Should I buy one? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone, I'm looking for a cheap laptop but I really only have $200-$230 to spend. Do think this'll work? I have a Nexus 7 and a Nexus 4 coming soon, but I really just want a nice word processing machine. The TF101+Keyboard dock should work perfectly for that.
Anything wrong with my plan? I use Gapps for pretty much all my school work so I should be good.
Also, how much are these things worth these days? Will $230 get me the 16gb model with the keyboard dock?

Depending on where you buy, it can get you that combination. Try CTO.

I just passed up a combo of what your looking for off of ebay. It had the TF101, Keyboard Dock. and (2) 16GB sd cards. It sold for just $250.00

[Q] 16 gb or 32 gb??? Confused.....

I bought the tf300t last week at best buy. I didnt and still dont see any 32 gb models anywhere except mentioned in reviews......read one that said a 32 gb model is available for $399.
Did i miss something???
Bought my 32gb from Amazon.
Hmmmm. Gonna have to have a chat with Best Buy.
I don't necessarily need 32 gb but for resale value and simple economics I would prefer the 32 for $20 more than I paid for the 16.
Lame that they have them priced so ridiculously close together. I don't get it.
I got my 32GB from Walmart (though I actually despise Walmart as a company; I had a gift card).

Best Buy only carries the 16Gb. I agree, I would have bought the 32Gb version if they had it, but I had some rewards certificates and a $10.00 coupon expiring soon so I went ahead and took the plunge on the 16Gb version.
The 32Gb version would have been nice, but with a microSD card slot, it's not as critical as on, say, an iPad.
Since I have never been able to move an app to an external card (successfully) on my former rooted Lenovo K1 or the TF300, I like having the larger internal memory. On the other hand, 16 gigs is probably adequate for most folks app needs. When I purchased, 32 gigs was all that was available.

My suspicion is that the marketing guys at Best Buy feel they can only move Android tablets that are priced below the iPad (the iPad 2 going for $399.00). Which is kinda annoying, if true.
I exchanged mine yesterday for a 32gb.
My 16gb was defective....... the screen would lock up and become unresponsive. Bad batch?
Best Buy was totally cool....no questions asked. Happy with this 32gb.....nice!
On the fence about rooting and flashing anything......

Nexus 7(16gb) vs TF300. Gawd, I'm torn!

So now Google is releasing this Nexus 7. However I still can't decide between this and a TF300. Sure the 7 is a Nexus device, so I'll be getting a perfectly stock experience with good updates, but compared to the TF300 it still seems lacking: no SD slot, way less memory, smaller screen...ok, I know the TF300 isn't as cheap, but compared to the 7 in its 16 gb version it's not much more expensive: I could get it for 330€ right now, and maybe it will drop a little more before the 7 starts shipping. Also, ASUS hasn't got a bad update policy anyway, so it's really a close call. Any suggestions? I really can't decide.
Sent from my Lumia 800 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
For the price of one TF300 you could buy 2 Nexii tablets... they are also targeting two different groups of people. Think do you need a 7' or a 10' tablet and then your decision has been made
First decision you got to make at to you want a 7' or 10.1' tablet
Secondly. do you want the microSD
Finally. do you need the dock for the TF300
HOPED THAT HELPED
Well, honestly I'm not bothered too much by the smaller screen, but I assume that the TF300 will have a bigger battery. Anyway I'm still not sure, because at the end of day it's just a tablet, I don't know if it's worth the extra buck, basically because I'm not really sure about how much I will actually use it.
At the end of the day I just want a new toy, but maybe the TF300 could be more useful in general, and maybe even replace my laptop on some occasions...the dock is cool, but the package becomes expensive that way

I say wait a bit a they should release a Nexus tablet with Jelly Bean and an SD slot and more memory.
Nexus 7. Don't have to spend an arm and a leg to get one. And its a Nexus device!

Yeah, the fact of it being a Nexus device appeals me the most, basically because I've never owned one. I'd be getting the 16GB version tho, so assuming it will cost 249€ the price isn't that different from the one of the better specced TF300...if it drops to 299€ or so then it would be definitely a better bang for the buck...

Also note that chances are the TF300 had a wireless problem due to its metal case.. although only a handful of people experience this..
If you don't fancy screen size and storage space I'd suggest the N7..

Exactly. But since then, (to my knowledge) there hasn't been a nexus device with expandable memory.
I think I read an article no too long ago that companies might start moving away from sd slots.... But I think that seems pretty far-fetched and ridiculus. Anyone know anything about that?

