Touchscreen doesn't work for first few seconds - HTC Sensation

This was one of the similar threads found, but it didn't give me a solution. I messed around with the different CPU governor's but none of them solve my problem. When I unlock the phone, it doesn't respond well to my touch for a few seconds. I'm using CM10 and I've never had this problem before. It only came up recently when I replaced my lcd and digitizer because I was having touchscreen problems. Now the problems are mostly gone except at the lock screen. I've tried 3 different roms (one was a Sense 3.6 rom) and they all had this problem. Outside of the lock screen, it mostly worked well except inside the "phone app" in the sense rom. I called someone and they didn't hear it ringing, so it went to voicemail. I didn't want to record a message so I pressed end call like 30 times but it didn't work until i took out the battery. It happens in CM10 too, but its not as bad, usually ends the call after the 3rd or 4th time.
To troubleshoot the problem, I turned on "Show touches-show visual feedback for touches" under Developer options. I also made this video so you guys can see what it looks like.

Take a look at this thread, maybe it helps. I would say update your firmware to 3.33, and try cleaning and pulling out the gray pin on the back of the phone. Hope it helps

Did you replace the digitizer yourself? If yes, I'd go back and make sure nothing is wrong. Make sure everything is properly put back together. Hope this helps. best wishes.

I did replace it myself and I think that's probably the problem but my dad is refusing to help me take it apart again. We're going to go to a cell phone repair store to see if they can give us some advice, then he'll probably agree to open it up again and see what's going on.

It looks like you've opened 2 treads for the same problem, so here's what I answered you earlier - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34955821&postcount=3

Ah yes, I made some new discoveries since then and I forgot to check on that thread so I ended up making a new one. The digitizer/lcd I bought is supposedly new, and it's the one that says HTC in the middle (no T-Mobile logo on the side) I'm updating Cyanogen Mod to the newest version and flashing new firmware, so if that doesn't fix it then that'll rule out software issues. After that, I'll re-install the lcd/digitizer and see if I can get it to work.
Also, you said "when you change displays it's never the same as the original" I've been looking through hundreds of forums and many people have successfully replaced their screen only for the problem to come back again a few weeks later. I'm thinking it has something to do with static buildup caused by third-party batteries or chargers, as seen in this thread that i forgot to mention. I've changed my charger so all that remains is taking apart the screen again.

Thanks to dennis8, my screen is now fixed. He linked me to this thread and it worked right away after that. Finally my freaking phone works :laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Camera/Camcorder doesn't work

Not sure what has changed but recently my camera/camcorder doesn't work. The screen is just black. Doesn't do anything. If I press home the phone goes back to home screen. Any ideas? What should I do.
I had this issue happen to me about 2 weeks after having purchased my inspire. Luckily I was within the 30 day warranty and got a new phone that same day.
When it happened, I didn't even bother to reset the phone or troubleshoot the issue. You might want to try that. But, if you're within the 30 days, head to an ATT store and show them the problem.

Well, if it worked before, and all of the sudden it doesn't, you should probably make sure there's no chance it was something you did, before going through the hassle of a return.
First thing to do is start checking apps installed, and services running.
Roms flashed? One or two had known issues with camera preview not showing.
Does the camera actually still take the picture, even though preview is non-visible?

Interesting. I just got a brand new one and it has this same problem!!!!
I'll have to get it swapped then, shame as apart from this, there are no problems
I saw this case yesterday on a demo unit, both cameras had the problem. Had some pictures on the phone - older ones were OK, newer ones were with lines.
I had this issue happen to me this weekend. Weird green and red lines. You could even tell in the 2 pictures I took with the camera. Not as prominent as when I took the picture, but I can still see some areas of discoloration
Currently the lines are gone. I haven't installed or uninstalled any apps so I don't think it was anything to do with something that's incompatible.
Not sure if I should get it replaced or not.
I had the problem too...i took pics though and they weren't on the pics after viewing in the gallery. I did a reboot with a battery pull and it went away. Only happened to me once.

I did a thread about this issue, but got no feedback on it. Any thoughts?
Here is a thread of mine with embedded videos: http://androidforums.com/2830694-post1.html
Same here. At first green lines did not show on picture, then they did. I was able to reboot the phone by Long pressing the power button and the problem went away. Not only that, but the camera looked so much better. (seemed much clearer.) I also noticed some videos streaming from the web also had green lines. Can't say its related yet.

