can i install roms the same way i do on the tmoble gs2 - Samsung Infuse 4G

so im now trying to flash liquid jb to my friends samsung infuse. i am familiar with flashing the tmobile gs2 as i have one. can i just load cwm onto the infuse 4g and load the zip file for the rom through cwm just like i do for the tmobile gs2? if not how do i flash a rom. i have been reading the sticky in the q/a section but find it pretty confusing.

The process is the same. If the Infuse is on GB, you have to go to ICS, then to JB.

Most of the threads for the ROMs have detailed instructions. Cwm is the same but follow the instructions in the op of the ROM you are using.

The easiest way, is to use qkster one click. It will flash stock. Then you do it again with gingerbread boot loaders (if it needs them)
Link
Then in his thread you download entropys cwm one click flash. Then you flash cm9 then cm10
Cm7 is the smoothest and fastest. But doesn't have all the features. (Flash first and only if this is what you want)
Cm9 has a ton of features but is slow. Cm10 is just right. Especially 4.2 it doesn't have all of cm features yet due to 4.2 being new.
This method will not wipe pictures or music. But always back up to be safe.

Darkys ROM is for the i9000 and not the Infuse.
It cannot be used without LinuxBozo's Hellraiser package, and Hellraiser only works for manual installations with red CWM (or "orange" CWM if you're coming from a CM7 install).
Search the i9000 forums, not ROM Manager. In fact - ditch ROM Manager and learn how to manually flash from CWM. The majority of developers here have a significant dislike for ROM Manager ("green" CWM results in WAY too many bad flashes), so if you insist on only using ROMs available through it, you'll be limited to very few ROMs (none at the moment in fact).

Many ICS roms are pretty stable and practically everything works.
I would suggest you look into uni-yuma-porn and remICS-UX .. those are my faves.
CM10 is absolutely amazing of course.. you can't beat the jelly beans
Gps works althought it causes a bit of lag when used, which would be a problem if you use it often. It's up to you really, what best fits your personal use

For a rock solid GB Rom you can't go wrong with Emancipation. ICS Yuma-uni-Porn is nice. Both have solid working BT/GPS/Wi-fi

I don't think it matters...but don't hold me to that one issue you may have come across is rainbow recovery (discoloration or static like lines) which indicates you need GB boot loaders. But since you got official GB through Samsung Kies you should already have them (that's how I got mine)...Buuttttt!! Do you have root?

My last phone was rooted ( on froyo from super one click ) but ive been reading that doesnt work well with gb. Any tips on easy rooter?

Try the method here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1081072
If that and superoneclick don't work for you, you may have to flash a pack through Odin that will give you root + cwm

Thanks. Could you provide links for getting the ROMS you recommend? When I go to the Cyanogen site, for example, they don't list the Infuse as a supported phone. So which one do you use to get the CM10?
Looking at the uni-yuma-porn it says to flash the Rom, then flash the GAPPS, but no clue on what GAPPS is or how to flash it.
You won't find it up in the cyanogenmod site. Our phone is not supported officially by them, but it has been developed unofficially. It works just as well as those official devices since it is build from the same repo.
All roms I mentioned are found right here on xda under infuse android development.
Gapps stands for google apps which includes the play store and many other apps such as the setup when you first boot your phone. They are often linked in every Rom that requires you flash them.

I believe the "flash gapps" is just the OP not updated. The early builds of uniporn the gapps had to be flashed separately but I believe they are included now

Just checking up on what everything is.
1. Cyanogen is an android custom firmware. -
2. aokp is an android custom rom base
3. porting simply changing the coding to fit from a similiar device to another
4. All the gb/ics/jb custom.roms.mainly run off altered and tailored versions of these 2.
5. odin used to flash and get a recovery in case of bricking.
6. clockworkmod (cwm) similar used for recovery.
So in essence from base of cyan firmware and aokp rom people make alterations and build platforms ex changing kernels, drivers, and cosmetics.
Hummm.... Believe im getting it..correct me if im wrong

Last time just tried MIUI and I can´t get the UI of ICS, Don´t remember what kind of version tired of MIUI though
Roms with aroma installers give you more options for you to customize the installation. Some frequent options are Gapps, kernels, additional apps and whatever the Chef decides to include.

