Hi ,
Please provide me the best ROM for HTC Explorer with a procedure to how to install it.
Also tell me how i can take backup of this official ROM so that i can further recover this ROM whenever i want.
I have rooted my newly Explorer but when i move applications to SD card , it moves but still it takes little internal memory so please give me that Rom which should keep everything on SD card.
Also i have heard that RAM can be increase using custom ROM.
So please provide me the that ROM which do the above thing
Thanks
Check out this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1999273 this kind of questions are kinda rood cos guys develop roms in there own time for us with pretty much nothing getting back to them, so check oust roms changelogs and make your choice
If you want a rom which is just like stock rom in looks but is way better in performance you should usr Nextgen 1.5 rom. It already had m2sd so you can install apps to an ext partition on your sdcard. Follow the instructions in the first post of the thread and there is even an installation
instr. video at the end of the third post.
If you want to backup your current rom then go to recovery and select backup & restore then backup.

It is not in the slightest bit rude (which is what I assume you meant by "rood") to ask which ROMs are stable. Rude would be saying "Rom X is rubbish, the developer is an idiot" or something like that. Asking which ROMs are stable is a perfectly acceptable (and very sensible) thing to do. You shouldn't have to install dozens of different ROMs only to find bugs which render your phone unusable, just to "be polite". That is a completely ridiculous notion.
To the OP: I haven't (yet) tried any of the custom ROMs, but I hear many good things about the stock CM builds (there are builds of CM9.1 [ICS] and CM10 [JB]; I believe the builds of CM10 are slightly less stable than the CM9.1 builds, which are pretty much completely stable from what I can gather). Most other ROMs on the forums are built off one of those ROMs, and so should be about as stable as the base ROM, but they could be based on older builds, which were less stable. So your mileage may vary with the other ROMs.
If you want a stable custom ROM, I'd say you should probably go for CM9.1. I personally intend to install either it or CM10 in the near future.

Hi, I have recently rooted my Desire S, with revolutionary, clockwork etc, and I currently ported this rom HTC_DESIRE_S_2.3.5-2.10.401.4.zip
Everything is working just fine, but theoretically, when I decide to port a new rom, how would I know which will work, and which won't?
Actually, I'm waiting until ICS is released for desire s, so I can find it and install it...
Are there any methods to identify which rom would be compatible?
Thank you!

hey mate
your're actually talking about two different things: porting a ROM and flashing a ROM.
Porting means, you take a ROM from another device and modify it so it works on your device too.
flashing means, you take a ROM which is already optimized for your device
and install it, so you wipe the stock firmware and get a custom rom.
which of the two things is what you want to do? i think its just the flashing.
so you can take any ROM from the "development section", and if you follow the guides that you can find everywhere here im sure you will be succesfull and happy with it.
bytheway
there is no "best" ROM for your device. it all depends on what you need and want. there are alot sense 3.5 Roms, Endymion 3.4 is the one i would recommend. you can also try AOSP ROMs (android open source project, means no sense), cyanogenmod7 could be a good first choice. and you can also try ics right now, since there are at least 3 (?) ICS AOSP ROMs right now:
CM9, Virtuous Quattro RC3, IceColdSandwich
have fun!
Yes I meant "flashing" a rom
Thanks for all the information. That's the general idea I have as well, however I had this question because after I flashed another rom (official rom through htc sync - that could have been the problem) over my first flashed one , the phone was "bricked"....

i would never recommend to flash an official ROM over a custom ROM. But anyways, i think if you would have done a full wipe before flashing the official rom you wouldnt have got a "you call it brick"
a real "BRICK" is a useless phone, where there is no way to use it again.if there is still a way, its no brick.. but who cares about definitions
I recommend you to flash the ROMs only through recovery mode. AND ALWAYS DO A FULL WIPE BEFORE FLASHING A NEW ROM. very important
and dont forget to backup as always
Yes you are absolutely right. I'll have that in mind the next time I'll decide to flash a new one
Yeah the device wasn't completely useless, it hanged at boot...but I guess that was due to not following the right procedure as you previously described..
Thanks eyahl
Start flashing different roms and trying them for a day or two. First
Sens 3.0 and then sense 3.5 roms to see the difference. Only then you will know which rom is best for you.
+1 for Endymion 3.4,
+1 for Endymion
Swyped from my Desire S using XDA Premium
+1 Endymion
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
edymion, will try it

