[Q] Lost 3G since rooting - Optimus One, P500, V Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all
I've rooted my lg p500 using super one click, and install recovery 1.2.
Then i've flushed a couple of ICS roms, and in all, i don't have any 3g connection. When i try to "scan for networks" i get a toast saying error while scanning.
What can i do?..
should i flash a radio or something?

If you were on Froyo when you rooted, you were on the old Baseband.
The ICS ROMS work on the New Baseband.
Hence you will need to upgrade the baseband - easiest way will be to search & apply the "Old BB Fix".

old Bb fix don't work for ics and jb rom
try gingerbread rom or flash a new baseband

Thanks.
I did try to flash old bb fix - didn't work, as androidisfuture suggested.
androidisfuture - can u point me to howto for the new bb?

Works on ICS Hephappy's ROM.
Also, ICY Snap by Neko ( again based on Hep's ICS ) has builtin Old BB Fix which you can activate through the Terminal Emulator.

Other than flashing the baseband fix, the baseband can be changed to new by upgrading to GB using LG Update.
There are other methods like LGMDP - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15250036&postcount=1 or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1217504 are two threads which will help you upgrade to new baseband using LGMDP

i got there, but when running LGMDP i don't see my device when pressing "select port".
i've installed LG usb drivers, am i supposed to install the "SUPPORT TOOL" too? i've tried but it is simply stuck while installing... as i read around here this is an unknown network problem.

Did you disable lg modem first?
( in right click mycomputer->manage->device manager->modems->right click on lg modem disable it)
Check your PM
But before doing this, do keep a nandroid backup of your current system through the recovery, just in case you need to revert.

Thanks pmvyas,
I've already check the "lg modem" thing - i dont have lg modem in my device manager (i also don't see "modems", i have "network adapters").
Does this means something is not installed?

Means the LG mobile drivers are not properly installed in your PC.
Uninstall & re-install http://www.mediafire.com/?d3i35a73a344qk4

Finally managed to solve the problem.
I didn't see the modem on my PC because the phone was running ICS rom - no signal, no USB recognitaion (can't use SD card either).
I've flashed a 2.2 rom, and then i could see it in the device manager as modem. From here all worked as the tutorials said.
Thanks pmvyas!

To everyone.. BB fixes work with all android versions.
- CWM (old baseband) recovery is recommended.. latest Amonra or others dont support bbfix patches.
( If you are on Old Baseband.. you should use old bb recoveries.)
- Both BBfixes are in my signature.

Now that you are on New baseband, you can try out the ICS's & JB's as per your choice, with network & data

Help || "Error while searching for networks"

I was using CM7 by mik_os on my Optimus One and my phone was working fine. I wanted to try ICS on my phone and installed 4.0.3 by Lupohirp. Thats the beginning of my problems. Once installed, there is no reception on the phone. When i go to network operator selection, on manual selection of networks it gives error "Error while searching for networks" and when i select Automatic selection it shows "Unable to connect to this network at this time. Please try again later". I am sure i had wiped all the data, cache before installing ICS ROM. Hoping to correct this, i installed Oxygen ROM, but still the phone cannot get the signal.
Please help me. I m guessing this is something to do with the baseband/kernel..about which i dont know much.
Old Baseband(V10?) - Froyo and variants,mik's cm7
New Baseband(V20?) - gb and variants,ics and variants,oxygen,cm10
If you want to just try a new baseband rom flash the following fix:
New BasebandFix by adfad666
It is only temporary and you will have to flash it each time you flash a new baseband rom.
If you revert to a old baseband rom, no fix needed.
For a permanent fix use the following tutorial:
[HOWTO] Flashing baseband (radio) via LGMDP.exe - Flash P500-v20G-baseband.7z
Or(i prefer the method below):
flash gb(v20g) through kdz>>root>>cwm recovery>>flash cm9

ive recently got the p920 and it was locked to orange so ive unlocked it but now i want to get rid of the orange bloatware. I have now rooted and installed CWM recovery and have attempted to install a stock rom now heres were my problem starts the rom installs fine but there baseband doesnt so i dont get a signal ect. so my question is have i done summit wrong when installing from zip in recovery?
Any help with this would be great thanxs.
You mean that your mobile running 2.2 and you install a costum rom (.zip) ??
This costum rom may be a gingerbread rom so you must upgrade your phone officially before flashing costem rom .

