[Q] Music gives pauses while playing! - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

Hi Everyone..
I've a strange problem and i tried a lot searching the solution of it over the net and here as well, but in vain. I recently flashed my ROM and since then i'm having this issue. When ever i turn any feature on in DSP manager , tracks while playing start to give a short pauses. Any one having the same issue and any luck with solution of it? I'm currently using "SGH-T959V" Firmware 2.3.6 of Gingerbread-VUVKJ6.
When i turn it off, it plays fine but i need to use the enhancement, because without it, sound is not so good.
Please any advice or suggestion would be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Can you please give us more information? What ROM are you using? Can you provide a LogCat?
Also DSP manager is built for CyanogenMod, so there might be missing libraries or any sort of extra stuff.

Actually i'm kind of a newbie to this android thingy, so please bear my unawareness of things. Previously i was using Valhala black edition, and i thought trying any other ROM would help so i shifted to another ROM, called "unnamed" based on Stock KJ6, using the kernal "bhundven's v0.1.1-rc2". I really don't know what LogCat is and where its found in device. Might a little guidance help.
Thanks in advance

I don't know why he said DSP was "built" for CM. The problem you are having is known and will likely be fixed by disabling the equalizer in the app.

You mean just the equalizer or all the features like bass boost, compression and other enhancements?

Just the EQ. If you really like to use the EQ settings just find a player that has one installed. It's an annoying issue for sure. It is however well known and no one has been able to fix it that I'm aware of.

Yes i seems like its useless to work anymore. However, i found another plug-in and it works like a charm. So its okay to keep DSP aside!
Thanks for the information guys! Thumbs Up!

Ninja Rom Q&A

As some of you have come from the captivate know what I did there with Rom Q&A threads. I am doing the same here. In an effort to clean up the site. All Rom related question shall from now on be posted in the proper Q&A or will be deleted on sight.

sound issue-
i can hear two seconds roughly, of static evertime my phone makes a noise, the system clicking noise.....any sound while playing a game. i can hear it over headphones, or on the main speaker. also, when my headphones are on and im cliking through my music library, i hear it. its not really a big issue, more of an annoyance and something i havent encountered before. but i would like to fix it if possible.
If you have any questions about Ninja, please post them here. The team will be happy to answer your questions the best we can. Thanks Zel for setting this up!!
I think this is a great thread. It should be added to the initial post on the Ninja page so that noobs have a place to go with questions. Is there anyway to post the Q/A's from the development thread and list them here so that the same questions aren't asked again?
.flv files
Maybe its me, but with the other Phoenix roms (on the captivate) I could play .flv files, not from the stock video player, but I had download another, Act 1 player, or something like that. On this rom I have to use Moai FLV player, which is annoying and skips. Any thoughts on why the system doesn't recognize those anymore?
Thanks

I didn't look back in the other thread, but did you download a fresh copy of Ninja before? It seems you've had many issues. Also, if you download to the computer, make sure you have a good USB cable and USB port on the computer. Make sure you aren't using a USB breakout box. Those don't always work well. Also, have you tried the Lordmod kernels? The newest one, 6.8 seems to work well.

Quick question guys. Today my phone started all of a sudden started acting weird. Mobile data barely works though my guess is its the network yesterday It was fine but was slow and today even worse. I also noticed my gallery app wont display my pics. It just shows blank transparant blocks. Lastly go launcher suddenly lost my custom icons when I rebooted.
Running ninja 716 with 6.8 bfs. I haven't changed/ added anything new. This was just sudden. Anybody experience this. This rom has never given me problems

Bluetooth improvements

I made some changes in /system/etc/bluetooth/audio.conf that could improve the connection with cars or bluetooth headsets.
I didn't test it, I never use bluetooth. I think the only times I turned it on was by accident. This is not a real fix, but in many cases it solved the problem (it's a common issue among android phones).
The file changed is /system/etc/bluetooth/audio.conf. Extract the flashable zip to see the changes.
Let me know if these changes make your connection more stable.
Here the flashable zip:

Here a flashable zip to restore the original file:

It's not rom specific, you can use it on any stock rom.

I found references to that file by accident, I did some research and found that some changes could improve the bluetooth connection.
Probably I need to do some more changes, but I need some user feedback, because I can't test it.
For example I set
Code:
master=true
but I found that this would make the connection not possible with some headsets. However this will prevent audio playback glitches.

I'll be shamelessly pointing to my kernel, now: Try this. I fixed a bluetooth bug for the user simbita in beta 12. He had problems with his car audio system before and reported them to be fixed with this release. Beta 13 should work equally fine.

Nope :/ maybe it made my situation worse (my headset isn't auto-connecting). Gotta do more testing
PS: XDA_Bam, you got a new dmesg via PM! Feel free to share it if helpful
EDIT: confirm, after flashing this mod my headset isn't autoconnecting anymore. Gotta revert to old one.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I read all messages before posting, so I was aware of the incompatibility...I flashed your second fix but the headset still doesn't autoconnect. Reverted to stock one FTM (and it auto-connects flawlessly)
BTW, my main problem (the one that we're trying to solve with XDA_Bam) persists: "long press on headset doesn't do/trigger anything, instead of starting/trying to start some voice dialing app, like normal android behaviour". I think it's Samsung's bluetooth implementation/framework/stack/kernel/software fault (on JP-MIUI, it worked flawlessly). EDIT: exaclty, didn't fix anything...just another try
My conf: i9003, CleanKPURom 1.5, XDA_Bam kernel b13, Jabra EasyGO headset (that works perfectly on other phones).

