I'm amazed by the number of people who don't know this...
All US carriers to sell LOCKED handsets are REQUIRED by LAW to provide unlock codes upon request.
All you need to do is call the carrier the handset is locked to hand request the unlock code. They will ask you for the IMEI and provied you with the code. If they give you any heat or static about it, just tell them that you KNOW they are required by law to give you the code.
The only way they can refuse is if the IMEI for the handset is tied to an account that still owes money, but if you purchased at retail pricing and never had an account, or currently have an account in good standing, they cannot refuse.
STOP PAYING FOR SIM UNLOCKING AND CALL THE CARRIER!
I have NEVER paid for a SIM unlocking service and am currently using the latest NRG energy rom on my unlocked AT&T FUZE.
SIM Unlock
I don't think what you're saying is true. I have searched for any trace of a US law requiring SIM unlocks an haven't found one. I did find this on wikipedia:
Singapore is the only country that forbid outright SIM locking and contract/phone bundling.
The US and UK don't have any SIM locking laws, but American and British carriers usually offer unlocking codes voluntarily.
Many countries listed below have some form of simlocking laws specifying the period of simlocking and the cost of obtaining unlocking codes. However their effectiveness may be questioned when we look at the iPhone's worldwide distribution practices. The worldwide launch of the iPhone has definitively shattered numerous myths about whether some country has laws against SIM locking.

I second the OP here. It's true but you can only ask your cell phone provider to unlock a phone you bought from them (and not from a friend or fleebay), you have an active contract in good standing, you are atleast 2-3 months into the contract and so on. Basically if they sold u a locked phone, you can demand an unlock.
It sucks to run the whole nine yards, and then pay the same amount of money for the security unlocker. I really wish Olipro could have a security unlock only service.
If you get your carrier to unlock your phone is that when you can flash a Radio from a different device?

Nope...subsidy unlocking is NOT the same as security unlocking.
actually US carriers are required to give you the subsidary unlock code for your device (excluding iPhone and cdma/gsm hybrids although technically, not offerring it for the iPhone is illegal) but only if you are going out of the country and don't to want to use their service or pay their fees since it does not directly interfere with their service.
ATT will give you the code in a couple days if you lie and say your going away for a week or two.
Also that wikipedia article is wrong because phones in Belguim cannot be opertor locked either. Caused a fiasco with the iPhone.
leaving the country

I'm looking for someone, who'll help to unlock two sim-locked Droid2 Global. I already tried unlock codes from unlock services - but they didn't work. Both phones have Verizon codes, not Motorola factory.
I would like to pay a person, who can call to VZW Global Support to unlock them.
First, it's impossible to unlock two devices simultaneously (you'd need the help of two different VZW users for that). You only get one unlock every 10 months, which means the person who calls for an unlock for you forfeits their unlock option for 10 months.
Second, the phone must be activated on a VZW line of service.
There are other requirements. Try getting past these two first.
i can help you, i have a real verizon contact who sells the REAL codes, $43 trough paypal, guaranteed, i tried at last 8 codes from different sellers and i found the real one!
43? That's worth half the phone
and I thought that ~$20 for an unlock code was expensive (seller claims to have new database ebay) << Tried and doesn't work, seller just refunded my money..

So do you have access to Verizon's DB? As the poster said, these phones have had their codes changed from the Motorola settings.

They don't necessarily give you one unlock code every 10 months. I got a used droid 2 global from Ebay activated it on my line they unlocked it. Less than a week later I called them and got the unlock code for my own incredible 2 also activated on same line. I only have 1 line of service. Both times I had to be kicked up to their "Unlock department" because I didn't have a foreign sim. I have had Verizon service for 3 years come dec. so maybe that had something to do with it.
Well, maybe you will agree to help me with my phone for some payment - or maybe both of them in future?

I tried to get my SGS II Skyrocket from AT&T unlocked for use with local sim cards when I travel internationally later this month. But AT&T reps say they could not find an unlock code for it! Tried with Samsung too... but they want me to call AT&T
Did anybody have any luck getting the phone unlocked from AT&T?

Please show me a link.
I called and asked for my unlock code. A nice rep took a while to find the info to tell me. He said with less than one year left on my contract, I could get an unlock code. I have more than a year left. Also I have heard they are legaly required to give you an unlock code when your contract does expire.
SIM Unlock Code
If you had the phone for over 6 months, you can request for the SIM unlock code. The reps will tell you they don't have the code, and give you the run around that it's not available. Not true. Ask to speak to a supervisor, and ask him/her to put in a case (ticket number) to request for a SIM Unlock code based on your IMEI number. Once they do that, you'll have to wait about 4 days for the code to arrive. I got mine on June 27, 4 days after I requested it. I had my phone since Oct/Nov 2011. Good luck!

you can get an unlock code or unlock it via cable via SRS software.
We have been doing this since 2006.

