My wifi always have worked... but suddenly one day, it would show error when I turn it on. At that time, I was running Mike's ARHD 3.5.. so I thought flashing a new ROM would fix it and flash to the new ARHD 6.5.1. However, problem still persist. My phone is already s-off & rooted.
Firmware RUU on 3.32
Kernel 3.0.16
I know there are the problem where the kernel of the new rom doesn't match the original stock kernel but if I'm s-off already, that shouldn't be a problem right?
Worst thing is that the wifi will just be either 'turning on' or 'error'.. it will not turn off, so I would assume it is eating up my battery.
Solved yet?
I have the same problem with my Sensation. It's on Revolutionary S-off. So there shouldn't be a problem. I checked the logcat and it says the driver for the wifi is not loaded. I checked the /data/system/misc/wifi folder or something like that and the wifi driver is in there so I don't know what else to do. I'm so desperate for wifi since my data runs at 3kb/s.

Install root explorer or app like that to have access to root level, den, you can find the wpa_supplicant.conf file in /data/misc/wifi/ directory on your phone. Simply cut/rename the file and put it somewhere else.
Remove it from there and move it to sdcard..
Restart de phone. Wifi should work now.

So I got myself a Desire S.
Problem is, everytime I switch the WIFI toggle to ON, it would say
"Turning On..."
for a little bit, then It would say "Error", and everytime I try to toggle the BLUETOOTH to ON, it would say the same and just returns to "OFF" position.
Status of the phone before rooting and flashing:
"LOCKED"
SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT: 2.000.20
Radio: .....10.08.04_M
I tried flashing several ROMS including the Kernel(BOOT.IMG) via Fastboot;
Virtous Quattro RC3
Reaper V3
IceColdSandwich 7.5
CM7.1 NIGHTLY
also tried flashing to stock RUU with Radio and HBOOT versions;
Gingerbread 2.3.3 --> Europe and Asia Versions
Gingerbread 2.3.5 --> Europe, Asia, India Versions
Currently on Stock Gingerbread 2.3.5 Rooted through Superoneclick
Until now the issue persists. I'm wifi and bluetooth less.
I've tried searching Google, found some "USB-BRICK" topic on the DESIRE forum, didn't work.
Motorola forum, mentioned a reflash of the Radio.
HTCDesireSForum mentioned a reflash of HBOOT and Radio.
Here in XDA, it mentions that in flashing ROMS, on HBOOT 2.00.20 you have to flash BOOT.IMG from the zip file of the rom via Fastboot.
Tried and failed. I'm beginning to think this is a hardware issue.
Anyone with an idea why or to a solution?
nobody? I haven't found any solutions so far. I really hope someone could help or atleast point me in the right direction
Any updates on your issue?
Have you tried bringing it in to service centers? It looks like a hardware problem.
your issue should just revolve around changing hboot, radio and rom.. I cant think of anything that could affect those hardware..

unfortunately no. I didn't give it anymore thought since I'm using it only for camera and music.
Have you tried the latest radio.. I think its worth a try..
Flash hboot of your choice and the latest radio and stable Rom choice.
I really don't think these hardware break that easily..

I'm not sure about the bluetooth, but I may have a fix for the WiFi.
I have a One S and I started getting the same error when I tried to turn on the WiFi. It turned out that my wpa_supplicant.conf file became corrupt somehow. I just deleted /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf and it fixed the problem.
Wifi problem
Dear XDA!
I'm a new member in here. I downloaded softwers from here. It's working correctly. Yesterday I upload the Fallout 4.3 software then the wifi connection is failed. I try another software Nik Project X and the problem was the same.

I have been trying to get a custom rom on my newly acquired sensation most of the night here. I am not new to Android rom flashing but this one has me stumped. I have S-OFF on revolutionary hboot with 11111111 cid and cyanogenmod 9 installs fine and works perfect except the wifi is broken and will not turn on. I have tried different kernels and still the same thing. Even tried virtuous inquisition rom as it is as close to a sense rom I can find and it still wont work. Anyone have any ideas. Much appreciated.
Don't worry I sorted it now, seems I just had to flash the 3.33 PG58IMG.zip and not the 3.32 version like I read somewhere. Seems 3.32 is made for 4.01 not 4.03 roms. Well never mind hopefully this post helps someone in the future.
Still cant get Wifi on Cyanogenmod 9 or other roms
I only seem to be able to get wifi working with virtuous rom at the moment here is my cm9 logcat attached.

