[Q] 64 gig memory card doesnt work on GS3 after Root and JellyBomb ROM - General Questions and Answers

I rooted my Galaxy S3 and installed JellyBomb ROM as well however my phone cant see my 64 gig SD card anymore. Ive searched on the forums and have found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1410262 to install DirectoryBind but once I install it I still cant find my external SD using the path /mnt/emmc/. The 64 gig SD card worked perfect before the Root and ROM and the files are still on the card but I cant access them through my S3. Anyone have any suggestions?

Maybe it is related to the filesystem of your sdcard partition.

Maybe there is something missing on the ROM... most likely if it worked before

I tried to reinstall the ROM and still the same thing.. Not sure what to do now? :banghead:

SD Card Issues

I bought a new 32 gig sd card, I copied the filed on my existing card to a folder on my computer then transferred it to my 32 gig sd card. When I try flashing a rom from my new card it doesn't go thru, if I try flash it from my old sd it go thru fine.
What is happening or what am I doing wrong ?

Its a Sandisk 32 gb SD card. I bought it online cant remember exactly where right now.
What file format did you use to format it?
Not sure I used the formatter in the link above. Is there a specific format and formatter I need to use?

Yeah, I'd like to know as well... I have an 8g card and I did a 512 ext and the rest Fat32... do I need to set the ext partition to ext3 or will that happen automatically depending on the rom...

Okay guys I need to figure this out so here goes again:
I just bought a 32gb scan disk SD card to replace a 8gb I had. When I try flashing a ROM or rebooting in recovery with the 32gb card in the phone it gets stuck on that black screen with the android logo and the triangle. If I use my 8 gb card everything proceeds smoothly. I have formatted it but I get the same result.
Can any one tell me how to fix this problem?
Do you have a card reader on your computer? I had a similar issue when I was using the "quick format" option in windows. Once I did the longer version it worked fine.

[MOD]App2ExtSD2 [Works for all U.S. Galaxy S3!]

This is a hack that that allows you to swap internal storage with your external SD card so you can increase your app data storage.
All credits go to original i9300 App2ExtSD Hack by mattiadj. I simply hacked it to work with U.S. versions and also I've added code so it will disable this feature when you don't have a microSD card inserted (app storage will default to internal when no microSD card is inserted).
E.g. If you have 16GB internal storage on Galaxy S3, you can install this witih a 64GB microSD card and swap the storage and get 64GB on your app storage instead of 16GB.
Before you can use this, you will need:
1) Rooted Galaxy S3 (SCH-I535/SPH-L710/SGH-T999/SCH-I747) or also Canadian versions too (i747m, etc...etc...)
2) A ROM/kernel with init.d support!
3) I've only tested this with TouchWiz-based ROMs, so it should work on stock ROMs and any TouchWiz-based ROMs, not sure on CM9 or CM10.
4) You must use the FAT32 or EXTFAT zip file below, depending on what format your microSD Card is in! (e.g. if you have a FAT32 microSD card, use FAT32)
To get this working, simply flash the zip files in your CWM Recovery:
Download and Details:
http://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-t...-external-microsd-for-u-s-canadian-galaxy-s3/
If you do not have init.d support, you can also enable on any rooted phone by using Script Manager, here's a quick tutorial:
I recommend you to FORMAT your microSD card once to get camera working flawless before using this hack!
How to disable this:
If for some reason you are having trouble, simply delete /system/etc/init.d/11extsd2internalsd.
OR
if you leave your microSD card out during boot (then re-insert it after), your phone will work as normal (internal storage used for app data).
Nevermind, I thought it was a data2sd type thing, not just an SD swap. This is very nice! I prefer everything to be on my external card!
How do you know if your card is exfat or fat32?

I use GL to SD for that. I think the mod is a great idea, but after seeing so many non-readers, surely some Rom flashers will format the wrong partition and bring their blame to the devs...sad really.
What I would like to see is a mod that brings back android 2.x "move app to SD" functionality.

If you have a microsd card adapter (i highly recommend having one), plug it into your computer and do right click->properties for windows, others should be similar. Go google it.
Thanks man! Been wanting this since day 1 and almost started regretting getting a 16gb S3.
Downloading now and will be testing out in my FAT32 64gb sdcard on Synergy 1.7.
EDIT: should have investigated further about what this is doing.
Note that if you want to delete, you must use a ROOT Explorer, and Enable Both Root and Mounting of System to delete the file.

If you play a lot of games, GTA is like almost 1GB, the real 16GB internal only provides 10GB in reality, meaning if you play more than 10 games like GTA you run out of space real quick.
But I don't use that much space.

You can, but my advise is to start fresh with an empty SD card so you don't get confused later.
I flashed this at the same when flashing Bean's latest and greatest. So now I see the SDcard and EXTSDcard show the same files and the same size. How can I browse the Internal SD? It does not appear when I plug it in my computer or when browsing using Root Explorer or Astro

Might be not compatible with Bean's. That happens when the script isn't working correctly, you should see two different sizes.

