[Q] Now that there is stable version of CM10 out for other devices... - T-Mobile LG G2x

Does that have any impact on the devs working on CM10 for our device? Or is that just cool, some other devices have stable CM10.

Seriously?(sarcasm)

Different devices have different source code which wouldn't really help our devs get a stable build if CM10. Right now our device doesn't have stability for jb, but I would expect it in the future. If we are to get a really good stable job ROM, we need our source code to be released.
If I helped you, push the thanks button for goodness sakes!

I've got ZERO expectations on us getting a fully working CM10 or later variant for our phone. I've resigned myself to the fact that CM7.2 is about as good as my phone is ever going to get.

I think we eventually will get it but at this point I don't expect anything.
Hopefully Tonyp will port the Stock ICS ROM from the O2x and Arcee will finally give us CM10. Rumor has it he is just trying to make it stable before bringing it here, but for all we know he's probably having trouble porting it over.
Anyone know how much smoother and faster CM10 is with the actual HW accelerations? I'm on the Paranoid Jellybean Hackfest and I honestly don't see much difference in fluidity than on my Galaxy S Blaze Running a full functioning CM10. We only have a few bugs, and not even the worst ones like random reboots or audio noise which some are experiencing with a full ROM.

Pretty much what he said. Or we'll get it mid next year. I'm done expecting that we'll get it. This phone is still awesome with cm7, and I'll probably have moved on to a different device anyway next year ;p.

Android 2.3

I realise that the alpha/beta of ICS has been released but why is it there is no development on 2.3 roms at the moment. Sure people want to have the best ICS rom but seriously I am sick of the constant crashes and "this application isnt supported by your device" on the Android market.
Hopefully the developers focus on the actual stable roms and not silly pre-releases.

To each his own! I completely disagree, I don't understand what you're asking for, 2.3 roms seem good to go and stable as it is. What else do you want done? Also, I for one don't consider it "silly" pre-releases. Even though ICS has yet to be complete it's far better than what GB has been for me. ICS is also the one that needs some work on, hence the crashes and stuff (I don't experience any at all). If GB is working without crashes and is STABLE, what updates are you looking for? If it's working great, then you don't need to update! Although there are some apps which are yet compatible, it doesn't affect users such as myself.

Considering I haven't experienced a single crash on Baad's InsertCoin ICS ROM, I have no idea what you are talking about. I suppose one could also question why the Windows Mobile and Palm ROM development forums haven't seen much action...what more is there to do to working stable ROMs? Or better yet, why bother

Speaking for myself, I'd like a stable (i.e. not alpha) release of CM7 for my new Sensation. I agree with the OP, if the CM devs are blocked waiting for HTC to release ICS, why not polish off a stable CM7 release? I'm in the process of pulling down source to see if I can help. I'm an embedded Linux developer during the day, but being new to android development and only having one phone (and a wife and kids), I'm not expecting anything but getting my feet wet by the time ICS comes out on this phone. I'm grateful that CM exists, just wish there was a non-alpha mod for my new phone.

Well I guess they did not want to waste time polishing CM7, where in 1-2 months time, everyone will be expecting them to release CM9 for sensation. Let's say they release a super stable CM7 by the end of Feb, people will be using it for only a month before switching to CM9. Might as well wait for ICS.

Speaking for myself again, I'd prefer to use a solid CM7 until CM9 is just as stable. It was more than 1-2 months before CM7 stable enough to put on my MT4G. But I understand it is the culture here to regularly flash new stuff, even if there's no good reason to, and I'm not knocking that, I've done it too. Which is why I'm either returning this phone for a SGS2, or getting to work on my own (wow, 4.5 hours to sync the CM GB repo!).

While waiting for the CM code to sync, I went over to htcdev.com and clicked their comments link to "Tell HTCdev what YOU want". I explained that I would like full source code for my HTC phone like LG and Samsung provide for their phones (at least the diffs from the open source code). I didn't really expect to get it, and was not surprised when the reply was no - they only release the Linux kernel source because they're bound to by license. But it made me realize that I had purchased the wrong phone. So I returned it. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the SGS2 is quite functional and performant out of the box, and the source easily available from Samsung. So long HTC...

