[Q] data dissappears after restart - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Ok here is the problem... I rooted the phone, played with some settings, explored the android platform in general. Somehow, my data has stopped working. I can make calls and send texts no problem, when I try to access internet or google play store, it fells me that I have no data connection available or something of the sort. I have tried flashing different roms, played around with switching between Global and Lte/cdma radio bands. When I switch bands, I get either 4g or 3g, but within half hour it stops working again. After a restart, same thing happens, it worka and then atops. I figure there is something messed up with the modem. Please advise.
Also, anyone else experiencing sudden restarts with CleanRom 5.0? My phone reboots every once in a while for no apparent reason.

Have you tried flashing a different modem?
Worst come to worse, ODIN back to 100% stock and start over.

No clue how to flash a modem

http://rootzwiki.com/topic/34053-of...zon-sgs3-sch-i535-odin-or-recovery-flashable/
Pick the latest from the right column and flash in recovery as you would a ROM.

Looked into it a bit more.... my 4g or 3g works after a restart as long as there is a demand for it, ex. While surfing or streaming radio, as soon as there is no demand, the phone shuts it off and I can't turn it back on. It tells me no signal found for mobile networks. While voice and mssg still work. I refreshed the modem and that didn't help. Short of going back to stock, any other suggestions?

Roaming on CM7??

Flashed CM7 the other day (thanks again for the help Carmon!) and love it. Only issue I am having so far is...I've been unable to roam. I live in a fringe area, and normally roam on Verizon towers at home. I attempted *228 several times (while on US Cellular), and the recorded message (voice) states that the update was successful, but the message on my screen says "activation unsuccessful". I am able to make and receive calls and send messages, etc...but the phone will not roam. I have networks set to automatic, and national data roaming enabled. Any ideas?? Anyone??
The screen always says unsuccessful, it's a known glitch. Try setting roam options to home only or whatever, sometimes they get mixed up in the process of building and fixing other stuff.

Appreciate your response! I've tried every setting. Home only gives me US Cellular signal. When set to "Affiliated Networks", the setting will not remain there, it resets itself to Home only. When set to "Automatic", it catches US Cellular signal, but does not roam when there is no US Cell signal.
Surprised nobody else has this problem...
It may be a issue in which we need to go all the way back to stock and do the ADW fix.
Yeah possibly... scarmon do you have that to post? Ive never had to do it and I never copied it down...

I know how to do it but not sure on the names for everything until I'm in there. Let me see if I can find the thread with the.video on it. If not the OP can IM me. He has my Gtalk and I can walk him through it if needed.

Seems that fix is for phones that are always roaming. Is it known to work for the problem I'm having also (no roaming)??
Just got done flashing back to stock and completing the ADW fix. Flashed back to CM7...still no roaming. Tried every setting and every combination of settings with NO luck.

That's really odd... are you sure you're in a roaming area? The phone wont roam if you have uscc signal.

I am in a roaming area...as I mentioned above, I live in a fringe area, and my phone (usually) constantly switches between US Cell and Verizon. Now, it does not switch...it just goes from US Cell to NO service.
On another note, since I re-flashed, I am not receiving sms. And when I send sms, they are blank???
When you went back to stock did you flash the EH09 Build or did you flash EE19.
Edit. Didn't mean to double post
I did a full flash back to stock Froyo since I had the files already...
Everything is working except sms...

[Q] 4G Connection Issues (Haven't Lost WiMax Keys)

Hello. After lots of rooting, ROM flashing, and all that good stuff, somewhere in the process I did something that must be keeping me from using 4G. When I turn on my 4G antenna, in settings it just says I'm "Disconnected" and when I scan for service, it scans for maybe five seconds and goes back to disconnected. In the settings, all three fields for 4G network information (Network provider, Signal strength, and IP address), are blank.
I used wimax_mtd and ls /data/misc/wimax/ to make sure I still had my keys, and I do, they match what's written on the back of the phone exactly. I tried this with no luck.
Anyone know what is causing the problem? I'm running a fully rooted gingerbread.

What rom/version? What provider? What troubleshooting steps have you taken?
Sprint. The ROM is just a rooted version of Gingerbread (2.3.3). The software number is 2.76.651.4. Troubleshooting? I don't even know what you're asking there. I have my keys, I've confirmed that. I tried one thing from the thread I linked. I can't connect. What else am I supposed to try?

Flash the new radio/wimax radio, update profile/prl/twice/reboot twice, tweak ##DATA# settings.
Read the Wiki here:

And search around the forum.

