Titanium can backup sms and other user data. They are in green.
•[CONTACTS/CALLS] Contacts Storage 2.2 - this stores Call History
•[SMS/MMS/APN] Dialer Storage 2.2 - this stores SMS/Text Messages
•[BOOKMARKS] Internet 2.2 - this stores the brower's settings and bookmarks
Pulled this info from here.
http://www.incredibleforum.com/forum/htc-incredible-hacks/7892-titanium-backup-how.html
Not sure of MMS messages since they are downloaded to the SD card.

I also recommend SMS Backup +

I recommend (and develop) http://www.bloove.com

I use both SMS Backup + and Go SMS. Go SMS backs up and restores SMS messages on the phone and SMS Backup + backs them up to my gmail account.

Is there any trick to make the Call Log restore works?
I've tried to restore from my Samsung Galaxy S2 running Android 2.3.6 to the new 4.0.3... And the Contacts app crash! Force Close!

Sms backup+, my backup are the ones I have used no problems with either.

[Q] How to migrate data to Nexus S

I need help
How I move my data in HTC Hero(GSM) such as SMS MMS Calendar to Nexus S
Calendar is synced in the cloud with google. but as far as SMS and MMS their are apps on the market that will do that for you.
App Data like game saves and app settings will be lost unless your hero is rooted and u can pull it off the /data/ portion

There aren't really any good apps for restoring MMS from what I've searched. Most of the good ones say "MMS not supported" or "MMS restore not supported." Your best bet is using a root application such as Titanium Backup to restore all the MMS.
If you need to store sms in a safe place and don't need it on your phone you should hit the market and get sms backup. It wil take all your sms and store them to your gmail account in the event you need them.
Thank for SMS backup application name,I already backup&restore it.
I have one more question
which application that use for backup other data such as calendar, contact.
I want to use backup application, because I have some problem with calendar sync.
For this problem please look in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914930

Ghat should backup to gmail. Contacts should also backup to gmail/google. As for sms/mms gosms has a backup and restore function built in.
What this guy said ^^^^. You should back up to google for contacts. As far as text I just use the stock and back it up with "SMS Backup and Restore". Great app saves sms to sd card at selected intervals.
for contacts you can also use the export to SDcard option available in the stock app

I've always used SMS Backup & Restore from the market, never had a problem with it and it's quick, even when you have 5,000+ texts to backup/restore.

I use this app for my daughter's phone. I don't care if mine get erased. For the number of her texts to restore, it takes quite a while for the phone to be usable because it takes a while for the message database to stabilize. But, it works.
I use SMS Backup +.

Works great.
Automatically backup SMS, MMS and call log entries using a separate label in Gmail / Google Calendar. It is also possible to restore SMS and call log entries back to the phone (MMS not supported yet).

You can configure it to backup automatically, once an hour, once a day, etc. I set it for once a day so it doesn't tax my battery usage all the time.
It backs up to a free online account.

I've been using this one also for over a year. I love how it backs up to my Gmail so that 1) I never lose my texts and 2) I can search through them in Gmail if I need to. It works great to restore and I haven't ever lost any when switching between roms or different phones. It also backs up my phone call log to Gmail.

I back my dialer storage up via TiBu, but it's only safe if you're returning to the same base or at least same android version. It backs up SMS/MMS and everything. I however use SMS Backup/Restore for everything else.

[Q] Transfer MMS + SMS to the N5?

Hi all,
Like many others, got my shiny new N5 today and now wondering how to get my SMS + MMS over from my S4 to the N5. Previously I'd used backup to gmail which worked fine, but now all SMS/MMS are in hangouts it doesn't seem to restore properly. Does anyone have any way to restore both SMS + MMS over to their N5?
Thanks

No, not rooted at all yet, may have to if it means I can use the old messaging app instead of hangouts
I don't have mine yet nor a proper solution. I plan on trying by switching off SMS in hangouts, downloading a 3rd party SMS app then restore my old sms/mms then switch back to hangouts. Maybe that would work?
You can install some SMS application from Play store and restored SMSs will be there. Not sure about the possibility to viewing old SMSs in hangouts.

