Hi Guys,
Ive done some preliminary searches and haven't found anything specific yet for this device.
I'm new to rooting devices but attempting to get up to speed asap.
So would there be some people willing to lend their expertise to help me root these devices?
Also under a bit of a deadline with this as I have only about 13- 14 days to get the Toughpad rooted.
No link to Toughpad specs until I have ten posts.
I will try to give out what ever information is needed to get this done.
The Info I have to start with is as follows:
Model no. FZ-a1
Android version: 4.0.3
Kernal : 3.0.8 ( [email protected] )
Build Number : IML74k.V1.01L46M0000
So I'm going to keep looking and learning in the mean time.
Hope to learn a lot, Thanks in advance.
Also if this is in the wrong place let me know and I will move it.
Some basic security specs
I broke the link due to security restrictions.
ftp:/
/ftp.panasonic.com/pub/Panasonic/business/toughpad/downloads/Toughpad_Security_Slick_LR.pdf
I will fix it when I can.

Myself and jbelman seem to have the Dev (rooted) firmware based phones that look like they shouldn't escaped Vodafone and been purchased by the public.
I'm curious as to how many of you have the Dev firmware Build number CRA71C like jbelman and myself and how many have the "standard" version Build number CRB17? The more dev phones we find, the better chance we have in doing the customisation that the majority of HTC owners enjoy (lots of clever people on XDA-Developers...).
In case you are wondering how to do this, here it is:
Press the Menu button
Settings
Scroll down to the bottom "About Phone"
Look at the bottom of the screen starting with Model Number and post the info please.
Cheers
Dave
do expect more exploitation on the MAGIC~!
I'm just a CRB17..
And i need to change my fonts. so I need root!
ROOT access is coming

I think he knows that.... read the post
I didn't before I saw the link so no worries. Exciting isn't it! Roll on proper HTC ROMs! I had looked on the thread earlier but they were still struggling uploading the img. Confused me for a while as it's in the G1 room so never thought of checking. Glad I did now. It feels like your older brother/sister telling you the ways of the world!
Hi all... i have the CRA71C one...
Vodafone Italy (1 week old)
All of my devices are on Test Keys - and I have full root access.
I'm here at Google I/O where about 4,000 Saphires we're given out to all the attendees. All are SIM unlocked and allow loading of unsigned images (confirmed directly by Google Android devs)

Is there anybody out there that has any knowledge on this tablet? The back of it Says D.Age, the model i have seen listed as DA-988 and DA988. Searches on line seem to point to Double Power Tech (DOPO?) as the main company that make them. I am looking to get any information I can on backing up the firmware that is on this tablet, and seeing if there is any custome roms anywhere arount for it. I believe it has a boxchip A13 1.2 processor in it. If there is a way to get more information, please let me know, and I will post what is needed. I do have this info from the about screen:
Model Number DA988
Android Version 4.0..4
Baseband version 1.5
Kernel Version 3.0.8
Build Number 98v2-P1-H1-H01-2833.20121103
Any thoughts or help would be great
Thanks everyone.

Hello! I am new and I want to know all there is to know about rooting my phone... I read the software compatability list for rooting, but I could not find my phone listed anywhere. I am looking for a way to root my phone without using a pc because I currently do not have access to it. I have seen videos on YouTube that demonstrate ways to root android phones without the use of one, and I am very interested. In the video I read comments saying that their methods did not apply to all and there was a comment that directed me to this website and the compatibility list. honestly it couldn't get any simpler than having a list directing you to exactly what you need, unless you have a device not on the list ^_^;
I am a total newbie to all of this and I would really appreciate the help...
Please email me:

Hi, thank you for using XDA Assist. I would check in this thread, http://www.xda-developers.com/root/ Please be aware that there are very few root methods that can be done without a PC.

Hello. I'm not sure if this is a good place to ask, but at this point, it can't really get much worse. I know that this is a good, reliable site, and I figured that if anyone could help me, they'd be here.
I got a VL-107 (Visual Land Prestige 7) the other day and it's been a nightmare. I can't use Pandora because it crashes constantly, I can't use my favorite texting app because it freezes and crashes the moment I start typing, I can't use Snapchat because "my device isn't compatible". I spent several hours yesterday just getting the Play Store installed and working.
I suspect that the OS is the main problem (4.1.1, but I've never seen such a horrible Android OS, so I don't know if it's clean), and I'd like to update to a more recent Android version (hopefully 4.4.2 or so). I've seen a lot of stuff talked about, like Clockwork Mod, something called LiveSuit, etc but the most recent .img file I've seen was I believe 4.0.3, so obviously that's not what I'm going for.
In some places (maybe tabletroms), I've seen talk of people being able to make modifications by treating their VL-107s as "Allwinner tablets", but I didn't fully understand whether that would still be valid. I'm willing to do some experimentation with updating if need be, since at this point I basically consider the tablet as good as bricked.
I have a basic understanding of installing ROMs, and my tablet is rooted. There are no system updates available.
Specs (I don't fully understand these, so go easy on me):
Model Number: VL-107
Android Version: 4.1.1
Baseband Version: inet1.0_20121016
Kernel Version: 3.0.8+, [email protected] #19, Fri Jun 21 14:04:01 CST 2013
Build Number: 86FV0620130715W01G01T01

Hello, and welcome to XDA!
Based on the kernel version, looks like you have been upgraded to something custom already, and it's buggy. You may want to go back to 4.0.3 for some stability. At that point, some of the failed apps you tried may start working (assuming they don't have a minimum requirement of JellyBean or KitKat).
I would, check out this thread, it's the best place where your device experts can be found:
> General discussion > Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking > Creating a Backup/Recovery/Dump
Note, in order to post there, you will need to have an XDA account.
Hope this helps, and good luck!

Thanks a lot, I found out that I'm registered already so I'm going to head over to that board right now and see what I can find. I'm happy to go back to an older version if it means a working tablet.
Hi all
I really appreciate all the info and knowledge on these forums but I do have a big concern which is I could be going down a dead end having spent many hours getting there.
Can I suggest that there is some very basic notes or a guide that will give almost yes / no answers, an example may be " Can any Android device have its OS updated to a later version?" or
" Can all required binary blobs be extracted from an Android device ?" and this will let someone know if they are looking at doing what cannot be done.
thanks Roy

Hello,
that's easy:
Code:
if (question=easy) {
answer = yes/no
} else {
wall of text
}

Simple answer, not all android devices are equal.
Can the bootloader be unlocked, is it a Qualcomm device, is it a Samsung device?
Those and a dozen other specs affect the answers.
Thanks for the feedback,

But a simple flow chart could really help, simple yes/no so if you say yes to the bootloader can be unlocked then onto chipsets, so does it have Qualcom and you say no, then does it have Mediatek and you say yes it could say this is possible but now get reading the forums and learn because it is feasable and not going to take you to a dead end.
Yes/no answers would be too restrictive in some cases. A full answer would help you more.
Otherwise, you'll turn into a 5-yo:
"Yes"
"why?"
"Because 'this' is how it works."
"why?"
