percent inside in the notification area. Without needing root or XPOSED, or anything. Power Toggles is one of those apps. I'm sure that there are many more as well.

When I got the phone, it was "worked on" and the previous owner said the battery was replaced and the rear cover was broken during removal so a white one was supplied, I looked at the white one and the bluetooth/wifi antenna sticker is right beside the camera/flash but wifi works perfect, so I'm not sure if that's the issue. I flashed 4.4.4 last night and charged to 100%, it still seems to be draining fast, 5% in about 30 minutes so maybe the battery was replaced with a knock off? How do I tell if it's not official? Is there a larger capacity battery upgrade that'll fit in the stock housing/backing?

I spit out my coffee everywhere lmao! I guess it's not a huge deal if it's there, and if it's scaled out, the majority of the time is spent looking at the icon I don't like rather then the momentary one I would prefer not to have.

Power Toggles didn't work, it does put a round icon with percent, but it will only display on the left side in notifications rather then on the right with the system icons.
Thanks for the suggestion though.
I'm going to try Bluetooth to see if it works on 4.4.4, if not then there's some hardware issue that had nothing to do with firmware so if that's the case then I'll rip it apart tonight and reflow the logicboard, check for any signs of water damage and toss it back together.
This device also has a lot of LED bleed on the bottom of the display but if I push on the bottom frame of the glass, it goes away, so I'm thinking the phone was completely rebuild with cheap or spare parts.. Which would explain why it was so cheap.
Either way, I'll report back in a few hours if bluetooth works or not, I'm kind of hoping it doesn't because then it'll really narrow it down to a hardware issue.
Thanks for the help so far.

Yeah, I can tell its a cheap phone, oh well, its still my personal favorite out of the other ones I've owned.
After more testing with 4.4.4, I got 10 hours of battery life with GPS and Bluetooth on, charged again, and then 12 hours of battery life with GPS and Bluetooth off.
So, its better, but I'm still went back to 5.0.1 this morning.
Bluetooth on the headunit lastnight did the exact same thing, tries to connect, waits a bit, says failed.
I did notice another weird issue with charging it this morning, phone was plugged from 3am when I went to bed till 8am when I got up for work and turned it on, that's a decent 5 hour charge and normally it only takes about a hour to charge. The battery icon displayed full with the lightning bolt meaning charged, turned the phone on, still plugged in, shows 70% and says charged, figured it needed a minute to recalibrate the battery so I restarted, still said 70% but it said it's charging now, left it while I made coffee, came back about 30 minutes later before heading out, still said 70% and says charging. I got to work and the battery was down to 9% so I figured it needs to recalibrate so I'll let it run dead till 0%, full charge to 100%, run down to 0%, and then after its charged to 100% again use the phone as normal, nope, it got to 0% before I got in the building, its "charged to 100%" so I turned it on, 68%..
Kinda thinking I'm going buy another battery, one I know is brand new (not what the previous owner said is new) and a new backcover to see if that fixes Bluetooth.
How's the motherboard?
If you unlock the bootloader and flash a custom recovery, you can flash one of these bootloader images that change how it looks. All this does is re-skin the bootloader. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2950482
As for the circle battery icon, AICP has that option along with a lot of other options. It may even fix your Bluetooth connectivity issues with your cars (can't confirm). In the screenshot you can see the battery icon.

This is exactly what I was looking for, thanks! I'm doing this as soon as I get home from work, and then root with no unlock icon, and then GravityBox LP for round battery!
As for the Bluetooth issue, I'm going to reflow the logic board, see how that goes, inspect the battery while I'm in there, maybe find an app that allows me to view battery cycle count.
Ripped the phone apart when I got home, reflowed the logic board, put it back together, tested Bluetooth, connected instantly, no hesitation.
So that's fixed, just gotta figure out a new battery, I found three replacements.
OEM LG 2300mah
X-Longer 2300mah
KBTEL 3830mah
Anyone use these or know which is best? I kinda want to try that KBTEL battery but I can't find any good info on it. I also can't find anything reiweing the LG vs X-Longer batteries either.
I just gotta figure out how to check the cycle count of this battery and if its old then I'll replace it.

Glad to see you got it fixed! As the circle battery icon, I find it easier to just flash a custom ROM because xposed is kinda buggy still and a ROM like AICP has a lot of really nice features that xposed can give and a lot it doesn't have.

I've noticed its buggy, it took me a few attempts just to Install, Gravitybox crashed and got the phone stuck in a bootloop, I just cleaned the cache and it started fine, haven't had any issues since it worked but the process of getting it working was something in its own.
I'll give AICP ROM a try when I get home from work, maybe it'll help with the battery issue.
I narrowed down the battery issue to WiFi. I charged to 100% yesterday, unplugged just before 1am, left everything off, battery was at 94% by 8am so it only had a 6% drain. Drove to work, had Bluetooth on and streaming google music, its all good, not a huge loss at all, actually going really well. I think I was around 85% around 11am when I realized I forgot WiFi off, turned it on, phone died just before 2pm,
So with everything off and idle, 6% battery loss over 7 hours, with wifi off it was a 9% battery loss over 3 hours, then I turned WiFi on and it was an 85% battery drain over 3 hours.
Now that that's solved, I dont think I need a new battery, I gotta find a fix for this insane WiFi battery drain.
I flashed AICP 8.0 Release yesterday along with the latest GAPPS from Paranoid Android, I used the modular GAPPS because I prefer Gallery over the "Photos" alternative from Google. Anywho, I ran into a huge issue, Chrome won't search for anything without thinking I'm a robot if I'm on Data, if I switch to WiFi it works fine. The battery life I can't really say, but I think it has something disabled or modified with WiFi because from 10pm when it got to 100%, I had it unplugged and idle till about 2am checking it once an hour and it was 99% by 2am when I went to bed. By 8am it was 98%, so there was only a 2% battery loss over night and I left WiFi and Bluetooth on, but as soon as I started using the phone, it's not even 9am yet so it hasn't even had an hour use and it's down to 82% so again there's some huge WiFi drain, but at least with AICP there's no drain at idle so I can leave it on over night if absolutely necessary.
Only other issue with this ROM is every time I boot the phone, it tells me there are 6 updates but they're all Nightly updates, I was thinking of disabling the notification but then I won't be notified if there's an official release. I do like this ROM, but the chrome issue is huge for me and AICP doesn't have their own GAPPS to use so I went with the most reliable and well known PA GAPPS but I can't search for anything when I'm not around WiFi.
I'm going to flash back to stock 5.0.1 right meow mainly because of that Chrome + Data thing being a bigger issue then battery drain because I can at least use my phone over Data and save some battery when browsing and connect WiFi for streaming videos or downloading apps but with this bug not letting me use Chrome unless I have WiFi it's going to kill my phone battery in a few hours, so I'd rather have the battery loss over WiFi on stock then require WiFi and battery drain all day.
Thanks for the ROM suggestion, it's pretty good, I like the direction of it but it's not as stable as I would like, I'm going to test it on the Xperia Z though because I do really like it, I just need to use it on a secondary phone.
Chrome issue is fixed, I used ES File Manager to remove Chrome from the System App, rebooted to recovery, wiped cashe, rebooted, installed Chrome from PlayStore, everything works fine. So its a PA GAPPS issue, not AICP. Just felt like clarifing that.