You NEED to flash an AOSP kernel like bricked AOSP available from bricked.de otherwise you will have wifi problems
Got another logcat here from latest cm9 nightly with bricked 3.0 kernel installed

I took a quick look at the logcats and it seems wpa_suppliant file is causing some problem. I did read somewhere a fix for this but for the life of me I cant remember it :/
Maybe try searching Q&A or General sections for something like "wpa_suppliant" or "wifi fix" might reveal what I've forgotten...

Thanks, did try deleting the wpa_supplicant.conf file and rebooting but still no joy. Even tried reflashing the original 2.3.3 RUU from Vodafone UK then the 3.32 then 3.33 firmware then reflashing the rom with recovery and still the same even after deleting wpa_supplicant and rebooting. Really annoying, is it just this phone? Wifi works fine on stock ruu roms but not custom roms except virtuous which is weird. Used 2 different kernels and am out of ideas now...
I still have a problem with Wifi on this sensation. It works fine on stock roms or stripped out stock roms on a stock kernel but anything else I get no wifi. I know its not a hardware issue as it works on stock roms but it is doing my nut in. I have attached a detailed logcat if anyone cares to see it.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/os6eutkj0ty8jp7/logcat.txt
OK I been speaking with very knowledgeable people about this and they have put it down to a wifi driver problem with this being extracted from my logcats:
Code:
E/WifiConfigStore( 243): Error parsing configurationjava.io.FileNotFoundException: /data/misc/wifi/ipconfig.txt: open failed: ENOENT (No such file or directory)
E/wpa_supplicant( 1601): wpa_driver_nl80211_driver_cmd: failed to issue private commands

D/ConnectivityService( 243): ConnectivityChange for WIFI: DISCONNECTED/DISCONNECTED
They said wifi is controlled by the kernel so somewhere there is a massive bug in cm9/cm10 kernels. Not sure if it is because I am in the UK I am getting this problem or what.
with all kernels?

Yes it seems so I tried bricked 1.31 and Tamcore Kernel, I spoke with a couple of quite knowledgeable people through an IRC chat room I found on XDA and they looked at my logcat and said it was probably a kernel problem but didn't have the time to look at it further. Seems there must be different versions of an identical HTC Sensation.
EDIT: If anyone could name the kernels I could try with CM9 / CM10 I would be very grateful.
Same problem for me too. No solution. Tried bricked, sebastian, faux with sense 4. Tried kernels for aokp also. No solution.

You know I sat up all night last night trying to fix that phone, I spoke to the person who actually made the bricked kernel, and the person who made the sensation aio toolkit and through looking at wifi logs, logcats, kernel logs and trying various different RUU's and firmwares, we worked out that CM9 / CM10 all use a "bcmdhd" driver for the wifi. My sensation worked on wifi with a "bcm4329" driver on virtuous inquisition rom. They worked out that there is a bunch of sensations that got recalled before launch with wifi problems but obviously still made it out for sale to the public. So basically unless someone rewrites a kernel to work with both the bcmdhd chipset and the bcm4329 chipset there will never be a fix. Try going to this IRC channel and say chronic8000 sent me as I have wifi problems with the sensation and I tried everything like he has. Maybe one of them might actually update the bricked kernel to work with that chipset if they see enough people are actually having the problem. But when I left them at 5-6am GMT this morning they didn't seem to bothered to actually fix it as it is an awful lot of work for only a handful of sensations. Here is the IRC channel link http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=bricked
I have got rid of my sensation already this morning and got a galaxy s2 which I am going to start to flash tomorrow.
Good luck

Hey guys, I have recently been having this identical issue (i.e. WiFi will not turn on, just says 'Turning on WiFi...' then 'Error') I have tried every combination of kernel, Rom, Firmware to get this working. I have even extracted the bcm4329 driver and bcmdhd drivers from kernels marked working and still nothing. Absolutley stumped... This has only happened since I upgrade my ROM. Even reverting to Stock Rom on it, the WiFi no longer works. Does this sound like the antenna has given up the ghost? Was working fine up until ROM upgrade (CM10 Bruce Kang for Sensation), now nothing...