I just noticed I had this issue today and found this thread. I tried just a shut down and then started the phone again, that did not help. I shut down, pulled the battery, put it back and started up again, problem solved.
Someone else has also made a video:
Since the issue has gone away and seems to be fine now, I'm not going through getting a replacement. If it occurs again, I'll just do a battery pull to fix it again. It seems the fix holds for some time, although I don't know how long.
I called HTC to get a ticket on file. The guy I spoke with said even an HTC employee in his work area had the same issue once. A battery pull fixed it and they have not had the issue since.
They might get back to me for more information, but today I had to give them phone number, e-mail and IMEI.
They said they're investigating.
I had the same issue with mine the day after I got it. I turned off the phone pulled battery held down volume - and power and selected factory reset. Have had no problems since then. Sorry if someone already mentioned this solution but I'm at work and didn't get to read everything every one posted just trying to help

Your "solution" goes a bit too far. There's no need to do a factory reset and lose all data/settings. Just shut down, pull the battery, put the battery back in, turn it on. Problem solved.
Just pulling the battery didn't work for me so I did the reset. Just trying to help

I just purchase mine on Sunday from Telstra store $792 outright, working fine Sunday night, then Monday morning started getting corrupted lines on Telstra News and Sports. On Monday afternoon went to use camera out on site, and camera had all green lines on screen, took 3 pics and they have the lines as well.
Tues morning take phone and whole kit back to Telstra store where I purchase less than 48hrs ago. Asking for a replacement, they advised they cannot without sending it to repair to check on water ingress !! WTF ! My new phone has not been anywhere near water. All I asked for is a replacement after parting with almost $800, now Im left to wait for Telstra to send away for 7 business days to then decide if I'm entitled to a replacement ??
It appears from all over the net the current fix is to only remove the battery and re fit . After me removing my sim card and memory card, my green lines had disappeared however the shop employee did get to see the fault.
Dam why should I have to wait ! They have $800 of my money and I don't have what I paid for !
Come on Telstra.
GASM
This happened to me. Its just software. Mine did it for a day when I first got it but then disappeared and I haven't seen it happen since.
My friend has the same problem, Except when he restarts the lines go away but they come back after 2 days or so. It's really bothering him. The other thing is he doesn't want to send it to HTC as it will take forever to get back.

issue/problems with screen touch

Hey, I have problems with my screen. I cant pull the ring in bottom to unlock screen and taking pictures or start videorecord. and a lot of things in the screens bottom. I have to try 3-6 times before it respond.
I am a regular user of touch screen so I am not that amataur. Do u think the screen is broken or software? any one else with this problem?
The first phones made have this error. The man in shop told me. so its a production error. i must wait about 14 days to get it back.

While we are talking about the screen here, has anyone had problems accepting calls? On very hot days, when the phone heats up a bit in the pocket, I am completely unable to accept a call - the screen simply doesn't respond, but does so after the phone call attempt has ended.
I am though scared to contact customer support since my Desire is still in repair (sent in 3 times) since end of March.

Froschfinger: sounds like you have the same problem as me.
Takk for det, you are having the same heat problems like I do? Wasn't really keen on walking through all the touchscreen-related threads in detail, but didn't find out about heat problems of others so far. I have one of the early Vodafone devices.
check here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1140997
they are talking about the same thing, maybe you'll find a solution.
I have the same problem, its actually pretty random and doesn't always happens but is getting annoying.
I contacted customer support to probably find a solution to the problem. She told me to do a soft reset, i.e. pull out the battery while the phone is running, leave it out for some minutes and insert it again. Furthermore she told me that older sim cards can cause problems with newer phones, something I hadn't heard of before (she was talking about three to four years old sims). So far haven't had any problems with unresponsiveness, but an unnoticed shutdown, plus it's significantly colder outside so it might not happen too soon again.
After update 2.3.4 the problem is gone. screen working perfecktly.

Capacitive touch screens don't like heat. You have static problem which in conjunction with heat make phone unusable at times. Check fix for touchscreen thread, plus my thread on how to keep phone at bay, so it doesn't do it again.

