android.process.media (delete this thread) - G1 Android Development

So all the sudden i have "android.process.media" force closing it happened like four times so i tried rebooting. Still happened after the reboot and i noticed i lost my ringtones. Finally my phone just rebooted now im stuck on the endless android screen! Any ideas what could have gone wrong.
Oh and by the way this just started today but i've been having android.process.core force closing alot ever since i got the phone.
UPDATE: So i have apps to sd maybe this could be part of the problem. I have booted into recovery and typed
su
cd /system/sd
it returns cant access
Maybe i can move all apps back to phone via recovery terminal I just dont know what the commands to do this would be. Also i am at work so i cant use adb.
OK first off i want to start off with always backup everything before anything
i finally got it working i had to reverse all the scripts to move my apps, data, etc. work but kept rebooting finnally i did a wipe worked... somewhat.... but wouldnt log into google so i created a new password that worked. thanks to everyone for their help (cough)

Solved

"System UIDs Inconsistent" with JF1.5

Hello All:
Here is a rundown...
Started with JF1.42-RC33 with Apps, Data, Dalvik to SD...
Went to JF1.5 without a wipe and then updated the radio.
All of this went fine. Now when I start up the phone, it
gives me the "System UIDs Inconsistent" message. I press
the button and then everything loads fine. All 125 Apps
are there, Market works correctly, notes are still there,
and I have tested every App and there are no issues.
Loving the new ROM by the way... no stability issues so
far.
The message on the phone says to wipe the data. If there
is not other way to get rid of the nagging error then so
be it... I still have my Nandroid backup from the JF1.42
image.
Just wanted to see if there was possibly a way to fix this
in ADB or the recovery console...
Also, it is in my nature to try and understand these things.
Could this have happened because my /data directory is
on the SD and therefore was not cleared during the Flash
process? Just guessing...
Any ideas?

wipe and re-set your symbolic links .. all your apps will be back but not their data..
Thanks... I guess I will just take the easy way out and wipe the phone... I have tried various ADB and busybox commands to no avail... What I do not understand is the phone works perfectly after the Nag screen is gone... No force closes... no missing functionality...
I will not do the wipe until this afternoon... Just in case some Linux guru has any ideas...
L8r,
Vermithrax
Unless the nag screen bothers you, or shows up more than once per boot, Id leave it. If you start seeing instability or forcecloses then Id wipe.
Unless there is a good reason to Id avoid a wipe. Of course I dont have OCD so one nag per reboot wouldnt bother me. If you do or it does bother you then yeah wipe.
Solved... For me at least...
I had solved this problem some time ago, but I just thought I would add this to the thread in case others find their way here through a search...
All I did was move the /data/data back to the internal memory...
rm /data/data
busybox cp -a /system/sd/data /data
rm -r /system/sd/data /data
reboot
Had a couple of stale NFS file errors, so I could not really delete the /data directory from the /system/sd. However, there are threads that help with this issue.
Probably the cleanest solution HERE

Angry birds pigs wont die after 1.4.2 update and data restore??

So I have had issue after issue getting the new version to even INSTALL.. but finally got it after totally deleting the older 1.3.5 version and wiping cache, restart etc.. new install of 1.4.2.. everything works fine....
BUT....
After using titanium backup to restore data there is some kind of bug that makes the birds virtually worthless. I get the data back (levels etc) but when I go try to beat an old level the birds litterally bounce off the pigs without causing ANY damage.
Ive done this 3 different time now, totally removing the game, reinstalling, verified to work "normal" before data restore... and again, not working after the data is refreshed.
PLEASE HELP!

