[Q] Call quality on JB - HTC Sensation

Hi, I'm experiencing serious problems if I install a Jelly Bean based rom on my Sensation 4g (TMOUS). Although the other party can hear me clearly, I can't hear them, but the sound is lagging, distorted or there is no sound at all. I only experience this on calls (both by cell network and by VOIP apps). If I'm using a headset the problems are gone. Media plays back fine too.
All problems disappear if I install an ICS rom (currently Revolution).
Does anybody else experience similar problems or know a fix?

I'm using jelly bean paranoid Android by Dragun Korr and my calls are all clear. Perhaps this is rom related. The issue could lie in the rom itself. Have you tried other jelly bean roms to test and see if it's that particular rom that's causing the issue? I would experiment and see if call quality returns with a different jelly bean rom. If after installing a different rom, the issue still persists then you will know this is device related. Do some experimenting and see. It's likely that once you flash a different jelly bean rom, the issue will disappear.. but do some experimenting and see. It's strange because on different jelly bean roms my data had terrible issues, once I flashed this jelly bean rom those issues went away. So do try another jb rom and see if the issue is still present or fixed. Best wishes.

realsis, thanks a lot for pointing this out - I've already tried different JB roms, but I gather they were all based on Bruce's CM10 version... I've installed ParanoidDragün now, and call quality is flawless again
I'm still curious why I had those issues with Bruce's Kang and similar roms, as nobody else seems to run into this issue... I've already tried different radios and firmwares, but nothing helped.
Guess I'll just have to avoid this rom, although I really like it (ParanoidDragün seems nice too though).
Anyway I'm happy now realsis, thanks a lot

Your welcome, you know I was also wondering the very same question. I have terrible trouble with the Cm roms myself. I thought I was the only one? I can't receive data on anyone of them. I'm so glad you got your issue fixed! I've never had any trouble myself with paranoid Android. I'm using kernel 3.0.53 and battery life is wonderful! Data is strong and calls are clear. There must be something in Cm that's messing with our data quality. For me, I had no data at all so, yes it's very strange that some can run it without issue, while others like you and I can not.. well, I'm very happy you are able to run jelly bean now without problems! Take care

Xoom Team Eos Jelly Bean vs Official Jelly Bean OTA

Hi,
I am a little sick of the stuttering of Jelly Bean on my Xoom wifi - as I understand it, it's because of the Xoom's poor performing flash read write speeds, which is something that won't go away. My only question is: does the Team Eos Jelly Bean rom mititgate this lag a bit? Or is it still present regardless of what rom is flash on the device?
Countless threads about this already.
However, my opinion us that the first soak and release just wasn't up to par...hence the current soak.
Ive tried both and have notice stutter on both of them. I'm using stock for now because I like it.
Sent from my vivow using xda premium
I am using a 4G Xoom with the latest EOS JB nightly. Honestly for the first couple of weeks the stuttering was pretty bad, but over the past month or so things have gotten much better. I would personally recommend giving EOS a try for a few days and see. I would be surprised if you don't see a difference.

Jelly Bean on HTC Inspire.. my experience.

I am writing my experience with Jelly bean on inspire as I wanted to read one before I tried it but didnt find anything in detail. Here is how I did it and how it has been so far:
I used THIS to root my phone and THIS is the ROM that I used. Please note that you have to install google apps separately to get access to market. Download link is on the same page as ROM.
It went quite smooth and took me about half hour before I had the phone up and running again. I have been using it for last 2 days.
So far everything I have tried has been working:
TOUCH SCREEN: works perfect.
All HARD KEYS are working.
Camera works fine
Camcorder works okay, not great though (the recorded videos have few stutters).
ixMAT scanner dint work but BarCode Scanner did.
Wifi/network data works good.
GPS works fine, i traveled some 20 miles without any problems.
Bluetooth works fine.
Phone works good. Initially it sounded like "sounds was too loud for speaker". I was able to fix that by decreasing the volume just a bit.
Accelerometer and other sensors work good.
I haven't felt any difference in battery. It charged as quickly as it did before and battery life seems okay (although I have really been using it a lot).
Performance of jelly bean:
It is amazingly smooth and fast. Initially I missed the sense UI but once i got used to NOVA launcher, it feels great. I found a launcher called "LP Sense UI". It gives the same feeling as Sense 3.0 did ( I came from Stock 2.3.5 ROM with Sense 3.0) although it is not very customize-able. If you are Sense clock lover, you may like this widget called "Sense flip clock and weather". I like its visuals. Its music apps "Apollo" is quite nice.
You can see a screenshot of my home screen.
Feel free to post if you have any comments/questions.

