im running PA 2.5 on my p6200, and a third party app is needed for wifi tether. i've installed this from the play store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlecode.android.wifi.tether&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5nb29nbGVjb2RlLmFuZHJvaWQud2lmaS50ZXRoZXIiXQ.. and it works as an ad hoc network. But i need it to run as infrastructure mode so my other android devices can see the SSID. Anyone know how to configure the app as infrastructure mode that works on the p6200? Been trying various configurations to no avail

Had been using aNetShare on my rooted HTC Hero to setup wifi hotspots and has worked fine with laptops etc.. but seems the transformer cant see it - I guess its because its an ad-hoc network and not supported ?
Just wondering if anyone can recommend an app I can run off my phone that does work using somthing other than an ad-hoc network - or is this not possible ?
Many Thanks !!!
This prob wont help but the personal wifi hotspot option in android 2.2 works fine but android tether or barnicle don't seem to work.
Doesn't PdaNet support bluetooth tethering? Is that an option for tethering the Transformer?
Has anyone gotten wireless tether to work? I know the built-in hotspot is free for another month or so, but I'm looking beyond that.

i havent, i've been trying to figure out a way to make the built-in one free.
i have tired similar methods to the ones for the samsung fascinate

and
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942405&highlight=hotspot
no luck with either
I haven't tried it yet, but wouldn't the Barnacle Wifi Tether app work now that we can rollback and re-root?
code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether works perfectly if you're rooted.
Mine works fine
Yeah it definitely doesn't work for me. It also shows up as an ad-hoc connection in my available networks. From what I remember with my Evo, it showed up as a normal wifi network? What does it show as for you guys?

Wifitether only sets up ad-hoc unless the kernel was modified such in some builds i found of EVO and Droid Incredible. If you want infrastructure mode instead of ad-hoc you need to use the built in wifithether

Oh man, if you could get the built in one to work forever and have a few extra options, like channel, authentication, etc, that would be awesome. I realize the other wifi tether kinda works, but the stock one seems to be really stable.
How does the wifi hotspot check to see if it is still free?
Because I tried running Droid Wall and nothing showed up in the log.
Anyone having luck tethering to through the Wii? it works fine on my computer but the Wii says it cannot locate a signal...???
bump...anyone have an answer to my wii question.?
I don't have a Wii, but my 360 pairs up just fine to the wifi signal from my charge.
are you using wireless tether or the stock hotspot?

You cant use WifiTether app on your Wii. Many devices such as Ps3, zune, wii and even all android devices are unable to see ad hoc connections which are the kind of networks that app creates. If you were to use the built in Mobile hotspot app you wouldnt have any problems locating the signal.
It worked fine with my thunderbolt?

I just rooted my phone using ODIN to downgrade to ED1. Once that was all said and done and I rebooted, the phone, I put it in airplane mode, and connected to my wireless network via WiFi. Then I went into the market, and searched for Wireless Tether for Root. I downloaded that, along with SuperUser Permissions. Once you have both of those downloaded, Wireless Tether worked just fine for me.
NOTE: At first, I forgot to download SuperUser, and when I tried to use Wireless Tether, it would fail and pop-up with a message asking if my phone was rooted. Then I remembered I needed SuperUser. Problem fixed!
Yeah same as what everyone else is saying - the built in mobile hotspot works great and used inf mode but they will start charging for it on the 15th? - After rooting and installing SU the wifi tether for root works however it uses ad-hoc.
Is there a way to go into the EPST settings and edit the DUN NAI string like I could on my previous Verizon phone?
Edit: Found this while googling. Wouldn't this same method work on the Charge? It's basically the same phone in some ways. forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818789
Edit Again: Or maybe not... I haven't picked up my phone yet, but I guess the Charge isn't using a Qualcomm chip.
I found the wireless tether application to be unstable. I tried Barnacle and it seems to work well for me. It is also an ad hoc connection and it too requires root.
I can't even get the stock tethering app to work, it closes as soon as I open it
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA App
Hi guys,
installed wifi tether from google code.
it worked, however, noticed a couple things.
1. After turning off wifi tether, I'm still able to detect the adhoc wireless network. (Concerned about battery drain)
2. When having the wifi tether running, it isn't an access point, but an ad hoc network.
Anyone else having these issues? Known issues?
same here
I'm having the same issue basically. My laptop sees the "Androidtether" but it wont connect. It did the same thing with usb tethering too.
Installed Pdanet and it works off and on. I'm in a 4g city...frustrating that I can't get those sweet speeds over to my computer! haha
I am having same issue..anyone have any ideas? I wish it came up as a reg wireless connection instead of the ad hoc network....the stock wifi hotspot comes up correctly