I was trying some kernels and the last one was Bricked 1.36 and ViperS 1.1.0 ROM, wifi and other things worked, but today morning i woke up and wifi says "turning on" for 1O minutes, so i restart it. Still turning on. So i reflasherd kernel. Still turning on. So i clear cache, wipe dalvik and fix perimissions. Still turning on.So i flashed whole ROM with kernel Bricked 1.4 and did full-wipe. Still turning in. So i flashed come CM ROM with their own kernel. Still turning on....After some time for try turn it on, it says something like "fault, Fail..."(i am using other language, than english)
My vacation starts just great...
I am of cource S-OFF, HBOOT 1.27, Rooted, Sensation XE.
Can someone give me some advice? i am at the end of my experiences. Thanx!!!
EDIT: wifi was not working about half a hour...but than...voila!!! It is for no reason back working the phone was just liyng on the table, than i took it and just set wifi on, "what if"... that´s really strange, but. But great! Now go back root, s-off and some awesome custom rom

I have this problem too. I've been using ViperS 1.1.0 for a few weeks without any wifi problem. Yesterday, the wifi was working like normal then in the evening I flashed HyperNonsense 3.3 just to try it. Didn't like it, so I restored nandroid of my ViperS, then flashed yank555's faux123 kernel v2.52. I only realised wifi is not working today morning. It just shows "Turning On", but nothing happens. Could it be kernel issue? Previously i was using yank555 v1.9 without any issue thoguh.
i also have the same problem with the wi fi turning on for 10 mins then it shows error
mine came with the initial ics ota update a very common problem i see on the net not only wifi but bluue tooth also not work
i installed the latest ota a week or so ago which cured a few bugs but still no wifi or bluetooth
so.... i did jb s offf , root etc installed CM9 this fixed the blue tooth and made the screen move reactive and smooth this is one cool ROM BUT still no wifi
any and all suggestions welcome but please consider i am a noob http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/confused.gif and may need a few signposts

I honestly don´t know, i thought, wifi is (almost)only kernel related, but now i see, that it is not :/ It is almost exactly my problem, i was using ViperS and changed kernel...but it didn´t suit me, so i restored the previous one...than i woke up and wifi is gone i cant solve it for now, i don´t have any freetime at this moment for making full stock condition.
i have tested stock rom with stock kernel, with some other HBOOT but still the same.

Your wifi stops working through an official update? You should claim it! it is not your fault...for me, everything works, except thing about wifi like tethering etc., thats a serious problem, even reflasing the whole phone (rom, radio, hboot, kernel) doesn't help :/
I had Xperia Arc before Sensation XE and reflash always helps, no matter what happens.

All I had to do was pull that file out from the directory and turn on wifi and *poof* it worked again. When I turned wifi on it created a new file and everything has been great so far this afternoon.
In case anyone wants to give it a shot who is having wifi issues you can find the wpa_supplicant.conf file in /data/misc/wifi/ directory on your phone. Simply cut/rename the file and put it somewhere else. If you have wifi passwords you want to save, you can open the original file using a text editor and copy the settings over to the new file.
I believe the cause of my issue was actually Titanium Backup. Looking at the last time it backed up my wifi settings was back when I wasn't running ICS yet. Yesterday I did restore an app using it and must have accidentally restored that old backup. Their formats are different from Gingerbread to ICS apparently and it was causing errors.
i found this on another post dont know if it will help but it could be the problem with the ota update from gb to ics
now the silly noob question how do you access the directory ????http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/icons/advanced/sign.png
i got into the directory but it doesnt seem to work in another thread someone got it to work with a virtuous rom
ill try that on thr weekend
enjoy your vacation
hmmm thats iteresting, but if you do full-wipe and flash some rom and kernel, these files are rewriten...but because i am curious i tried it and!!! it is not working for me :-/
And how to get into this directory?Simply... download dome file manager from Play Market(i lika Total Commander), but you can use whatever you like, set in options "root function everywhere" and allow superuser. than you can go in any directory and read/write/change

I fixed it by doing a full wipe, flashed ViperS 1.2.1, reboot, use the phone for a few minutes, then flashed Yank v2.52.

No help for me still the same "turning on"
Hi all;
First of all I want to say that I already spent a week or so reading different guides, flashing radios and kernels trying to fix this issue.
My problem is that the WiFi is stuck on Obtaining IP and can't connect to my home network. This happens on all ROMs except ViperS.
This issue started for me after flashing ViperS 1.5.2, before that I was using ARHD 6.8.0 without any Wifi errors.
About a week ago I decided to leave the ViperS 1.6.0 because of a low batery life, but when I switched back to ARHD 6.8.0 I got the wifi errors.
I tried stock roms, ARHD, different RUUs, reflashing radio and firmware, custom kernels without any luck...
The only setup that the Wifi worked (except the ViperS) was after installing RUU_Pyramid_LE_HTC_Europe_1.73.401.4, but when I installed the OTA that upgrades it to 3.32.401.105, the wifi errors came back.
ViperS changelog says that it messes with the WiFi to force 801.11n or something...
Please help me, I just want to go to the previous state, before installing ViperS.

Hi,
Have you tried the RUU,but then, do not let it update.
Just use the Universal firmware update from HERE
