On ICS, in my room I get 3 bars when connected to WiFi and it never drops.
On any JB ROM, my phone sees the connection at 3 bars but when its connected its only 0-1 bar. 1 if I'm lucky. I'm sitting right next to my router and I'm getting only 3 bars.
I changed the WiFi region code to USA already and doesn't help at all.
Is there a radio I should flash or a modem? I'm on the latest firmware. 3.33 I believe. I'm on Bruce's cm10.
Is this a known problem?

if you are on tmous i believe wifi disconnecting\not connecting is a known issue as well as low signal on jellybean all around. U should consider urself lucky that you get any wifi connection I can't use jellybean roms because I need wifi and when I activate wifi it keeps losing signal then eventually causes my phone to reboot.
I don't get data at all on Cm roms so your doing pretty good with data and Wi-Fi.
I am however on a jelly bean rom that I received both good data and Wi-Fi. It's paranoid Android. I'm happy with that rom. It seems the others I can't get any data.best wishes

Okay so on CM7 my WiFi signal is just way weaker than it should be. I'm in the room right next to my router, and I have like half of a WiFi signal...On every Sense ROM I've tried (and the stock ROM), my WiFi works perfectly fine, yet on CM7 it's complete garbage...Does anybody know how I might solve this problem? Somebody suggested I try a new radio. I had been using stock, but I flashed the Telus radio and it was exactly the same. Also, why doesn't CM7 have an option to use like Advanced WiFi or w/e (where it works better but uses more battery, it's an option in the stock ROM)?
I'm on CM7 also but my WiFi is the same on this as it was on CoreDroid and stock ROM. I had the Atrix prior to the Inspire and will say the WiFi on that phone was annoying. I could stand right near my router and I'd have 1 bar of WiFi like really?
My Wifi was great on coredroid and inspiredsaga, buy not cm7 for some reason

That's strange. Does it run slower or just show less signal? If it runs at little to no noticeable difference is it a big deal?
I'm not sure because I don't really browse the web on my phone through wifi, I usually only download Apps and whatnot.
I'm not sure if it's slower, but I lose connection sometimes. I'll be downloading something and it will say "connectivity lost. rety?"

Are you checking signal strength in decibels or just bars? Decibels is the only way to make a fair comparison. Some ROMs may have a different bar/decibel ratio. 4 bars on one ROM might be 3 bars on another for the same given signal strength.
FWIW a couple of weeks ago I was curious if different ROMs affected signal strength. I tried rooted stock, CoreDroid, TPC, CM7 and Ultimate Droid and noticed no change in decibel signal strength. Wifi Analyzer and Network Signal are two such apps that will show decibels. Be sure to measure signal strengths in the EXACT same spot and take an average of signal strength (as they will vary a few dB normally).
One thing I noticed since switching to CM7 is that my signal strength is more accurate. My laptop shows 3-4 bars when I have it right next to my phone, and on the stock Sense ROM I was showing max signal. Now on CM7, I get 3-4 bars of Wi-Fi signal strength, so I think it's all a matter of how it measures. If you are seeing serious performance issues, then that's a different matter.
FWIW, I have not seen any Wi-Fi performance issues between CM7 and stock ROM.
I had the same issue with CM7.
At one end of my house, one or zero wifi bars with CM7. Kept flip-flopping between wifi and 3G, disrupting use.
With stock ROM or TPC Stock Optimized at the same location, phone gets one or two wifi bars and I can surf without the phone flip-flopping between wifi and 3G.