I just used titanium backup to restore hangouts data from my nexus 4 onto my 5, worked fine.
If you don't have your texts in hangouts on the s4 then download the new hangouts apk and it should transfer texts when it sets up the sms functionality.
There's also an app called sms backup and restore which was updated for kit kat so that might work too.
SMS Backup and Restore worked fine for me (well, for SMS, it doesn't do MMS, but I don't care about them).
SMS might be in Hangouts now, but the message store is unchanged.

Yeah I got that working for SMS, but not MMS. Also i can only seem to view the SMS' when i'm signed-in to hangouts, I don't really want my hangout chats being in the same place as my SMS' tbh as i wont be signed in to hangouts all the time.

I can verify that this works. find the 4.4 hangouts apk. install it on your rom and then turn on the sms feature. itll transfer all your current texts into the hangouts app and then they can be restored from a titanium backup on your n5

I'm trying GoSMS Pro out at the moment, that seems to work and means I don't have to mix my SMS with my hangouts.

i never liked gosms. and to be honest i kind of like the integration of sms into hangouts. just curious if it'll work like imessage in bypassing cell service and using data/wifi to send msgs to other ppl using the new hangouts
It won't, SMS and IM's are seperate.
Ie. If I open Hangouts, I have two threads for my brother, one for SMS's and one for online Hangouts.
When I open hangouts, I see the SMS' i restored and my hangout chats, when i sign-out of hangouts they both vanish so I dont see SMS'

I've now had a similar success, but it was a bit more involved for me. I installed gosms on both devices (using a Tiberium Backup for the N5) but this did not work.
The method I used was to create a backup on the N4 using gosms, then copying the folder it to my N5 via Dropbox. I then restored the messages and opened Hangouts, and made it my default sms app. Gosms is now deleted and Hangouts appears to be restored and working fine.

Hi guys,
Can you please confirm what I should backup from the 4.3 rom AFTER transferring sms & mms to hangouts. Is it the hangouts app & data or just the sms/mms data.
Also I know that titanium can change the data format it uses for sms/mms. I think I normally have this set a 'prefer xml' or something. Is this correct for transferring to 4.4?
Cheers,

yes you wanna back up your rom and hangouts app after hangouts transfered your sms. i also deleted my stock mms apk for good measure. TB backup saves your mms as an xml file and i had no issues restoring. if you just care about sms and not your pictures, sms backup from the play store works just as well and is a bit faster

How to restore SMS from Titanium backup from G2 to N5?

Hey guys,
I cannot seem to get this to work. Even when I install an AOSP rom with an SMS app and Hangouts not activated- I cannot restore my Titanium backup of the SMS messages from my G2, and my G2 is gone so I only have the TiBu to restore. Has anybody gotten this to work?
thanks,
AC

AFAIK, there is no way to do that yet. You are essentially want to restore a db from one app to a completely different app. Doesn't work that way. Google would have to write a utility to extract the info from the sms database & then import it into Hangouts. I do not know of any way to do it currently, aside from manually entering the data into the hangouts db.
If it makes you feel any better, I couldn't restore my SMS messages from my Moto X onto my Nexus 5 with Helium. I just had to start over.
Edit: BTW, I was running the Hangouts v2 apk on my Moto X for my SMS, so it was the same Hangouts app that came loaded onto the Nexus 5. It still would not restore the texts.
Use SMS Backup and Restore as it can restore the SMS to hangouts app which is the new default. I had helium before and couldn't restore it, finally this app did the trick.!!
Hope this helps.
Go SMS has a backup option where it does it to their server then you can restore them on another device when you sign in on it.

MyBackup Pro Beta worked for me:
https://www.rerware.com/Android-Backup/MyBackupPro402beta.apk
I backed up from the old messaging app locally, transferred the 'rerware' folder, and restored to the new hangouts. I had to reboot to see the messages in hangouts. MMS and SMS both worked.