Note that if you have flashed custom roms this might cause problems for unlocking so first unlock then flash a custom rom. If you want to unlock after flashing a custom rom, flash back to original first!
Providers are often behind with their databases with unlock codes and also they are never able to provide unfreeze codes as they simply do not have them.
AT&T Skyrocket SIM Unlock
I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and the Federal Communications Commission. I also e-mailed the president of AT&T. Today is the third day after the BBB complaint. Someone from the office of the president called me today in regards to my BBB complaint. She gave me the SIM unlock code for my Skyrocket. The presidents e-mail addresses are [email protected] and [email protected]. Good Luck!
Check this out bro. Works and I tested it. It works

So I emailed LG at [email protected] the following message:
Code:
Hello, I need the instructions to unlock the bootloader for my H810. Please send them. Thank you!
Five days later they responded:
Code:
Hello,
We are sorry to inform you that currently we have no plan to support bootloader unlock on LG H810.
Currently, the LG H815 (G4) for the European market supports unlocking the bootloader.
We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause.
For more information on unlocking the bootloader, please refer to the link below:
http://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev?categoryTypeCode=ANRS
Best Regards,
LG Developer site Team
So when they said on their site here
Code:
We will add more devices with unlockable bootloaders unlocking permission progressively.
After giving instructions on how to unlock the bootloader for the H815, it seems a bit... misleading.
What's the confusion here? At the directive of the carriers, LG isn't about to give us full control of our device. At least not voluntarily.
You act like this is some how news that we hadn't already known for years... AT&T doesn't want us to unlock our Bootloaders END of story.
ATT has always been about locked bootloaders.
We've never expected to get one offically....
What about the new rule on unlocking devices recently approved? Can rhat be used in our favor and force an official unlock from them?
Your talking about carriers having to domestic unlock a device. That only applies to carrier usage. Doesn't help us in this case.
Sent from my LG-H810 using XDA Free mobile app
AT&T wouldn't even give me a carrier unlock code till I had completely paid off my phone. I wanted to pay it off completely, so I went to my online bill payment. There is NO option to pay for the phone. I must call customer service and give someone my credit card #. They found some loop-hole to get out of unlocking 2 of my phones now. Bad AT&T!!!
The the bootloader going to be unlockable on verizon, like the nexus 6? The article about variants confused me a lot.
Same.
Is there any downsides from purchasing from google vs Verizon? Will we get access to the same LTE bands, etc.?
In the past, have google versions of phones have come with unlocked bootloaders but verizon come with locked versions of the same devices?
Having to put a fresh ding on your credit is if you want a payment plan is a downside. Also no free Daydream.
Doubtful. See article: http://www.xda-developers.com/jcase-verizon-pixel-phone-may-not-be-bootloader-unlockable/
Early indicators are that the verizon one will be locked up hard and no way to unlock. At least not without a hack. Potential problem that has been around for a while, is that verizon, being verizon, is unlikely to permit units not sold BY verizon to connect to verizon.
In other words, you have an evil provider.
Does anyone have a link to the "article about variants"? I had trouble finding it.
Where did you see that Daydream is not included in the payment plan?
I have no inside information to add to the leaks that have already been made, but I think it's worth waiting and seeing.
Today's tweets suggesting that the VZW Pixels will not have an unlockable bootloader contradict previous leaks. The previous leaks come with supporting evidence - specifically I'm referring to this post: https://plus.google.com/+NathanBenis/posts/UaGDjHDikgi
At the time, this deliberately cryptic post was widely misinterpreted by the press, who simply deduced that the Pixel could be carrier SIM-locked and/or prevent bootloader unlocking. What they missed is that the two are LINKED - a carrier SIM-locked device will prohibit bootloader unlocking.
Presumably this means a few things:
1. Verizon is prohibited from carrier-locking by the FCC (per their 700Mhz D block spectrum purchase agreement), so my money is that VZW devices will also be bootloader-unlockable out of the box.
2. There are many ways to remove a SIM carrier lock; e.g., obtain a code from your carrier (often free for members of the military, or if your account has been in good standing for many months, or your device contract is paid off, etc) or obtained from internet code generators for a ~$20 fee. It stands to reason that inputting a code obtained from any of these avenues could also allow for bootloader unlocking.
"Confirmed: the Verizon Pixel's bootloader will not be unlockable"
http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/10/04/confirmed-verizon-pixels-bootloader-will-not-unlockable/
Thanks for the response, the $550 htc 10 is way more tempting though
Yeah, is this true?
I can tell you with 100% certainty that it's locked. - Source not those two.
Well, all bootloaders come locked. The question is can it be unlocked? I don't disagree that the vzw one will not be unlockable, but that means there has to be a different sku/model just for the verizon one. I haven't seen any details on this, but if there is a definite, different sku/model, then I'm pretty sure the vzw will not be unlockable. If not, I don't know, maybe it will be unlockable.
The only difference in the VZW variant is that its bootloader is locked. Aside from that, all the bands are the same, and it is NOT carrier locked.
Your first and second points could not be more wrong. SIM lock has no relation to bootloader lock. Every Verizon smart phone I've owned has been SIM unlocked and bootloader locked.
