I cannot find a suitable place to put this except for here, so sorry for that.
So, I was having a problem where the app "App Trailers" wasn't playing anything, so I thought maybe my root was messing it up, so I followed a video step-by-step without watching it trough first. I was supposed to delete "su" but it was not there so I deleted "sh" and he showed in the next step, not to worry if it's not there go to xbin and I found it there and deleted su and everything related to it from "Xbin". After re-booting, everything was fine, and the root was removed, but my wifi just gave "error" no info. So I read a bit on the internet and it said to try clear cache and restore factory settings but that did not work, so I re-rooted, and still same problem, any tips?
-Many thanks.
bump.

So all the sudden i have "android.process.media" force closing it happened like four times so i tried rebooting. Still happened after the reboot and i noticed i lost my ringtones. Finally my phone just rebooted now im stuck on the endless android screen! Any ideas what could have gone wrong.
Oh and by the way this just started today but i've been having android.process.core force closing alot ever since i got the phone.
UPDATE: So i have apps to sd maybe this could be part of the problem. I have booted into recovery and typed
su
cd /system/sd
it returns cant access
Maybe i can move all apps back to phone via recovery terminal I just dont know what the commands to do this would be. Also i am at work so i cant use adb.
OK first off i want to start off with always backup everything before anything
i finally got it working i had to reverse all the scripts to move my apps, data, etc. work but kept rebooting finnally i did a wipe worked... somewhat.... but wouldnt log into google so i created a new password that worked. thanks to everyone for their help (cough)
Solved
Hi,
i solved this problem on my Hero making a complete wipe of my SD card.
Has anyone found a quick way to fix the "appname unsuccessful" installer failure on the Xoom? I cannot install or update any apps as of this morning.
A Google of the problem does not come up with anything Xoom/Honeycomb specific but says that on other devices the procedure is to delete smdl2tmp1.asec from the .android_secure folder. However I cannot find this folder or file? I have Astro and ES explorer but neither can see the folder (I have show system files on) and nor can windows when it is connected by USB.
My Xoom is un-rooted and I cannot install any apps like root explorer (which may help) due to the fault.
Apparently a hard reset fixes it to but frankly it took so long to set the thing up how I want, I would like to avoid this if at all possible!
Thanks in advance,
Jim
Have you gone to settings/apps/manage apps/all tab/market/force stop/wipe data
Thanks for the reply.
Sorry, I should have mentioned but I have tried that - not working.
I am currently in process of backing up all 30 ish Gb to laptop to do factory reset if I cannot find an answer by this evening :-(
Did anyone try to backup the way suggested in this thread?
It'd be great, if it worked: a full backup (apps, settings, everything) without needing to root. I'm trying this right now, but when the phone prompts me to allow backup I tap on the "allow backup" button but it's if it weren't tapped (nothing happens, not even the tapping animation).
Someone tried this?
Edit: it would also allow access to some files that are unaccessible without root...

I've tried by running the various adb backup options manually on Stock 2.21, but haven't had much luck, although got further than you. It will get part of the way through the backup, but silently errors out after a few packages and shows backup complete (when I know it isn't). Removing a problem app just results in it failing on the next one. On my Nexus 7 it works as expected, so there may be a bug in the stock version. Would be interesting if someone with CM or anything non stock could comment.

Agree, would be interesting to see if the issue is related to HTC rom.
I've read on the Nexus 7 subforum that a user is stuck at my same point. I wonder what's causing this...
I had no luck either, although it has been awhile since I tried. I thought I read something on the original documention that made it sound like I wouldn't have any luck. Forget what it was now--
I was able to get this to work with my wifes stock unrooted one s (still on android 4.03 and sense 4.0).
in developer options you need to specify a password BEFORE you start the backup and enter that password on the "full backup" start screen.
i also couldnt get it to create a file for the backup in C:\ so i created a folder, and put it in there, but made sure to check permissions and that the folder was not read only.
I havent restored the data yet, but actually getting the backup file and it being an appropriate size (about 680mb), i would say i am optimistic about the results.
I will report back after i root and update the OS.
Okay guys, i wasnt too sure where to post this so yea feel free to move it to its right destination haha
so, I have a rooted Moto G xt1032
everything was fine till a couple of days ago.
then all of a sudden i couldn't connect to the playstore. I thought it was a problem with my internet connection but after a while i realised it wasnt. so i unlinked and removed my gmail account. When i tried to relink it to my phone, it said "cant establish a reliable connection to the server."
then everything went haywire with my phone and a few apps kept crashing all the time.
I saw a solution which said to delete the "hosts" file but i couldnt change or delete it because my root explorer app kept crashing all the time.
So i tried factory resetting my phone, hoping that doing so would fix my problem.
But nope -.-
I cant get to my "hosts" file because i dont have a file manager and i cant install a file manager because no downloads get completed for some strange reason.
I've tried clearing the cache and a few stuff from the recovery (not TWRP or CWM) but i could try again if you suggest it.
Is there a way to get CWM or TWRP and then flash another rom? im not too sure but that could fix my problem so yeah
PLEASE HELP D:

Deleting the HOSTs file was not a solution, I know you read it here but it was fake.
I suggest to follow this guide to restore your phone
