Because, this is why; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1875192

The reason: drivers and bootloaders.

Drivers, yes. Bootloaders, not really.
Jobless for 6 months, and now under heavy load to help a startup company get going, I've just been too slammed to get moving further. I've talked with TheLastSidekick about sending him his phone back, but he declined and said I could hang on to it a bit longer.
Either way, I'm hoping after a few more bills get paid off (from being out of work so long), that I'll be able to buy an sk4g for me to experiment with hardware modifications to get an sk4g dev phone. Mostly because I don't want to mess up TLS's sidekick.
I've also had some problems with porting sk4g to the teamacid sgs4g 2.6.35.7 kernel. Not that it isn't possible, I'm just short on time. If you know how to hack on kernels, have a usb uart, and an sk4g, let me know. I can share code and builds.
I don't have time to teach kernel development, you'll have to wait for xda-university to come online for that.
So to answer the OP's question: It's being worked on, but very slowly. Sorry about that. I'm still waiting on my time machine to come in the mail so I can stop time and get everything done at once.

Direct from Jean-Baptiste Queru...
Jean-Baptiste Queru
Nexus S went on sale yesterday morning in the US, running Gingerbread.
Just like I did for Froyo, I'm open-sourcing the matching Android
platform source code, right after the first consumers get their hands
on it. I'm going to start literally right now, and the process will
take a few hours.
I'll give more details once the source code is available. However,
there are three aspects that you need to know ahead of time:
-As part of the process to push the source code, there will be some
points in time when the master branch doesn't build. Sorry about that.
If you're working on the master branch, I recommend that you don't
sync until I send an "all clear" when I'm done and things look good.
Other branches are expected to work fine as soon as their manifests
are created.
-Even though Nexus S is designed to be suitable for AOSP work, there
are some caveats. I very strongly recommend against trying to use
Nexus S for anything related to AOSP at the moment. Trying to unlock
or use your Nexus S for AOSP work could easily turn it into a Nexus B
(where B means "brick"); I have two of those, they're not very useful.
I'll send some guidelines about what is currently possible once I've
finished pushing the source code.
-Please take it easy on the kernel.org servers. They are very helpful
in hosting the AOSP source code, and I don't want to hurt the high
quality of their service with an onslaught of full Android downloads.
If you're not going to immediately work on porting Gingerbread to
devices with the intent of distributing the result to end-users, I'm
kindly asking that you wait a few hours or a few days before you
download it (just roll a 6-sided die and wait that long). In addition,
the slower the servers are, the harder it is for me to do the push.
Thanks for being patient.

P.S., And where the hell is BlindType? I thought Google bought them, right? What are they waiting for? I want to be able to text with my eyes closed!

Just a friendly little anecdote for you. Do with it what you will...
I worked tech support in a call center for a large mobile provider and was terminated for posting on forums after they managed to link me to some posts I had made. They did this by monitoring network traffic in the building, which lead them to my computer since I was posting them while at work. I was fired for the content of the posts, although they were all completely harmless, such as your post. They felt I was divulging proprietary information.
For a long time I kicked myself for posting on the forums with my work computer, but really I should have been kicking myself for posting at all, from any device. In the end, just ask yourself if the risk is worth the reward.
Now, the bright side of this, 6 months later I landed a great job as a network admin for a great company.
Oh and about that company I used to work for, their name started with a T and ended with a Mobile.

I think you're missing the bigger point here. As I said in the post, the conclusion I made in the end was that it really wasn't worth it to post at all, regardless of where I was posting. They could just as easily linked me to the posts using other methods, such as overhearing something, or someone tattling. Or maybe I became facebook friends with someone on the forums, and they reported me. There are plenty of ways.
Nevertheless, I did say to do what you will with the story. But seriously, consider the whole risk vs. reward part of it. What are you really getting out of posting small bits of 'insider' information? Probably not much. And believe me, I didn't think I was divulging anything proprietary, but it didn't matter what I thought. My posts were almost identical to yours. I wish someone had said this to me back then (even though I landed a better job in the end).
Anyhow, good luck to you. You probably won't get burned like I did, but as they say... **** happens.
Can someone explain why a rooted phone will not work with the OTA? Is having CWM also an issue? What do I need to do to prepare my phone before the update arrives?
I also do not understand why TMo would not publish the update on their site like they do with all the windows phones.

Absolutely right. I later learned that I wasn't the first to be terminated for posting, and I'm sure I won't be the last.
In my last comment I mentioned that I wish someone had given me this bit of 'advice' long ago, but come to think of it, someone pretty much did. I distinctly remember someone replying to me one day and saying that they know other employees had gotten in trouble for posting. I brushed it off just like this guy/gal.
Just trying to pay it forward

You need to revert back to stock for the update. This is because the update is designed to build on the stock OS, not whatever you have on your phone. As far as rooting it and leaving it stock, not sure what the root does to block the ota.

