Lag when swiping to Quick Settings screen for the first time? - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone else experience this? And to those who have JB already, has it been fixed?

after first boot, it does lag (and I have JB), but it is literally so short that it is hardly noticeable.

yes I do, I received the OTA to JB last nite, I've noticed more lag when I swipe to the Quick Settings for the first time as well. picks up after that. overall slightly more lag after exiting an app to navigation.. where's butter?

I've found the Moto circles widget is the culprit of a lot of lag on this handset. Deleting it makes the whole experience much snappier. It doesn't remove the first swipe lag to quick settings, but every swipe after that its smooth - until the phone goes to sleep and you unlock it again, and the lag returns for that first swipe..
I honestly thought this phone would be quicker than the SGSIII, but now I'm regretting purchasing the Razr HD.. If only the SGSIII had kevlar!

Yeah I posted about this on the official Motorola forums hoping it would get addressed in time for the JB update (I was running the leak). I don't think they really got what I was trying to say, but eventually someone did.
Not sure really what the culprit is, maybe pulling up some of the "cached settings" is causing the slight lag, but it is very noticeable if you use FPS Meter. Also, the other custom pages (Manage Pages, Add a page) cause a drop in FPS. Which as others have mentioned, is the antithesis of Project Butter, so this should not be happening in JB.
Hopefully they address this soon, as it makes the RAZR seem slower than it really is (everything else just zooms on this phone).
---------- Post added at 08:22 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:18 AM ----------
Also, I noticed an odd behavior when swiping away from the Quick Settings page. If you swipe away to the "first screen", then before the dock icons appear, swipe again, it will land you all the way on "Add a Page", despite whatever pages you have in between. Same thing happens when swiping away from "Add a Page" as well.

I'm having the same issues as well. Just exchanged my galaxy note 2 for this because the note 2 was just too big.
I hope they fix this fast.

I also noticed this, but I am on ICS. It bothered me to the point that I installed adw and now it is as smooth as it can be. I also think that the circles widget may have been the culprit for so much lag.

Found the fix boys. On the circles widget flip the battery level circle to get to the settings. Tap the settings. Uncheck each of the notifications and then save. Now everything is as smooth as silk!!!
Easy fix thank god.

Still lag after doing this on ICS. not sure about JB..
Samsung definitely have Moto's number when it comes to a smooth UI. If only the SGSIII had the Razr HD body!

+1 on that .
Have S3 & Razr HD on my short list, S3 has some good bonus points such as: better camera, cpu etc & removable battery is big bonus for me too & also can use dual sim adaptor on S3.
Razr HD just is so beautiful to touch & hold though & S3 looks like plastic kids toy :-S I also prefer look of Moto UI as Samsungs effort looks old, bloated & girly ... Even in this great technology age you can not have your cake & eat it :-/

I have both phones. I got the Razr as a mate of mine who works for Telstra sold it to me cheap (he got it free for selling more than his quota of Motorola phones on contract for the month)
I prefer the SGSIII UI fluidity. Its seriously unmatched. Cameras are about the same in well lit scenes, but SGS much better in darker scenes. But my daily phone for the last 2 weeks has been the Razr HD. In terms of feel and quality, it's currently one of the best phones on the market.
I'm willing to wait for JB before making the decision to sell the SGSIII or Razr. SGSIII has 4.1.2 already, and 4.2 planned in Jan 2013 - I just wish it was more stable..

I don't understand why it is so difficult to get a smooth ui. Samsung did it and it's beautiful. I love this phone, but even with JB it occasionally stutters.

So heres the Fat question: Who's returning and who's keeping

Just a basic question, no trolling. Just wondering what issues people have, and wondering who's leaving it for something else.
Im still intended on keeping this, but if that HTC DNA comes out writing my return period (45 days)I might have to consider that instead.
What issues are people having?
Returning. Camera is terrible. Will either go back to my s3 or wait for the HTC DNA.
If you want a camera, go buy a camera its a phone not a Nikon. Keep that in mind.
Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using xda app-developers app
It seems like the camera issues are mainly software so I assume they will be fixed. Pocket now did a video sample and it came out great!
Even if the camera gets an update it still won't be as good as the s3, but the large battery makes up for it imho.

I cant imagine going to any other device right now. It just feels so nice in my hands. Recovery is on its way, we have root, just need JB ROMs and i will be set.

