[Tutorial] How to start a playlist on your PC using Android and NFC - Android Apps and Games

A while ago I wrote a tutorial on how to turn your phone on and bypass your keyguard using NFC and Tasker, today I'll expand on that and write about how you can use NFC to automatically start a playlist on your media PC even with your screen off. By the end of this tutorial you should be able to just tap your phone on the NFC tag and presto! your favorite playlist will start playing on your PC.
What you'll need:
On your phone
Tasker (important: make sure you update to the latest version)
NFC Task Launcher
NFC Screen Off Mod (this is for the Note 2 and S3 ONLY, the same mods for other phones can be found with a quick search). Confirmed working for Note 2 stock LJ1 and LJ3 odex rooted.
Root (but I'm guessing if you have any of the above you're already rooted)
(optional) Secure Settings (be sure to enable Device Admin)
(optional) Media Center Control (or your favorite Media Controller)
(optional but recommended) Titanium Backup
On your PC
EventGhost
- Windows Media Player Plugin
- Webserver Plugin
Windows Media Player (you could use winamp or other players instead but you would need different plugins for Everhost)
Other Items
Writable NFC tags
PC and Phone should be on the same wireless network (you could make it work from an external network by forwarding the port, but I'm not going to cover this here).
Now on to the instructions..
On your phone
Use TB to make a backup of your NFC Service apk (in case you get issues after flashing the modded one)
Flash the attached NFC Screen Off Mod using CMW
Create a task (Play) in Tasker with the following actions:
(optional) Plugins -> Secure Settings -> Wake Device -> Screen and Keyboard lights on (30 sec or whatever you want)
(optional) Plugins -> Secure Settings -> Keyguard -> Off (this will also disable any PIN/pattern/password you have)
(optional) Misc -> Say -> "Starting Playlist" (or whatever you want it to say)
Net -> Http Get -> In Serverort field enter 'username[email protected]ort' where username and password are the same as the ones you configured in your Webserver EventGhost plugin and xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx and port are the IP and port of your PC and Webserver EventGhost plugin.
-> In Path enter '?play'

}
Prepare a writeable tag in NFC Task Launcher with the following actions:
Tasker -> Tasker Task -> Play (or the name of your task)
(optional) Launch application -> Media Center Control
Got it? That was the easy part
Now it's time to configure your PC
Download and install EventGhost from here: This is an awesome program, think of it as Tasker for your PC. It can pretty much control any application, run scripts, switch off your monitor, etc.. based on events from various sources.
Install the webserver plugin (Configuration -> Add Plugin -> Webserver)
- Expand Autostart, right click on 'Plugin:Webserver' and click 'Configure'.
- Fill in the same username, password and port you used in your HTTP Get action in Tasker (make sure no firewall is blocking your port).
Install the Windows Media Player plugin (Configuration -> Add Plugin -> Windows Media Player)
- Expand the folder 'Windows Media Player', expand the Macro 'Start Program: wmplayer.exe'
- Right click on the action 'Start Program: wmplayer.exe' and click 'Add Event', enter "HTTP.play" (this is your Tasker HTTP Get command)
- Right click on the action 'Start Program: wmplayer.exe' and click 'Configure', enter the playlist command for WMP: '/Playlist "My Playlist 1"' (replace "My Playlist 1" with the name of your playlist, don't forget the quotes).
Phew.. done!
Took me a few hours to get it to work but that was because I knew nothing about EventGhost and tried using EG Tasker plugins to send events via TCP, turns out HTTPGet is simpler and native to Tasker.
If you're feeling adventurous and have many tags you might want to expand the above to have a different tag for each playlist/genre, stick the on the wall and label them 'Pop', 'Metal', 'Hip Hop' or by artist/album and impress your friends by starting different styles of music without even turning on your phone.. or better yet, stick your phone in your back pocket and change the music by walking around and bumping your ass on the wall
Took me a long time to write this up, hope you guys find it useful! I'll be happy to help out anyone who is having trouble with the setup.

Thought I'd bump this, in case anyone would be interested

Hey guys,
I want to present you my newest app "Shutdown Start Remote". Like the title says, you can remote shutdown, restart, hibernate and start your PC.

Here is a list of the features:
-Supports Windows, Mac and Linux
-Easy setup with network scanner
-Intuitive design
-No installation required (only run a Java application)
-All screen sizes supported
-Possibility to choose between shutdown, restart and hibernate
-Wake on Lan
You can find out more about this app and a detailed instruction on my homepage.

