So back when I was on Froyo and GB + root the camera and video playback worked flawlessly.
Since then, I've updated/flashed over to Slim_ICS + Lightning Launcher. I can record video just fine. But when I go to playback any sort of media, whether it be from youtube or facebook or something I've had on my SD card already, or something I record with the camera; the screen with flicker constantly and the frames will freeze (sound will continue to play). If it tap the video it'll pause play back and then catch up and resume. Sometimes it will work after the tap, sometimes it won't. I'm led to believe it has something to do with the latest flash over, since on the two previous builds it never gave any issues...
I also downloaded a aftermarket app ( MX player ) and still the same issue. Any ideas?

Does this only happen on SlimICS + Lightning Launcher?
Tried just SlimICS?
Try any other rom?
Does this happen on CM9 r8? (without lightning launcher.)

It seems to be on the SlimICS + Lightning Launcher.
Previously I was running GB + root + CWM + basic with a twist KJ6 and ADW.Launcher, and everything was good. I have not tried any other roms yet. I'm looking into the next one to try actually. Been thinking about going back down to GB or at least changing to a new launcher.
If it makes a difference, I did jump from GB + KJ6 over to SlimICS without previously having CM7 or CM9 installed. (I did this for two reasons, 1.) as I was doing my research on CM9 I noticed a lot of issues that I wanted to stay away from, 2.) erikmm himself said it wasn't necessary to have either version previously installed.) Now could this be the red-flag issue? I did a complete wipe/factory reset before the flash over. Though I did not flash over the zip twice as one user said to do in order to do the jump smoothly.
Just thought I'd post an update.
Went ahead and switched to GO Launcher. Cleared cache and rebooted phone. Video playback works fine now!
Though I think I'll go back to ADW.launcher. I like it more than GO so far.

Im running 2.3.2 CM7 & 2.3.3 Detoxed with netarchy's kernel, and everytime i go to watch a video over wifi on the app the video plays normally for around 15/20 mins then the problems begin.
Video crashes totally but sound continues.
Video goes to small view on the app, with double sound with a delay between the two.
Video plays normal but with the media controls showing constantly and cant remove them.
When this happens i have to go back to the iplayer main screen pick the program again and seek to the position where it crapped out, however if there is more than 15/20 mins left it will repeat the errors again forcing me to seek back to the point where it crapped out again.
I have 10.1 Flash installed and have tried re-installing it and fixing permissions, and these errors happen under 2.3.2 & 2.3.3
Anyone else getting this ?
it's fine on stock 2.3.3
I've found it to be a very unreliable and buggy app in general. So I doubt its any problem with your device.
Just hope they are working on improving it!
So the only thing that I have noticed that is fairly annoying is this:
You open up the video camera and you start to record (mind you it's set for 720p recording 1280x720). After 8 seconds (or 10 sometimes) it stops working. Menu, Back etc. nothing works except hitting home button.
Going back into the app its still stuck. Eventually it moves to the view the video screen, and when you go back it says "Video Recording Failed".
You do this maybe once or twice, and then you're good, no more problems for that moment when you want to record.
Anyone else?

Yeah I am also experiencing that problem but there is another issue I am having with the gallery and video player. For example If i watch one video, exit the video and choose another, the phone starts to FC and goes crazy and the only fix is to reboot because it does the same thing over and over again. Its is really irritating especially since I record a lot of videos on this phone and i want to watch the video before i upload it.

I'm on stock KD1, but it was happening on stock KB5 as well.
It's not like I can't work around it, and it only happens for recording 1280x720 resolution videos. Might even be SD related who knows.
I used to have the same problen when recording on the camera's highest resolution. Once I switched the sd card to a 16gb class 6, never had that problem again.

Possible phone defect, maybe?

yeah i made sure to go into the settings and check the 1280x720. recorded fine. Maybe a clean start and flash may do the trick?
I completely started all over again. backed up stock memory card to computer. formatted it, then flashed phone to Kxx rom then downloaded all apps and rebuilt my launcher and home screens. I now have no issues what so ever. I think it was due to all the crap that i was dl'ing and uninstalling along with flashing. One more thing, fixed all of my permissions after doing the whitehawkz mods and CWM beta. phone is snappy and happy, no FC's and all seems to be working fine.
or like smokey said, change out sd card and see what happens...
I'm using KD1 but I have an 8gb class 10 card and I'm not experiencing this problem.