Are the developers that are working on the RAZR HD on a different forum or just silent for now?
Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk 2
Apparently TWRP from the RAZR M works fine for this (not scaled for an HD screen).
Devs are currently silent, but i suggest you saunter on over to the Dev forum on XDA and check out the JB leak thread.
After 7 days of use, I am on the fence.
With the "Smart Actions" application, I am lasting a day plus on battery alone.
The build quality is solid and like Deus_eps_machina said, it feels good in the palm of your hand.
Although intermittent, I am finding that the radio drops completely when I have full LTE to a red triangle.
With Jellybean around the corner (they're are leaks already), I am hoping that my signal issues are addressed.
If so, I will hold on to this until the next glut of "flagship" devices arrive.
I've never experienced the signal issue, but have been reading about it. Try doing an exchange?
Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk 2
Perhaps with the upcoming update a new radio firmware will improve the signal quality? My Razr has been doing great.
Anyway, I'm keeping this girl. I'm on 1d and 15hrs usage with over 4 hours of screen time. My old g-nex wouldn't have been able to touch 1/2 of that battery performance. the only major issue with this phone, as others have pointed out, is the lousy camera. the camera sucks but it isn't a deal breaker.

My thoughts exactly. I don't own it yet but I plan on buying it. Coming from the Nexus S I don't have high expectations in regards to the camera... I'm sad I'm leaving stock AOSP behind though

Its so close to AOSP that I dont think you will be that saddened (at least in the visual sense). With Nova launcher and the stock jelly bean icons, you would be pretty happy IMHO.
its tough for me cuz I have the S3, so its about which one do I want more. Had I not used the s3 I'd think this phone was insane. But I know first hand the camera is well below. And with cm10 and razr m launcher the S3 is basically the same ui.

I would vote this one. 200mAh more, smaller screen and no touchwiz. Spec wise, the note 2 blows this out of the water in every category other than battery size and durability. Reception probably is better on the RAZR too.

Droid Razr HD or GSIII?

Which should I pick up(Verizon)? I feel like it's hardware vs software (why can't I have both? ). The build quality on this phone looks stellar and the kevlar looks boss, but it's lacking atm in development. On the other hand the GSIII has a GIANT following, dozens of ROMs, an extra gig of RAM, and just seems to be cared about/getting software attention.... but it looks like a kids toy... Will the Razr pick up speed? Opinions?
Go for the RAZR HD. Software can change, hardware not so much.
RAZR HD if u care about good reception and battery life
Cause even thou the g3 has roms we still beat them there vs a stock RAZR HD

Hasn't this topic been beaten to death already in other threads? Pick up whatever one you want. A bunch of thread-posters aren't going to change your mind if you're decided on one already. They're both very good devices capable of doing a lot of the same stuff. It's going to depend on your personality and how you plan to use the phone.
Droid Razr HD :good:
Just saw the JB leak, getting the Razr haha.
+1 ^ saw the leak about 5mins ago, you beat me to it. Excited to test it out.
I just ditched my S3 on Sprint and am I ever glad I did. Loving the Razr much more.
Meanwhile, my S3 is streaming constant video on roaming until Sprint cancels my contract for me.
Razor hd. I live in a low service area with my s3 and it is horrible. I have to stand in a certain part of my house just to send a text. I recover no calls and making calls is out of the question. Personally I'd wait for the nexus 4 though mad swap to t-mobile.

guess im at the opposite end. Sold my 32GB S3 and just got a razr HD yesterday. I like the phone and the JB leak makes it way smoother...but the locked bootloader and lack of development so far is making me wonder. I never had reception problems with my S3. IDK... missing my S3 tremendouslt a.t.m. The Razr HD is a nice phone. Feels way more solid in my hand and hardware is good. Build quality..superb. Just my ramblings...lol. Happy trails with whatever u decide. Thanks again devs for all your work. I am on XDA more than FB...have a great night everyone.

This screenshot from my RAZR is with Bluetooth enabled, GPS enabled, 4g on and the screen on set to auto brightness for the entire duration of the test while streaming slacker internet radio. Also for the entire duration of the test. Awesome battery life. Also it would seem as though this phone is capable of simultaneous data and voice even in 3g mode. Unless my phone is broken and not actually supposes to do that.