Hi,
I just wanted to let you know, that a new version is out, which has a option to choose a special theme. For example Android 3.x and 4 now can use the Hole themes. I hope you enjoy the feature
Need a program for PC?
Yes, you need a program to shut down the PC. To start a PC you don't need it. It is a small .jar file (java) running in the background.
Looks great, trying it
Thanks Please let me know whether everything works or you have any problems.
Hi. I'm having problems with this app.
I've got the JAR file on my computer. And the app is also picking up my computer when they go to scan it. However when I click on my found device nothing happens. Then around 10-15 second later an option will pop-up saying "Could not find the PC".
Is there a way to fix this?

Same here finds PC but won't connect
nice app, works for me. Some issues/suggestions
-I had to manually enter my IP address for it to even see my PC.
-It notifies me of me using a ad blocker app even though i'm not and never have.
-suggestion: I didn't exactly know how to use the app, you should make a "tutorial" phase first...
I saw the timer, pressed it and it went to 000000 and on my PC a message popped up saying "windows is shutting down"
I think you should put a option there saying something like "Press this to cancel shutdown/restart/hibernation etc."
for people who can't connect:
Instead of searching, press menu and enter the ip manually.
If you don't know your ip, first of all you should be ashamed of yourself, and then give yourself a facepalm
then if you have windows, type cmd in the search and then in the cmdprompt type ipconfig and get the IPv4 or IPv6 ip, the ipv4 is shorter for me.
tried those and still the same result ;[
great app, i do the same thing! can you add a "sleep" function for windows? I find this more useful than shutdown or hibernate.
Hi,
Thank you for the suggestions.
Referring to your problems: if you can't connect although the network scanner found your PC, then your firewall is blocking the connection. The scanner works on another IP address and port than the real connection. So please check your firewall settings.
The network scanner uses following address: 239.1.2.3
The manually inserted IP uses one of the following ports: 57143, 57144, 57145
The final connection uses port 52899 and higher.
@NguyenHuu: No I can't add the sleep function. Windows only has the possibility to shutdown, reboot and hibernate. However you can take a deeper look into the windows settings. It is possible to use the sleep function instead of hibernate. If you see a sleep option in the start menu, then hibernate in my app let's your PC sleep.
@xriderx66: Hm I thought the handling was simple. Isn't the instruction point enough? How would you change it?
Sounds like a neat app. I'd like to check it out but I guess it doesn't support the Droid1.
Definitely won't hold that against you though, my phone is OLD! (But I'm looking forward to an upgrade next month!)
Yes, unfortunately at least Android 2.1 is required.
Hi,
Two weeks ago I've published the new version of the app. I've updated the first post.
really nice app...
can you add a support for dynDNS. I can only insert an IP number.
App worked instantly for me, great app! Thank you for sharing this

[GUIDE]Filesharing over network

ROOTed device is REQUIRED !
This guide only discuss about filesharing not streaming media !
ANY DAMAGE FOR IMPROPER USAGE OF THIS GUIDE
IS YOUR OWN RESPONSIBILITY !!
1. INTRODUCTION
I found many people having trouble using Kies or just wanna transfer files between devices.
The solution is Bluetooth or Network Filesharing.
I will only discuss about Network Filesharing as Bluetooth is very slow.
In this Guide I will use my Galaxy Note 10.1 as my main device & the other device is for supporting only.
Network Filesharing has many protocol, but IMHO SSH protocol is the best for transferring files over network.
I use SMB (or many call it SAMBA) protocol for comparison only as it's not secure.
Samba is easier to configure, but now setting a SSH daemon in Android is much more easier than before
SSH
Secure SHell, similar with Powershell or cmd in Ms. Win environment but its more powerfull.
In Linux environment it's Linux console as Android is a Linux descendant.
Becarefull using SSH/SFTP,do not alter or delete anything you don't understand as it may harm your device(s).
SFTP = SSH File Transfer Protocol
Another advantage using SSH (not SFTP) is you can fully control your device but I won't discuss it here.
So I use SSH / SFTP (FTP is not recommended) connection to transfer files between my devices (PC,Laptop,HTC Sensation & Galaxy Note 10.1).
2. PREPARATIONS
Make sure your device is Rooted or this guide won't work !
Instruction / Guide / tutorial on how to Root your device can be found here, here and here
Then Install the required Application on each devices
PC & Laptop
For Ms. Win:
AnyClient (this is a SSH/SFTP Client only)
Any other SSH/SFTP Client will works
For Linux (I use Linux Mint Nadia)
It's already built in on it's file manager (any linux natively support SSH/SFTP client)
HTC Sensation 4G
I use Samba Filesharing.
It's FREE on Google Play
Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1
I use DigiSSHD and DigiControl.
DigiControl is only to control DigiSSHD and the real deal is DigiSSHD,but somewhat DigiControl is required.
It's also FREE on Google Play
3. SETTING UP
Setting up SSH/SFTP Server on your Android (Yes you are setting up a SERVER on your Galaxy Note 10.1 )
Open DigiSSHD
Make sure default user [android] is checked and don't check/uncheck anything else.
You can change network port value for better security, but make sure you don't use reserved ports (better leave it alone if you don't know anything about reserved ports).
Make sure authentication mode is single user for better security.
Tap on manage user