Display issues, wierd colorful pixel-noise AND phone unresponsive

Sometimes, after I wake up my phone from sleep the screen shows a wierd colorful pixely noise as shown in the picture, and it doesn't respond to anything besides the power button turning off the screen.
cannot post link, i(dot)imgur(dot)com/TrI3w(dot)jpg
Replace (dot) with . but I hope you understood that
(Sorry for the bad quality, only camara besides my phone was this crappy old digital cam, but it gets the point across)
Sometimes it gets back to my normal lock screen after leaving it to be for a few seconds, but more often than not does it kinda 'lock up' in this mode with me unable to do anything with my phone. Sometimes pulling the battery and starting my phone works and will allow me to continue work/browsing as usual. Other times (right now) it goes back into the 'lock up' right away. Aand it just popped back to normal, this took around 5 minutes, give or take.
I know that when the screen locks up my music continues, for I have listened to music with the screen locked up. I am not sure if my alarm will continue to work as I have not tested it. I can also turn the ringtone volume up/down.
It seems to 'lock up' after long periods of inactivity as I have previously put my phone to sleep and woke it without the issue arising. This was whilst I was chatting. I have not been able to recreate the 'lock up' on demand, aside for just leaving it asleep for extended periods of time.
I hope there is a solution to this problem, and I'd preferably not wipe my contacts etc. I have no idea how I can keep my data through a reinstall, so if I'd have to reinstall then if someone could link me to a thread that explains how to keep data would be awesome.
The phone is a HTC Sensation, 8 years old. This is what it says in the 'about phone' tab.
Code:
Model number
HTC Sensation Z710e
Android version
4.0.3
Baseband version
11.65.3504.00U_11.19.3504.29_2
Kernel version
3.0.16-v1.30.2
SebastianFM#1
Build number
HyperNonSense v1.5 (3.32.401.5)
As you can tell, the ROM isn't the regular HTC Sense ROM, so that might cause issues. I am currently unsure whether the kernel is custom or not.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated! I hope I can fix this problem.
PS I'm sorry if this topic is a repost of any kinds, I've done a quick search for some terms that came to mind but couldn't find a thread that fit my problem.

Well for starters, Google syncs all your contacts online so once you restore your phone you'll get your contacts back. To me, it reminds me of the same issue I used to have with my Motorola Cliq: systematic hardware failure. The touch screen is starting to go. Which is why only your power button works.
But before we announce the end of your phone, why don't you do this so I can try to help:
Download "GO Backup" and back everything up.
Reboot into recovery and create a backup from there.
Wipe data, cache, and system
Install Virtuous Inquisition (I'm familiar with the ROM and it can help eliminate the possibility that it's the ROM doing the damage)
Set up your phone and restore using go backup. Then Try to induce the problem one you reload all your things
After that, let me know what the end result is

I will do this as soon as I regain control over my phone. It has been stuck on this screen for 10 minutes straight now. It really feels like standard electronics failure, starting off small and only on minor occasion and ending in a big endless failure. ****.
There is no wipe system option in my recovery ?

Replying since I'm not sure you'd read my EDIT
Display issue still arises, which means it's an internal hardware issue isn't it?
Does anyone have any experience with opening it up and seeing whether there's a connector loose or something? As I think installing a custom ROM kinda voids the warranty so I wouldn't be able to send it to HTC for repairs right?
Any Updates?
My phone started doing this this week and is now in what seems to be a permanent state of evil pixel screen. Have you had any luck fixing yours? If so, how? Thanks

It was a hardware issue, contact HTC support and they'll hook you up with a pickup and return service. If your warranty still covers that at least.

I'm having the same problem here

Samsung Galaxy S3 acting possessed

Lack of a better subject description the only thing I can describe it as is possessed. I've never had this problem before. Searched various different keywords and couldn't find anything. So if this is a repost then I apologize.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 from Verizon white 32gb. Never been rooted. Around the time Verizon pushed out the last update for the phone it's been acting strange since the update and it's progressively gotten worse. It's almost made purchases for me while I'm browsing google play it'll randomly press areas and randomly click buy at times. Or I'm trying to text someone and it'll either type something on it's own or start trying to delete/lock/resend, etc messages. It starts up s voice randomly too.
So basically it's like having a set of ghost fingers/hand trying to control my phone while I'm trying to control it and the ghost is winning and I'd rapidly hit the home button to exit out of whatever I was trying to do. If the screen is on and unlocked it'll do the same thing even if I'm not touching it but this is maybe 1 out of 5 times compared to the while I'm trying to actively use my phone it'll be 1 out of 2.
Temporary fixes have been to just restart the phone and at first it would only occur every couple days and then once a day and now every few hours to every few minutes. Anyone have any suggestions on what I can do? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
All you have available right now is factory data reset or refurb. If don't fix reflash the latest available stock software via Odin or root and unlock it and flash anything. Can even root stock and have access to better apps.
Try a factory reset if you haven't.

