How to know if your phone is stuck in a bootloop. - Samsung Galaxy R i9103

Hi guys
I always wondered how to know if your phone is stuck in a bootloop and did a lot of research of my own and found that if the phone is stuck in a bootloop the LED of the phone and the screen will not dim after a certain amount of time . Bootloop is the problem when your phone doesn't start, it remains on the boot sequence
Bootloops are mainly caused because system files interfering with each other which causes instability and/or crashes at the boot sequence.*To find the cause of a bootloop you have to think about what you did before getting the bootloop.Choose one of the following reasons that caused the bootloop for you and try out its solution.- After flashing a new rom
*If you flash a new (base)rom with odin your /data will be kept. This means your old dalvik-cache will be used for the new system files which would result in a bootloop, to fix this problem:
1. Start your phone in CWM Recovery
2. Go to Advanced
3. Choose "Wipe dalvik-cache"
4. Now go to "Mounts & Storage"
5. Choose "Wipe /cache"
6. Reboot your phone if the problems still exists after doing that and you're sure it's not related to the rom, then you need to do this:
1. Start your phone in CWM Recovery
2. Now go to "Mounts & Storage"
3. Choose "Wipe /data"
4. Choose "Wipe /cache"
5. Reboot your phone
Wanna go back to stock firmware see below
1 Open odin 1.85 download here
http://www.mediafire.com/?36mcl2rs5gwrvsj
2) Shut down your phone completely and make sure it is unplugged from ur PC.
3) Enter download mode by holding down the Volume down and center button and turning on the phone.
4) Press Volume up to continue
5) Run Odin on ur PC and select F. reset time and auto reboot and click on pda and browse for your stock firmware tar or .md5
6) Connect your phone to ur PC and Odin will detect ur phone and the COM ID turns yellow.
7) Click on Start and let Odin flash your phone. Wait for the Green Light and let ur phone restart.
You can also learn how to use logcat from here

QED(quite easily done ) this was basically a clue to find if your phone is in bootloop or not I inserted the tutorial to make sure you guys dont keep on checking other post !!!!

Sometimes the cwm backup which is restored causes some system errors I have experienced them myself and I don't want to contradict your post but what I experienced in posted that's all. I appreciate your question vipul u can check my signature

Personally I never experienced boot loops after a cwm restore.. restored cm10 to ICS and vice versa.. and if I ever ocassionally got a boot loop then the regular wiping always solved it..just my personal experience..

There are plenty of situations in which the screen dims and LEDs flash up, but the phone is still in a bootloop.

No download mode on phone. Is it gone for good, then?

So, I am running MIUI, which has problems with tethering. I decided to go for the latest value pack released by samsung. As said in the thread, I repartitioned my phone, using latona.pit. Now, I was supposed to reboot and go back to download mode to install any xxkpe rom, to continue with flashing. But, my phone just show a black screen, with no info. Download mode is not working. Odin does not detect the phone either.
Any suggestions? I am trying to reflash the pit file, again to make sure, and scouring over the forums, in the meantime. Let me know, if I am missing something.

Did that. Wasn't working for a couple times, panicked, and posted here. Thought, it might have something to do with that value pack itself, so posted there too. Didn't know, two posts counted as spamming. What a way to encourage participation. Thanks a lot.
Update on issue:
Tried taking out battery and reinserting everything. Multiple restarts, and somehow got odin to detect it. Still no screen for download mode. Tried flashing the firmware, and is stuck in a boot loop now. What next?

Volume Down + Home Key + Power to get to download mode.
I use Odin to flash. I have 3.0 version, which shows blue icon on the com port, the phone is connected to, instead of yellow from older versions. To flash pit, I used the button saying pit to select pit file. Default options, that have auto-reboot, and F. Reset Time enabled. Everything else, is disabled.
Same method for flashing firmware. Only thing, I select pda option instead of pit, while selecting the file. Odin says, pass for both times, that is flashing with pit, and flashing with actual rom.
There is no download screen, one that says "Downloading target", or something like that. Earlier, it was not even getting detected in Odin, which is solved after multiple reboot. After flashing rom, it gets stuck in boot loop.
Not sure, if I should change any option in Odin, so I haven't tried that.
I've encountered such an issue with a couple of ROMs that i tried on my other device(mi-280).
Try flashing the ROM twice then try to reboot. I did clear cache and dalvik cache between 2 flashes(not sure why). Worked for me.