Update: Just discovered that by default, the system disables wifi when the phone goes to sleep which results in higher data usage. To avoid this, System settings>wifi> hit Menu and select Advanced> Keep wifi on during sleep> always. This may result in a little higher battery usage.
Update 2: Almost a week now and it is still running quite smooth despite the fact that I have tried A LOT of apps and a lot of widgets. Occasional hang ups have happened when an app becomes non responsive and I have to wait a couple of minute; happened to me twice in a week.
I used to use this rom but now I'm on miui, pretty much better when it comes to camera and battery life.
updated the OP and added a couple of screenshots..
Jellytime from RB es working great, no big issues.

I get horrible WiFi signal on my wife's inspire with all the JB Roms. I'm fairly certain its the Kang Bang kernel. Haven't tried any of the CM10 nightlies yet, but every other ROM, ICS or GB, the WiFi signal is excellent. And I know its not my router, an Asus RT-66U, I get signal on my skyrocket from that thing out in the street. Lordmod's kernel was the same way, but Existz TalonAce always proved better. Hopefully Existz will give us JB soon.

Jelly Time is a solid JB rom and I liked it when I used it for a few weeks.
Right now, I use Codefire as my daily rom.
Pacman is a great ROM as well, in the dhd development section.

The AOKP JB is really great. So far no issues
JB & ICS Roms
In the last 3 months I have used 8 different roms, on CM10 latest nightly. Seems good.
I have swappted the radio trying to find the best one. I only get about 40ft of wifi with one dot.
had the 12.69s and now back to 12.59 and it seems to pick up a little better with less battery drain.
Still playing around to find the best combo.
Thanks for sharing. I'm looking to root my htc and wasn't sure which rom to use.
I currently have the most recent and up to date Ice cold sandwich ROM, and I was thinking of switching to jelly bean. Should I make the switch? I don't know much about these ROM's my friend does, and I've heard jelly bean is a great ROM.
I've been rockin cm10.1 and can never go to ICS or even 4.1.2 again runs so smooth

JB is good...but keep in mind like any other ROM...there is going to be bugs.

Was using Sabsa prime v 8.0 which had ICS 4.0.3 and now am running CyanogenMod 10.1 with jelly bean 4.2.1 and I am not considering going back. In fact I am looking at how smoothly this 10.1 runs on galaxy note 2 so when I upgrade I can get 4.1.2 Samsung touch whiz stuff off.

I tried a few of the various jellybean roms and while I really liked them I had a few probs, wifi signal being one, on another it would just freeze up on me, another had really bad sound artifacts when I would listen to music though headphones that I just couldn't live with.
I went to ICS aospx and am content, my battery life kills my wifes stock inspire 4g while running very smoothly...
I may give another one of the jellybean roms another try with a different kernel and see what happens... but right now i'm happy so we'll see if I change it.
Thanks for sharing your experience, based on this I am going to give this a shot.
which kernel and radio suits for jelly bean?
I'm running the JellyTime ROM as well, and I'm pleasantly surprised at how well it's working. I was running CM7.2 previously, and while I liked it, there was a persistent GPS bug that was not being fixed. Navigator would lose GPS after 2 min and never recover it, although I learned that the workaround is to toggle GPS while Navigator is running. JellyTime originally had this bug as well, which apparently made it into CM10. But one of the JellyTime updates fixed it, and hopefully it was back-ported into CM10.
I've only been running JellyTime a few days, but all the important things seem to work well. One minor issue is that the backlight on the hardware keys goes out after a few seconds, rather than staying on when the screen is on or being turned on by the proximity sensor. One thing I miss was a widget in CM7.2 that pulled down notifications, which was a convenience in lieu of swiping.
Cm10.1 smooth
if you like JB, you will also like CM10.1, it's smooth so far for me, everything works or the apps I used all works. I will update, if I find any issues.

[Q] Most Stable JB Rom?