yes i can see my imei number
my base band is L6260_MODEM_SIC_01.1042.00
software version LG920-V20D-JUN-27-2012
android version 2.3.5
this is an orange based rom n would like to have it on stock
there is different stocks on different times (first was v10a)
this is not your base band This is INFINEON stuff.. go to market place and take GetRIL
Install. Run, See your base band version.
You can also isntall from there the recommended RIL for your configuration. Wait a minute (do not exit the program). if you do not have still signal - then RESTORE RIL back from the program (the program make a backup of you RIL when you install new one)
I've tried that getril and it said baseband matched but still no imei number once I've installed a custom/stock Rom. Looks like ill have to keep the orange Rom
Sent from my LG-P920 using xda premium
IMO getril is pretty useless and most of the time you're better off when they don't match.
Why are you uncomfortable flashing a baseband? Its not as simple as a zip and can be a pain but once you get it, you have so many more options.

im used to htc phones n iphones n have never done anything with lg mobile hence the not wanting to do the baseband

[Q] LG P500 help!

I am not a pro at installing android os. I am 16. I recently installed Cyanogenmod 10 (Android 4.1) on my phone (LG Optimus One) and I can't call. I use Simple Mobile. Whenever I try to call, it says,"Mobile Network not available". If you don't know a way to fix this. Can you show me how to put it back into Froyo 2.2?
Seems you are on old baseband and you have flashed a rom which is based on new baseband. Just search for ' old bb fix ' and flash this from your recovery. You will get back your network.

Nvm, I got it. I have the same problem for the Galaxy S2 model t989 too. It dropped in the water, then it can't read the sim card. So can you give me a link to old bb fix for S2 T989 plz? Thank you.
Ok, apparently, I installed a different old bb fix and now that doesn't work , then I installed the one you gave to me but then it didn't work. So I am stuck again. Please help.
goto settings, abouth phone and read what is your baseband, if it's v10 that is old, if its v20 it is new,
if it is old update via LGMDP to latest version 2.3 GB(if PC doesn't recognize your phone, boot into recovery, conect usb cable an from advance/mounts mount usb), install, reboot, now you'll have fresh oficial GB, root with Superoneclick latest version(maybe you will need to do it few times, for me it didn't go first time, if I remember it was at 3rd time or so), install CWM trough RomManager and after that you are good to go with what ever you want to put in that phone, anyway, all ccustom roms from 2.3.7 are for newbb

Updating my p509 from 2012/2013

I purchased an Optimus T (P509) in 2012 and had it unlocked to use on a trip I went to europe. I played around with it a lot and messed with custom roms and basebands, and then left it alone for about a year. I'm now downsizing my phone/tech collection in general and looking to update this to use as a daily driver.
Here's the info about my phone:
ClockworkMod recover v5.0.2.0
Baseband: LGP509AT-00-V10l-OPEN-COM-OCT-23-2010
CyanogenMod version: 10-20130108-UNOFFICIAL-p509
Build number: cm_p509-userdebug 4.1.2 JZO54k eng.arjen.20130108.030427 test-keys
My questions are:
What updates to baseband (if any) do I need to do? Would this mess up my unlock?
Do I need to flash a new recovery?
What ROM would be best for my needs as a daily driver? requirements are stable without crashes and everything works, followed by the newest android version.
Really the rom part I can experiment with later, I'm just not sure if I've hosed myself with the baseband 'fixes' that I recall messing with 2 years ago. I have a new sim card on the way that I will use with this.

