[Q] Ink stain on my 8x - Windows Phone 8x by HTC

So i have a small ink blotch on the bottom of my phone.... dont ask me how it got on it! The phone was in my bag.
Was wondering does anyone have and good methods of getting rid of it? I've tried washing up liquid and loads others but it doesn't work!

Buy isopropyl (alcohol) in a pharmacy, that should work......
good cleaning

Yes, rubbing alcohol is the way to go. Don't get too crazy and soak the device in it though.

Q>Cheap case for Dust

I need a cheap case that will mainly keep the pocket dust from getting in and under the screen. I've been using a zip lock bag lately....its ghetto I know...but it does keep the water out and let me use the phone while still inside. Any ideas that are a little more fashionable? I do have 10 dollars in ebay credit
Ziplock bags are great! Yet, extremely Ghetto. How much dust you got, man? I don't keep mine in a case, and I have never gotten dust under the screen. Maybe you need to clean your pockets before you spend money on anything other than a box of Ziplock bags.
It seems to be a somewhat common problem. I'm hoping just a silicone cover will be good enough to cover the bezel. It's that and the front controls that are the places that the dust enters. I live in an area where it rains a lot and I ride a motorcycle so looks like ill have to keep these ziplock bags

You're lucky if you don't get dust under the screen. I often put mine in my pocket and now I have alot of dust under my screen
from what I read there are 2 versions of O1, the one with the sd card near the camera is the one with dust problem. I kept my O1 from the moment I got it in a pocket case and still got some dust under the screen. The dust enters around the keys so you must somehow prevent the dust entering there.
Try with amzer silicone case for O1.

Dust Under Screen

So I finally broke down and ordered a white digitizer after scratching the original one and banging up the bezel pretty good. I did all the work in my kitchen and used surgical gloves to keep the digitizer and LCD as clean as possible but no matter how hard I try I cant get the thing together without a couple specs of dust between the LCD and digitizer.
So to those who have replaced there digitizer on this phone or anyother.. is it impossible to reassemble the phone without ANY dust short of doing it in a clean room or am I just doing it wrong?
When I took my iPhones apart I would always wear gloves and always have a can of compressed air next to me. That and a microfiber cloth that you use to clean glasses with.
Just be very careful.
Yeeeah.. Had a cloth and wore gloves but didnt think about the air. I guess Ill take it apart again and give it a couple bursts to see if that helps. Thanks.
Id say use an ionizing air gun, but then again, at 450$ and up...not really cost effective lol.
Tips that may or may not work.
Clean the glass and apply the screen in a room with more humidity to reduce the amount of dust in the air. The more still the air, the better.
After cleaning, use a fabric softener sheet that has already been used in your laundry, and rub it all over the parts of the electronics that you don’t want dust attracted to. Instead of attracting dust, the electronics will repel dust!
now there's a creative approach. guess I'm doing laundry tomorrow lol
Post a pic. Been pondering on the white diggitizer but not sure if it looks better than black

ill post one when I get home. never buying another black phone again
btw, took the phone back apart and used some compressed air before fitting the lcd back into the digitizer. I was able to get it together with only few specs of dust that are only visible when the screen is off and I. the sun. this I can live with but I'm going to give it one more try to get it 100% dust free. I like the way the lcd fits into digitizer because dust cant creep in once they're fitted together.
Try doing this outside, maybe in your house balcony or something. A house has like 1000 times more dust particles than outdoors.
I think you'll have better luck doing this outdoor.
Spray room freshener or run warm water in bathroom and steam should knock of particle apply within.

the good news is I was able to get the lcd and digitizer together without a single speck of dust. the bad news is after a few days some dust managed to creep in :| trying to think of a way to seal the small gap between the 2 with something other than super glue lol...

I'll swing by the hardware store and pick some up tomorrow appreciate all the input. Broke my heart a little bit to see dust starting to creep in after i finally managed to get the phone back together without a single speck.
Hopefully I'll only have to disassemble one more time. Least a soldering iron wont be involved like during my Vibrant days

Spilled rubbing alcohol on screen! What do i do now?