CM9 Development

So i noticed that Tbolt is getting the CM9 support. Any devs out there plan to make a CM9/AOSP or anything else build? Id love to know! Im excited for Liquid SMooth ICS rom.

Well I'll believe it when I see it I haven't seen anything else from CM showing support for Mecha at all there isn't even a forum for it. So far none of the developers aren't going to make a new RIL so until there is a leak or an update we won't see fully working ICS in any fashion. TwistedUmbrella and ProTekk have both made great progress in getting things work but RIL won't work until HTC releases the goods. So who knows maybe once that happens CM9 will get official and release a nightly and make a forum idk.
Workshed has been the CM guru since I've had a smartphone. When the ril is cracked or leaked for ics I'd expect an unofficial cm or official

Well Twisted Playground uses parts from CM9 I think. To be honest I could careless about CM9 between AOKP and Twisted Playground we got the goods.

+1 Twisted has an awesome base for his ROM, and I personally appreciate him waiting for an official ril. I personally want a working stable ics ROM, not another unofficial cm with half assed data that gets no updates like 99% of thunderbolt ROMs.

There was not a forum for a lot of phones they had committed to yet (like the Galaxy Nexus) last time I looked.
I would not take that as a negative sign. A forum will come when the kernel comes I am sure.
the Galaxy Nexus has a forum. But yeah idk ever since the whole CM7 thing I kinda gave up on CM.
Well, either way you look at it Cyanogenmod is such a unique ROM, made such a huge splash that parts of it were implemented in vanilla AOSP in 4.0 by Google. That's huge. And I can't say I know of any other ROM that's done something like that. So having official CM9 support is a massive plus, and I know exactly which ROM I'll be running when it happens
You guys really need to go to Rootzwiki. The development for the TB is happening there, there's already a CM9 port and two AOSP 4.0.4 ports with all but the RIL working.
All those are posted here except liquid ICS I think. But the only one that has actually been updated and released for quite a while is Twisted Playground and that is here and on Rootzwiki. I would say currently Twisted Playground has the most working. Once RIL is released in one form or another ProTekk will update AOKP idk if Liquid will update his or not from what I could see it didn't really differ a whole lot from AOKP. So we just have to wait once there is a working RIL we'll get more updated working roms.
Tbolt channel of Rootwiki and Androidcentral do seem to be a bit more populated then xda. Either way, dont care where it happens, il be checking all 3 as much as posible for CM9 and / or ICS ROMS
Rootzwiki is better for somethings but lately Twisted Playgrounds thread on XDA has been better.
Yeah I bounce back and forth between the two.
I don't know what it is, but I feel like XDA is my home and always will be.... I miss when it was THE centralized location for Android development

Not coming for G2x I guess, not until LG/Nvidia release something.
All we can do is hope an official ICS release is made for the G2X or the O2X so we actually get hardware acceleration...
i know everyone wants an official ICS release but there are plenty of ICS roms for our phone, whats so special about a CM9 one? they all have the same drawbacks so really its just a matter of preference. and since cyanogen makes roms for just about every single phone out there he cant take the time to customize one for our phone, thats why i think the devs here make better roms

Aren't you the beta tester for someone on these threads? You should learn a little more before saying things that are incorrect to the public... Yes our group for the G2X is doing some awesome work, but none of those are actually usable for a lot of us. I use my phone actually, alot and ICS is no where near usable, I don't even record or anything but even taking a picture and exiting out the app a certain way will cause for a reboot to be able to take a picture again... and like monkee said, Ricardo (Cm_arcee) is the CM dev for our phone and almost if not all LG line of phones. If CM team were to release an official RC it would be with fully working everything at least. That's why we were excited with it, compared to what is available now.