Phone is stuck in boot loop, so can't clear any cache. Rom is stock, so there is no CWM recovery mode. Flashing twice is good idea. Will try it out and post result soon. Also, downloading another rom. This hotfile uploading is a bit of a hit-and-miss for me, as power cuts are way too frequent here. It is possible that rom might be faulty.
Edit:
Same result. Still stuck in boot loop. Flashing twice didn't worked.
Its better to flash xxkpe firmware twice & check whether phone boot properly or not. If everything goes well then flash ddlf2 stock rom.

Downloading the same. Power cut for 3 hours made me stop it earlier. I had xxkpq earlier, which is not working. I thought xxkpq was also an official release, so it should have worked.

[Q] rooting samsung galaxy note 10.1

i tried to find this answer for this but i couldn't
anyway i am in a few days getting a samsung galaxy note 10.1 for the purpose of recording vice city android with the app called screencast
screencast requires rooting
since ihave no idea AT ALL about current generation phones (not bothered getting one so i don't know anything in terms of phones past the original iphone)
i would like to know exactly what rooting is and what to do i have no idea what rooting is my guess is that its like flashing a psps firmware and that theres a ton of different rooting let's say files
i would like to root my galaxy note 10.1 the cleanest way possible meaning i JUST want superuser permission for screencast to work properly i don't want any custom roms or anything changed past what i need
so now to my question can anyone help me with this and tell me the best cleanest way to root assuming theres different kind of rooting some which are bloated some which are clean
as mentiond i just need superuser permision for screencast nothing else so i would like a guide on how to do this
thankyou

Search for cf root for galaxy note 10.1 , and use triangle away after that for waranty
Sent from my GT-N8000 using xda app-developers app
First off this belongs in the Q&A section and the search button on this site and google work wonders. With that said, rooting gives you the ability to right/alter the system files. See zedomaxs site for instructions on how to root. http://rootgalaxynote.com/. Use the clockworkmod method. Make sure you use the files for your particular model and software. Good luck and happy rooting.

i found this video by rootgalaxynote
i could not post the video link due to a spam protection thing
however there are a few questions regarding this
should you instantly move over the files as it is downloading or should you wait untill it is finished?
as in the video he entered the warning unsupported os screen through power plus vol button then it proceeded to something downloading but he then instantly wen't in your pc to move over the files
should you wait for it to finish downloading or whatever it's doing or can you start right away? and what would waiting for it to finish mean how would you know it's finished? what will it show when it's finished
my other question is some say you need to uncheck the auto reboot checkmark as it will otherwise erase it on reboot
so when i open odin should i simply uncheck auto reboot then add the file then press start wait for it to finish
then what? since it won't auto reboot
thankyou

Wait till the files are done downloading. If your using the clockworkmod method first to make things simple make sure you already have the superuser zip on your sdcard or internal sdcard then flash the cwm recovery through Odin. Yes make sure you uncheck auto reboot because it will automatically reflash stock recovery upon booting up. You will know recovery is done flashing through Odin when you see in green "pass" then you can unplug and boot into recovery right from the download mode. Don't boot into system yet because as stated earlier your kernel will rewrite recovery upon booting into system. Then when you are in recovery choose flash zip from sdcard and find the superuser zip and flash it. It will tell you when its done, you should see zip flashed successful. Then reboot into system. Oh touch screen is a little finicky when you are in recovery so use volume buttons to navigate and power to select

so 1 copy over the file to the tablet either sd card or the tablet itself?
then press the vol down button plus power button to get the warning screen then press vol up to accept
then comes my question can i let it work untill it's finished or should i move instantly to my pc and start odin
so for example
(it's connected to the pc) and it starts downloading showing the do not turn off target i just wait untill it stops doing something then i go to my pc open odin see the yellow com sign uncheck auto reboot press pda select the tar file press start let it work then
then what happens next when it's finished will it just sit there doing nothing since it won't reboot by itself do i need to do this manually?
thankyou
Ok I see what your saying, once your past the warning screen its not actually doing anything. It's waiting for you to run odin
Once Odin is done flashing recovery and you see pass in green you can unplug your tablet and hold volume up and power and it will boot into recovery

seems alot more simple then i thought rooting was

Just remember to install triangleaway then run it after you have CWM installed... This will reset the flash counter to 0. It will confirm what model of tab you have and download a few files then you can reset your flash counter.
This is needed if you have to return your tab under warranty and also for usage with some apps and hardware...