Technically, the SamChg stock WiFi Hotspot is coming up incorrectly as an Infrastructure connection, and the android-wifi-tether app is coming up correctly as an "Ad-Hoc" connection.
It's just not "convenient" for us that the Google android-wifi-tether app only comes up in ad-hoc mode.
From Wikipedia: A wireless ad hoc network is a decentralized type of wireless network. The network is ad hoc because it does not rely on a preexisting infrastructure, such as routers in wired networks or access points in managed (infrastructure) wireless networks.
Personally, I can't think of anything more "decentralized" than a mobile phone.
As far as I know, the latest version found here (3.0-pre14) works, and it has infrastructure mode. Just use the Samsung Fascinate option when setting (Device-Profile) it up and it should work.
wow thanks..that worked beautifully...appreciate it
Was using foxfi to tether my t101 to my phone but recently my carrier has managed to block any traffic to a foxfi tethered device. Barnacle still works for non android devices. I'm rooted and updated to the latest ics. In wifi settings I can see the hotspot but when I try to connect it just says saved and never obtains an IP address. I'm hoping one of the custom roms (preferably ics) has ad hoc capabilities built in?
ICS and ad hoc? No way, afaik.
You can try the wpa_supplicant mod. Not sure if it work for the latest ICS update but it's worth a try
Also doesn't Barnacle have a bluetooth option?
Let me see if I can find the post, if not just search wpa_supplicant

I've been trying the wpa_supplicant2 unsuccessfully. It gets stuck at turning on wifi. I believe the latest update may require a developers mod to make it work again.
Barnacle doesn't have Bluetooth capabilities.
SOLVED!
I've been working on this for hours but it's so easy. I flashed revolver HD on it but I don't think that's necessary. Using barnacle on the phone just turn on wpa encryption. On the tablet when I told it to connect it asked for the key. I entered it and instead of just instantly saying saved it said obtaining ip address and then connected! Everything works. Browser, email, Pandora, Netflix, Speed test etc.
Can anyone point me to a good, preferably free solution to wifi tethering? As of now, this phone has root but no custom roms, so it looks like wifi tethering outside of Boost hotspot with its monthly fee will have to be provided in an app.
If anyone finds this question in a search, what seems to be working for me so far is wifi tether router.

A trick i found to get free usb tethering is download and install pdanet on youre laptop computer then use pdanet app.. i had to change the vpn to the 2nd option in the list in advanced settings of pdanet desktop app to get my internet connection to turn on.. but i got free uab tethering to my laptop..
I used the Galaxy tools app, it was only one click and hotspot was working instantly, all I did was click on enable native hotspot and try method two option in app, no reboot was even needed, I searched google for the app, it also has a lot of other useful features
the app listed me as not rooted but root access was granted and everything work in the app
Any update on this? I need tethering for my chromebook and usb tethering wont work with foxfi as I cant install it on chrome. I try other USB tether apps and my phone doesn't have USB tethering options apparently. I have already tried rooting the phone and editing the build.prop to insert "net.tethering.noprovisioning=true" and that will get me past the first hotspot error, but once the connected device tries to connect to the internet it throws the hotspot error at me.
I have the Virgin Mobile J7 2016 SM-j700p
Any help would greatly be appreciated