I think at the end of the day its all about the price... paying twice as much for a transformer with some more features probably won't go down with people too well... but yes if maybe a $50 difference then sure transformer it is...

I'm in the same situation, the N7 is great but it's missing some features that i really want. Think i might also wait for the new Kindle specs.
I actually just managed to pick up an open-box TF300T for $300 on JR.com this past Saturday. They also have an open-box dock for $100 when it's in stock.
If you can find a deal like this, I'd definitely jump on the TF300T instead. :good:

Now I'm almost sure I'm getting the TF300, mainly because I would really miss the HDMI port (I also heard somewhere that the 7 doesn't even support MHL, WTF??), and also because the N7 won't ship to Italy until september, and I definitely wanna have my tablet with me when I'll be on vacation

[Q] Too good to be true?

So after having my TF101 for over a year, it took a nasty fall and became unusable. This was of course devastating, made even worse by the fact that I am about to start at a new school. I have been wanting to upgrade for awhile, but since I bought it with my last paycheck from a job I lost, this has not been possible. However, due to this tragedy, my parents are considering buying me a new one, but paying full price is out of the question. So, I found this site through Google selling a TF300T for only $229, which seems too good to be true. Can anyone say if this is a legit site?

I read a lot of comic books and the 10.1 screen is perfect for them. Also, I like the convertibility. And of course, the Nexus not having expandable storage is a deal breaker for me.

You can expand the storage by connecting a memory stick/HDD into the micro-USB port by using some cable (can't currently remember the cables name). And there have been rumours of a Nexus 10 coming soon. Anyways 229 is probably too little for TF300 because here where I live the 32 GB one without the dock is 419.

If you can afford it, then, I'd go for the TF700. I downloaded the "free preview" of Watchmen from Barnes & Noble and it was pretty cool, but it was also pretty obvious that on a high-def screen it would absolutely rock. I'm not much of a comics guy, but if I were, that's definitely what I'd do.

I second this, got my from Amazon, next day shipping, Like new, for 269 I believe just a couple weeks ago. Still had ICS on it (no promise there though) so if I had wanted to retain the ICS bootloader I would have been able to.
I'm smitten with mine, although I really REALLY wish dev. would move forward a little farther.
Nice tablet though! My fiance was able to trade her BS prime in for a brand new TF700 at Best Buy, straight trade even thought we have had it for almost a year due to the issues it is known for. Color me jealous

Could some recommend a good tablet

I was thinking of a 7" screen. If I put this in the wrong section I'm very sorry. Thanks in advance!!!
My daughter loves her nook tablet. Been running cm10.1 on it for almost a year. We very rarely restart it and does everything. It is a 7" and it a good size and durable. No webcam though, not a big deal for us. You should be able to get one under $75 if you look around.

Note 8 costs about $450 usd 16 gb while nexus 7 2013 costs about $230 usd 16 GB. The extra inch on note 8 is great and Spen if your in college like one of my boys. The extra PPI and resolution on nexus 7 2013 is great for media consumption. You may not want to buy last years nexus 10 like that guy above me suggested as the new one will come to market in a month. In fact there are several nice ones coming soon.

The only tablet I'd even consider is the Shield Tablet. I've gone through too many tablets. Tried to justify each one, and I just found myself never using them.

I'll bite in this one so long as there is an LTE version. I have a 2013 Nexus 7 LTE and had a 2012 before that. If there is a Nexus 9 with Lte on Verizon I will edge up my current tablet line and get it. I always wanted a Nexus device with a little more screen real Estate. 9 inches is perfect and made by HTC with front facing speakers. What could go wrong? Fingers crossed for an Lte version, and not six months after its release as Verizon has been wont to do what Nexus tablets.

I have the Nexus 7 2013, and while I wouldn't mind a slightly larger screen...I just don't see myself getting it any time soon. It looks like a great laptop, but I use my tablet almost exclusively for reading now. And for watching downloaded movies/TV shows while travelling, which isn't often. I just can't justify the price for what I use it for, when my N7 still works great. I need to learn how to lie to myself better.
My Acer Iconia A200 is on its last legs, the battery is dieing on it so I am seriously tempted by this tablet, plus with the keyboard folio it makes it that much sweeter, my one gripe is the lack of SD card support.
Anyone know if this will support full size USB via dongle or MHL hdmi output?
I still have the note 8.0 which runs like its brand new, tbh, I hardly even use it. If anything, I would want a refreshed nexus 7 or and 8 inch.... I do have my eye on the nvidia shield tablet though..