1 - Actually upgrading baseband on that device would lock you out of some frequencies the radio ( not the FM radio ) uses to communicate with the carriers towers. I also have a Optimus T ( P509 ), tho no longer in service.
2 - Depends if you want KitKat ( 4.4 ). If you do then you'll need CWM 6.0.4.4 or newer. I am currently working on a utility for older CWM versions to be able to install KitKat but until then you'll need what I just mentioned. If not too interested in KitKat then you can leave your recovery as is. I use CWM 5.0.2.7 Touch by @vivekkalady. I've been using her recovery since she introduced it.
3 - You'll have to search and make that decision for yourself as we all have different needs and habits.

That's interesting what you said about the current baseband, I'm not sure if I changed it after I last used it. But I turned off airplane mode and popped in a T-mob sim and it wasn't able to connect to a network, similar results with H2O wireless card (at&t mvno). I'm not sure if my current version of android is messed up or the baseband.
I don't mind upgrading CWM, is there any downside to doing so? Is there a kitkat build out now that works? I may want to use KitKat as I hear it's meant to be more usable on smaller memory systems like the p509.
I don't mind finding one I like eventually, but looking for a recommendation to start off with that should work without too much difficulty.
Thanks for you help so far, I hope if can figure out this cell network problem :-/

Either your APN settings are wrong, which you can manually fix, or you did upgrade/downgrade/change baseband. The P509 is supposed to be an old baseband phone. The P500 and P509 are identical. Only difference is the P500 is a new baseband device. You can flash a P500 ROM. If you don't get any signal, then most likely your on old baseband. There is a patch for that, no biggie. If you do get signal then you're on new baseband and you should continue to use P500 ROMs. If you decide to flash a P509 ROM you won't have any service which will be a baseband issue. There is a new baseband patch around here somewhere too.
You can find a link to the old baseband patch in the LG Optimus One FAQ. Post #8 or #9, I think.

I wasn't certain what my starting point was since I'd done this so long ago (and I thought I applied the old BB fix at some point too...). Anyways, I took a drastic step and installed the stock rom V10s_00.kdz with the kdz installer from LG. It successfully flashed and I don't have a brick on my hands
The problem is now the phone doesn't recognize any sim cards, of which I've tried 3: tmobile micro, h2o micro, and a gophone minisim. The microsims were put in a cut out minisim as an adapter. The gophone is a normal minisim that is uncut, but it's not activated. I never got a locked or bad sim message, just that there is no sim card in place.
Under phone status it shows a signal strength (varies -65 to -75 and 25 asu)
Under APN settings it matches the T-mobile ones
And the baseband via secret menu is amss6038
I'm wondering if the sim module or gsm module are messed up? I kinda want to try out the emergency calling but would rather not get the police involved
I messed up my SIM contacts when I left an adapter in there and pulled it a little too hard out! I removed the compression plate on the back and it works again. I'll have to get a small piece of electronic safe foam to apply pressure to the back of the SIM to keep it in proper position. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2598308)
I'm interested in the kitkat build here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2589303
If I were to want to use that, do I need to flash the baseband fix on top of the other install instructions? Anything special in terms of timing it at a certain point in the install process?
Thanks for your help so far, I forgot how much fun messing with android was

Well, we still aren't sure if your device is new or old baseband. With the recovery you already have, flash CM10.1, CM10.2, or CM10.3 ( All JellyBean ). Latest CM10.2 builds can be downloaded here. Easiest way to work around the baseband thing is to figure out which ROMs, P500 or P509, that will give you cell service. Flash a P509 ROM. If no service then you upgraded baseband so you'll need to use P500 ROMs. Flash a P500 ROM and if no service then you're on old baseband and you should use P509 ROMs. Only difference between P500 and P509 ROMs is the P500 ROMs are NEW baseband and the P509 ROMs are OLD baseband.
As of now the only KitKat ROMs being build are for the P500. If you find you are OLD baseband, flash the oldbb fix from the FAQ I mentioned a couple posts back. Oh, and you'll need the newest CWM 6.0.4.4 or newer recovery to flash KitKat.