totally forgot about arcee and as far as all the roms here using his fixes i dont see that as completely true as there are some roms here that are using AOSP pure so not using CM at all. unless (and this may be possible) his fixes are getting added into the code upstream then in a round about way those using AOSP would be using his fixes

and yeah im a beta tester for Genesis and what did i say that was incorrect? and just because im a beta tester does not necessarily mean i know everything there is to know about android, but i know enough. i didnt mean to offend CM or people who love CM, but ive used it as well and really it just comes down to preferences. i truly dont think that CM is the be-all-end-all of G2x roms...thats all im saying
and why would anyone think that when CM releases a rom that it will be error free or have all features? i've been using 7.2 and for a few releases bluetooth call audio isnt working and that is the case with 7.2 stable, so your argument about having everything working doesnt hold any water
Don't mean to sound like I'm bashing you but I don't mind spreading the knowledge I've gained over the years of basic rooting and android...
None of what you see except for the OTA stock based roms are doable without the CM team... EB AOSP included. It says on their 1st page "A BIG THANKS TO CM-TEAM for they're amazing work without these guys hard work and great features none of this would be possible for me..." it's just how it is, Steve (cyanogen) Kondik has been at it since the G1 days... so CM is pretty much the "be-all-end-all of G2x roms" if your phone didn't function well on stock... every phone is like that, not just the G2X, other wise we will have stock based roms with tweaks here and there but making the lock screens and coding them out to where they function like they do is mostly and all Cyanogen... This is what I've gathered over the years if I'm wrong about some of it, I wouldn't surprised... Since I've been rooting and everything for the past 4 years, I should be a Dev by now but I'm too lazy for that plus work, school and a social life, I don't have the patience either haha.
7.2 stable is not stable but it is about 100X more stable then CM9 in my eyes and lots others, some people have no issue with it being the way it is but I'm super picky and 23 years old, I go out a lot and answer lots of calls, need stable battery those sorts of things, ICS is none of what I need or want on the G2X... also why I'm switching phones shortly.
again I didn't mean to attack, just opinionated I guess lol.
no worries, i didnt take it that way, im pretty opinionated as well
and you have great points about how you use your phone and what you need from it. i guess thats where i need to make a mental note that not everyone here uses their phone the same way and want different things from it and the software that runs on it
and i did not in anyway mean for my posts to sound like i was bashing cyanogen (dont know him well enough to call him Steve LOL). what they do is incredible and they (and all the other devs here) make flashing our phones fun (at least for me)
i think this can be let go, no harm no foul?

I told everyone that Ricardo promises to port it as soon as he gets his hands on it. I had a long conversation with a friend last night about these fauxm9 ROMs. If you read my interview with Ricardo you would know he totally regrets his decision to release this crap. Source has even been pulled from cm. Our "CM9" source is a pile of app breaking hacks. I have the upmost respect for our devs, it is not their fault, but they have put soooo many band aids on this turd that I've noticed stability diminishing with each release. Too many patches, no real fixes. If anyone has noticed, ics releases have slowed dramatically. On the other hand, CM7 is on the brink of perfection, yet nobody's doing any kangs. What's left on CM7, blue tooth? I'm sure if devs worked on it they could figure it out in no time. Anyway, that's my opinion, and it's formed from pretty good sources.

Right! I love ICS and CM9, but fact is, these latest kangs of kanged kangs are soooo unstable it's comical they're being released. Focus should turn to CM7 until cm or lg releases something for ICS. Trust me, LG has to do ics for the O2x, it will be here soon enough.

Stable ICS/JB ROMs?

Hey.
I've been on jb roms since they came out for desire s and have been using ics before that. However... ics roms have been in beta stage since ever and have not really advanced in terms of having stable or even working main functions. Well this is because of the fact that our devs did not have kernel sources. There have been words that kernel source release would solve all our major issues like front cam and others. But kernel source has been released and I'm seeing a decline in our forum's traffic and in development. I know i's partly due to many original members leaving. But I also hear that devs are facing difficulty in making the kernel. So I want to ask, will we ever have fully stable ics or jb roms or is this not a possibility?