}
Tap on android
If you see nothing after Tapping on android try tapping on the arrow icon on the bottom left
Set the password,it's the 3rd row below android and variable location
Back
Tap on the OFF button to turn it ON.
Now go to INFORMATION
Take a note of your IP address.
You are done setting your SSH/SFTP server on your Galaxy Note 10.1 :good:
Setting up client on your other device
The Client side is far easier, just use any android file explorer with SFTP capability and use any SSH/SFTP client for Windows PC.
Linux user is far easier as Linux has built in SSH/SFTP client capability
For this Guide I will use ES File Explorer on my HTC Sensation (Android):
Open ES File Explorer
Tap on menu
Tap on Show Tabs
Tap on FTP
Tap on menu again
Tap on New
Choose SFTP
Fill in any required information according to your previous Server settings.
Voila! you are done setting up your Android SSH/SFTP client.
Now you can transfer/edit/delete your files wirelessly :good:

Privacy concerns about AOKP - Best alternative of Cyanogenmod, AOKP, Replica, etc?

I currently have AOKP (Maclaw) installed on my Samsung Galaxy SIII Mini, but as I was looking through the apps, there was one particular app that got me slightly concerned. It´s called Panda and when I click it, the only option I have is to "Enable Energy Save Mode", yet that utterly simple app has FULL access to the entire phone.
Firstly with Panda, you do not have the option to uninstall it the easy way, so a noob is forced to have it there.
If you try to forcibly stop Panda in the app manager, it will restart itself automatically.
Further more - Panda have the perrmissions to
- directly call phone numbers
read phone status and identity
- read your text messages (SMS or MMS)
send MMS messages
- take pictures and photos
- record audio
- approximate location (network-based)
precise location (GPS and network-based)
- modify your contacts
read your contacts
- read your own contact card
- modify or delete the contents of your SD card
- disable your screen lock
- set an alarm
- read Google service configuration
use accounts on the device
view configured accounts
- read terms you added to the dictionary
- change system display settings
modify secure system settings
retrieve system internal status
- change network connectivity
change WiMaX state
connect and disconnect from Wi-Fi
connect and disconnect from WiMaX
control Near-Field Communication
full network access
view network connections
view Wi-Fi connections
- access Bluetooth settings
pair with Bluetooth devices
- re-order running apps
retrieve running apps
run at startup
- draw over other apps
- control vibration
prevent phone from sleeping
- add words to user-defined dictionary
- change your audio settings
. read sync settings
read sync statistics
toggle sync on and off
- expand / collaps status bar
- modify system settings
read battery statistics
read Home settings and shortcuts
test access and protected storage
write Home settings and shortcuts
- full permissions to all device features and storage
- Set global theme
..meaning I guess that this Panda app has full administrator/root permissions.. - ..but why?
Why does a seemingly useless application like Panda have root permissions, which in turn also makes it fairly difficult to remove? What is the application Panda´s true purpose? Why is it there in the first place? What does it do, exactly?
My concerns with these alternative smartphone operating systems is that there might be an Ubuntu/Debian scenario, where Debian is a nice clean OS giving you the very basics and letting you choose whatever extra you want from there, whereas Ubuntu comes with a lot of extra stuff that you do not really need and / or should be given the ability to choose if you wanted to install or not, upon install.
So, I guess my question to the experienced, security- and privacy-oriented smartphone-OS user is:
What is the best alternative smartphone OS that gives you a simple OS without anything extra such as that suspicious Panda app?
In other words, which smartphone alternative out there today can be trusted the most to respect my privacy? I would of course look into Firefox OS if it was available.
Am I being overly paranoid about AOKP? Should I just keep that, or perhaps Cyanogenmod is the way to go? Or perhaps I am missing an even better solution?
Thanks.
You know you can easily disable those permissions with app ops, do you?

Not with the Panda application you cant, and thats using the original App Ops with 4.3 support.
If you access App Ops to edit permissions for Panda, you arent given a single permission to alter.
The App Ops I am using works just fine with other applications, and I can easily alter permissions - but with Panda, not so--I cannot edit a single permission of Panda´ s, and yet that application has full access to my entire phone.
Panda is an application that seems to come by default with the MacLaw releases, at least on AOKP - I havent tested their Cyanogenmod release yet.
That Panda bear logo of this particular Panda app that I am talking about is the same Panda depicted on http://maclaw.pl - so it kinda begs to question - why is there an application like that with the AOKP MacLaw releases in the first place? Does that app gather information? Can it be accessed remotely? What exactly does it do?
The Panda "Teddy" logo:

You could upload the app to VirusTotal and if nothing is picking it up then send it to a AV provider that you like as a suspicious file and they'll check it over.
Or upload it and post the link here and I'm sure someone who knows far more than I do) could look it over.
You could also just ask him yourself, but I don't think he'll be collecting your personal information. The only thing that app does, is turning off one CPU core and setting the governor to OnDemand. That's all I know.
PSA root apps, or mods to the system don't really need to declare permissions, they can obtain the same functionality other routes. Don't judge the safety of an app just based on it's permissions.

