So I hit the power button to put the tablet into standby and put it on my nightstand. A few hours later I came back to use it and it was stuck on a black screen and the tablet was very hot. It seemed like the the screen wasn't really "on," but the backlight was so it just looked like a black screen. I held the power button to turn it off and I then turn it back on. I took it out of its' leather case while it was rebooting and it was very hot. So hot I couldn't hold it for very long. I checked Battery Widget? Reborn! Pro to see what the battery temp was at. The app read it at 107 degrees Fahrenheit. I turned off the tablet let it cool a bit, then restarted it. Everything seemed fine and performed normally. For some reason airplane mode was activated when I initially restarted the tablet. It seems to do that when Tasker shut it down after the 3 hours of the screen being off. The thing is, I uninstalled Tasker a day ago.
Is there any chance this caused damage inside the tablet that may turn up later?
Anyone know why or how this happened?
Thanks,
Aaron

If it's acting normal for 1 day with normal use, I think you're safe.

I'll watch it closely for a few days to make sure. I appreciate the reply. 107F doesn't sound too hot when it comes to electronics, but, man, was it hot to touch/hold.

The same thing happened to me once, about two months ago. I wasn't using tasker...don't know what caused it but I may have had it on IPS+ and didn't turn it off. Anyway, I freaked, but as soon as it cooled down it seemed to work fine and has been fine ever since.

Funny thing is my power button and volume rocker were kind of sticky and stiff. Since the tablet heated up, the buttons don't make a popping sensation or feel stiff when I press them. Haha. Amazing.

Sometimes when I grab the phone out of my pocket and I press the power key to enable the screen, I discover that it is off :S. When I press the reset button it will start again, but it seems strange to me. You guys have a suggestion of what it could be?
Hmm, this sound familiar...
I've just posted re battery life and my phone waking up all by itself, but now I come to think of it I've seen this happen as well - or my phone just soft reset itself randomly occasionally.
I wonder if they are related problems...

When I press the normal power it won't start up, so it isn't totally shut down though. Only a reset will do it. Very annoying.

Mine has started and shutting
NOT powering up with the power key or
the soft reset. I literally have to
pop the battery out and back in to start
up the phone. ???
If your phone is randomly turning off...yet it turns back on...your battery may be reaching its end. How long have you had the phone? My dash used to tend to do this when it was reaching the end of its battery life...it wouldn't just...run down. I noticed a decrease in battery life, but the moment the phone needed heavy usage (internet, messaging) the battery couldn't dish out enough power and it'd just turn off...this would even happen in my pocket if enough calls or texts came through...then when I'd go to check, it'd be off.
It's not that, I'm assuming, it's the phone. I just bought a new HTC Touch Pro 2 Days ago, and it does the same thing. It randomly shuts down, and it even overheats, and I have 3 batteries for the phone because I use my phone extensively. Sad thing is, this phone was to be more powerful then my 6800 and so far, it's failing.
Well, then I'm assuming its time for a replacement, lol. I've had mine for a while now, never had that issue. Never had that issue with any phone except my Dash when the battery took a dump.
My phone is 2.5 weeks old. I would hope they battery wasn't dying already, but who knows. The keyboard quit today and the screen has been acting funny too. Like when it goes into "sleep mode" the screen fades but you can still see the buttons to unlock the phone and the buttons on the bottom are all lit up and won't turn off.
The screen is incredibly wiggly too... This happened after I took my phone to a local sprint store. They put the phone casing on it to show me what it would look like and then the guy yanked it off my phone.
I am starting to wonder if some of this is not related to that.
So, since the keyboard died today.. Asurion is sending me another replacement phone... Guess we will see.
I think my problem has something to do with this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3748976#post3748976
I recently have found that this happens to me whenever I turn the feature where it disconnects from EDGE when my device goes to sleep. However, when I turn that off and let EDGE continue to be on while my phone is in sleep I don't get this problem anymore. I have it checking my email every 5 minutes if that makes any difference.
alright dudes and dudettes.
i have the same issues more often than i would like.
it powers itself off and the only thing i cna do is soft reset. also sometimes when i wake the phone up, my plasma theme is distorted it still slides across but everything distorts and i cannot access any progs.
it is an annoying issue.
any fixes ideasm, help would be top. thanks..
hey guys i just got my transformer today. a couple of times i shut it off and when i try to turn it back on it wont work unless i plug it in, even though the battery is above 90%
I have a very similar issue.
I have the B40 model, when I shut down, I can't turn back on. I have been leaving my TF on all day then just shut down at night and when I come to turn on in the morning, iit is fine. Today I had to restart due to wifi constantly saying it was turning off for no reason, upon shutting down, it wouldn't power back up. I hav left it for approx 1 and a half hours, still nothing. Doesn't make any difference if it is plugged in or not. My battery is full.
Really could do with some help with this issue, as it is really spoiling what I regard as a brilliant device.