Sorry for the tone, but this is a pretty pointless thread (IMO) there are already several others in a similar vein that exist and as we don't have a time machine and can't see into the future....although speculation appears to what the majority of threads contains these days....
This is now unfortunately an old device and as you rightly pointed out lots of the forums previous users have moved on to bigger and better new devices so the forum traffic was always bound to fall. We still have several devs that are developing for this device so don't do them a dis-service by suggesting that no progress has been made. Just look at the CM, AKOP and JB source build threads for examples.....
Since the release of the kernel source - progress has certainly been made, just look at the tweaked kernel we can now use, in which we are now able to UV & OC not to mention that the wifi tether issues are now resolved... everything takes time, so be patient....or learn to code yourself and help out!

I fully understand the devs' hard work and their dedications. That's not what this thread is asking. It seems to many devs that they are still having a hard time adjusting ics and jb to our device even upon kernel source release. Despite the prior speculation that things would be much easier with kernel source. So I was bringing the problem forth to see if it is possible for us to have stable ics or jb roms. No need to be all defensive. Just want an objective discussion
Sent from my Desire S using xda app-developers app
custom roms are rearly FULLY stable. there is always a little bug here and there. but since the release of the official ICS and the latest kernel source ICS roms are getting mature at last. and if you're still not satisfied, wait a month more. or flash the official ICS and have a really stable rom now.
JB is another story. there is no native kernel source for it and i doubt there will ever be.
I totally see where you are both coming from. The kernel source was released over a fortnight ago.
I agree with Ben, in respect we should appreciate what the current devs have given us etc etc,
But I also agree with skim, I am quite surprised that with the kernel source released, AOSP still hasn't got a functional kernel based on our Saga build. (Andromadus is using a kernel port)
I was hoping for at least ICS AOSP to be working by now, but I guess that is not the case
The forums have certainly gone a lot quieter now, and I suspect by the end of the year, even more of us will leave
But back to the original point, I wish that things could pick up like they were this time last year, but sadly that will never happen.
I have no intentions of insulting any devs, I truly appreciate the work they have provided us, and I haven't contributed anything particularly useful, so I am in no position to do so, but this is just how I feel.
When I look through forums like the S2, I envy the development... even after a year, ROMs are still on full scale, with so many choices to choose from...

Unfortunately Oly I don't think that you can compare the DS to the SGS2. We unfortunately were never a main stream device (like the SGS2), we sadly missed the boat, with the Sensation coming out shortly after our release, I reckon that the focus went from DHD to Sensation and the limelight never really shone on us long enough to get a main stream following.
The Samsung onslaught appears to unbeatable currently sadly even the One series hasn't really made a dent.
We must all accept the inevitable that our device (Desire S) is by fact outdated with the phase of how fast mobile technology comes. That said, sooner or later, our thread will surely die.
It is with great appreciation that our devs are prolonging the inevitable. Most will surely be having new devices comes these coming months. I too will be leaving the scene as a new device is surely coming at hand in two months time.
Everything in our life changes. One must be oblige to flow with it. If not, one will be left alone and at lost.
P.S.
For an answer for the OP. THERE WILL BE a stable JB/ICS ROM as long as a dev will be willing to still work on it. If not, then THERE WILL BE NOT.
Long answer short: we will never know unless there will be one.
Moral of this post: learn to accept the truth that you have to move on to a new device if you really want to have a stable up-to-date ROM, even past JB.

I think custom roms have advantages, but it's not easy for the devs to make them perfect.
If i compare the stock ROM of x10mini/pro with custom cm6/7 ROM, the stock ROM sucks...