Spilled rubbing alcohol on screen! luckily it works, but now there is a slight discoloration on the part that got the spill- its been a week and the discoloration has not gone away
So do I need a new lcd or a new touch digitizer (or both) , or should i just take it apart and try to clean first?
None of the h20 damage indicators are pink (all are white and the phone still works) albeit with a bit of discoloration on the screen, like if its a white screen a bit of it is just a slight hue darker (almost like a shadow of something is projecting on the screen at that spot) .... im pissed at myself and love my slide - and was wondering if i should try to take apart and clean any material between the lcd and the touch digitizer glass or how to approach this issue. has anyone else taken apart their phone as per instructions on the forum or gotten parts from the 'repairsuniverse' website?

I would recommend avoiding disassembling if at all possible. Takes about 20-30 min to tear down, and theres a few things that can go wrong during disassembly/reassembly that can result in the phone not working properly. If you have to buy and install a new screen you have no choice, but hopefully someone knows another fix!
I have heard 50/50 mix of isopropyl and water is a good cleaning solution. I have heard windex or vinegar is bad.
I have used 50/50 isopropyl and water with no problems (just enough to damp a microfiber cloth or small cotton rag).
Did you spill enough for it to get behind the digitizer?
Send it into HTC if you haven't had it for a year. If you with TMOUS, and bought this phone in contract. Tell them your screens acts weird when you slide it open. It Blacks out, and the colors distort. Tell send you a new one in the mail (If under HTC warrenty).

im not sure - got the phone off amazon new -- as was cheaper then buying at tmobile and got it Nov 5, 2011 so less than a year.... but then again its rooted and dont know if they will accept it back.
I know i did take off the screen protector and cleaned but that did not fix anything - whatever is discoloring the screen (moisture/residue) is not there so it must be behind the glass, underneath digitizer or on LCD. not sure... is there a way to tell where the "contamination" may be?
Also its been nearly 2 weeks and in CA its been hot as #$%# here so think anything should have evaporated by now (esp rubbing alcohol) so suspect either some residue left behind or it just dried funny.... ill see if i can attach screenshot - sometime later tonight to this post. it still works but you can tell somethings wrong - that makes anything under the areas look slightly darker than surrounding non damaged area (like there is still alcohol still under there but think that's pretty unlikely)

but how do you clean the back of the glass without taking it apart?
I would send it to HTC anyway. I'm pretty sure they'll take it back as is and fix it. But be warned you'll lose root and s-off. They usually reset the phone to the latest release

Custom Paint Job on the Battery Cover - 8/10

was getting bored and tried a custom paint job the battery cover, Have already done one a GSM Galaxy Nexus.
This one did not come out as perfect. Did not sand properly and forgot to put masking tape on the inside.
Personally am a sucker for black red
Nice. Would like to see something more elaborate.
Nice!!! Have any shots of it on the phone...would like to see what it's like all together.
will try to get pictures on the phone once I get home, I did a custom paint job my gnex and that looked sick.

In this case I screwed up as I forgot to tape the insides and also did not sand properly. will see if I have time to redo over the weekend as it takes around 4-5 hours for the whole effort.
Glad you guys like it.
The Black and Red GNex is wicked...I was thinking of painting my case (I drop my phone a lot, a case is a must)...I'll look into to doing this.

Hey munchy_cool,
Im gonna try spraying the white plastic outer shell of the otterbox commuter to black.
Just wanted to know a few things before i get into it..
1. Will a 400 grit sandpaper do ? Couldn't find the 800 one.
2. Also i got this quick drying lacquer spray ( acrylic epoxy) for automobiles, by Bosny, will it be fine.. ?
Couldnt find any adhesion promoter either.. Is it necessary for a lacquer spray ?
3. I found the duplicolor vinyl and fabric and adhesion promoter on ebay, but its way overpriced.. Around 30$ for each can, is it worth buying at that price ? Or will this bosny spray will do.. ?

hey dude, considering you are in India just go to a paint ship in there and they'll do it for less than what it costs you .
Also, a 400 grit should do , just remove the previous layer of paint if any on the otterbox.
I read that the Bosny epoxy is a primer, do you have the color also in the bosny..if that be the case then you do not need Duplicolor.
Just try on a small piece of plastic first to see how it looks, coz it's one way traffic, if you screw up the otterbox will have to repainted.