2G of RAM and quadcore kick ass,
check out the benchmark score and also i couldn't stand the speed of RAZR HD after i install all my apps
(restoring from back up online/cloud)
so does this means... the phone seems quick but only when it's new and empty (app-wise)
soon i load with 2 anti-virus, 4 chat apps, CPU&RAM monitor, Battery Widget, Netspeed monitor, App Protector...
and i thought i hate my HTC ONE X enough to love whatever phone next to it.
but... no, i changed it back to ONE X until i got my hands on S3 LTE version.
(this is only my point of view after using the phone *my way*)
cheers.:good:
Maybe it's just me, but even when playing with the two phones at a store, SG3 seemed more responsive and less laggy. Hopefully JB helps HD in that department.
I also think phones these days should come with two gigs of ram given how cheap ram is.
Overall, I am still undecided. Both are great phones, both have strong and weak points, which have been documented extensively by now.
It sounds like if you live in an area with weak signal, need long battery life and don't use the camera much, HD is your phone. If, on the other hand, you like slightly stronger specs and need a good camera, you are probably better off with SG3. Also, I like physical buttons (personal preference) and development is probably going to be stronger for SG3.

Comments like this make me worry :/ I have heard many things about this phone lagging more than other flagship devices running 4.04(from sleep, lots of apps, laggy camera, b/c less ram?). Can this prominent lag experience be tweaked out and/or does jelly bean fix it? :/ I like my butter....

One X Screen STILL reigns supreme! (Sorry J Butterfly!)

I did read somewhere myself that the DNA has a cooler temp wise display than the One X. One thing about the DNA I'll admire is that even zoomed in you still can barely make out the individual pixels.

It's interesting. My friend who has the gs3 keeps talking about how his phone is better because of the "better hardware" and removable battery (even though he doesn't have a second battery... Go figure) but I asked him, "Considering you use your phone to pretty much text, listen to music, and watch YouTube wouldn't the most important thing be the quality of the screen? If you are going to spend most of your phone use time staring at it, what would be better? Slightly better hardware and a removable battery or a way better screen?"
Needless to say he never brought up the "My phone is better than yours" conversation since.

I completely agree. I believe the One X has an absolutely gorgeous screen, and was designed well.
Has anyone noticed thought their screen having a "ripple effect"? Like when I clean the screen I see a dark streak follow my finger. But that could just be my eyes.. Haha Other than that and the slight flex I get on the corners, this is the best phone I have ever had. Ever.

Obviously a good screen is a must on any smartphone. But specs can be important to the fluidity of the OS, multi-tasking (DNA reportedly is going to have 2GB RAM) and therefore every use of the phone. If you are spending your time starting at a beautiful screen, but what you are staring at is lag and browser restarts, then the nice screen might not be the best choice.
Personal perception comes into play a bit, as well. Its possible that the difference in the screen might not be significant or even noticeable to a particular person, while the difference in performance may be.
All this is just hypothetically speaking of course, the phone hasn't even been released yet.
I agree with the comment about the removable battery. While I know plenty of folks like to have spare batteries (and swap them through the day); after 5 HTC devices, I've never bothered to buy a spare battery.
Still can't forget my first hands on stock with one x display was pure awesome needed no second thoughts on buying this masterpiece . Anyhow I'll be upgrading to dna if and when possible .
I'll upgrade to the Droid DNA the moment it isn't a "Verizon Exclusive". Because of its relationship with 'big red', I can't even purchase it to use unlocked with rogers because the network bands are all wrong. Apparently that's the case for the J Butterfly as well; works with 3G here but SOL for my (expensive) LTE plan.
All things considered though, I do very much love my One X... The performance and display quality are still superior to everything I've seen to date, even those newer Samsung phones and their god-aweful turquoise-tinted monstrosities.