Hoss is right, Cf auto root is an easier and faster method and it will save you some work when the jelly bean update is rolled out. You will be able to just accept the OTA update, but you may have to reroot once the process is done. As you can see is not that big of a deal to do anyway. Chainfire gives a good guide to follow for his autoroot. And as also stated above consider using triangle away so you can keep your warranty completely intact.

Stuck in boot, have cwm

Hi there. I had a stock S4g, had froyo 2.2.1. I Rooted the phone. That went fine. I went to install a new kernel (baliSGS4G) The instal got interrupted, second reboot had the android logo flashing while the normal galaxy s logo was on, so I knew from there it was screwed up...
It booted up fine actually, and i was able to operate around in on the phone, altho the home button didnt work... I went ahead and tried a restart to see what it would do and it would stick at the galaxy s boot screen and the voice would say "restore operation" and just reboot and be stuck on a boot loop...
I CANNOT get into recovery mode UNLESS I remove my sdcard... if I do I CAN... BUT it seems as tho the cwm recover is somewhat useless to me now that the sdcard isnt in.... If I boot into recovery and THEN put the card in, it saws E: Can't mount /sdcard..
Ive tried wipe cache partition, wipe data/factory reset... nothing..
Any suggestions? THankyou!

Ok Lumin, I did what you said and I am getting to the command promt and it is not seeing my phone, It still shows the phone is disconnected... I have CWM recovery, is that an issue?? That opens when i hold the up,down,up button combo, not the stock download mode screen.
Very well written tutorial btw.

Try One-Click Gremlin Remover to flash and fix. Found this to be easier than Heimdall for the uninitiated: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1500427
1 Open Gremlin remover on PC
2. Remove battery from phone
3. Hold down both the Up and Down on the Volume Rocker
4. Plug Phone into USB (without battery)
5. Insert battery into phone and replace cover
The phone should automatically boot into Download mode, and Gremlin Remover should recognize the phone. This should wipe it back to stock but leave it rooted. Then you can start again. I recommend the SGS Kernel Flasher App to flash new kernels in the future. Much less prone to error.

You might refrain from recommending a different flashing utility (ODIN) when somebody has already started using Heimdall and is just asking for help to finish the process. All you are doing is inviting more problems with driver and USB port issues by doing so. You gave him a simple set of instructions that mentioned nothing about drivers.
And SGS Kernel Flasher is great but it only works properly on our GB ROMs.

After flashing stock ics, phone dont boot, help please

first of all, sorry for my bad English, try to be as clear as possible
Accidentally i flash a rom in system 1 with bmm..... a warning appeared when I rebooted the phone
"bmm menu would not be available in the next reboot" then I went to the system keeper option and reinstall bmm ..... when i tried to reboot the phone the same message appeared on the screen again .... "bmm menu would not be ..."
then i decided to flash ics stock (as I always do when i have a problem) , i put the phone in ap FastBoot .. Select the firmware and started the rsd process
all ended well ... unplug the phone and restart
ohh surprise! ... The phone does not boot, i cant even see the motorola logo, the phone just stuck there
Additional detail: this is the first time i flash firmware after losing my cid
Can someone help me?
Thanks in advance
Boot by bp tool
Steps
1. Press power button ,vol+ & vol- simultaneously
2. Select bp tool here and it will boot.
Best of luck

if i re flash the firmware with rsd, the procces finish well, but the phone do the boot loop again
i dont know what else i can do :crying:
I've been thinking about buying a nexus 4 ... maybe it's time to do it.

Try Factory Reset and Clear Cache from Stock Recovery.
I've tried that too, but nothing happens ...
Again I clarify the symptoms:
Point 1 - When the phone starts, shows the motorola logo and the message "Error CustomerID Contact Dealer Boot to Suspend / MDCT mode: 0000:00000000:000000 cc.". Then the screen gets black and nothing happens
Point 2-If I turn on the phone by holding down the volume keys (+ / -) and the power button (boot mode selection menu) and select any of the options ... the screen goes black and nothing happens
Point 3 - If I turn on the phone by holding down the volume key (-) and the power button (ap fastboot flash mode) ... I can connect the phone, start and finish the flashing process correctly. When the process ends it happens again point 1 or point 2
It may be a hardware failure?