[APP][4.3+] New launcher for WeTek Core

If you wanna help debugging this new launcher I have created feel free to download it and report in this thread any error or crash you might experience.
In case of crash try to replicate it and, please, include logcat.
You can't use this launcher on the Play running WeTek OS because it requires at least Android 4.3 for the notification APIs but if you are using my CyanogenMOD build you can use it on the Play as well (but you might need to use a keyboard to access some of the functions since they are mapped for Core's remote).

"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Instructions
Download the zip file containing the apk, unzip it and install the apk using your preferred method (using adb install, copying it to a MicroSD card and installing it using a file manager, etc.)
As very first thing allow the launcher to access the notifications in "Settings -> More Settings -> Sound & Notification -> Notification access".
I have created this launcher for being light and very easy to use, in fact using the Core you will do most of the actions using the * (star) button (if you don't have the Core's remote you can achieve the same with F6 button on a keyboard).
In the top row you have the notifications, you can click with OK button on them to open them in a popup or you can dismiss the selected notification without opening it using * button.
In the second row you have the highlighted apps section, the middle icon is the app drawer. From the drawer you can add the selected app to the list of favourite apps (the third row in the home of the launcher) by pressing * button, you can also long press OK to access to the app information menu where you can uninstall/disable the app, clean the cache or data, move the app to the sd, etc.
The third row, as previously said, has a list of favourite apps. You can re-arrange them by long pressing with OK on one of them (you will see that the app rectangle has a blue border, meaning it's been selected), moving to the position where you wanna put that app and long press OK again to swap the two positions (it's easier done than said), if you long press with OK on the same selected app it will clear the selection.
To delete a favourite app use the usual * button.
The last row has three icons, one for the connectivity (showing if you're connected by ethernet, wifi, or not connected at all) that will launch network settings when clicked; one that will launch android settings and another one that shows the weather and, once clicked, will show a popup with a 5 days forecast (from this popup you can toggle C/F degrees by pressing, guess what? * button
)

1.2.1
Changes
1.2.1:
- Added option to hide applications
- Added support for icon themes (have a look here for more info)
- Added Turkish translation
20151126:
- A lot of improvements under the hoods, included fixing a FC when using IP geo location since the public API I was using is not available anymore.
20151104:
- Added the possibility of fetching weather for a custom location. You can access to settings by pressing menu button in the main launcher window
20151101:
- Added current temperature and current city to the weather icon in the footer
- LP only: modified the visual feedback of the currently focused highlighted/favourite app
20151030:
- Added the possibility of customizing the Highlighted apps (all but the app drawer). Long pressing on an highlighted app will bring up a dialog where you can choose the new highlighted app. To reset an highlighted app to the default state press the usual * button on the customized highlighted app.
If you are running one of the latest Core rom that have this new launcher as system launcher you won't be able to update unless you use this file.
20151029:
- Added a colored circular reveal animation in the home section when interacting with objects that launch something
New version.
4.2
And for 4.2?
It is not possible because the notification listener requires 4.3, and integrated notifications is one of the best things of this launcher imho
This is what I want! Works on any android box?
Thanks for the launcher
the link is broken
I would recommend advertising this as a TV box launcher and keep developing on that niche. There are not nearly enough decent TV box launchers available. The one that Tronsmart uses is really good, but that's the only other one that I like. I didn't know what this was, but if people know its a TV box launcher they may be interested.
Launcher look fantastic, but link is broken. Please, fix it
Can we get a new link or a mirror please?

HOW TO USE 2 PHONES WORKING (one always connected with the secondary USB cable - one normally connected via primary Bluethoot)
Install the free version as recommended by Mastino "Disable appliacation Root"
Link:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d ... hl = en_US & gl = US
Open the app, give all the required permissions, scroll the list to the bluethot item, open the item, click on disable.
If everything is ok now you can use the secondary phone for S2A and have the bluethoot channel free to use the main phone with the speakerphone, as you have always done.
FORCED ROTATION OF WORKING APP(e.g. NETFLIX, AMAZON PRIME VIDEO etc)
Some apps appear vertically when opened and have no options for rotation.
Rotation with a specific app that requires permissions must be forced.
Use the ROTATION app by Pranav Pandey that works very well