I love the screen on our HOX, the best I've seen.
a friend of mine had a cheap, crappy screen protector on it ever since he bought his phone 2 months ago...I saw and took the sh*t off right away...He has been thanking me ever since...
The problem with this phone isn't so much the specs (1 gig ram), but Sense itself. If you toss cm10 on this thing there are no browser restarts, no lag, nothing at all which would make you think, "Why not 2 gigs? Stupid HTC."
I have no idea why they decided to butcher so many advances in Android (multi-tasking), my only theory is because sense is such a resource eating blob they needed to find a way to make the launcher and over all app performance usable without having to cut down on the bloat. With a full array of sense widgets (what I consider some of the best widgets available for android) running just the launcher and widgets will eat through that ram like crazy, not to mention not being battery friendly.
Once sense goes bye bye and is replaced by an aosp rom, this phone just freaking flies with no noticeable lag what so ever. Only thing that keeps me coming back to sense is the battery life on aosp isn't quite as good as sense based roms. While the sense camera is better than aosp, with the new 4.2 camera the shots are not what I would call bad.
I am still keeping my fingers crossed that when HTC pushes out Jellybean for the One XL they can restore some of that wonderful aosp multitasking and buttery smoothness while still retaining the amazing camera and audio.
If not I will be jumping over to the nexus 4 and not leaving the nexus brand again. Google got it right with the nexus 4, no lte, but I hardly use it anyway even though I have full coverage in my city.

I've been running into the same tradeoffs. I'm not the biggest fan of Sense, but I've noticed the battery life is shot when using CM10, which makes me wish I could have my cake and eat it too.

galaxy s3

anyone have both? What would you say are the advantages and disadvantages of each? I love battery life and this phone seems to be a perfect fit for that. Both are easily rootable although the galaxy s3 does have a lot more attention and development as far as roms and apps go
The s3 feels cheap....screen scratched the first hour I had it
Also the radio reception sux compared to even the old RAZR
The only thing the s3 has on the RAZR is more devs and ROMs

I use a Razr Maxx HD and my daughter has a GS3. While both devices are easy to root, only the GS3 has an easily unlockable bootloader. That makes it a lot easier to load new ROMs on the Samsung. That's why you have so much more ROM development on the GS3.
On the other hand, the build quality of the Razr is vastly superior to the GS3 and the battery life is much better. If you are partial to stock Android, the Moto software is much closer to the AOSP although it does come with a bunch of VZW bloat apps. Fortunately even with a stock unrooted ROM, since ICS, Google has provided the ability to disable built-in apps which you can do with all of the bloat.
I bought my daughter the GS3 last June and upgraded my phone in November because I preferred what Moto had built despite the limitations of the locked bootloader.
build quality on RAZR HD is definitely superior, and battery life slaps the s3. As with all Samsung's they are much easier to root and install custom ROMs, so there is a trade off

So you're saying the stock rom is much better on the razr? No bloatware? Like a Nexus?
Also your profile pic is insane. Insanely cool and insane.
I'm going to steal it.
The S3 does feel cheap, but geez Samsung have really worked on Touchwiz to make it ultra smooth. Can't say the same for the HD, its laggy as h3ll unless you change the launcher.
I'm not sure how icenight89 came to the conclusion that the "battery life slaps the s3" because I get about 1.5 days out of the HD, and over 2 on the SGSIII (I have the quad core non LTE SGSIII BTW). Although my Razr HD is LTE (4G) equipped, I only use it on 3G+ networks so its a fair comparison.
The thing that really blows the SGSIII away is the Razr HD build materials. So if you can deal with some lag, get the HD. I ended up downloading the Android 4.1 Jellybean Launcher off play store and it works a treat (FC and lag free). I just wish the Moto circles widget worked with aftermarket launchers though......
The thing that really blows the Razr HD away is the SGSIII screen. Being a non-pentile display, and with multiple contrast options, it bests the HD screen which is heavily saturated.
I also have the Nexus 4, which is a powerhouse and awesome build quality, but geez the SLCD screen is 5hithouse!!!
I almost got the SG3 it's a nice phone and a tremendous amount of Development on the phone which is a great plus. I was just watching a Youtube commercial displaying the SG4 here's the clip go to Youtube and enter v=p5YPaBkhKZI in search bar (under 10 posts). The SG4 looks like the same as the SG3, and if interest is growing as early as it is now, an SG3 is considered, more than outdated. Certainly, wouldn't want to start a 2 year contract when my elgibile upgrade would be an SG6.
In my opinion, Motorola has more to offer than Gorilla Glass and plastic. These are solid phones, I'll shatter SG3 with my MAXX HD. I can go on two days without a charge. Motorola is a sleeper and one to watch, and where I would rather place my money.

I rooted, cm10'd and modified a RAZR HD for a buddy and he's running 2 1/2 days with Facebook and email background syncing plus other apps, including over 3 hours on screen time. When u can manage that with an s3 come talk to me.
An LTE equipped phone connected to 3g+ network is NOT a fair comparison, because although the lte radio is not active, its still enabled, causing more current pull than your non-lte s3, sorry bud.

Any Ex S3 User

Thinking of jump ship to HTC with the Butterfly... always been with Samsung . Any ex S3 users can chime in on the UI ? Anything that you miss from the S3? Thanks
Update: Just got my Butterfly today and I must say it's gorgeous! Getting aquainted with Sense...

Instead of jumping to butterfly, if available go for S3-LTE (2gb, Quad Core) if you are into emails, native client of S3 is far superior then HTC. Large HD display does add value, however rest not much of a difference.

S3 felt smoother stock vs stock. Not much of a difference, the butterfly physically feels more like a premium phone though. Not really worth going thru the trouble upgrading
have
I haven't it
Once you use the Butterfly you won't ever return back to Amoled screens and that too Pentile
So you had no trouble changing from Touchwiz to Sense?
I hardly used Touchwiz (I actually hate it) ... so if you really like Touchwiz then it will be a learning curve for you ... if you can work on Android independent of tools/launchers then its no big deal

All I can say is that I think HTC is the only company which comes close to the fluidity and design sense of Apple (no pun intended!)
I miss sense now I'm using touchwiz.

I still have my S3 but I am enjoying my Butterfly a lot. Any issues I have is because I have the x920e and the Chinese Govt. have gone to great lengths to neuter any form of Google functionality.
As a personal preference, I like Sense more than I do TW. So at the moment, my S3 has been in my desk drawer collecting dust.
I think TouchWiz is really cartoonish and not as polished as Sense. The Sense E-mail app is much nicer to use in my opinion, then the G-mail one. I have a Galaxy Tab 10.1 and E-mail on it is not nice at all.
just like you i have always used samsung (galaxy s, nexus s, galaxy s2, galaxy nexus, galaxy s3, note, note2, also tab 7.7 and yes i have or had all of that) and the amoled screen but to be honest butterfly is the most beautiful phone i have ever had.. you can literally fall in love with it.. it has a goergeus display and a unibody design you just need to fell it in your hand. also sense is much beautiful than touchwiz. i am not saying you wont need anything else because you will definitly need some apps to get most out of it. anyway just one thing bothers me most and its lack of developer support..

I agree with you.
So far after 3 days I'm very happy with the Butterfly..looks and feel in hand is superb. As for UI, getting used to Sense...there are a few things that make Sense but what i miss most on the Samsung is the sound settings...the ringtone and notification setting is separate so i can have silent on all my notification but ringtone still On...on the Sense its combined..anybody know a way around this?
Missed multi color notification light, missed nfc n android beam in 4.1/4.2,missed active development in s3 section, missed proper hardware dac instead of ****s audio, missed more protective casing, missed removable battery, missed sharper camera, missed those times that rooting your phone doesn't need to submit ur phone id token n void warranty straight away, missed side wake button, missed not so bloated touchwiz, missed able to do vertical n horizontal panoramic shot, missed not so tied up photo gallery that allows u to choose which video player to use to view recorded videos.. A lot more, as u can see, I'm pretty unsatisfied with HTC, not just butterfly. Yet they act like don't know why they are falling behind other manufacturers

Battery Widget Reborn (Just try it, you wont go regret it)
I had the HTC Butterfly Verizon version for a day and returned it. It runs too warm, probably that screen. I don't know how HTC was able to get Jelly Bean to run so un-buttery laggy.
In the end, I much rather have a phone that can be uneasily rooted and have tons of custom roms to choose from. So I went back to my S3 and if all the spec leaks are true the S4 will be my next phone.
I'm actually very happy with this phone. I initially wanted the s3 and note 2 but the cheap built quality turned me off

Just sharing, HTC seem not doing a good job on quality control, my 1st butterfly having 3 dusts trapped inside the screen, so I exchanged it. 2nd butterfly lower left corner touch malfunction, so I exchanged it again, right now I'm on my third butterfly, luckily and finally everything seem working correctly right now...

I have light bleed from bottom navigation keys to screen, especially obvious when watching movies with darker tone.. Build quality with this butterfly is really questionable.. Rear panel paint isn't as smooth when shine on compares to s3..and that led notification light.. Either green or red is just sad in this day n age