Fix for "Application not installed message" and "Installation unsuccessful" on Rooted HTC Hero with FroydVillain 1.5.
I couldn't install Angry Birds and some other applications on the Market after installing
FroydVillain 1.5 and after some debugging I found out why. There seems to be a problem related to
the file "/mnt/secure/asec/smd12tmp1.asec".
Solution: Delete the corrupt file with a terminal app and also delete the market data to be sure.
1. Get "Terminal Emulator" or another terminal app from the Market.
2. Run the "Terminal Emulator".
3. Write:
su (ENTER)
rm /mnt/secure/asec/smd12tmp1.asec (ENTER)
rm /data/data/com.android.vending/cache/* (ENTER)
4. Exit the emulator, reboot and try to install the failing application again.
5. If the above doesn't solve your problem try the following:
- Wiping cache
- Wiping dalvik cache
6. If this doesn't fix your problem just wipe the phone and reinstall everything

It SEEMS to have worked!
I know this is kind of an obscure problem that no one else will probably ever have, but figured Id update it just the same.
same thing happened to me, I just restored the older version with the data and then updated the app over the market..worked fine after that
i could never get it to update over the market for some reason... always had to unmount the SD to get it to work.. but couldnt install from the market or save to phone without SD in.
I ended up saving to sd and using root explorer to move it onto the phone, unmount sd, do a cache wipe, install from phone, remount sd. whew!
its updated now and i have successfully done a titanium backup several times. (Thank God)
I have similar issues with fruit ninja attempting to update but just gave up on that one.

Cyanogenmod 7: Cannot download apps

I've installed Cyanogenmod 7 today on my Motorola Defy. It works nice, but I cannot install any apps from the market. They start downloading, but immediatly stop and it briefly says 'download failure'.
I've been looking into this and it appears it could be a problem with the cache space.
What I've tried so far:
- Wiping cache from market, download manager..
- Wiping cache partition in boot menu
- I've also tried creating a cache on the sd card in terminal emulator. I have found a command on the internet that should work, but when I start it states 'mkdir: no permission to create directory'..
I'm really tired of looking into this now, I hope anyone knows a fix for this. Thanks!
I had the same issue occur on my DeFroST HTC Desire.
I've tried wiping marked cache and what not -- didn't work.
BUT -- the next day it for some reason started to work and worked without issue since. Maybe the problem wasn't actually on my end -- maybe in your case it is the same -- see if waiting a day helps?

[Q] How to delete files permanently in ADB?

My P1000 shut down randomly, so I tried to put everything new on it. After flash and all the other stuff it won't run properly anymore. Everytime I get 'System UIDs Inconsistent'. used Odin and Heimdall, I did wipe the data and the cache, I can see with ADB it is gone, but after reboot all the corrupt apps and system failures are back again. I installed several different firmwares, nothing worked.
I have changed permissions with chmod and deleted by hand several files, amongst them the everytime restarting but crashing apps like skype and whatsapp.
When I perform wipe, delete, rename or move actions in ADB the results are what I wanted. But when I restart everything is back again. I even deleted almost anything, did not work.
This happened in all the roms I installed, so it must be a problem in the filesystem or so. Any idea how to permanently delete stuff while in adb shell? I already gave myself all the rights on the tablet, synced it after the deletes, nothing works.
Or does anybody know how to start from scratch?
I cannot start the tab anymore in normal mode, but I do have recovery mode and overcome cwm.
best of luck

try plugging it up while its in cwm and access the adb shell while its displaying. the prompt should be ~# if its universal. maybe you can completely wipe everything and flash a recovery at the same time? that may keep it deleted. i dont know. just a suggestion. i hope you succeed... tell me how it goes.
thanks for answering.
i tried all that, even did a complete format of the internal sd card, in adb with parted and also in windows with a mounted card. it says it is deleted, but after reboot it is all back again...
Do you have a backup of a working ROM you can restore?
Crap.... Hmm... Have you tried any formatting software? Try to find a programmer who can wipe it completely, re partition, and reinstall the stock rom. Then try to restore to something before the problems

Use flashtool. I've heard it can unbrick, maybe it'll help???

