[Q] Which texting app would you recommend for the SIII? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Whether it's stock, free, or paid, what text message app do you recommend? I'm tired of losing my messages after I change roms..

Download super backup. You can backup your texts and call logs between flashing. I use the stock app

Do you use this alongside titanium backup?

SMS backup & store is good, but slow at restoring. I think Handcent subscription portion has a backup service.

That one works good too, but is slow. However super backup saves to your SD card so if the phone is destroyed they're gone. I use both. Super backup for flashing and SMS backup to keep a more secure backup in case my phone is destroyed.

Titanium can backup sms and other user data. They are in green.
•[CONTACTS/CALLS] Contacts Storage 2.2 - this stores Call History
•[SMS/MMS/APN] Dialer Storage 2.2 - this stores SMS/Text Messages
•[BOOKMARKS] Internet 2.2 - this stores the brower's settings and bookmarks
Pulled this info from here.

Not sure of MMS messages since they are downloaded to the SD card.
I also recommend SMS Backup +
I recommend (and develop) http://www.bloove.com
I use both SMS Backup + and Go SMS. Go SMS backs up and restores SMS messages on the phone and SMS Backup + backs them up to my gmail account.

I've always used SMS Backup & Restore from the market, never had a problem with it and it's quick, even when you have 5,000+ texts to backup/restore.

I use this app for my daughter's phone. I don't care if mine get erased. For the number of her texts to restore, it takes quite a while for the phone to be usable because it takes a while for the message database to stabilize. But, it works.
I use SMS Backup +.

Automatically backup SMS, MMS and call log entries using a separate label in Gmail / Google Calendar. It is also possible to restore SMS and call log entries back to the phone (MMS not supported yet).

You can configure it to backup automatically, once an hour, once a day, etc. I set it for once a day so it doesn't tax my battery usage all the time.
It backs up to a free online account.

I've been using this one also for over a year. I love how it backs up to my Gmail so that 1) I never lose my texts and 2) I can search through them in Gmail if I need to. It works great to restore and I haven't ever lost any when switching between roms or different phones. It also backs up my phone call log to Gmail.

I back my dialer storage up via TiBu, but it's only safe if you're returning to the same base or at least same android version. It backs up SMS/MMS and everything. I however use SMS Backup/Restore for everything else.

[Q] SMS backup restore doesn't work

Hey everyone so I've been using 4.1.2 roms for quite sometime but visiting various 4.2.1 roms once in a while. But after finding my perfect ROM to switch over I want to switch over my messages too, but so far no apps I use work. Is there a work around? I tried SMS backup and restore, saves XML files to your SD, and I tried SMS backup, which saves your messages to your gmail. Both after restoring your messages stop at the loading conversations in any messaging app. Is there anyway to transfer my 9000+ messages? Thanks
Go SMS pro has cloud back up. I think it's $5 for the feature, but I can't imagine it wouldn't restore to a new ROM? Why do you wanna hold onto 9k texts? Doesn't it bring your phone to a crawl?

It could be, but now I am facing the issue of restoring 8000+ SMS that I backed up with My Backup Pro and I can't lost.
By the way, I don't personally give a **** about SMS restoring, but this phone is the one of my girlfriend!

Right on, I hear u
... But having ur phone with that many SMS on its SMS app will slow ur phone soooo much since it has to read them.
That is why I prefer Google voice Apk. It will never slow down my phone but I know where to find them when I need them. And I can access them on any PC.
I use since I was a flash-aholic and I kept missing SMS and voicemails. So now its just a life saver.
I wish u luck on ur task.
Take care

Solved for me!
I discovered it is only a matter of time, BIG time.
I let the message list window open (the one that couldn't load any messages) and I went to bed.
After several hours everything was in place. Fortunately!
Hope this is going to be useful to others psychotics as well.
Cheers
Thanks, im goign to test that solution, i did the same, a backup of a LOT of sms, and when i did a Helium restore, the sms app is just showing "loading conversations".
I will update this, when i tested it.
UPDATE:
Indeed you just have to wait, until all the sms load correctly. In my case (SG3) it took me just 1 hour.

Backup & restore - How to restore faster while changing ROMs

I have been using My Backup Pro (Paid Version) for backing up Apps+data, SMS, Call log etc.
I have about 6000 SMS. When I take back up, it backs up in 30 secs. But after flashing a ROM when I restore all 6000 SMS, it takes about 1.5 hours. This is really frustrating for me. Restore of Apps+data is fine, takes about 4-5 mins.
What is the best way to restore SMS faster? Any other app or any suggestions for restoring all SMS is 5 mins or so?

Titanium backup restores my sms (9781 messages today) more or less 1.0 - 1.5 hours.
And i always set my phone to airplane mode whenever i restore sms because all incoming messages within that restore period will be deleted.

And it does non-destructive restore, can check for duplicates, and allows scheduled backups to dropbox (with network extension).
And it works across android versions becuase it creates simple XML file

Same problem I had. I have 6.5k sms and it took nearly 1 and a half hour to restore them using go backup yesterday only as I flashed a new ROM.
I once restored 4k SMS using SMS Backup and Restore and I felt it was fast than go backup.
Will try titanium backup as well.
Thanks
Thanks. I will try SMS back up &restore.
I downloaded titanium backup, but couldn't find SMS backup option. There is one to export SMS to XML. But that's for the paid app.

I tried SMS Backup & Restore today. I restored 5400 SMS. It was really fast. It took about 30 mins. But at the end it said failed to restore 75 SMS. This never happened with My Backup Pro. So I guess this is not a reliable software. 75 may not be a big deal, but there is no other information why it did not restore them.
So I guess, the only reliable way to get all SMS restored is to wait for 1.5 hours. Faster is not always accurate/reliable.
That's wierd, never failed for me. Also 30 minutes is way to long for 5K messages with SMS Backup & Restore.

You said titanium back up takes about 1.5 hours for 9000+ SMS restore. Now that means for 5000+ SMS it would take more than 30 mins. Did I miss anything?
Is there a way I can test SMS back up & restore in the free version of titanium backup before I buy the paid version?

Question: How to save text messages?

I am S-off and running my phone stock with root.
I've never had luck with backing up the Messages app so I'm asking for help.
I use Titanium Back up Pro. I also use Hangouts for SMS. Do I just backup the Messages app and hangouts? And then restore with data if I choose to run another stock ROM?
I'm thinking about Clean ROM or Bone stock. I like Sense and I like the stock feel. The only thing I really want is for my music that's on my SD card to play...
Anyway, anyone have luck keeping texts backed up? I need it for work...usually I've never cared about saving texts.
Thank you.

I use SMS Backup & Restore for my backups. I usually don't restore any of them, just keep a running archive.
I came from an AOSP room to the M8. On my old phone I started using SMS backup/restore but soon realized it wasn't saving my MMSs. Since then I started using restoring with the titanium SMS/MMS backup xml it was already making and it works just fine for me. Even from AOSP to stock Sense to Viper.

Sms backup restore does exactly that. It backs up and restores your SMSs (text only messages). The titanium sms/mms xml option also restores my mms messages which conserves any pictures that were "texted" (read, mms) to me as well.