Well, I'm on the old baseband, the reason I know is I used KDZ to nuke it back to p509 stock! The more I read about kdz after I did it the more scared I got, but I lucked out and everything is fine now
The sim unlock is preserved, and I successfully rooted it with gingersnap. I don't have any sort of recover on it yet, it looks like CWM 6.0.4.4 does not work with older roms, just Kitkat based ones. So I'll do some more homework and figure out if I want to jump right into KK or try JB first.
Thanks for all your help, you gave me a quick jumpstart and brought back a lot of knowledge that was tucked away in the back corner of my brain!

[Q] No service, tried everything

I got a p500h from my friend since my razr droid died and I needed something to hold me over until I can save up for the note3. It had 2.2 on it so I flashed CM 10.1 for 4.2.2. When I put my sim card in I had no service.
I checked the baseband and it was unknown so I flashed it for v.20 and it appeared but I still get no service.
I don't have gapps installed because I don't really need it.
And that's pretty much it. I can't think of anything else to try, can someone help? I'm using a non-smart phone in the meantime and it is quite terrible.
Try the old Baseband fix, that did it for me some years ago, not sure if you need the v10 baseband coming from 2.2 but the fix should work. You can find it here on the Forum.
If nothing works, use kdz to flash the Stock Rom and start over.

Thanks, I wanted to try that but when I go to download the milk_os fix at the bottom of this page

I get redirected to some bull****(lp.downloadsetup.net)
And I just don't trust this thing, is this really what I'm suppose to download?
Is definitely the fault of baseband. Some rom is incompatible with any type of baseband. Try to download from play store an application with baseband-ril match...

And that's pretty much it. I can't think of anything else to try, can someone help? I'm using a non-smart phone in the meantime and it is quite terrible.

Sounds like you have an old baseband phone, but you flashed a new baseband ROM on it. In that case, simply flash the zip indicated below (I suggest you mount /system in recovery before flashing, even though the script auto-mounts /system, just to be sure). I'm attaching two zips for the sake of completeness; the one you want is the Use_New_BB_ROMS.zip.
Use_New_BB_ROMS.zip -- Flash this zip if you're trying to use a new baseband ROM on a phone that uses the old baseband. If you have no network on 2.3 and above ROMS, your phone probably uses the old baseband, so this is the zip you need.
Use_Old_BB_ROMS.zip -- Flash this zip if you're trying to use an old baseband ROM on a phone that uses the new baseband. If you have no network on 2.2 and below ROMS, your phone probably uses the new baseband, so this is the zip you need.

I tried to flash it but I get an error: can't copy META-INF/com/google/android/updated-binary
Should I be wiping cache for this? Dalvik cache?
I used LGMDP-v1.5 to get bb v.20 on my phone in the first place, I tried to do the same with v.10 after v.20 didn't work but it just went back to baseband unknown. when I tried to download the milk_os fix it just linked me to some phishing page.
What recovery are you using? I've tried with AmonRa & CWM 5.0.2.0 and both work. Other CWM versions will probably work, too. Haven't tried with TWRP.
If this flashed successfully but you still don't have service, then you might have borked something when changing baseband in KDZ. If that's the case, then hopefully others will be able to help you as I've never touched KDZ myself.

I got a p500h from my friend since my razr droid died and I needed something to hold me over until I can save up for the note3. It had 2.2 on it so I flashed CM 10.1 for 4.2.2. When I put my sim card in I had no service.

I tried it, here's what happened.
First I just flashed it, I checked the baseband, it was unknown. Previously it was v.20 so I tried flashing in v.10 since this was a fix for v.10 AFAIK
Still unknown.
Tried flashing the fix again just to overwrite whatever it needed to overwrite and still unknown.
I'm back to square 1 on this one.