Each ROM type suits different personal tastes, so there isn't an 'best' ROM for everyone. Trial and Error which ones suit you!
General opinions:
Stock
Pro: Straight from HTC, *newest kernel/drivers*, least likely to have compatibility issues.
Cons: HTC is slow to release updates, and sense interface is usually resource hungry.
Sense-like
Pro: usually keep the Sense interface, but custom kernals offer speed / various other improvements.Runnymead versions are kernals ported across from HTC Sensation (which offer some of the goodies like Beats Audio etc. that were not originally developed for Saga.
Cons: Sense interface is resource hungry...
CyanogenMod based
Pro: offer lots of customisations
Cons: not the most user friendly
AOSP
Pro: Roms from the android source, usually less resource hungry, so lighter and faster.
Cons: Obviously, no sense.
ICS Alpha/Beta
Not strictly a new category, but builds from the new Android 4.0 (ICS).
Currently some things (like camera) isn't fully working yet.
Note: new Desire S may suffer from camera/video lag bug with non-stock / non-sense ROMs, this is due to HTC putting in new hardware / driver into the new DS phones and the other kernels not reflecting this change yet.
Personally, I use SenseMOD Lite V1.2 build 2 as it is one of the few AOSP like builds that don't have the camera bug. Oxygen would have been best choice for me but unfortunately camera bug makes it unusable.
Hey guys. I don't want to drive over your feet, but I think the OP is already very satisfied with all those replies. specially the post above is really trying to help, but you spend much time to type what has already been written on the first page.
I appreciate your intend to help, bit I think the OP isn't gonna read this anymore..
Btw: endy!...

1st make a C-ROM that will last till the day, i mean atleast it can be use for one day.
2nd is to have testers atleast 5 or so to try and found out the bugs on the said ROM.
3rd is the base, keep in mind that when ur ROM is basing onto ROM make sure the ROM will last a day..i suggest to make DDLF2 as a base since it has a good battery back up..
lastly, make all mods and features usable..
to all testers just give feedback after u already tried the possible solutions..
that alls...
dont get angry..=)
1) Almost all C-ROMs that I've tested worked for me for few days, except bugs that were already reported. Only the new revisions of ROMs had bugs that I reported. I didnt last long on a ROM as i guess I'm a flashoholic, as it's called.
2) I guess everyone who installs these ROMs and report bugs are testers. Maybe you're one as well.
3) There are a lot of C-ROMs in dev section that are built on "stable" stock ROMS like kpu lf2. There are CM7(largely bugfree) based ROMs as well.
Other ROMs based on CM9 (by Dhiru) are for people who want the ICS feel on their phones, as sammy's not going to release ICS for this phone, unless they have a change of mind:fingers-crossed:.
Friend, all devs here are normal people like you and me. In most cases, they are trying out different cool stuff for their phones, and they want to share it with this community. They are free to choose whatever stock they want to use as a base. Similary, we as users(testers) are free to use any of their ROM or sammy's official ones.

Hello there,
I recently rooted my sister's Explorer because she kept complaining about low memory and lag. I rooted it but I guess I need to install a custom ROM on it as stock one is utter crap.
Because I am new to explorer forums can someone help me out with a stable rom which doesn't need a lot of tweaks and everything works as it should.
I had Wildfire S some time back so I am aware of ROMs and stuff but still as this is my sisters phone I'd like if someone can guide me what to do after I am done rooting. (How to install the rom and what partitions of sd card are required.)
Thank you!
EDIT: I shortlisted a ROM called "Exderoid Sense 5 Build#3.5"... What are your views on it? Any bugs? Everyday stuff!

Hi, brother, it would be better if you wouldn't ask for suggestions as it may lead to bickering and unwanted arguments between people.
As for the ROM.. I guess nothing is better than trying it out itself ! I guess the bugs will be mentioned in the ROM's OP .. and further bug reports in the thread of the ROM..
As for the ROM .. for (almost) all ROMs based on Sense 4.1 you need to create a 1 GB sd-ext partition on the Sdcard .. ext2 or ext3 is preferred..
Apart from this ROMs .. there are many other ROMs in this forum which are also pretty darn good. check the bugs out and try to install them , try and decide for yourself

No rom comparison threads please.
Try them yourself, there is no objective way to compare roms.
Hi guys,
I always read in the Xda forum but never wrote or asked a question...usually someone already asked them.
so I have the Mi 5S PLUS...but I hate the miui UI. can't get used to it. And yesterday I finally found that there are custom ROM for this device.
So I got few questions.
1. As far as i know, the source code hasnt been released but should be released soon. should I wait for a ROM that uses the source code?
2. I see that the most popular costum ROMs for this device are - Lineage and resurrection remix. In terms of battery life, stability and bug free rom. which one is the best?
3. I see there is one ROM with the tag [OFFICIAL]....does this mean it uses the source code? if not, what does it mean?
thanks a lot to those that answer