That is just a slight radio mismatch issue between CM7 and whatever radio you're using (it sounds like you're using the stock radio). I had the same thing happen to me using CM7 with the stock radio. This radio is fine for a lot of ROMs, and it gets good signal strength, and phone calls were no problem, but using CM7 in 1-2 bar wifi strength areas it would flip between wifi and cell data way more than it needed to. Flashing to radio 12.48.60.23U_26.08.04.07_M3 and flashing the RIL file HTC-RIL_2.2.1003G fixed this problem for me. Now the phone stays locked onto weaker wifi signals much better.
I read somewhere on this forum yesterday that one of the new nightlies for CM7 is going to have a different RIL in it; maybe it will address problems like this.
same here
i was having issues with my wifi and signal bars w/cm7 also, so i just switched to ace.
Most of the time it works fine, but if the signal drops I get no internet.
Even if I have one bar signal, the phone tries to connect to 3G or H, which is impossible, so internet doesn't work. I think that when the signal drops the phone should switch to 2G, right?
In settings I have GSM/WCMDA auto checked.
I tried different radios and RILs, but I haven't found a solution. Thx in advance
I was having this issue last night, someone mentioned T-Mobile is having some tower issues. Which rom is it? Is it happening with just one rom or is it any rom? It happened to me running Cm10 then when I switched back to DKOS I got my signal back. I was trying everything also, new rils, ect. The only thing that helped me was to switch roms. Hope you get your data back soon! Maybe try out some different roms to see if it returns.

I am using Viper S and I am in Albania, Europe, so it's not related to T-Mob.
The strange thing is that it doesn't switch to 2G, no matter how low the signal is, it always tries to connect to H. Does anyone have this problems with Viper?
Edit. By testing with different RILs, Radios I came up with the best configuration for me.
It's the first time I get 7MB down and 2 MB up. The max before was 5.5MB up.
But the problem with 2G network is the same, so I think it has smth to do with the ROM
Edit:I realized that it was my networks problem. So if you are on Vodafone Albania it's normal to lose connection once in a while.
But there's a simple solution to this problem. I found an app which resolves the probem perfectly 3G RECONNECT
First I want to say I am fairly new to this. I love this ROM! I am having an issue though, everything seems to work better than advertised accept the WiFi. The signal is weak and it will only work in 3g. I have the SGH-T959V the Galaxy S4G. I can connect to routers but it will not pick up 4G. I Flashed Heimdall one click GB then installed CM9. the wifi would connect at all so I trie a few other ROMs that were versions of CM9 but no luck. I went back to the orginal CM9 and the wifi would at least turn on! I was able to connect to a router at that point but still 3g only. Any help would be great!! I also tried to flash different modems but still the same.
There is no such thing as wifi 4g. Lol Either your are on wifi or you're not. 3g and 4g(h and h+ on cm based roms) are for the cell data network.
Lol, that is some mushroom trip.
Hit the thanks button if it helps. It's my motivator to be more helpful.

I'm thankful for the humour that the Q/A threads cause me.
Sorry for the confusion

OK I agree sorry, my WiFi works but is weak and my cell network data is only coming in at 3g, It was at 4g before the Rom flash to CM9. Is there a reason it would not go back to 4G? Like I said it was fine before the flash.
Wifi has always been weak on our phones. The 3g/4g thing, the rom grabs 3g until it needs the data flow. Then, it would/should go to the 4g(h). Saves battery this way.

Thanks for the reply, I do alot of streaming because I commute for work and it is not switching, I have not had it go to H yet, my stream has been choppy at best. I am thinking of wiping the phone and going back to GB stock then re flash CM9, I tested a few flashes before I landed at CM9 finally.
About a week ago, I flashed the WiFi firmware update from turges thread. Ever since then I have been getting atrocious internet speeds (like less than 1mpbs down on a 20 down/5 up connection), as well as some hangs in connection. The phone shows that it is connected the whole time, but there are periods of no internet connection. I flashed different ROMs with clean wipes to no avail. All the computers in my house are not suffering from this issue. Is the WiFi firmware update permanent and does not get reset in a clean wipe? And is that even the issue?

Is there a particular radio version that is better for CM 10.1 and other AOSP roms?
On both it and the new Carbon rom my data connection drops every time I disconnect from a wifi network. It shows bars but there is no data.
My current radio ver is 0.24p.32.09.06. Not sure if it is the radio firmware or something else I'm missing. Everything else on the rom works well enough, just curious that my connection seems to be so unreliable.
U did a clean install?

I am having the same issue on liquid smooth rom? Any insight yet. I occasionally can get data back toggling airplane mode but mostly have to turn off WiFi and then reboot. Its not horrible but becomes a hassle when on the go working

I am having the same problem on CM 10.1. Every time I leave a wifi network I do not get network data. Going into and out of airplane mode seems to fix it until the next time I connect to wifi. 0.19as.32.09 is my baseband number.