Trouble with 64gb SD card

Anyone have this card http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B007W...-5410429?ref_=pe_175190_21431760_M3T1_SC_dp_1 or any 64gb SD card? I'm having a problem getting cwm to recognize it. I already reformatted it and still it does not work in cwm. Anyone know anything about this? My 32gb card works just fine

I guess cwm does not support exfat which the gs3 defaults to when formatting 64gb cards. I found out here http://forums.androidcentral.com/sp...ting-roms-hacks/184708-64gb-micro-sd-cwm.html I need to partition the card with a program. I'll do that tomorrow I'm going to bed lol

One of those "believe it or not" things: the SDXC (SD eXtended Capacity = 64GB or more) specification says that the default (factory) format is exFAT. The GS3 recognizes both exFAT and FAT32, but some ROMS do not support exFAT due to Microsoft's funky licensing.

You don't need to partition it. You need to format it to Fat32 as was mentioned.
I am now on my 3rd 64GB MicroSD, the same one in OP.
It works when I get it, but it preformatted as exFat, which wont work with ROM.
The first 2 SDs I used EaseUS Partition to format as Fat32. Format went fine, but when I went to place files on card, card unmounted. This last one I used Ridgecorp’s Fat32Format, but same problem.
When I insert card, Win7 sees it, but if I go to format/write it disconnects.
Before I send this third one back to amazon, any ideas how to format it?
FYI, I took the last one to a frien with a mac to see if he could fix it, after i tried to format Fat32, but no luck.

Yea, I believe that's the same card I have(had for working on 3 1/2 months now) and I used the Ridgecorp GUI utility in this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1773735 to format it as soon as I got it.
I've loaded it with music and continue to play said music all the time, use my ext for all my ROM downloading and storage. I access it all the time thru the phone and computer with no problems attributed to the card. (Some ROMs screw with my computer seeing my phone period)
Surprise! TW UI Did the trick!
S'up Crew
I don't know if this would apply to anyone on this thread but I bought a SanDisk 64GB MicroSDXC and my SGS3 Wouldn't recognize the card and all.
At the time I was running CM10 Stable.
After trying several different methods found around the forums (both here and external) nothing worked.
W7 would only recognize it as a 32GB because of OS limitations and with every single third party software I tried it was always the same thing (32GB only).
So on a whim I decided to try a slightly different approach.
I flashed a backup I had of the Original Touch Whiz UI I had laying around back onto the device. Shoved the SD card into it and LO and BEHOLD.. It recognized the card.. Erased the Contents and Formated it properly!
I went into Titanium Backup to see if it actually worked and there it was..
63.xGB.. Woohoo!
So apparently CM has problems seeing a 64GB MircoSDXC correctly and the Stock Touch Whiz UI OS works nicely to see it and format it.
Hope this helps the next person who reads this!
I formatted my 64GB class 10 card in my Mac to fat32 and it has worked fine since.

Blank SD card error

Since flashing to the most recent updated ICS I've had issues with my SD cards. Once the phone gets started this error appears....
Blank SD card
SD card blank or has unsupported file system
This error happened with 2 SD cards and at first I thought it was done for but they work fine on my pc. When the phone suggests that I format the SD card I do it (no worries since I backed all pics up on the pc) but I still get this error and it really doesn't format because I still see the files on the pc
Can't browse (from phone or recovery)
Can't mount to mass storage
Can format from the phone
Again I can view files, delete etc from the phone no problem
Is there a fix for this issue? I really need to get my SD card working...
Thanks in advance

Note 10.1 sd card won't mount.

Hey guys, I have a Galaxy Note 10.1 and I just got a SanDisk 64Gb class 10 micro sd card for it. I have the same cars for my S4 and it works fine. However when I insert the new card into my note it says "checking sd card" and then will immediately say "safe to remove sd card". I can write and format the card in my computer and when I format it to NTSF (which I know android won't read) I get it to tell me that I need to format the sd card which I do and it works fine. Then once format is compete it does the same problem.
I put the new card into my S4 and it mounted fine. Now before you tell me it's a problem with my Note 10.1 read this:
I have a 8Gb SanDisk microSD that works just fine. Also when I put the 64Gb card in and boot to TWRP recovery I can mount and write to the card just fine.
I am running Hyper Drive rtl3 and I had the problem. So I wiped and updated to hyper drive rtl4 and the problem still exists.
I'm really baffled by this problem. Any ideas guys?
Also after I post this I plan to take the 64gb card that is in my S4 and trying it in my note. I'll post back what happens.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Sadly, formatting my Samsung 64GB UHC to FAT 32 from eFAT didn't help. As before, when I slip the card into the slot for a microsecond the "Mount SD Card" appears then greys out and in the tastbar appears "Preparing SD card checking for errors" and this message stays there for eternity or until I either take the card out or reboot.
Cmcole101 mine dose the same thing did you ever end up fixing it?