1. Source code is released but rom based on source code are not released yet .You can use them but their are some bugs,
2.You can check yourself
3. Official means official rom from lineage team or other maintainers just like Global MIUI rom from xiaomi is official while xiaomi.eu is unofficial .
You can check for source in rom page for more info about what device tree and source code it uses

The reason that people don't recommend one over the other is because YMMV. I know I came from a cyanogen ROM with my previous phone and dirty unicorns on the phoen before that (along with a whole set of custom ROMs). In the end though, I found them all to be "similar". Yes, some do some things differently like some offer a lot of CPU governors, while others keep the list pretty tight. Some default with swap space on, some don't use swap space at all (this phone shouldn't need swap space). Sometimes the difference between two ROMs is just the launcher.
For me, I don't really like the MIUI launcher. It feels a lot like an iphone. This isn't a bad thing. Some people like it. I just install Apex (from the play store) and my issues with the ROM were mostly resolved. The only remaining problem is MASS STORAGE. But, based on my experience with mly previous phone, I doubt I'll find a ROM that natively supports it. But I know how to hack my way in and get that going (just need root... which requires an unlocked bootloader... and if I am reading things correctly, you need to wipe everything which I currently not willing to do... but may have found a workaround... going to test it out tomorrow).

Wipe everything is very simple connect the phone via USB cable to PC and via twrp wipe everything then past a Rom on the phone and flash it, that's it

Wiping everything is easy, yes, but I want to avoid wiping if I don't have to.
Got the phone rooted without needing to wipe it (yay), but getting mass storage enabled failed on me. I can't seem to write to the file I need to which confuses me... but that is off topic so I'll refrain from boring you with details on that.
Back on topic, if you are switching to a custom ROM you will need to wipe things. I personally would wait for a custom kernel to come out before you start playing with custom ROMs unless the custom ROM has a feature you REALLY want. With my previous phones, the one that had a custom Kernel as well as custom ROMs was a lot more stable and had a lot fewer bugs. The one that had only factory kernel, the custom ROMs were flaky. They mostly worked, but they did have bugs. If I got a phone call or called somebody and they hung up first, it would crash the dialer and the dialer would fail to start again until I rebooted. Now a custom kernel may not have helped that, but since the kernel was based on a previous version of Android, it was unstable.
The current custom ROMs (that I have seen) are all based off of the stock kernel and not newer ones so I personally do not expect to see much benefit in changing ROMs except having different bloat and a different launcher. Well, at lest for the things I use my phone for. But YMMV.
Most of the rom found here are just copy and paste with small edit.
In the lineage os based roms all roms are same including same bugs, only the theme is newly installed and new name is given to the rom, who needs it? just to chill the developer heart rom is downloaded that's all. Developers stop wasting your precious time in creating junk rom.
Stop creating junk Rom and Create a proper official or unofficial lineage os rom without bug and making fp gestures and ultra power save key customisable.
Finally
Developers create only
1--------lineage os Rom
2-------Paranoid android rom
3-------Aosp rom
4-------ressurection remix Rom (los based)
5-------AEX Rom (aosp based)
We just need a Stable Rom, and not a rom with full of bugs, if we want themes we will try subtratum, and create our own theme with ThemeDIY.
Better luck !! Any mistake let me know it in comment section.

Yes they are but all roms have extra/different added features than los,, and have different stability, smoothness, battery backup etc
Just to chill dev rom is downloaded wtf u talking about???u even know whats an custom rom is?
You think fixing fp gestures etc is easy??then why not fix it yourself than demanding for an fix..even dev have their own life..if u want an stable rom build it yourself,,they dont get payed and there and many roms than what u have mentioned..peace

Haha how much extra hour battery life you get?
What different feature? WhAt's new?
Most of android 7.x is same as another 7.x nothing is new, it's just a copy and paste.only user interface is different because of theme that's all. Developers Better don't waste your precious time in copy and paste.
Every rom has its own pros and cons, but for creating new rom based on something the existing Rom with bug can be solved.
I started creating a custom rom myself.
WE DON'T WANT REPLACEMENT ROM, ALL WE WANT IS RELIABLE ROM OR NOTHING. ✌✌✌
Its so much true in your statement. But you must remember, don`t like it = don`t use it. It`s xda, the biggest android community in Internet, everybody can share their work here (of course if its not against rules). Your right is to use only what you like to use. Of course its better to have only few, but rock solid roms, than 100 buggy crappy sh**... But do you think this thread could change anything? Good luck, finger crossed, but unfortunately I think that this place will be quite hot battleground. Regards
