Hey guys, I'm usually just a lurker on these forums and read up on the latest developments but I've neglected my Optimus p500 after getting a Nexus 7 haha
This ISN'T a 'what is the best ROM' thread, but I'm basically wanting to know if there are any stable ICS or JB releases out for the p500 that are good enough to use as a daily driver?
I tried and tested a range of ROM for this phone before finally settling on Neko's GingerSnap a number of months ago as I found it to be the most stable and most responsive (excellent work, by the way mate!). I'm a bit bored with it now and wanting to try a newer build.
Any recommendations?
Cheers!
I think it is safe to say that ICS is pretty much bugfree. I am not sure whether video recording and high quality playback has been fixed in JB, but I'm going to assume that they are still there. And the battery life on ICS is much better than that of JB. So if you want a stable daily driver:

that's what I would go with
completely agree with sweetnsour
and if u want a highly customized and stable ics rom try aokp

Awesome!! Thanks very much guys. I might give AOKP a go and see how I get on.
Downloading now
there is a thanks button if u can press it:silly:
Thought I'd give you guys an update. Been running AOKP for a day or so now and I'm really liking it. Nice and responsives, no restarting bugs like the first ICS ROMs that came out. I generally just use my phone for calling and texting now I have a tablet, so haven't tried games etc but so far so good.
Thanks again guys!

So i've been doing some research about cyanogen mod 9 for my HTC desire and have read all the people's comments about how good it is but an still not convinced. I mean that i've heared that cyanogenmod 9 does not make your camera work. Thats a major set back isn't it? Also there are some other serious probs e.g WiFi, Google play apps e.t.c. So is cyanogenmod 9 worth all these troubles? Whats the up side?
The main benefit, is it gives people like me who own devices (samsung infuse) that dont get official ICS updates. It runs great on my device, and i prefer it to any other rom ive tried, but i use my sixaxis controller with my phone, and due to bluetooth not working im using CM7 til that issue is resolved. but in all honesty CM9 is the best custom Rom available for my device at least it you dont need bluetooth. it runs great and my battery life is great.
what about andriod apps. do apps run on such a firmware.
(espicially games)??
They certainly do! It's just like a normal ICS device - there's the Play Market and you can install any app suited for ICS
BTW, CM9 rocks, AOKP even more!
I Cyanogen 9 with my HTC ONE X. I also have problems with the Bluetooth works partially. After each ROM is different. Much like me, flash your phone to find THE right ROM.
Cyanogenmod 9 is brilliant if it's stable build. From your description they're still working on it,so I'd urge you be patient and try cyanogenmod 7 instead.
Or,check out MIUI4 rom if you're still interested in ICS

The matureness of CM9 depends also on the device you own, and the available or unavailable drivers - in your case it seems there are problems with the cam.
I suggest to get CM7.2 instead, till those problems are fixed on your device.
CM9 will always run as It provides you the best latest features from google.
Only "problem" I've experienced on CM9 on my Epic 4g is that Dead Space is no longer recognized as an authorized device. Other than that, I enjoy using it over GB. It feels like the interface makes "more sense," but of course that's just a personal preference.
I not a huge fan of CM9 ...as i ahev flashed in S2 couple of times ...but still the force close issue persist with the nightly builds(ICS)...!!
I can't wait for a stable build for the GS3! (yet I have to )

cm9
Using experimental cm9 build on Atrix. It's worth it, but it comes with sacrifices.
My phone is much much faster, smoother, and prettier. But at the cost of stability with the camcorder, and some obscure cm7 features.
Hello, I finally got my wife to agree to let me root and put a custom rom on her infuse, currently running froyo. I just rooted it last night and was looking around for some stable ICS roms. I found lots of discussions about which roms were best but had a somewhat more difficult time finding the links to said roms. And stability is a must here as she knows absolutely nothing about messing around with phones. Also GPS and Bluetooth are absolute musts as well. She finally agreed to let me do this after seeing galaxy s2 running CM9. So I was kinda leaning towards a cm9 rom, a lot of the ones I saw though listed Bluetooth problems so I was wondering whose cm9 would be best for what I'm looking for here. That being said I am open to all stable ICS roms, not just tunnel visioned on cm9. So, if you all give me some good stable ICS rom, and their links, I would be very grateful. Thanks!