Once you plug it in and it come on, does it stay on when you take the charger off?
Once on and you hit the power button does it do anything?
You might have a faulty power button IMO.
I don't know about Krueger, but mine doesn't do anything when you plug it in. I have to wait a few hours. When I last shutdown, I was trying to restart, it just never did. I had full charge. I can't even get into APX mode. My TF is stock unrooted. Power button works just fine when tablet is on, does exactly as it should.

I've seen reports of peoples getting this "deep sleep" and not able to turn it on easily. Not sure if there's a definite fix or not. Some peoples say they have good luck turning of the lock screen, some say they fixed it by factory resetting the tablet.

Cheers m8.
I will give this a try when I can turn it back on again. Its been approx 6 hrs now since I tried to restart it. I will have to wait till morning I think. When it has done it previously, I have left it on charge all night, even though there was more than half in it each time, and it seems to start up after about 7 - 10 seconds of holding the power button in.
Thanks again

So I have spent 15 mins listening to the back of the device while trying toturn on. From what I can hear it sounds like a quiet jet engine firing up for approx 1-1 and a quarter seconds then sounds like the jet engine turning off (I know this sounds wierd, but best way I can describe). Its almost like there isnt enough power to fire it all the way up. There also other noises going on even when I dont try and turn it on, so I don't think it is fully turned of. Maybe a deep sleep issue. I did notice on this occassion, befor I tried to restart that I had no internet connection and when I went to check wifi settings it said Wifi is turning off. I leave it set to default.
Thanks

So I upgraded to JB via OTA yesterday with no problems. Today I'm reading an article on Chrome and the tablet screen shuts off and after a few seconds it looks like it's in the process of rebooting so I set it down and leave thinking it'll be booted up again when I come back but I was confused why it rebooted in the first place.
Anyways, about an hour and a half later I come back and my tablet is super heated to the point that it burns to touch it. The screen was blank but it looked like the backlight was on or something because it wasn't the same as if the screen was actually turned off. I held the power button down several seconds until it powered off and rebooted and then I set it down by my AC so that it could cool off. After a minute or so it booted up like normal to the main screen and it showed that the battery had drained from 95% when it first happened to 37% so it was obviously stuck doing something very CPU intensive during that hour and a half.
Does anyone have a clue what happened and if I should do something? I just bought this tablet from Best Buy yesterday without their additional warranty but should I either take it back there or possibly contact ASUS of a replacement or something? I know how bad that kind of heat is for computer components and it bothers me it was like that even for 1.5 hours. Also my tablet has not been rooted so it was completely stock save for the few apps I've installed so far.
Thanks in advance!
Had the exact same thing happen to mine about a month ago. Was worried afterwards that the excessive heat would have caused damage but so far have not seen any ill effects.