Installed the .apk by clicking it or placing it in the /system/app/ folder?
If you placed it in the app folder with the other file reboot the phone and see if it recognizes it and works.

Couldn't help you there. I use Handcent SMS Pro Beta. I also buy their yearly subscriptions for $9.99. I can send out a text list and the schedule them to send if I want to send them at a certain time. IT has many options. If you do decide to use Handcent go to your applications>All and disable Messaging to turn of the stock application or you will get double alerts.

He isn't asking about a messaging app. OP is talking about boosting his BT audio.
@op - Have you tried the Viper4Audio mod? I used this for my earbuds and BT connection for my car audio. It makes a huge difference. There is a link for it under the S3 apps and theme section.
The Synergy custom ROM and probably many others have options for boosting audio playback on headphones and bluetooth, which I think is what you are asking. its not really clear what you are seeking, but it you mean media playback on A2DP on bluetooth, then ramble over the the development section.

[GUIDE] *UPDATED* Viper4Android Installation On Enforcing Stock Following Root

You do this off your own back so you take full responsibility, but it worked perfectly for me. Follow the steps below.
Install TWRP and root as per @jcadduono's thread. Don't forget to thank him. You can also root via ODIN using Chainfire's CF-Auto-Root but note that you will still need TWRP for this guide.
Install Busybox.
Download this audio_effects.conf file and replace the one in /system/etc.
Visit this link, have a read if you want, then download the file from the Dropbox link provided near the bottom.
Download the latest version of Viper4Android from the XDA thread. Copy the APK into /system/priv-app and change its permissions to 644, reboot then run the now installed V4A application, installing the drivers when asked and granting root access.
Freeze or uninstall Sound Alive.
Power off and boot into TWRP. Flash the downloaded zip from step 4, reboot.
Viper should now work fine without needing compatibility mode.
The sound quality once set up correctly is absolutely fantastic, far better than the old Qualcomm DAC on my old Note 3 even with V4A running.
Hit the thanks button if you find this helpful.
EDIT -- @Zyxxeil has created a zip file which does all the above, bar install TWRP, root and busybox, which you still need to do before hand. Download this and install from TWRP. Don't forget to thank him on this post in this thread.
I followed your steps, driver is installed just not processing.
Any idea's ?
Should I disable the stock music fx apps ?
Sorry, yes. Freeze or disable Sound Alive. OP updated.

I just disabled Sound Alive, but I mainly did that because on Lollipop Spotify refused to work unless that was done. I've not tried leaving it enabled here, it could work but disabling it does no harm.
Just to point out the driver will only be listed as processing when sound is running, I assume you're aware of that?

No worries mate. OP updated with step by step instructions, although it's pretty much the same as it was just easier to read. It simply worked for me without requiring compatibility mode. Perhaps if you remove the V4A drivers, uninstall V4A then install both the app and drivers again. Also, it won't hurt to install the fix zip from TWRP again.
I'm using a combination of Spotify and GoneMad for music playback.

Don't like Poweramp but will check now mate.
EDIT -- Strange. I installed Poweramp trial but I'm not getting any sound from it, regardless of what music codec I attempt to play (tried mp3, FLAC and ogg). I then load up GoneMad and it works fine. I'll do more digging.
@riso123, might have found your issue. Finally got sound working but Viper wasn't being used by Poweramp. Go into Poweramp settings, Audio, Advanced Tweaks and unselect Direct Volume Control.

Unfortunately that's the first thing I did and it didn't make a difference.
I'm not overly fussed, as neutron appears to provide as good or even better sound that v4a for me at the moment. I'm pretty sure now that this looks like a PowerAmp issue however and may have a play tonight with other options.
I did have other strange noisy artifacts when I used Google play with v4a however, although I never played with the settings to identify the fault.
Thanks for your help mate. Appreciate it.

Strange. That being ticked or unticked on mine is the difference between Viper being used or not (processing Yes/No). By default Poweramp did not use Viper.
Can I suggest you download the GoneMad trial and see if it works with that. If not it's nothing to do with the player as that works out the box with mine so to speak, with no adjustments required. It might be worth starting the whole thing from scratch again.

Yeah, I removed v4a last night when I started using neutron. I may have another go tonight though. It is strange how our devices seem to differ on this though.
Neutron is decent and offers a lot of options, but it's worlds apart from Viper when it comes to adjusting dynamics and getting the perfect sound. Good luck in getting it working.

Uck sake! Could have saved myself a few quid if id been more patient! Yes, GoneMad works fantastic with v4a!
Now, to purchase or not to purchase?
Best music player on Android in my view. I don't like the poncey graphics and over the top effects the likes of Poweramp and Neutron employ. GoneMad is simple, supports every codec out there, and has a fantastic UI.

Can't Record Calls after Mashmallow? Tried Multiple Apps

Hi guys,
On my stock Z5C before Marshmallow update I was successfully running (and recording) calls with the "Voice Recorder" app from Splend Apps. It worked well, although the sound quality was not great. Well, recently I updated the phone to Android 6.0 and today I tried using Voice Recorder but it gave me an error message: "do you have another app trying to record the call" or something like this.
First reaction was to install another app and get it to work. Well, two apps later (ACR & Call Recorder) and now I suspect this is related to Android 6.0 and not the apps.
Any suggestion on how to tackle this? Preferably without getting into in-depth rooting and things like this?
Thanks in advance,
BB

Interesting, but after reading some of the reviews I am not so confident this is 100% guaranteed to work.. and it does not seem like they offer a trail version. I explicitly believe the issues I have found are related to Android 6.0 and not the apps that I tried using, so unless I can try the app in advance I wont purchase it.