I have now tried a factory reset and while it took longer than just a few minutes to go all psychotic on me it still happened. Thanks for the tips! Any other suggestions? refurb is the last option I want to take I've received too many defective refurb phones and I don't think I can deal with anymore. I can try root I suppose but if there's any other suggestions I should try prior I'm open!
Thank you thank you!
If i were in your position I would try to Odin back to the stock rom you had before the update. There is a sticky in the development section that tell you how to do that and much more

It sounds defective. I'd take it back.
What you are describing happened to my Droid Incredible a few times: it appeared that someone else was creating random tap events on my phone. Turned out to be a slightly dirty and/or stuck optical trackball - once that was cleaned (easy), everything was back to normal.
Now, the Galaxy S III does not have a trackball. I don't see a direct correlation with my Incredible, but the symptoms you describe are oddly similar: perhaps try cleaning your various pushable keys, just in case?
Might install and run Symantec Antivirus just for a final check, then call Verizon Support if it's still happening and perhaps see what they can offer.

Replace your device. The touchscreen encoder is bad. If your screen is clean, never got wet, and is pressing random areas - and a factory reset or Odin doesn't work - this is most likely the case. You could try to convince them to give you a new one at the store by telling them you don't want to wait or something.
Also download the app multitouch visualizer and run it when it's flaking out. You will be able to see the "screen press" activity.

Because the device is so new you have a very good chance of getting a new replacement. I had something happen to my GNEX and they replaced it with a new phone no refurb.
Thank you all very much for your tips and advice! I stopped by the Verizon store today. Twice actually. It was a no go. First off they won't replace my phone with anything but a refurb (which is standard policy anyway) but the second part which is really irritating is that the phone was driving me insane till I went into the verizon store while waiting for a tech it kept acting odd then when the tech got my phone it functioned correctly. So since they couldn't replicate the problem they said they can't offer me a replacement. As soon as I got into the car it started happening again I ran into the verizon store and they said I had to wait for a tech again so I put my name in and waited had a different tech and of course as soon as he tested the phone it wasn't acting odd anymore so once again couldn't replicate.
Maybe my phone really is possessed.. but then again it's been my luck with past phones as well if they have issues they refuse to happen in store so I got my replacements via 611 tech support. So I called 611 and they said they never heard of the issue and that I should wait for update.

I did some research and someone said those are the symptoms of the virus...

It's Verizon, some tech there is having fun with the remote capabilities of the new OTA.
Alrighty, took longer than expected but I did manage to do Odin stock firmware. It fixed the problem or so I thought for 48 hours but then it returned. Now a new problem has come up and the battery is draining at alarming speeds.. I will have phone at 80% when I go to sleep and when I wake up 3 hours later the battery is completely dead. No new apps, nothing draining in the background. I'm at a loss. Anyone have any other advice? Or are my only options now to throw the phone out the window or try to root it.

You wrote in a previous post that you went into the Verizon store... don't do that, ever... just call them.. tell them what it's doing and that you have tried a factory reset. They will overnight you a new/refurbished phone.
I had problems with mine as well and after fighting with the tool they call a manager I called 611 from the parking lot and after the hold time I had tech support on the phone and had a new replacement on the way 5 minutes later..
Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the tip but if you read through the whole post. I did default to calling 611 like I usually do and they wouldn't do anything about it. Yes, I did tell em I did the factory reset. It's not the first time I had a phone replaced through 611 I've gone through maybe 10+ replacements on one of my past phones because they kept sending me a defective one over and over again. I did call 611 again since you suggested it but I was told the same exact thing as last time.
I had this happen a few times with my phone before the update verizon pushed (stock, rooted). I would end up pulling the battery to get it to stop. Hasn't happened to me in a while though. Now i'm running JellyWiz RLS12