I would just take it back. Doesn't seems normal at all!
Ok well I feel a little bit better that I'm not the only one to experience this problem. It makes me nervous that this happened so I'll probably contact Asus and see what the deal is.
I've had the TF101 since it was first released in the USA. I haven't really used it much but lately I found a niche use for the tablet. The problem is most of the time it's really hard to turn the screen on. Almost every press to the power button will turn the screen on for about half a second and then it turns off. Then I have to wait about 5 sec before I can turn the screen on again but most of the time it will just repeat the same process. This is really frustuating. It appears this is less frequent if the tablet is laying flat instead of being held in hand, but I usually need to try it around 5 times before the screen will stay on.
The second problem is the screen will sometimes randomly turn off. Most of the time the screen will stay on for hours when I use it. Sometimes though, it will just turn off and then I'm met with the first problem. This is a sudden shutoff with no warning. Other times the right side of the screen will glow really bright before turning off. It appears to happen more frequently when I'm moving the tablet.
I'm using a rooted stock ICS rom. I'm pretty sure this is a hardware problem. Has anyone encountered this before? Is this something I can fix myself?
Thanks
I had the same prob many times. For me it was doing it real bad before i rooted. It is likely nothing serious. Could your lower frequency be too low? Try Katkiss. its very fast.
oddly the screen went off to the left a few mins ago. i never had that before but everything is back to normal it seems
I just flashed KatKiss 4.2 rom unto my TF101. Problem persists. At least the tablet is fast enough to be usable now.
I had this same problem...
It turns out that one of the kids had dropped the tablet and it bent the frame enough that it was putting pressure on the power button.
Yea sounds like the power button is either getting stuck, or it is faulty
So I've had my 16gb Tablet for a few days. Upon first power up, I ran through all the updates, including 5.0. When all the updates were done, I did a complete reset of the system to get Lollipop nice and fresh.
I've noticed that a few days ago, I left the tablet on my nightstand at about 50%, the next afternoon it was completely dead. I didn't think much of it, thinking maybe a program went crazy and sucked it dry. It happens.
Yesterday I left it on my bed at 64%, a few hours later I went to use it and it was powered off. At least I thought it was powered off. I'm noticing this unit might have bad buttons, as they are really squishy and don't have a lot of feedback for the up volume and power. So after pressing the crap out of the power button, it seemed to power back up. It greeted me to showing about 60% battery. Ok, that was weird, but not the end of the world. I plug it in to charge to 1005%.
Last night, I unplugged it at 100% and left it on my computer desk. Just now (next morning) I went to flip open the cover and it wouldn't turn on. I try hitting power and nothing. I hold the power down for about 20 seconds and it finally powers on. It boots up to 48% battery. Now keep in mind that I didn't do anything to it last night when I unplugged it. As a matter of fact, I didn't open apps, but I made sure I swiped all open cards away so nothing was running.
Sorry for the long post, but I want all the details here.
A couple questions:
Anyone else having random sleep issues where it won't wake up? I thought a lot was resolved going to lollipop?
Anyone have issues with soft sloppy buttons with no travel or click on the side? This is my second unit and I thought the first one had better buttons..
I'm having the same issue. Once it goes to sleep, sometimes it randomly just shuts down on its own. When I leave it on overnight, it's almost guaranteed to be off in the morning. Since I've come to work today, it's already automatically shut down twice. What the heck is going on?

It was the first thing I checked, and yes, it's disabled. I did a reset of my device yesterday and I've only had one random shutdown thus far. Not ideal, but still an improvement....
You need RMA, Please read this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=56907689
Same story for me, tablet was defective, battery drain even in airplane mode with no application installed. If your tablet do this, don't lose time and change it.
I've just purchased one and it's happening exactly the same, it happens constantly, also the battery drain is considerable.
I'm in Lollipop, and I've already done a coupe of factory reset.
Does anyone know if this can be repaired somehow? Or I'll have to return it...
Thanks!

Never requested a RMA to NVIDIA, are they fast? I've bought the tablet in Amazon, I have doubts yo who should I request it.
Thanks
So you should request amazon, unless Nvidia offer you a direct replacement in their forums.
Quick question. Does everyone here experiencing shutdowns have a case with an auto wake/sleep feature?
I too have this issue. Auto off is disabled.
I tried going back to gingerbread and the power issue is non-existent. Once I do all the updates to Lollipop the issue returns. Think it's an issue with the rom, since gingerbread works flawlessly.
I have both a skin and one with auto wake and my k1 has been shutting down on its own even with just tye skin on it.