Just my 2 cents worth.......been d/l ROMs since GB........the JB ROMs that are out now are more stable than ICS.
Edit: biggest problem is, most of the Devs have moved on to JB.
ICS and jb both have camera recording problems... so jwep that in mind, jb has a slow but working GPS

In addition to the above comments. I would also caution you about future wife beatings and crazy ass tandrums if your giving a rooted phone to her. I know your asking about ICS, and some are suggesting Jellybean, however the best thing you can do for her is to put a rooted Gingerbread ROM like the following and just yank out whatever junk you don't want and keep it running smoother then stock!:
- Infused 2.2.3 (Extremely stable ROM that i used as my daily driver without incident for almost a year! Disadvantage is that it is no longer being developed. But really, it doesn't need anything else done to it.. absolutely everything just works!)
- Aeon (This is one of the newer Gingerbread ROM's that is still being updated and mantained. Also a very stable ROM where everything just works. The downside in my opinion is the Themeinig that is build into the ROM. Great for most, but not for everyone.)
Both of the above are excellent choices for a wife! And they are both built off of stock firmware so everything works.
Believe me, i would normally never reccomend someone go back to Gingerbread, but as she is coming from Froyo she will notice a big improvement. Also, from one man to the next. I can tell you, my bigest mistake was replacing my wifes crack berry with my older rooted X10. It was great for me, but for her she just wants things to work. The second something doesn't work, she turns into the hulk! I absolutely love to tinker and i'm never done messing with my phone, but don't assume your wife will appreciate the challenges as much as you would! I ended up just putting it back to bone stock and gave it to her with the understanding that she was not to complain to me anymore! LOL
Oh one last thing.. the saying really is true.. "A happy Wife is a happy Life!" LOL
Does that have any impact on the devs working on CM10 for our device? Or is that just cool, some other devices have stable CM10.
Seriously?(sarcasm)
Different devices have different source code which wouldn't really help our devs get a stable build if CM10. Right now our device doesn't have stability for jb, but I would expect it in the future. If we are to get a really good stable job ROM, we need our source code to be released.
If I helped you, push the thanks button for goodness sakes!
I've got ZERO expectations on us getting a fully working CM10 or later variant for our phone. I've resigned myself to the fact that CM7.2 is about as good as my phone is ever going to get.
I think we eventually will get it but at this point I don't expect anything.
Hopefully Tonyp will port the Stock ICS ROM from the O2x and Arcee will finally give us CM10. Rumor has it he is just trying to make it stable before bringing it here, but for all we know he's probably having trouble porting it over.
Anyone know how much smoother and faster CM10 is with the actual HW accelerations? I'm on the Paranoid Jellybean Hackfest and I honestly don't see much difference in fluidity than on my Galaxy S Blaze Running a full functioning CM10. We only have a few bugs, and not even the worst ones like random reboots or audio noise which some are experiencing with a full ROM.

Pretty much what he said. Or we'll get it mid next year. I'm done expecting that we'll get it. This phone is still awesome with cm7, and I'll probably have moved on to a different device anyway next year ;p.
Hi all, I'm hoping to tap into your superior knowledge here...
I'm currently running the AEON ROM and I am pleased with it so far, it's stable and responsive, but I was hoping for better battery life.
Anyway, now that I've been bitten by the custom ROM bug, I'm thinking of trying a JB ROM, but I have some questions.
I'm looking for a stable(obviously) ROM with working bluetooth and gps and good battery life. The gps is a must as my gf and I are into geocaching, but the BT won't be a deal breaker. Is JB really worth flashing?
Here's some ROM's I'm looking at:
Paranoid Android -- but I don't believe gps works with this ROM, I can't really determine that from the thread
Unofficial CM10
LiquidSmooth
SlimBean
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. And one last question: Is it necessary to flash ICS before going to a JB ROM or can I flash directly? I've searched for an answer to this and I can't seem to find a consensus.
Thanks ahead of time
P.S. If you think I'll be better off staying with a GB rom, I'll take recommendations for an AEON alternative.
M
All the JB roms you mentioned are excellent, it always comes down to personal preference.
Perhaps more important is to be sure you understand the process of going from GB to JB. There are many threads on this subject and it will be more than worth your time to read up before jumping.
ok i have a simple question, even there is indeed, bazillion TL;DR posts, need just short sum up.
My Sensation is close to end of its warranty time and even i already switched to SGS3 iam playing with the idea of finally rooting it. My question is simple and i would appreciate as simple answer as the question is.
Is there a JB ROM which is working as intended (w/o disabling the voice search fully working GoogleNOW, all past bugs free, like non woking or broken wifi, BT, whatever, battery problems or any other possible bugs)?
Thanks in advance for reply
I think Bruce's CM10 is pretty much bug free.
Yes, would recommend Bruce's CM10 (the build in my signature is very stable)
I recommend Paranoid Android by Dragun Korr. I've had great a experience with this rom. I use it as my daily rom. It's stable, smooth, fast and plenty of customization! The development is great and fast! It's proven in my experience to be the most stable jelly bean rom I've ever tried! Do try out a few jelly bean roms and see what you think personally. I think it's always best to try for yourself several different roms, if you don't, your really selling yourself short. It's better to try out a few or you won't ever know what's available. There could be something out there that you would really like but if you don't experiment you will never know. So my suggestion is try out a few and see what you think! Best wishes and I do Hope you take my advice! Have fun, experimenting is the best way to find what suits you best!