this Q
With Q???
Recovery rom can be installed, but is gone after reboot. Formatting in windows or linux (adb) performs without errors, but after reboot, yes you guessed right, it is back. So this internal sd card has a life of its own, the only thing I can do is install a working system with flashing, but then no app will work, every activation of whatever app will give inconsistent uids errors. And I cannot install new apps, because vending.apk (market) will crash. I installed vending by hand (adb), then it work for a moment, but after reboot to use it the normal way, again crashed.
AS LONG AS I CANNOT REPLACE THE SDCARD IT IS HOPELESS?!?
This morning I left the unwilling android tab in the power adapter to be fully charged for a new go. But: it is now a real brick. It won't power up any more, the button lights do not flash anymore, the only thing it does, is showing the battery. Never again will I buy such an expensive underdeveloped piece of plastic crap again!
Calm down... You need to boot into recovery mode and try using formatting the sd. If comp can recognize, format the sd with the computer. It's not the android. It's what you did. Sorry
ROOTED Xperia Play 4G 2.3.3
can you read? i did format the sdcard in adb with parted, i did format it on the pc. but when i reboot EVERYTHING is back again. before rebooting it is totally empty. after reboot the old non-working stuff is back.
end of android, no end of samsung for me

[Q] Whtsapp stopped working and now throwing unknown errors

Hi everyone,
I have been using my nexus 5 since 4-5 days now and everything was working fine till last night when whatsapp started giving me errors (unfortunately app has been closed). I uninstalled whatsapp and when I am trying to re install it, its now giving me error "unknown error code on application install -24"
I have tried installing via apk, playstore's website, cleared the cache and data of playstore app, rebooted phone but nothing works.
I am hesitant to root my nexus 5 as there is no official recovery available and people are having issues when rooting the device and I cannot afford to have an unstable phone. Hard reset is an option but I would like to avoid it if possible. I have read that if I delete the related whatsapp folder from data/data folder somehow then it will fix the issue. Is there any way I could access and delete that folder without being rooted or if someone has any other solution to my problem.
Any help is much appreciated

Same thing happened to me, Did you enable ART? Because that's what caused my errors (force closing). After switching back to Dalvik and trying to re-install, i was getting -24 error on the play store. I rebooted a few times and left it for a few hours. Tried again and it worked.
Whatsapp is i believe in-compatible with ART.

Okay, As for as i know, it did fix itself when i rebooted a few times and after a while it just worked.
Things i also tried that might have helped. Clear cache for the playstore which you tried. i would do this again after you switched back to Dalvik. and make sure whatsapp is uninstalled before switching to Dalvik. Once you switch back and have cleared cache from the playstore, try to re-install Whatsapp.
As for the backup, on your phone is a whatsapp folder that has a backup of your messages and photos etc. When you re-install whatsapp it'll pick that up and restore your stuff. There is no need to delete that folder.
I Hope that fixes it for you.

Right so far thats what i did, and thats exactly what happened to me. I just left it for a few hours and tried again it worked. Just give it a few hours and re-try / reboot and re-try.
It didnt work. I had to factory reset my phone eventually and wasted my evening doing all the restores, I wish Android had a seamless backup system something like that of Apple's. Helium/Titanium/mybackup, all of them have some kind of flaws

I am not rooted at the moment so TB wasnt really an option. Helium works fine only for apps and their data but I am looking for something that can restore my phone exactly how it was before the reset including home screens, settings etc without being rooted.

That what you are looking for would be a nandroid backup made in a custom recovery, that restores everything. But not possible without root.
Hi,
I have the same problem. Error -24 if I want to install Whatsapp from Google Play Store. Local installation after downloading the APK from Whatsapp gives also an error (app not installed).
Tried several times to delete the cache and setting of the Play Store app and the Google Framework. Followed by restarts of the phone. Until now I was NOT succesful.
As far as I read on other forums, the problem is, that in data/data/ already exists a Whatsapp-directory and therefore Whatsapp doesn't want to install. You could delete this directory, but only if you are rooted. I avoided this step until now, because it's a new phone with warranty and after rooting, all data ist wiped.
I also tried adb to delete this directory, but same effect. Because the phone is not rooted, I can't remove this directory by remote shell.
Is there no way to clean up such remains WITHOUT root?
Greets,