Otterbox doesnt seem to have any layer, just white molded plastic I guess.
Yup i got the flat black color. Didn't want anything glossy, was gonna try it on an old cover first.. Cause I just recently got this case, don't wanna spoil it.
So the steps are
-Wet sanding
-one layer of the paint
-Let it dry for 10mins
-how many layers should I add ?
Also should I sand the surface after the final layer has dried or is it just for cars ?
Will get on with it by the end of this week and let you know.. Thanks

after wet sanding wash it with water and then let it dry in the sun.
clean with a nylon cloth so as to remove any dust particles etc just before the first layer.
2-3 layers should be good.
do not sand after the last layer, in case after each layer you see that you have paint bubbles at any place just sand that area so as to remove the bubbles ...
all the best and lemme know in case you need any more help
Ok, just tried the paint on a good quality plastic after wet sanding it, 2 layers.. it came out really good.. nice even matt black finish.. even experimented a bit by sanding it again.. still the color didnt go.. so all in all it was a successful expt..
The only thing stopping me from spraying it on my phone cover is that it has this strong chemical smell to it. The can says it is Lead free but i cant imagine using my phone with the cover smelling so pungent. Dropping the plan to paint the cover for now.. lets see if the smell goes away in the coming days..
Thanks for guiding munchy_cool, much appreciated
pictures or it did not happen
haha.. uploading photos now.. btw.. the smell has gone down drastically.. hardly any there actually.. so maybe by tonight or tommorow it'll go away completely
This is the original color, it was just a trial, so didnt really click pics for before and after..
This is after 2 layers and some sanding again on the sprayed paint
nice work there dude ...
how did you make your phone square shaped ?

Cheap Screen,is it good?

Guys i just scratched my screen.I found some cheap replacements for 25eur.
Did someone try them already ?
I think someone asked this question already but i can't find that topic.Thanks.
Sent from my LG-P920 using xda app-developers app
yes i asked that very question , the counterparts are okay didn't have a problem with them.
but buy them with front casing , it's hard to glue them back together , sometimes they don't fit completely due to the residue you probably missed on the front casing some parts of it become higher than the other parts which really bothered me.
If you're going to buy it glass only , be really careful.
Counterparts are not so scratch resistant as the originals.
One wrong move with the razor blade and it's scratched for good.
You would need a heatgun or blowdryer. I used blowdryer.
After heat treatment the original digitizer stops working for some reason.
So you're stuck with the replacement.
Don't ever remove the front screen protector layer before finishing up the work.
If you don't have double sided tape then use a flexible adhesive like shoe glue but i highly recommend double sided tape. I didn't have beautiful results with shoe glue... It bonded allright but i screwed up the casing with the excess glue i tried to remove.
Also , dust is a real problem. Everytime i did it there was some dust in it. I hated it.
You need an air compressor pistol to work it out.
Blowdryer always leaves some in.
And there's the issue of 4 capacitive keys and their backlight.
If you kill the ribbon that's blocking the light out of the screen , the screen is going to be lit up like christmas and you won't be able to see anything.
If you kill that tape , be sure to replace it with a reflective tape.
Take it from someone who knows , don't lose the crystal things that focus the light to the keys. Otherwise you won't be able to even look at the screen. those leds are really bright...
All in all i did it , but wasn't satisfied with the results went to ebay and bought it with frame.
Now , i'm quite happy...
Hope , i helped.
Cheers!
Thank you for your post, it's great!I will order one with frame then. It's too risky to try to replace it with one without frame because if I don't do it right, i will need to wait a lot for another one (Serbia sucks when it comes to buying stuff online ) .Once again thank you so much for your info.
Sent from my LG-P920 using xda app-developers app
No problem at all.
If you have a problem changing it , i can always guide you through it.
Though it's fairly simple with a frame.
Don't order them seperate.
Just don't apply force and you should be fine.