I recently flashed MIUI 2.8.17 and its been a joyful ride! It is very very stable. I had to reboot only once so far and that is an intermittent bug. BT/WiFi/Tethering/Camera etc. etc. everything works! (hard to find that in an ICS ROM)! Its my daily ROM now.. :good:
Fallout 5.0
I got myself S-off and rooted 2 days ago.
The first custom rom Ive tried is Fallout 5.0. Only one day into my test and it's very stable and fast compared to stock gingerbread.
I'm very pleased with it so far :good:

My Gingerbread stock rom experience made me root my phone. I kept getting the white screen with the green HTC logo and no matter what I did it always came back. I have now tried out about 5 or 6 custom roms and this issue no longer appears. Of course there are other issues, some of which are serious. But there are ROMs which are in general more than good enough for day to day usage. I currently use ICE-DSv5 but for example Fallout v4.4 is stable (v5 is not stable for me but it is for a lot of people).
If you are interested you can look at my other thread here called "My First Rooted Phone" for an overview of my experiences so far.
Blindbean and Codename are great JB roms, not fully stable, but good to work with.
Yes. I flash every recent roms so I know how they are. I started this thread to get an idea of if it is possible to have a stable rom. The devs have been struggling with major bugs since early this year and we're still stuck with the same bugs we had prior to the release of the kernel sources. I do know it is a difficult process. But wanted an answer from a dev. Is it possible for us to have working front cam, proper video playback, etc. ? This isn't complaining btw just wanted an answer other than "be patient. Be thankful. It's good enough"

if you want stable flash rooted stock. it has everything you mentioned. combine it with tweaked kernel and you have even more...

[Q] Stable ICS Rom Links please!

Hello, I finally got my wife to agree to let me root and put a custom rom on her infuse, currently running froyo. I just rooted it last night and was looking around for some stable ICS roms. I found lots of discussions about which roms were best but had a somewhat more difficult time finding the links to said roms. And stability is a must here as she knows absolutely nothing about messing around with phones. Also GPS and Bluetooth are absolute musts as well. She finally agreed to let me do this after seeing galaxy s2 running CM9. So I was kinda leaning towards a cm9 rom, a lot of the ones I saw though listed Bluetooth problems so I was wondering whose cm9 would be best for what I'm looking for here. That being said I am open to all stable ICS roms, not just tunnel visioned on cm9. So, if you all give me some good stable ICS rom, and their links, I would be very grateful. Thanks!

Have a look at these. They should have everything you are looking for.

Just my 2 cents worth.......been d/l ROMs since GB........the JB ROMs that are out now are more stable than ICS.
Edit: biggest problem is, most of the Devs have moved on to JB.
ICS and jb both have camera recording problems... so jwep that in mind, jb has a slow but working GPS

In addition to the above comments. I would also caution you about future wife beatings and crazy ass tandrums if your giving a rooted phone to her. I know your asking about ICS, and some are suggesting Jellybean, however the best thing you can do for her is to put a rooted Gingerbread ROM like the following and just yank out whatever junk you don't want and keep it running smoother then stock!:
- Infused 2.2.3 (Extremely stable ROM that i used as my daily driver without incident for almost a year! Disadvantage is that it is no longer being developed. But really, it doesn't need anything else done to it.. absolutely everything just works!)
- Aeon (This is one of the newer Gingerbread ROM's that is still being updated and mantained. Also a very stable ROM where everything just works. The downside in my opinion is the Themeinig that is build into the ROM. Great for most, but not for everyone.)
Both of the above are excellent choices for a wife! And they are both built off of stock firmware so everything works.
Believe me, i would normally never reccomend someone go back to Gingerbread, but as she is coming from Froyo she will notice a big improvement. Also, from one man to the next. I can tell you, my bigest mistake was replacing my wifes crack berry with my older rooted X10. It was great for me, but for her she just wants things to work. The second something doesn't work, she turns into the hulk! I absolutely love to tinker and i'm never done messing with my phone, but don't assume your wife will appreciate the challenges as much as you would! I ended up just putting it back to bone stock and gave it to her with the understanding that she was not to complain to me anymore! LOL
Oh one last thing.. the saying really is true.. "A happy Wife is a happy Life!" LOL