Yeah I think that if I did that chadster and got a higher class SD it would probably resolve it.
Also probably not a bad idea to do what fknfocused suggested either. I've stayed pretty stock but getting that itching to mod the phone up. UOT Kitchen does have support for Edify scripting but probably has a few things that may or may not work well with TW.
Anyhow, I'm getting the urge to mod.
Just noticed this:
update-cm-7.2.0-RC2-smb_a1002-signed.zip
http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=smb_a1002&type=RC
Anybody try it yet?
I'm still on a 1.1 Recovery, but that should not be a problem for this ROM right?
Post if you install and the success you have please. Thanks - Dan
CM7
I am running CM7.1.0.1 i am afraid to change roms due to lack of success with past flashes. I am pretty much outdated on my rom but it doesn't seem like developers are producing a lot of this particular tablet....or maybe its just me. Are any of you guys rocking a must have ROM for the tablet. I am also running into issues where i'll have to reset my tablet to access wifi. It'll freeze between screens when I enter my wireless settings. If you want me to i'll back everthing up using TB and Nandroid and try this new one if no one wants to take the plunge!
OK, I've installed it. Here's my review:
Upgrade Details:
Viewsonic G-Tablet - 1.1 Bootloader
Clockwork Recovery newly from latest ROM Manager (5.0.0.6)
Previous ROM - Official CyanogenMod 7.1.0.1
Method:
Reboot into Recovery - Wiped/Deleted/Formatted/Erased/Reset to Factory Defaults - Everything I could.
Re-partitioned 2048/0, even though I think it was that way already.
Wiped/Deleted/Formatted/Erased/Reset to Factory Defaults - Everything I could - again - and then again - a few more times, and then once again.
In case you are not comprehending the subtly of the above, let me clarify: I was trying to do a clean install.
Installed 7.2.0 RC2 from link in first post of thread.
Did NOT install Gapps, Sound Fix, Camera Fix or do any Market fix.
Observations:
- The 7.1.0.1 Bug of not having WiFi turned on upon reboot is fixed.
- WiFi Seems to connect more quickly/reliably than 7.1.0.1 - Probably (should) has DHCP bug fixed.
- Seems to have it's own audio fix. Multimedia Volume appears momentarily after boot, and sound seems to work (mostly) fine.
- DPI is set low for me -- I'll have to mess with build.prop
- Camera Works - Orientation seems correct, Snapped picture was clear, and there are more camera settings.
- There is no DSP Manager.
- In CyangenMod settings -- if you enable Screen-off Animation (Twilight Zone effect), it won't wake from a manual sleep.
- Still has problem of dockbar (not notification bar) disappearing, and I do not know how to get it back. Have to place an open/close app draw Icon on the home screens.
- Web Browser stability/speed seems better than 7.1.0.1 - This may be as much because of the wipe as anything else.
- I installed the Google Apps via the run-once market fetcher. This worked well with the exception of Google Maps:
- Current Google Maps causes almost immediate *bad* crash back to the Cyanogen Spinning arrow, and it stays there. I have to force a full reboot by power cycling. Will need to downgrade to a Maps 5.x.x I have on an SD Card someplace.
- Not sure whats up with Google Talk - Camera works for an instant, but seems to freeze, no audio. Google Talk does not seem to be in the Market, This Google Talk was in the ROM.
- Market Updated to Play automatically. Works fine. Most apps seem to be there.
- Some YouTube HQ videos still only play with HQ off. While messing with this, at some point I lost audio, and had to do the headphones in-out to get speaker audio back.
- 3D Tegra optimized game worked well with good frame rates. (Ground Effect XHD)
Look:
Definitely good ole' Gingerbread - Very few cosmetic changes from 7.1.0.1 - No CM9/Honeycomb look/icons or wallpapers. A few new Cyanogen wall papers that were not in 7.1.0.1
Skype
Just curious if you have tried Skype and the results.

