Random hot reboots - HTC Sensation

Evening sensation people, I am a Rezound owner speaking on behalf of my friend. He owns a sensation that since day one has been plagued with random hot reboots. I thought it was a software issue and later found he had a faulty screen. We attempted to root but I could not get s-off using juopuntbear method. He is on ICS, stock ROM. He is rooted but nothing has been modified. He has clockworkmod as well. After replacing the screen and battery he still a year later has these random reboot issues. It is not tied to any particular action or app its just random. I love Android and have great experiences with the platform and want my friends to enjoy it as well power user or not. So if any info is needed please let me know ( logcats etc.). I think XDA's community is the best and I know someone here has an idea or two. I'll be checking back soon and I truly appreciate your time here guys thanks

Might be a faulty sd card or sim.
I'm pretty sure it was verified (as in using the device without these two for a while) but it was not mentioned...
Also, had a full and complete reset of all partitions been tried? Perhaps flush 4Ext recovery, wipe all partitions, and flush RUU. See how that holds.. and again, would be better to try that without sd and sim.

OK I'm not familiar with the 4ezt are you saying to try ruu with no sim installed. We have not tried that?

Random reboots could be a result of a loose battery. Make sure the battery is sitting tight enough in the housing. If it seems to wiggle a bit make sure the contacts are meeting properly on the battery and the device. Wedge a small piece of paper on the top of the battery to secure it.

4ext is a recovery. Similar but different that ClockWorkMod. You can find a link to it in my sig.
A faulty Sim and a faulty regard may cause random Reboot.
As matekaneve mentioned also a wiggling battery can cause this. Thanks for bringing that up

The battery thing is an interesting idea. He is on clockwork mod, should we just install the other recovery and ruu or flash a stock ROM? I'm just not familiar with The sensation and what people are using. Plus I have s-off on my rezound
Also was that supposed to say faulty SD card ?

If he's not s-off the only reasonable way of flushing roms is with 4Ext recovery with the 'SmartFlash' option turned on. Otherwise the kernel cannot be flashed (!!!)
And RUU is an exe file which takes care of mostly everything for you. It's an official HTC thing. You just need drivers so the phone is appropriately recognized by the Pc, and exeute the RUU. It will take care of the rest.
And yeap I meant a faulty sd card (and/or Sim)

[Q] Manually Updating CMR

Im running clockwork mod 2.5.0.7 and through rom manager ive tried updating to 5.something. However it never works, so, i have the .img file for the newest version. how do i update to it manually? Oh and i don't want to use adb.
thanks in advance
I'm guessing you flash it using CWR
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA App
thats what i figured, but it doesn't allow you to flash .img, only .zip. unless im missing something

a) You are missing the whole point of the development section.
b) there is a reason why a number of reputable members here still use cwm 2.5.0.7
SwiftKeyed from my HTC Desire using XDA App.
the only reason im updating is because i want to partition my sd without using adb, but that isn't working out with 2.5
This is the first one for me that partitioning can be done from adb. I love this board as every day I learn something new.

Use gparted for your sd card...
Did u also see there is a Q & A SECTION?!?!?!

Yup that's pretty much the stock sensation... Had the same problem until I flashed a custom Rom... It's just so bloated....

This problem may also be caused by a rogue app that you installed recently. Uninstall the apps that you do not use and see if it still reboots at random. If that still happens, uninstall all apps then install them back one by one to identify the guilty app.
Had the same problem before, and saw a response on another forum. take sd card out, make a copy of it, format it using windows, then copy it all back. That worked for me, no more random reboots...
I think I know to what kind of reboots the op is referring to. It doesn't reboot constantly, but like once a week it will reboot. Is not often but when it happens it is annoying.

Camera not working

Hi,
I have been flashing roms for ages on this phone and my desire so I have a fairly good knowledge, but recently while I was using rcmix sense 4 Rom (Im not saying this rom was anything to do with it) I was unable to open the camera so tried re flashing, super wipes, fixing permissions, different sense roms, cm9 roms and even restoring back ups but still my main camera does not work. My front camera doesn't either but hasn't for ages.

tried going stock by flashing an RUU?
No haven't tried that is it likely to do more than a super wipe?
Thanks

Reflash firmware first. If that doesn't solve it, flash RUU.
Here is the guide for RUU: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26541181 (XDA link)
This is becoming a common thing, mine has done the same thing and become non-responsive. Wipe, firmware, different roms has not helped me. Camera will not start.

The last alternative is to flash RUU. There is no more that can be done in terms of software; it has to be some kind of hardware issue.

Nope no change, downloaded unlocked ruu IMG.zip and done it via bootloader. All went through fine but still no working camera. Replace phone on insurance I think a bit annoying tho. Thanks for the help tho

Small improvement after flashing high quality sense 4 camera zip. Can now open camera but still no picture :-(

All fixed took case off and tapped camera end of the floor, was bored lol but it worked

Lol nothing like getting a bigger hammer. I did the same thing and now my camera also works. I tried everything first. I took a small screwdriver and tapped on the brass colored area around the back camera and now it works!!
Seems like the least technical solution is the best. Not sure how long it will last tho. Don't think a guide can really be written for this tho lol.

My camera not work.
Have you found a solution?
Unlocked, s-on, root, hboot:1.27.000, android revolution hd 6.6.7, 4ext recovery
Sorry for my bad english. I'm a Brazilian.
Hmm, sounds exactly like my problem. Can't fix it with software either, and fixed it with pressing on the camera itself. But after a couple of weeks, it is now back and I can't fix it anymore... :/ Bad hardware...
It also looks like the camera is not entirely horizontal (right side lower than left side)

Is it possible to root in the new update?

I had this phone since it came out, and rooted and S-Off and I had tons of issues. Such as Wifi disconnecting and needing to restart the phone in order for it to work, also sometimes Wifi slowed down to a super crawl. Random reboots, etc. But this probably could of been credited to me dropping it all the time and messing up the internals.
I returned it and got a new one, updated to the latest and haven't rooted. Battery life is amazing, but too much bloatware!!!! Can I root and s-off the latest tmobile software? Cause I tried running the older RUU and that failed to install on my phone.

Um... S-off? The One S?
But yeah unlocking and rooting should be no problem, just use htcs unlock method...

You are saying that HTC them selves provided a rooting guide? If so can you provide a link for HTC Unlock method.
Thanks in advance

No HTC does not provide a rooting guide. They simply make it easy for you to unlock the bootloader using http://www.htcdev.com/
Once the bootloader is unlock you can root via a few method. There's plenty of sticky thread in the dev section.
This is just one thread

I recommend you install TWRP recovery so that you will find it simpler to flash roms. No need to fastboot flash boot.img.

Please read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24806342#post24806342 especially the first part of that post, where a reasonable user kindly seems to suggest that a fellow user read very easy to find info instead of starting a thread. You must have posted that in anticipation of this thread?

Slowing phone response

So I went to 4EXT Recovery and repaired permissions. But that took way longer than usual, like 10 mins.
Does this point to perhaps a corrupt or bad flashed ROM? Or perhaps an app that is being greedy? Or........?

If it keeps lagging it could be possibly the rom. Try and do a clean install meaning wipe fully then reinstall. See if that helps. Or you can try downloading a different rom and see if issue is still present. If issue is gone, could have been the rom. Your going to have to do some experimenting to find out. Hopefully a clean install or different rom will fix your problem. If the issue is still present on different roms it could be your device itself. Check and see with some different roms.