Unless your actually connected Network provider, Signal strength, and IP addresswill appear blank when you look in settings. If you've confirmed you have your keys, and are in a 4G zone. Then you can try a simple trick that sometimes works. Put the phone in Airplane mode for a few minutes. Then take it out of Airplane mode, and try to connect to 4G. If that doesn't work then go ahead and update the radios as VICODAN said. That should solve the issue.
Still no luck
I just tried all of those steps, besides the airplane mode one, with no luck, but I'm trying the airplane mode idea right now, and if that doesn't work, I'll elaborate.
EDIT:
Okay, no luck.
So I went through and flashed the newest radio and the wimax radio, and in the process I realized that I didn't actually have the newest radios beforehand. (I also learned that I hadn't yet formatted my microSD card to FAT32, so it's good that I realized that too. ) After that, I went into System Uupdates and updated Profile and PLR, then I rebooted, and I did it again, and I rebooted. You said to do it twice, so that's why, but you said twice twice so I wasn't sure which part to do twice. (Wow, that was a mouthful.)
After all of that, I tried the airplane more thing, with no success. I've connected to 4G in the past here, and the spring website even says my area has 4G coverage, so I know that's not the issue.
Also, about the tweaking ##DATA# settings, I mentioned that I tweaked it according to the link I put in the original post, but is there anything else I should try?
Thanks for the suggestions so far.

Last thing to try is ##rtn#, wipes fone and resets to factory defaults, then do hands free activation.
Also make sure your [email protected] stuff is configured properly. This is also somewhere in ##DATA# settings.
You can also try flashing a different rom like CM7
But before you do that call sprint tech support and tell them to fix it. They might be able to do something on their side.
Okay thanks, I'll call them later today.
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App
So I called, the woman had me do a few things, and after hitting restore from the menu in ##DATA#, the 4G is behaving differently. Instead of scanning and returning to disconnectec, it now goes to "turning on ..." Then to "turning off ..." And back to on again. It cycles forever, until I manually turn it off.
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App
Well it sounds like something is still wrong. Try flashing a different Rom to rule that out. If that doesn't work, and having WiMax is a must. Then you may want to think about running an RUU back to 2.2 stock. Then just start the whole root process all over.

[Q] Need help with connectivity issues. DESPERATE

Hey guys, quick background. I bricked my SGS3 and had to have it replaced. I think I got a refurb phone because from day one I keep having the same issue. First day I got the replacement phone I rooted it and flashed CleanROM 5.0. Everything was peachy until I noticed that I have no 4G or 3G service. In fact, I had no data connectivity at all. My phone can make calls, receive texts no problem, won't connect to internet. If I restart the phone, I have 4G right away. After a few minutes, the 4G icon is on, but the phone won't has no data connection (when I say data connection I mean it will not go online, no internet, no android market, still have voice and txts). If I attempt to go on internet, I get a message saying "No Signal Found For Mobile Networks". I have installed Network Signal Info and right after a restart it says 4G LTE, data connected, upload+download activity. After a few minutes, it says 4G LTE, data connected, after a little while, it will switch to EHRPD, with data "connecting". Also, in the System tab, it will tell me my IEMI and version of JB running, next to "Radio", it says "unknow". WiFi works perfectly btw. My IEMI is perfectly fine,
I had it backed up. My phone number is still there.
Here is what I had tried so far: Switching into and out of Airplane mode, different programs that reset mobile connection, flashed different custom ROMs, flashed the stock kernel, flashed 3 or 4 verizon Modems, Data wipe, cache, Dalvik wipe, Odin'ed back to stock 4.0.1 ICS and had upgraded it to 4.1.1 via verizon software update, changed the SIM card, and reprovisioned the phone with that *3767*whatever the hell code. I'm out ideas.
If anyone has any other idea that I can try before I take it back to Verizon, please, let me know.

Did you go into your mobile data settings to make sure you're on CDMA/LTE? If not I would select and reboot the phone and see if the problem persists. I don't know if you have tried this but it's worth a shot.
I'm having literally the same exact problem with my mom's S3 except for it's not rooted, complete with 'download + upload activity' and 'unknown' radio. I've yet to find anything in my search, but if I do I'll post it here.

I did try that. Nothing seems to be working.

Modem Freezing? Dropping internet.

UPDATE: Here's a screen recording showing the issue.
NOTICE! You might see battery-saving apps running in the video, but I have factory-reset and un-rooted twice and run FULL STOCK no apps like that installed, and I still get this problem<<<
Youtube: http://youtu.be/MGPxlV2Q-0I
I've got a N5 from the play store right when it came out. I've noticed that randomly during the day if I'm using the internet via browser, apps, hangouts, etc the page / app will suddenly lose connectivity. Not just the app though, nothing on my phone can access internet. The status bar with show full bars, and 3G or H connectivity and activity, and when I pull down the quick settings the connection is white, not red. So I toggle airplane mode, but when I do so there is a long delay where nothing happens. Maybe 20 or 30 seconds before airplane mode finally kicks in. Then after disabling airplane mode, I can use the internet again for a while before I have to repeat. Sometimes I cannot get internet back whatever I do though, including reboots, airplane mode toggles, other toggles, searching for networks, network mode... etc.
Often toggling airplane mode will also allow apps to refresh for a second or two (I get a handful of instagram, whatsapp, Hangouts messages, etc) then all connectivity halts again, even though it's showing it's still connected.
Any thoughts what might cause this? I've flashed older radios, wiped and flashed several Roms including full stock not rooted, and I keep having this issue.
There's a chance it could be my carrier, but my wife's phone on the same carrier (but a store-bought N5) never has this issue...
Thanks for your input! Getting REALLY frustrated at this...
rooted? are you undervolting?

I have noticed that often - but not always - this is the case.
Do you have this issue often?
Does airplane mode take forever to turn off the cellular radio when this happens?
Thanks!
I have the issue maybe once a day. I have never tried airplane mode, but turning off cellular data from that stage takes a looooong time (atleast 20 sec).

I've been having the same problem for some time now. Exact same description as OP. I'm on T-mobile using Cataclysm Rom, but I've gone through Cyanogenmod, AOKP, Stock and PA and still get the same thing. Was looking for Radios to see if that fixes the issue.
In addition to OP, I've noticed too that often I can't connect to any network, or mobile internet will never go from connected (red) to fully connected (white).
Also sometimes the signal shows red (not fully connected) but my internet is working fine....
And other times it can't find my network, and scanning shows no networks, then later, same location, 10 different networks show. Open sky, not inside.
I'm hoping thisnisnpart of the 4.4.2 bug dealing with dropping internet connection, but not sure...
I've tried radios, might try again. My next attempt will be a new Sim card / talk to carrier again about a misconfig. Then if no luck, I'll see about a replacement phone...

[Q] Intermittent Internet on HSPA/LTE - Connection Drop

Hi, I have a very particular issue with my Oneplus One which it seems to me software related and I hope someone can help me here. I've tried to find an answer here in the XDA and in the Oneplus One forum but no one seems to have the same issua as mine. I've also tried to flash different modems, and doesn't fix it. Tried to play with the *#*#4636#*#* menu and didn't have luck as well.
Before I start I'm on Three network in UK. My phone is rooted but no Xposed installed. CM11S latest version installed.
Things I tried to solve the issue:
I've already tried to flash different modems or play with the *#*#4636#*#* menu but I have no luck. Tried factory reset, complete wipe on recovery and restore of the CM11S. Nothing helped.
What it happens is that sometimes, using HSPA or LTE I'm not able to use the internet. It doesn't seem to be a signal issue because I have full bars and I can even see the arrows up and down in the status bar inside the signal meter. I'm not able to use browser, listen to Spotify or anything internet related. Calls are ok. It usually an issue when I'm on HSPA+ but sometimes in LTE as well.
A reboot usually does the trick and makes it work, but sometimes not and it takes a while to come back and connect. That's really annoying.
Just another piece of info, it usually happens when I disconnect from Wifi and connect to the phone network or when I don't have signal (I'm in the tube for example) and come to an area where I have signal.
I hope someone here might be able to help. The only thing I haven't tried yet is to change to other carrier. But that would be last option as I appreciate the All-you-can-eat data allowance from Three.
Thank you in advance.

Have you checked if you had the right APN ?
Yes, Apr settings are right. Just to be clear. I can connect to HSPA and LTE. What happens is that the connection drops and just fix if I reboot.

Same problem here. Have you found a solution? Or is it a hardware problem?
Hey sorry for bumping an old post but I'm having the same problem. In the UK on non-EE T-mobile. I get enough signal and H seems to connect, but I can't access the Internet. The upload arrow shows but the download arrow rarely appears.
I've tried flashing different roms, modems, recoveries to flash them, all to no avail
I have the same problem, but I don't have to restart, putting the phone in airplane mode and releasing after 2 seconds does the trick. still very annoying. no one has any idea of how to solve it?
My ROM is CM11 44S