Sorry, but I do not use Skype.
I'll try a standard SIP client, and report back.
Now, with a Little more time on it, I can report that it is a perfectly useable ROM. I have not seen anything that would be a show stopper, or prevent this from being a release.
WiFi is definitely improved, and I would recommend it as an upgrade from 7.1.0.1.
Now an official CM9 would be better, but until then, 7.2 will keep me from feeling like I need to buy a new tablet for a while.
RC 3 out
I came over from Flashlight. CM7.2 rc3 works very well. Only issue I have is some video resolutions act like there is no sync, just get wavy lines.
Looking at the changes, which can be found here:
https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_device_malata_smb_a1002
It does not look like much has changed from RC2 to RC3. (Which is a good thing, since by RC3, we should be getting pretty close to a release). Just some build stuff which probably does not effect the packaged ROM at all.
So I have not upgraded from RC2 to RC3.
I also get the diagonal lines in Youtube videos for some settings.
Only the fairly low resolutions seem to work at all.
I noticed i had this thing only happen when i flash JB roms (works perfect on ICS).
Whenever I'm playing music from any player (Apollo, Google Play, Music, Sony Player) it works just as it should but the weird thing is whenever i stop/pause any MP3 track it stops like it should BUT for only 2 seconds then continues to play for another second THEN it finally stop.
I tried flashing different JB roms (CM10, Codename X and such) and they all do that but ICS w/ Sense works just fine (last rom was KingCobra 1.5). Also tried rebooting, closing DSP manager, close all players then trying each separately without other players running, no dice.
Has anyone ever encounter this before? This is really the only problem, well a minor annoyance, and this hasn't happen with older JB builds from October. Is it the November builds? Someone throw me a bone (a metaphorical one) please and thank you in advance for reading my first thread.
AT&T One X Rooted, Unlocked on CM10 11/14 w/ TWRP.
Just an update:
The song actually continues to play in the background but in some kinda of muted mode.
It's like this: Music plays > I hit pause and it completely stops for 2 seconds > then it starts playings automatically but you only hear the first second of it > then it goes into some mute mode where it looks like it stopped but it's actually playing but no sound > you hit play and it gets unmuted but the timer of any player starts to move where YOU paused it, not where the part of the song actually is.
Well I'm kinda shocked I didn't get one response so far, not even a basic 'try rebooting/wipe/flash/check X settings/stop X process'.
I decided to go back to sense based roms for now and currently using ViperXl (which is the best sense based roms I've ever tried so far) and the problem is non-existence so maybe in a week or two after more JB roms get updated I'll give it another shot.
When I do decide to go back to JB I'll make a YouTube video of it so you can see first hand what I'm going through. Cheers.
I have also had this problem. Noticed it with RebelMOD and CyanogenMod. AOKP works correctly but has mms sending bug that I can't deal with. Didn't notice it when I had AOSP roms a while ago, maybe it happened when CM10 nightlies stopped for awhile because of the compiling issues. Sorry I don't have an answer but at least I know that I'm not crazy.
Same damn problem here on my EVO LTE. Sense with ICS is perfectly fine but CM10 has this issue.
I flashed 5.0 onto my Nexus 5 a while back and have been loving it. But there is a MAJOR issue I have encountered.
If, from the lock screen, i swipe to open the camera (I use Google's camera app) then swipe on the charms and select video and press record... i can almost always reproduce an immediate forced reboot it makes me very sad.
I have tried wiping the system cache... i'm not sure what else to do...
any advice?
bumping... been playing around with my N5 more and more and still getting the issue.
I notice that it happens in other camera apps that can take videos as well. Not just google's official camera app.
Also, it does not have to be launched from the lock screen for it to occur. sigh.
there have been a few times where i can get it to successfully record a video... but i can't reproduce it all the time. MOST of the time it crashes my entire phone
Same here. Noticed they pushing 5.01 out... Maybe a fix. I've had every Nexus and early software is allways buggy, IMO
thanks so much for replying. just glad it's not only my phone, you know?
I think I found a workaround until google fixes it. and they better.
if you open the camera and switch it to video mode but BEFORE pressing record, if you toggle the thunderbolt (light) on and off at least once (doesn't matter if you leave it on or on afterwards), then start recording it SHOULD work without rebooting... at least it has so far.
Dont have the issue on mine, i have the ElemantalX kernel though but i dont think that makes a difference

I'm certainly not suggesting the issue doesn't exist, but I cannot reproduce this on my stock 5.0 installation.
That being said, there are seemingly lots of Lollipop bugs that some people get and others simply do not... in my experience that'll probably make them a little more time-consuming to fix.
Well, a little good news... I hope?
I did a flash to 5.0.1 stock and i can't reproduce it anymore. videos record perfectly fine.
now let's give it a week or so of me dicking around with various apps and settings and see how that goes

That's interesting - they must have changed something about the camera then.
I wasn't having the issue you described but I did occasionally get "cannot connect to camera".. fingers crossed it's sorted :good:
