[APP][2.1+] Silence -- a scheduler for changing your ringer and other settings! - Android Apps and Games

--+ Silence +--
Hello! I'm posting to tell you all about an app that some friends and I have just released to the Google Play Store, called Silence!
Silence allows you to toggle your sound and system settings automatically over scheduled intervals.
With this app, never again will you have to worry about silencing your phone during that important meeting, or even missing calls and texts later in the day because you forgot to turn the volume back up. Simply put in your schedule, choose your toggles, and forget about it. Let us do all the work for you.
Features:
- Simple, intuitive Holo-themed interface
- Schedule events that occur once, or repeat on certain days of the week
- ...or, use your events from Google Calendar*!
- Change your ringer, notifications**, media, or alarm volumes over scheduled intervals
- Turn Wi-fi, Bluetooth, mobile data***, and airplane mode**** on and off
- Change your settings back automatically when the scheduled event ends
The permissions requested are required to be able to change the state of your phone automatically. The ad-supported, free version of Silence uses internet permissions only to display advertisements. We do not collect any data from you.
Feel free to contact us with any suggestions, concerns, or feedback! If one of the toggles isn't working for you, please send us an email with your phone model and Android version so we can fix it!
* Calendar support only in Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and up. We are working on support for older devices!
** Notification volume and ringer volume are combined in Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and up. If you are running a custom ROM which splits them back into separate volumes, check the appropriate option in the settings menu to set each volume separately.
*** Mobile data toggling is only supported on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and up. This toggle is in BETA so unfortunately does not support the "change back" option for now. If you find this toggle does not work on your device, please email us with your phone model and Android version so we can fix it!
*** Airplane mode is not supported in Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean r2) and up.
What's new
v2.0
- New look and feel
- Support for repeating events "until" a certain date
- In addition to ringer, you can now also toggle notification*, media, and alarm volumes
- Set specific volume levels for each sound toggle
- Integration with Google Calendar events*
- Added the ability to toggle mobile data* (beta)
* For certain Android versions only; see above description for details.
v1.0
- Initial Release
Things to look forward to:
- The ability to "whitelist" certain contacts, so that their calls always come through no matter what the phone is set to
- A homescreen widget which allows for quick activation of a preset profile
- An option for 24-hour format
- Other suggestions from our users!
** Unfortunately, we cannot support GPS toggling nor airplane mode on 4.2+. Access to these settings are restricted to system apps, even when rooted. **

Silence is all about being simple and easy-to-use, not to mention being totally convenient. We'd greatly appreciate it if you'd take a few minutes to check out the app. Please leave any feedback and/or suggestions for us! Thanks!

A rarely well-designed app
The other day, while browsing the newest offerings of the android market, I noticed Silence and decided to give it a shot. Rest-assured it was a worthy investment of my time. Tasker may have better functionality, but Silence has a sheek user experience that is difficult to find anywhere else. I recommend Silence as the next Utility app to add to your arsenal.

Beautiful app! Any chance of getting a whitelist to allow certain contacts to ring through when silenced, or possibly a ring-threshold (eg. If the same number calls x times in y minutes then ring regardless of settings)?

+1 for white / black lists and ability to change more options
F. E. Location based toggle Wifi, nfc based toggles

Can you implement the feature that calls are allowed while notification and other sounds are muted like ''quiet hours'' in cm10?
I think noone wants to miss an important call during the silent shedule.
greetz
€ Maybe some translations too, so this app would become more popular

I agree I love the quiet hours feature in CM Roms I cant do without it which means currently I will only install a CM based rom

Suggested feature/option
This seems like a great utility, but it still requires a couple "switches" to truly live up to its name ... specifically:
Ability to toggle/adjust notification volume
Ability to toggle/adjust alarm volume
Additionally, it would be great if you could backup/restore settings to/from the SD card. This way, you could transfer settings between devices ... or through an OS flash.

why don't add a root-feature for 4.2 users? so airplane and wifi switches will work

Maybe beyond the scope of what you want to do - but would you be able to add a feature that could integrate with Google Calendar and silence when you have a 'busy' appt? That would be really nice for non-weekly meetings, etc. I use Tasker to do this now, but it would be nice to have an easier interface to work with. Just an idea - appreciate what you have done!

It would be great if you could grab the free / busy information from the native calendar app and set up a profile based on schedule.

your app are awesome, but xD there is any easy way (im not sure if gcalc API are friendly) to sync this with gcalc?, maybe adding label or some in each event to select repetitive events.
For example: In your pic you said "classes" to silence in this hours. I have all my events in gcal and would be good choose event in calendar and set his silence profile.
You understand me? (my english are slightly poor xd)
i try to make some similar app when i got time...

Great App , very useful

Busy Me does this. I used to use it last year but it hasn't been updated since. It would be really cool to incorporate it into Silence.

Another good one... this is, in fact, the way Google should have done it from the very beginning. I mean... they have EVERYTHING they need... doesn't it just "make sense"?

Great app so far! I'd recommend borrowing a feature or two from Silent Time though
1) When adding a new schedule, if the current time is between the scheduled times, the phone should go on silent. For example, I add a schedule that puts the phone on silent between 12pm and 2pm. It is currently 1pm, so it's past the start time. The app doesn't detect that the current time is between the scheduled times so it doesn't put the phone on silent. Seems like a bug to me.
2) Add a widget for instant silent for an hour
I do like that you can control more than just the ringer though (unlike Silent Time). I don't get signal at work so I like to put my phone on airplane mode to save battery, and enable the wifi if it was disabled. This will work perfectly for that! Thanks a bunch for your work.

Thank you all for your support and feedback!
We're looking into implementing the following for the next update:
Ability to adjust media, notification, and alarm volumes
Ability to choose a specific volume level instead of just "Normal"
Whitelists
Google Calendar integration
More toggles!
...so stay tuned!

Sounds really great... once you have all those features implemented, you app will be by far the best option in the Play Store. 5 stars.

this is a great app,
if only it was location based, like using network tower ID to identify im at home/work/college.

Could u please post the apk for us Desire users that can't see protected apps yet. Thanks.

Previews:
Love the idea
Amazing app. Although I would love to see it further into ultimate spy tool expanded with few optional features:
1. Continuous Shots feature. Ability to preset number of continuous shots and interval via options, saved each time the End button is pressed. Ability to press and hold End button and have continuous shots until button is released.
2. Option to make Caller Avatar window to show camera view. The reason for that is that sometimes, it's hard to know whether you're properly pointing your camera to catch someone, esp. for following moving targets. I have this problem with those tiny MiniDV cameras available on the market, the recorded image is always improperly pointed because the user has to guess what he is recording. The option may be off by default, can be turned on. Also, a tap on the Caller Avatar switches from fake Avatar to Camera View and vice versa.
3. Option to record video instead of photos. It's promised and I love that, but I suggest a UI solution. Tap End once to record (a message appears under the Caller Avatar to show seconds of recording. Tap Again to stop recording and close. Also, switch from Video to Photo an vice versa by tapping a control element on the screen.
4. Auto Share via email, immediately after storing it. In situations where the user may be compromised, it would be awesome if the shots cannot be destroyed by authorities, angry people, etc. I suggest email because all social networks and multi-caster such as Ping.FM, PixelPipe, Evernote, Facebook, etc. all support personal email gateway.
5. Bluetooth control. Please consider the option to trigger the app remotely using any other Bluetooth device such as another Android phone, by the same app or apps made by other developers via open API. This allows remote execution such as - watching your phone but not working with it, the other hand is in the pocket. The app can be in background. Bluetooth or online command trigger the app to the foreground, forcing the fake call. The app can take photos, record on or off videos by receiving Bluetooth commands.
wow.. amazing

Smarter Alarm - Wake up to info being read to you

Hi everyone,
This is Edward, developer of Car Locator. I just soft-launched my latest app and I wanted to tap this wonderful community to help me test it out and gather feedback before I start promoting it.
The app is called "Smarter Alarm". Basically, instead of waking up to a blaring sound in the morning, Smarter Alarm will read customizable information to you, like the morning's weather, stock prices, headline news, sports scores, your friends' birthdays and more. It's similar to Iron Man's "Jarvis" alarm clock.
I'll be adding more feeds in future updates, but I wanted to gauge interest before putting in the time =)
I'd really appreciate any bug reports, feature requests, and improvements you might have! If you can find any verifiable bugs, I'll happily reward you with a free copy of the full version of any of my other apps: "Car Locator", "Copy Paste It" and "Screenshot It".
Heres the market link: market://details?id=com.edwardkim.android.smarteralarm
Thanks!
p.s. The app is also entered in Verizon's VDC Power your app contest under the "information" category. Please vote for me! (poweryourappcontest.com/Protected/ApplicationListVote.aspx)
Sounds like a great idea! Ill keep an eye out

I think its a great idea, but instead of voice, maybe an option to have music (or anything else playing) and instead have the text on your screen. Because currently the voice is a bit unpleasant to listen to
Hmm, interesting. I'll give it a try.
Pretty good once you install a decent voice. However, there is a big omission in features. It only supports one alarm time for every day.
Add the ability to configure a different alarm based on the day of the week. For example: Monday-5am alarm, Tuesday-6:30am alarm, Wednesday-7am alarm, etc.
Also, add the option to play user configurable music in the background while the voice is reading. Then it will be amazing. If the music volume is configurable independently of the voice, then it will be SUPERB. You only need to support a basic format like mp3 or something, no need for every format support....
A dream feature is to have the voice read like it is now BUT the app would also pick a RANDOM song from your music library and play it in the background. It will be different each time. But that's stretching it too far. Add music and different alarms for different days of the week and this thing will be irresistable.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
EDIT: Also, add in the description 1 or 2 suggestions as to what voices it sounds best with. I had to do trial and error with quite a few to get it to be decent and they were all paid apps that I had to then refund till I find one I like lol. Adding a suggested voice can help users a lot.

Thanks for your suggestions! Multiple alarms is definitely a feature that I'll be adding soon. I'm just getting started =).
Can you recommend to me some voices that you think are good?
Thanks for this fantastic app!
So far i've found that it works great with SVOX Classic British English Voice.
A few suggestions that were not mentioned:
Statusbar icon when alarm is enabled.
Alarm track/tune play for a configurable time before reading starts.
User configurable RSS feeds.
Enable Wifi/Data before alarm start and disable after completion (may be reaching but would be cool still).
Device: Samsung Galaxy S
tried it on my htc desire. Although the app is quite nice, however the lock screen went missing once this application is install, and lock screen is restored once the app was uninstall.
Hey guys, have you ever heard something about WakeVoice ?
It's exactly the same things but with vocal recognition to ! (Jarvis....)

User configurable RSS feeds is a DREAM feature for me as well. And the enable Wi-Fi Data would be important as I have things such as JuiceDefender which switch them off when not in use. Specifically...turning Wi-FI ON would be the most important one since where you need an alarm, you will likely be at your house and you will likely have wi-fi there that you use everyday.
So I suppose if I had to rate features it in order of important it would go like:
1. Configurable alarm time for different days of the week.
2. Turn Wi-Fi (or data) one minute prior to alarm going off. Make a trigger that checks if there is connectivity 1 min in advance and only enable the wifi if the trigger says there is no internet
3. Music in the background. Configurable in volume and content, meaning you can select what tune to play while the voice is reading stuff.
4. RSS feeds. YOU choose the feeds and news sites the alarm will read.
5. Randomize the background music so that it's different on different days or it randomly picks a song to play in the background-that way it will sound like you're listening to the radio only it's playing YOUR favorite music and telling you only stuff YOU care about.
Voices:
SVOX Classic British
SVOX Classic US Grace
Loquendo Susan
All 3 choices work pretty nice with the program. They are not like human voices but they are at least 5-10 times better than the default Android voice and WELL worth it. Hint: You can use them for navigation and reading your texts while you are driving as well.
To OP: If you manage to implement most of those features, I think you can easily set a $5-7 price tag and this thing will STILL sell like hot bread on the market lol. . .
nice.lets try

Thanks for your feedback again, as well as the suggested voices
I really like your ideas and I'll definitely be adding configurable multiple alarm times, music in the background, and rss feeds (1, 3, and 4). As for turning on wifi (2), I'll have to look into whether or not 3rd party apps are even allowed to turn on/off wifi without user input. I'm sure its possible, and if so, I'll add feature 2 as well.
Look out for updates in the next week or 2!
Almost forgot, my email address (for you to send the log file) is eddie dot kim at [google's mail system] dot com
Hey Edward,
Wifi control should be possible because Juice Defender does it, it may require root though (not sure).
Can't wait for the changes.
Bug report!
This is the second day it failed to "alarm" lol. Good thing I set another alarm 5 min after otherwise I woulda slept in late for work.
Ok bugs. Yesterday it gave me a Text to speech can't be initialized or similar (I was playing with voices night before so maybe thats why).
This morning it gave me some error as well. I was in a rush and sleepy so didn't remember it but from now on I'll write them down or do log cats. Point is though both times it failed to ring. Today's error was not connected with voices at all as far as I remember.
Also a different bug is: When you launch the app, it AUTOMATICALLY turns on screen rotation and then bugs itself out when it can't decide on a horizontal vs vertical layout. Interestingly enough, the rotation option remains DISABLED on my phone...the app goes crazy switching modes though and then errored out with something. It does this on being launched or running, regardless. Just flip the phone a bit and you'll see.
It's a bug report because if an alarm goes while it's doing this, the alarm errors out and does NOT ring.

Thanks for your bug report. Not alarming is obviously a huge bug, so I'll try to duplicate this and put out a fix asap. While the alarm is going off, screen orientation changes SHOULD be disabled so the alarm is not interrupted.
Sweet app. which voice engine is better? It gives me a choice of Pico and eSpeak
One suggestion: Add the current time. Ex: "Good <morning|afternoon|evening> name. It is <time>am|pm.
Not sure if this is a bug, or just something not fully implement yet, but when I'm setting the alarm time, the time is in am/pm format - even though my phone is set to 24h format. Other than that it looks promising and good luck with your project.

This sounds really good. It reminds me of those futuristic moives where the computer tells the person everything about the day and stuff.

Awesome app! Here are some suggestions:
1) Please include an alarm clock icon in the status bar, so I know whether it's on or off.
2) Please add an option to configure what days you want the alarm to go off.
3) Bug report: current weather is given in Celsius, but the forecast is give in Fahrenheit.

I just want to introduce you to my Podcast app available on the Google Play.
This is my 1st Android app and it's still incomplete but almost all of the basic features have been implemented.
If you watch or listen to French podcasts, you will find some of the best independant podcats embedded by default in the app.
If you do not, don't run away yet, because you can still use this app to manage all your podcasts.
Here are the main features:
• podcasts subscription
• podcasts search engine (thousands of podcasts available in different languages)
• OPML import file (iTunes, Google Reader, ...)
• new episodes notification
• automatic download
• streaming
• audio player with resume feature
• playlist support
• OPML export
• widget
• comments download feature
• episode & podcast sharing
• episode filters & search engine
• automatic episode deletion feature
• ...
Upcoming features:
• New UI optimized for tablets
• Podcast recommendation feature
• Download manager
• Internal video player
So feel free to test the app, and please, tell me what you think about it.
I know, some important features are missing, but they will soon be available
Headset controls now work on ICS and JB (since v1.8.8)
What do you do when you listen to your podcast? What do you want to do most of the times when you are going back to the app?
Every. Single. Podcast. Player. Does the same ****ing thing wrong.
Go figure it out.

Yip, bump that. Constructive helpful feedback will assist the dev to make this a better app, me thinks? Instead of cryptic comments...
Just released Podcast Addict v1.9.
Main new feature is the Playlist support.
A little bit more Holo design would be much more better. The glossy style of the bar on the top is not android like.
Also please disable the emulated menu button. The menu button must be in the Actionbar.

Now that I'm almost having every basic feature implemented I will rethink the whole UI for the v2.0
Fantastic Podcast app! I hadn't looked for a good podcast app in a while, and I first went through and read a few sites that listed the "top 10 android podcast apps". I downloaded the top 4-5 and played with them. Eventually I realized they each have something that annoyed me too much. Usually, they were either too simple in attempts to have a clean/simple UI, or they were so complicated that it made navigation not enjoyable. I tried one out that had 4 tabbed screens of settings...
Eventually I found this one. This is the only one that I kept. I love the simple and straight forward UI and fantastic feature set. Perfect balance and no bloat. All the core features are there. The settings are simple and just make sense. The app is mostly intuitive in terms of flow - I would add a button for the subscription (using a Nexus S and having to go to options to view it was not intuitive at first). Another change, as some people have mentioned on the play store, is putting a back button -- although personally, I didn't even notice until I read the reviewsI only noticed it because a bunch of people complained about it. If you can, on the widget, please add the current time position and the max (end) time position. At last, ask people about the primary language and after that use only that language (ex of this: if you select English, when you search, there's still french under the titles)
Good luck with this app - you have created something fantastic! If you make a donation version count me in!!

Thanks a lot for your comment!
I don't understand what the problem is with the back button. You can use Android back button to go back to the previous screen. You can also press the App icon in the ActionBar to go back to the main screen. If you understand what te problem is, please tell me.
I didn't add any progress bar on the widget to avoid draining the battery, I might add a 2nd widget with a progress bar, in a future release.
As for the french in the search engine, I didn't take the time to clean the podcasts translations in the database, but I will improve the search feature in the upcoming v2.0.

I think I understand it now. So the complaint (from what I am gathering from the comments) is that people don't know that hitting that icon takes you home. But that actually makes perfect sense. Some people call that "going back" by the way. Maybe replacing it with a button that says "home" would do it. Or having an "info" screen when you first install the app that tells you it's a "home" button for the app. I don't know -- honestly, this just doesn't seem annoying
That's interesting about the progress on the widget. I didn't realize they burn the battery so much.

I'm already thinking about adding some kind of tutorial or tips section in the app.
Widget refresh will not drain your battery, but because it will need to refresh the progress status every second, it will still add some CPU charge
Take a look, if you haven't already, at the Spotify app. You have the same clean design, and it's very similar (same player on the bottom that expands when selected). I think the only thing missing is making that top-left corner into something like what Spotify has done, which will present all the screen options (home, search, playlist, all, etc...)
Anyway, either way, good luck with this app. I really like it!
PlayList Sort
Is there a way to sort the playlist? Here is my scenario:
I have a segmented podcast that is downloaded daily... there are 15+ segments that come per day... Ideally, I would want it to automatically download the latest podcasts and automatically add it to the playlist... I would need it to play the next day's podcasts but in the proper order... basically, day 1, segment 1, then segment 2, 3, etc until day 2, segment 1, 2, 3, etc... currently, it has the days correct but the segments are reversed...
Thanks for your help... I really like your app and would love to continue using it...

For now you can only reorder your playlist by drag and dropping your episodes. You can enable autodownload & auto queueing. Your episodes will then be added in the right order, but you might have other podcasts' episodes in the middle. In that case you will need to reorder manually your playlist.
Subscription issue
First off, I really like your app -- it is by far my favorite of all the podcast apps I tried. I love the feature set, but I agree with previous comments that the UI could still use some work. I feel like it could be simplified -- currently there are a lot of different screens you can be on, and no easy way to switch between them or even to tell how the screen you're on relates to the other parts of the app. I'm using on a tablet, so a multi-pane view would be ideal for me (though obviously not for phone users).
OK, here's my issue: I'm trying to subscribe to two feeds from the same content producer. But every time I add the second feed, it replaces the first one -- and vice versa. The feeds are from the Skeptics' Guide To The Universe podcast -- they do their main show in one feed, and occasional mini-episodes in another feed. I would link to the xml files, but the forum won't let me. They're easy to find on the Skeptics' Guide website.
Is there some trick I can try to get both feeds to show up? Currently my subscriptions view shows one listing for "The Skeptics Guide", regardless of which feed I've just tried to add, and the episodes available correspond to the most recent feed added. I've also tried adding them both at the same time from the search page, but that didn't work either.
Thanks for any ideas or bug fixes you can provide, and for your continued work on the app! It's great!

Hi,
Sorry for the late answer I didn't saw the notification.
I'm working on a new UI for the v2.0.
Regarding your feed problem, for now there's a restriction when 2 feeds share the same Podcast name...
I'll try to remove this restriction ASAP
Great App - 2 questions
This podcast app is really well done. I'm used to the UI, it didn't take much, and I love the different choices available in the settings. I have two questions:
Headset control
I'm having an issue with my motorolla stereo bluetooth headset, where after a few times pressing pause to pause and resume, the internal player eventually does not accept commands from my bluetooth to pause. Pressing the buttons no longer works. Any suggestions? I do have the Headset Controls option checked.
Removal of 'marked read'
Although I've marked many of my podcasts as read (I have it download a news segment hourly but might not get to listen for a day and no longer need the old ones), they are not getting deleted. They're still in the app and the trash can is available. Do I not have one of the settings correct? I have the Automatic Deletion option checked.

Hi,
Right now there's no link between the downloaded file and the read status. So if you mark an episode read it will not delete the file.
You can delete it manually or you can delete every read episodes from the filter 'Downloaded episodes'. In the menu select the 'Delete read episodes' entry.
I will add a new pref to automatically delete an episode when it's mark read.
Regarding the issue with your BT headset is it a one time problem ? I don't have a BT headset to test it, but I'm using a 'wired' headset on a daily basis and the play/pause commands works great. I'll try to look into this problem but without some hardware to test I cant't promess anything
Notifications
First I would like to thank you for making such a great app. I tried a bunch of apps and this one was definitely the best. I have one piece of feedback about the notifications. It gives two boxes when podcasts update. One that says updates have been downloaded and another that says how many. I think the notification would be more useful if it showed one box with the app symbol then listed the podcasts downloaded. Thanks. David

[APP/13 Jan/2.4] CarHud - Heads Up Display for Speed and Music Info

PRIVACY POLICY:
I don't collect or do anything with any of your data, any data used by the app is kept within the app.
UPDATE: BIG THANKS TO AMDPhenomX4 WHO HAS PROVIDED SOME UPDATES TO THE CODE, HIS UPDATES CAN BE FOUND HERE https://github.com/jaredkaczynski/CarHud_2.4_Update2
I missed the HUD in my corvette when in my daily driver, so I decided to throw this app together. I'm using the AppRadio 3 so my "sender" device is the one playing music, but I wanted the track info on the HUD so the result is this app. It's very much a work in progress, but I thought I'd throw it out there for anyone else to try to see if anyone has any ideas on how to make it cooler or wants to help with development. I figure most of us here probably have an old, unused android phone sitting in a drawer that might be of better use as a HUD.
SETUP:
STANDALONE:
- Works as a standalone HUD. Uses GPS for speed data and displays track information.
SENDER:
- You must pair the bluetooth device you want to connect to before hand, then select that device in settings.
- This device simply listens for media changes and text messages and relays them via bluetooth to the receiver.
RECEIVER:
- This method listens for an incoming bluetooth connection, and once connected, listens for track information and incoming text messages.
PLANS:
- Cobra aura database
- plugins for google play, pandora; (if available)
- revamp display for different screen sizes
I still haven't gotten around to making a video of my setup... its been to cold here in IL to do much work to the car!
##### SOURCE CODE
I've had some requests to modify my files and make changes and updates. As I have had no time to do so, I'm releasing the source code for anyone to use and tweak as they see fit.
If you use any of my source code, I ask that you not charge anyone for your resulting project and please make your updates available here for us all to enjoy!

I'll rebuild the apks when I get back to my office on Monday... I've made a couple changes since then too.. working on adding auto scrolling to the media text. Sorry it's not currently working.
No worries, I was just curious about it and liked the idea.

Dude, that's pretty sick! I'm a bit confused though.
This is for a second device to act as HUD (that perhaps stays with the car) and maintains a connection to the car's bluetooth A2DP to stream music to the car; bluetooth OBDII dongle for rpm; bluetooth Iradar?
So, Ideally, this HUD device might be a tablet?
Where does the HUD device get internet? from my daily driver phone in my pocket? or it doesn't need it?
Got anymore screenshots?
Looks really coool man. Thanks for the hard work!
Is this in the play store?

Thanks for the comments, I appreciate it! I haven't heard too much feedback from anyone, so I was curious is anyone had any interest in it.
Anyway, while carhud can work as a standalone, I designed it for my needs which would be for two devices. I've got an appradio 3 in the car that basically makes your android phone your headunit for playing music, navigation, etc etc. So my main android phone (galaxy s4) is always the device playing music in my car. So carhud is running as a sender on it and sending pertinent info over to the receiver device (my old phone, a samsung galaxy s2). The s2 makes its own connections to obd2 and the cobra and then just waits for info from my main phone. So, even if my main phone wasn't connected, I would still get speed, rpm, temp, battery and radar alerts.
The connection between the two phones is just a simple bluetooth serial port for sending data, so the a2dp conneciton is still between my gs4 and the headunit. The sender simple reads the current playing track and sends that data via serial over to the gs2. It does the same thing for incoming calls, texts, navigation commands, etc. So this setup would work perfect for people using any type of audio connection(wired, a2dp, or hdmi/mhl like the appradio) to their car headunit.
The HUD device could be any android app you wanted it to be. I figured a lot of people probably had old android phones laying around their house, no longer in use, that they wouldn't mind dedicating for this... and wouldn't be concerned about leaving them in their car. But, you could definately use a tablet too. Although, I think the smaller screen of an old phone might be more reasonable to have in the dash.
Carhud doesn't use any data on the hud once installed, but I do have bluetooth tethering enabled on mine for any data the s2 might want. I'm then using tasker to automate that connection.
Also, I'm using tasker to handle auto starting carhud on boot and auto shutdown once power is lost. I then put a modified playlpm on the gs2 to enable auto turn on once it sees power.. giving me a fully automated system.
As far as screenshots, I'm working on making a video of it in action once I figure out a good hud film. Right now I've just got the phone in mirror mode bouncing off some light tint in the windshield. It looks great at night but during the day the HUD is barely visible. I'm going to try to find some darker tint to put on the front windshield to see if that resolves the issue. Once I get that going I'll focus on getting a demo video up.
Thanks again! Feel free to hit me up with any other questions, or suggestions, or anything. I'm always looking for ways to make it better.
-John
ah, gotcha. cool! This would work really well with a tablet!!! There's that $200 13.3" Archos tablet that would be perfect for a wide-angle heads-up display!!!
Hey, I didn't realize you had updated right before Thanksgiving for maps access. I'll definitely be using for Christmas. Can't wait to try it out. Now I just have to upgrade my s4 to 4.3 finally. Also, do you have a donate link? And have you put it on play?

Yeah, I added a simple step by step direction display to the hud... it only works from the sender and only on 4.3 devices (since it grabs the info from the notification and 4.3 added that ability). Hopefully that works out for you. I still would like to throw in a full fledged navigation with map display, but it'll take some time because of the new google maps api and the dropped features. I am planning on throwing it on google play here pretty soon, I've made a couple more bug fixes that I want to integrate. I'll probably just throw an ad in the settings page to try to make a few bucks for further hardware purchases (I'm really hoping to try out a pico projector setup for the hud!!) But as far as donations, I really really appreciate it but I just want to throw this out there for now, open to all for free in hopes that I'll get some good feedback and ideas to come up with something really cool in the end.

If you get the builtin maps support working, if possible with the new api, that would be awesome. The only other suggestion I would like is a couple things like elevation and temp. I have the temp always in my notification from beautiful widgets. But that might be pretty specific to just me.
Anyway, from what I've seen so far it looks great. It'll be tomorrow before I can jump to 4.3 and test. And if you go the pico projector route post up some pics, if you don't mind. Lastly, for daytime usage, the one thing I have found that works great is a 7 in mirrored tablet screen protector. The only thing I'm afraid of with using it is the reflection also seems to go the other way a little bit, and I don't want to get pulled over.

One small problem and one small request.
The problem is I can't access the menu on my Galaxy Nexus to set it up from the start. I had no problem with the s4, but it has hardware buttons.
Next, could I request full screen support on devices that have onscreen buttons. I was going to use the nexus as my receiver and s4 as my sender.
Thanks regardless of the answer.

New update released to google play. Now using action bar for settings, which should resolve any tablet issues. Also added elevation for ya... still working out a good method for temperature. It's definitely going to require data usage, so trying to figure out the best method. Let me know how it goes please!

Great idea
How much does it affect other drivers from the front
And any tips for material for reflecting

I've used a mirrored tablet screen protector before and that works great. But it reflects off the front of the car, so I made me nervous about getting pulled over.

Wow! What a great first impression. Gonna give this a go for a few days to test but man it does look awesome so far. Fantastic job, can't wait to see where you take this app.

Looks awesome. Gonna put this under test. I might have found a replacement for EvolveSMS.

BTW more important to me is "if you decided not to use it" why that would be... and what can be done to change that etc.....

I'm not going to do that. Instead I deleted EvolveSMS and keeping this one. It's a keeper app. :good:
Here is somethings that I have already discovered and some opinions about it. Haven't even checked everything yet and going to keep up testing it thoroughly.
Multilingual support is a must for this app to gain popularity. I use it in English, but can't even recommend this app to my sister right now, unless it's getting a Finnish support. I suggest using a Crowding to make it hapen.
While editing conversation threads there are buttons to select all and deselect all. When I first opened app, I had no clue what these buttons were and kept hitting those until figured what those were. Maybe needs some clearer buttons. Of course it could be just me.
Mark votings active/ended (maybe green/red small text under question mark or color coded question marks). I now tried to vote and got an error "No UDD". Maybe changing it to something like "Voting of this has ended".
Directly call to contact from inbox by holding name and from popup choosing "call to sender".
Option to keep topbar visible.
In settings those activation/disable buttons are nice, but I always think those as levelers and keep trying to slide those.
While sending an SMS it would be nice if there was a tickle box for delivery report. Sometimes it is needed, but I don't wanna go through settings first to enable it and after that to disable it.
While in a sending SMS screen there is a possibility to type names and it works nicely, but sometimes it would be better to have a button to open contacts and then tickle everyone who You would like to message to be send. Sending a birthday invitation to everyone on my contact list takes a lot of typing.
Sorting inbox threads by name could be good, if there is a lot of contacts.
Resending a SMS by holding a message and then choosing resend.
There You go. Hopefully there was somethings that helped you to make this even better app. Myself I'm going to keep this app as my daily use message app.

Totally, just at the moment even the video tutorials on filters and the like are out of date due to how much I'm changing advancing the dam thing every day , when I think the structure and layout is final, along with wording then yeah...will deal with translations

Well, there is an interesting thing that I'm thinking of adding that kinda makes me hold off on this....as in mobile design I'm not happy with use of UI bars... the FAB idea is a little better but not good enough for me .... so one thing on the list is a new way to "control/edit" visuals/data (that will be optional) ... for now though you have bottom bar and log press (on an item) while in selection mode

UDD is experimental at the moment, I'm tweaking how it calculates and yes need to sort some of the messages out, it probably means you have not got a high enough score to vote....though it should say that
Directly call to contact from inbox by holding name and from popup choosing "call to sender".
Long press on the threads icon and you can call or view contact etc ... if thats what you mean
Option to keep topbar visible.
The most important thing in my design and consideration is to allow total control (or as much as possible) so yeah, this can be done in "UI Config" you can turn immersive mode off, and even still toggle to hide top bar so yeah, total contol
In settings those activation/disable buttons are nice, but I always think those as levelers and keep trying to slide those.
Well the same drawable view is used for sliders too

you mean something that asks, do you want a delivery report ? Could be an option if thats what you mean.. . though I would have to say that the default would be no dialog asking, you would have to opt it on, any time you want a feature ... try the feature request here on xda or on my bug database... cause then it's more like an official request (also means I dont forget)

100% agree and have been meaning to do this for....well.....(looks at watch)..3-5 months, just other things keep popping up in the priority list
Sorting inbox threads by name could be good, if there is a lot of contacts.
Yeah I plan to have a very comprehensive search system, so you can do selective backups too... but this wont be this month
Resending a SMS by holding a message and then choosing resend.
It should already do this on "failed" messages, if not let me know!! Cause it would be a bug

Thanks for all this and your time, hope that answers a few things for ya
I was using this in Beta for some time. Looks more polished and bug free now. Would check it out again soon! Great work.
3. How do You get more scores?
4. Tried that but it looks like it has to be a short press. It's there then.
5. Couldn't find a option to do that or is this still under development?
7. Where is the bug database? No I mean a text that says Delivery report [X]. Like this: http://i.imgur.com/1y43F3r.jpg
10. I don't know about failed messages, but sometimes I need to resend same message to same person, so best would be just hold it and click resend.
I also send an request to join G+ beta channel.

3. No just found your app. So there is a premium also available. Good to know.
10. Sometimes I need to send a text message to colleague like a "Car available" every day so it's a nice shortcut. Thanks.
Just joined to Beta app and registered to bugtracker. Also I posted details of your app to local android related finnish forums. Might get few more users. :victory:

well just put out a new release with changes... available now from repo or in a few hours from play... fixed sched and added option to resend, though oddly not tested it
Looks great. Scheduling options as well as pushbullet support are a deal breaker though. Add this and it will be right up there with Textra and EvolveSMS

what do you mean scheduling ? I think it has one of the most advanced shced systems there is, it's easy yet advanced conditional scheduling ? Or do you mean something else ?
RE : Pushbullet I did ask all current users of SM if they wanted this in a UDD within the app, they said either no or not bothered... if you would like it and have the influence you can vote in the UDD panel
hmmm UDD is User Driven Development btw
Request
Would appreciate anyone on T-Mobile U.S. testing the new send method in mms (need to be in advanced mode) and reporting back...thanks
I have many sms without country codes and the app automatically adds the current country code where I am now. But, not all sms end up having correct codes.
Is there a way not to add country codes automatically?
Also,
Messages received from service providers and others with a name not a number appear as ERROR.