SGH-I727R Kernal flashing for stock rogers ics

Hey everyone,
New to the crew, and blown away by how helpful and knowledgable this community's members are. Hopefully I get smart soon so I can contribute!
Q: If i'm running stock ICS 4.0.4 on the canadian skyrocket, am I able to flash a custom kernal that allows for changing boot animations, cpu control, and various other tweaks, and how would one flash only the kernel and not the rom? I think i'm one of the few people who doesn't completely abhor the tw interface.
Thanks in advance,
Rob
Sent from my SGH-I727R using xda premium
Yeah. Flash cwm with Odin, put su on sd card, use cwm to flash su. Then you are rooted. Wipe cache and dalvik cache, then flash the kernel in cwm.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
Thanks for the reply! I should have mentioned that i'm rooted and have the latest cwm touch installed already. I guess a better question would be which kernal would be recommended in this case?

you just need to find a kernel that is ics compatible, download it to your sd card, boot into cwm, clear the cache and dalvik cache, then nav to the kernel zip and flash it. I would suggest taking a look at a couple of vincoms stickies for noobs a the top of the skyro dev forum, theyre a wealth of knowledge for us new guys.

Any ics kernel. Depends if you want bln, oc, uv. If you want those use mohans cymbaline, it's the only one we have with those options. The other kernels will allow uc and boot animation support, the basics.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
thank you! I went ahead and educated myself on the matter, and am really enjoying mohans embryo 4.1 with the cymbaline kernel. Its touchwiz base probably helps the phones stability, and the s3 features are pretty neat. I also recommend the build.prop tweaks linked from embryo's dev page.

I want to upgrade from GB to JB slim bean, best path?

I am having to ordin with pit, to unbrick my infuse again. I'll be starting from stock GB rooted with gingerbread boot loader. What ICS Rom do I need to flash to keep my imei and provide a stable stepping stone to flash slim bean 2.6, or 2.7 so I won't lose my imei and have to go backwards again?
Thanks mike
Sent from my X10a using xda app-developers app
You should be able to use any of the ICS ROMs. Use CM9, then follow the OP instructions for Slim Bean.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1874000
Instructions at Slim Bean state:
Upgrading Slim Bean
Just wipe cache/dalvik cache and flash files in order (Device file first, then Slim Gapps) unless I specify in the changelog
From Froyo/GB Rom to SlimBean
Get yourself booted with cm9 or cm10. then follow the steps "From another JB or ICS ROM"
I remember mg saying that a small % of people lost imei regardless of following instructions exactly or not. Also someone said somewhere that flashing cm10 restored there imei.
of course I've also been jacked up on pain medication this week so I could be wrong. But I'm 95% sure I didn't hallucinate those statements.

[Q] Gingerbread to Jelly bean?

I just updated my infuse to gingerbread yesterday and i just wanted to know is it safe to flash jelly bean without ics??
You have to flash ICS in order to get to Jelly Bean. I think it has to do with getting the blue CWM, or a part of it.
Sent from my SGH-I997
Yup as stated above. Have to flash ICS the BOOT into it. Then go back to recovery and flash JB. Make sure you get the right gapps package also. I made the mistake of grabbing the wrong one. Had to reflash the correct one.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
Even when I read that I didn't have to, I had to. I wasn't able to just flash the ICS kernel. I actually had to make sure an ICS ROM was up and running completely 3 different times before the JB upgrade took fully. JB is just a completely different animal.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using Tapatalk 2
Funny but the thread that was right above this when I looked is the one you should read.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1878458
you can get to jelly bean without ics from gb . do all ur wiping processes of course. then flash jellybean zip of your choice it will hang on kernel screen. pull battery then three button back to cwm it should be blue now. reflash jelly bean rom again and there ya go.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium
I never really got the GB to ICS to JB... I used the ICS way once, and every other time I just used mind of Mac to paranoid android and everything except for Google search works fine. I just have horrible battery life