Last, but not the least, I hope you are using the correct FXZ file for your region?
EDIT
@mithun23
after flashing attempt number six:
I could enter the bp tools mode, the phone boot, and it works. What i can do in this mode?
Why I still can not boot normally?

Good man u booted...
Well since ur cid is lost u cannot boot normally..u can boot only using bp tool.
Install bmm from Google play..then u will be able to boot normally.

I installed bmm, but there is a problem ... boot menu manager requires root ...
when I try to root the phone, the process automatically restarts the phone and gets stuck on the motorola logo (since it no longer resets normally) ... then the root process can never be completed :crying:
I will continue doing more tests
when the phone starts normally, something similar to the root process of jelly bean leak happens ...
the method for jelly bean leak was something like this (the swapp method):
1 - the phone began in ap fastboot mode
2 - using a command line, the ics boot.img sends to the phone
3 - then the phone is unplugged from the usb cable and restarted
4 - the phone boots and gets a black screen
5 - plug the phone to the usb cable again and run the root tool for ics
5 - the phone restart 3 times (the root process is done)
6 - restart the phone in ap fast boot again
7 - using a command line, the jelly bean boot.img sends to the phone
8 - restart the phone and all is done
so....what is happening with my atrix 2 is something like step 4, is like boot.img is missing or corrupted
SOLVED : I boot using bp tools, then i found a root method that works , finally i get my phone rooted...so i've installed bmm and booted fine again....thx to those who takes the time to answer in this post

If BMM is not appearing at startup, then FXZ is only option !!
FXZ (with your region)---->>root--->> install BMM---->> flash ROM.
Watch BMM video tutorial available in general section, for proper BMM usage

Press and hold the power, volume down and home buttons at
the same time until you see the download mode option screen.
Once you see that press the volume up key one time.
After that while the phone is in download mode press volumeUP, VolumeDown,
Power and the Home key all at the same time until the screen turns black.
Once the screen is black you need to instantly let go of the volume down key.
If you do everything right the phone will go into twrp recovery and there you
can choose to power down the phone or do anything else in twrp.
Good luck,
Remember that it takes a bit of practice getting to twrp recovery while the
phone is NOT powered down, you have to be fast and accurate.
WOW --- Thank you thank you. I got back to TWRP now.
Your great.
Cheers

#1: go here and download @jovy23 's "Stock-Modified" kernel.
#2: Go into twrp recovery
#3: copy the kernel zip file into your internal sdcard
#4: In twrp recovery do an advanced wipe but un-check everything in advanced wipe except DATA
(you need to wipe only the DATA)
#5: flash the zip file kernel in twrp and reboot.
Your phone will no longer be stuck at the start screen.
Good luck!

OK UPDATE:
I got the phone to boot to download mode. I also have odin running. I went ahead and flashed tock_Modified_Kernel+Auto-Root-Busybox+TWRP-2.8.7.1_N920T.tar.md5 via Odin. It passed the instal/flash just fine, but now the phone just boots into download mode only.
So I am really no better off now, just a new set of problems.
PLEASE HELP ME. Im desperate. nothing is working. I will try anything at this point. Again I only have it booting to download and/or TWRP. I have Odin running and connected.
Thanks
I am sorry for all the posts here ... but I am really starting to worry that I might have bricked my $800 phone.
With the phone OFF I hit power button. Phone just boots to the Samsung Android screen (the very first screen) and just hangs there.
So I assume i have lost or messed up my kernal. I have wiped all and factory reset. I have tried flashing a new ROM, but it always just does the same thing...boot to that first screen and hang.
I can boot into TWRP (v2.8.x.x) and tried to flash a kernel from there. It seems to flash and complete, but after reboot again it hangs at that first screen.
I also can boot in download mode. I have played around with Odin a bit. I flashed stock_Modified_Kernel+Auto-Root-Busybox+TWRP-2.8.7.1_N920T.tar.md5 and again
it completes the flash, but when I reboot it still hangs. Arghhhhh I am lost. I dont know what else I should try. I assume I need to flash something via odin but what .
Please help me if you can. I use this phone for work every day and have been without it now for 48 hours
Help !
John
PS... I HAVE A FULL WORKING INTERNAL BACKUP of my phone on my PC.

Using Odin I was able to successfully flash TWRP v3.0.2-1. The only issue now is when I boot the phone it goes
to the official update screen with the green android guy, but he is laying down on his back with a RED triangle on his stomach.
What should I do now please ..... ??? anyone ????
Thank you