Hi, I was wondering what in your opinion is the most stable JB rom? My parents and I all have a Skyrcocket, and they have been on CM9 for a while now. They don't know much about how to use their phones, so that is why I got them a stable version of CM9 last summer, while I have been on JB since it came out.
I have tried a wide variety of JB roms, but I know how to use them all well and what to do in case of most issues, even minor ones such as having no connectivity on reboot. My parents however get really confused when stuff like this happens, and don't even think to reboot, even though I have told them about how to fix it numerous times. On the CM9 they have, stuff like this never happens and it all is pretty stable.
However, my mom recently started having random problems on CM9, so i upgraded her to the latest stable CM10 and installed gapps, UCLK4 radio, which works the best for me, and lightning zap kernel. Now she is having weird problems like her camera not working due to the error 'no external storage present,' which i have encountered on another jb rom before, and reflashed a different one to fix it. i just tried slim bean 3.1 for a while to test for her, and i get weird stuff like the no connectivity on boot issue i mentioned before, which can be fixed with a reboot, but is too big of a problem for my parents to handle. i also tried cm9 the latest nightly just yesterday, and am experiencing some weird minor issues as well.
i even thought about going back to ics, although she would prefer to upgrade if possible. and i thought about flashing the latest att jb leak, but i figured that would most likely have even more issues, haha.
so does anyone think there is a jb rom out now that is as stable as cm9 ics was? thanks!
Just put them back to stock. You're nuts putting a custom rom on someone's phone who isn't into the issues they have. They all have something that doesn't work as you'd expect.

I think you have to read through the threads and see which one(s) fit your needs best, then try those ROMs for yourself instead of starting a best thread.

I'm with you, i like official roms, I personally like HTC phones before using my skyrocket (ROMS work great on HTC and stock ROMS are also great), the official ICS on skyrocket sucks big time (to laggy), but I still like it better than custom.

Install official ICS to them, no more problems, but on the downside, a lot of lag will be present!!!
From the moderator
DO your research on this as it really is a personal decision. As stated by others all roms have something that is buggy. My personal take if they are not into customizing but want good battery life, and the basics to work well and do not need a bunch of bells and whistles you might try AOKP roms as they work well and are easy to configure for a novice.
That said, there are way to many "Best rom" threads..... So

[Q] Jellybam 3.2.0 bluetooth problem

Hi. I haven't got the post count to ask this in the Jellybam thread, so though I'd give my problem a go in here.
Is there a known issue with the Bluetooth in the Jellybam roms? I've tried 3.0.0, 3.1.0 and 3.2.0 and with each one I can pair the phone with my car but the phone book wont load up and it phone keeps disconnecting. Also despite it being set to use the cars audio, it does not.
Previously to this I was using Stickman89's Jellybean JBMIUI rom with no issues.
A full wipe was done when switching from the JBMIUI rom.
Any ideas guys?
Cheers.
Can't help but can confirm the same issue, all day in the car it kept connecting and disconnecting to my Bluetooth car kit.
Have you noticed it keeps going into silent mode? I am sure its related.
Yes I am using jelly am 3.2.0.

Yes I had noticed that, but put it down to the constant connecting/disconnecting of the Bluetooth. I'm hoping a fix can be found as otherwise this is a great rom. If not I'll have to revert back to JBMIUI rom.
Jellybam is not the issue I believe. Android 4.2 changes now android uses Bluetooth and as such has broken a lot of things for people like we now cannot connect Wii remotes via Bluetooth as we'll get an error stating that the apps cannot find the path to it

Unless I'm missing something Jellybam is 4.1.2. So I'm pretty sure it's not the 4.2 Bluetooth problems I've been reading about.
Update.
I gave up on JellyBam (which is a shame as I liked every other aspect, but not JellyBams fault) and tried a couple of other Jelly Bean roms. Both of which had the same Bluetooth connection issues.
So it would seem the only Jelly Bean rom where the bluetooth works is Stickman89's JBMIUI rom (other JBMIUI roms may work also). Though due to me being bored of the MIUI rom now, I've gone to an ICS rom Elegancia sense 4.1 v3.2.0
I shall keep an eye on Jelly Bean as hopefully this Buetooth issue will be solved and I can go back to JellyBam at a later date.

While video recording it lags a lot and sometimes it crashes.
Please tell me what more information you need, i will try to provide...
It depends on your resolution, if you're running at 720p it will be a little bit laggy but it sounds like it's a problem with the ROM's you're using. What JB rom's have you tried so far because I'm running PACman and it's ok
I have tried Andromadus CM 10.1 Build 10,11 and 12. All the three roms have same problem.
I will be OK with a little bit of lagging but it lags a lot. Sometimes the recorded video is good and sometimes the recorded video also gets recorded with lags.
Try something like PACman which is what I use, I haven't had any problem so far...