I can't be positive, but perhaps its not so much rooted as flashed with another ROM. I've heard of rooted phones being updated. I've not heard of cooked ROMs being updated.
But, I know nothing for sure.
I don't know if this means anything other than what it says. But I have tried to connect to get software update and it keeps giving me the old can't connect at this time message. Could it be that the servers on their end are overwhelmed with others trying to do the update if it is indeed out?
And another question...I am not a T-Mo suscriber. I use Simple Mobile. Would the update get pushed to my G2x or would I have to manually install it? Thanks
Thanks guys. I am running rooted stock and stayed that way on purpose so I could get the update. I also stayed stock because my phone runs like a champ. Never had a reboot and everything works as intended.
You are probably better off waiting a few days to let our developers get a hold of it anyway.

When there are 'Official' releases to multiple carriers, then each carrier would get a push, based on their own agreements with LG. If the phone is a regionally sold phone, also called unbranded, a push is made to them also. Most commonly, you see the unbranded phones get the update first, since the carrier testing does not have to be done.
But, in reality..it is all a crap shoot....so you're still waiting, no matter what.
Anyone have any solid information on this though? There are just too many threads of "I just heard the GB update..." with no solid ROM information or even a picture.

So, I was wondering....where does one go to get 'solid' information? We're here in a community forum, using fake names. More than half of us can't vote, work in a burger king or in college. We all have a tendency to read and search and google/bing about the G2x.
I for 1 couldn't tell solid information from rumor. I will say this though...if the information you have, comes from Twitter, Android Police, TMONEWS, or anything with a 'Forum' in front of it....its a rumor. If your great news starts with, " I just talked to a TMobile CS...." its a rumor. If you just talked to your friend, who works in a store or is a TMobile CS agent, its a rumor.
You'll either get an OTA on your phone, and recieve the update which you can prove with a screen shot. Or you'll plug into the LG support tool and update, which you can validate again, with screenshots...
All else is rumors. Please post all rumors in the HTC Sensation forum...where they are living the dream.

You have to pay to download the app from the Team Black Hat website. New leaks from TBH are exclusive to paid supporters through the app for about 48 hours before general release.

no actually i don't see anything wrong with this statement. but I am a bit surprised you do. So you are saying you see nothing wrong with somebody profiting from somebody else work that in reality its work they stole? we can call it a "leak" but none of us actually own it. We didn't create it. So by taking it, we stole it. No different then dl a "leak" movie work print. except p3 is charging for ppl to dl it a little early. Personally i think its a despicable practice but that's my 2 cents.
Look at it this way. Devs pass out custom roms that they work very hard to give us. They often pass them around irc for testing purposes. So lets say Imnuts or team gummy gives you a copy of their newest rom for you to test. You in return upload it to another server and charge ppl to dl early befor they release it. P3 is doing the same exact thing. You see nothing wrong with that?

Yep, we had this argument with most of the Charge users a few months back and it was like 60% in favor of it being bull$hit that P3 profits from stolen leaks. I personally don't agree with his tactics but we already had this huge discussion which ended pretty badly and abruptly. He got the favor in the end because he threatened everyone that he would stop giving us these leaks.
don't get me wrong I'm not saying P3 right or wrong....just saying too wrongs don't make it right...that's my point....
I just hope that nobody here is stupid enough to buy the app simply for early access to this leak. Aside from providing a leak a few hours earlier than the general public, the app is abso-****ing-lutely useless. Its an app that you buy solely for the purpose of obtaining the latest software for your phone? As the site says, the software provided is "sometimes leaked." So thats basically saying that they'll give you what you get from buying your phone or after receiving ota updates anyway, for a small fee of 2.99. And after looking at the site, its clear that team blackhat is just after a few bucks, and instead of making that money like most good devs do (by producing roms/mods/kernels/apps, and relying on donations made to support their work, or by selling useful apps on an app market), they try to dupe you out of a few bucks by offering you what you already have access to simply by coming here or going to other popular android forums. Or they'll unlock your droid pro or droid 2 global for 100 dollars, and for an extra 25 bucks, they'll even provide the shipping! Wow!
Don't buy the app for this leak. Wait a few hours and get it for free. Or wait a few hours more, and get a custom rom all tweaked up and debloated for free.
Is EP3 the 2.3.5 leak?

@elias, the only option you have if you want ICS and don't want to root is to wait for the official OTA which should be rolling out soon. Once you have ICS from the OTA you won't be able to roll back to GB without rooting (someone correct me if I'm wrong on this one)

If you can follow simple, well written instructions you can reap the many benefits of a rooted phone. Btw... you know this is not even close to develeopement, why would you post a question here?

Sure, I guess spending too much time on these forms makes some people complacent and forget that not everyone is a power user.

I think that has very little to do with being a power user. NeXus phones have always been developer based phones made to mod, root, and hack. People that buy these phones, for the most part, buy them because of that and not because they want a vanilla android experience. Of course there are roms out that can get you close to that but I would venture to guess that if you took a pole of neXus users 99% of them want a custom experience, not a vanilla one. So for me to ask why someone would buy a Nexus and not root it is probably a question that a lot of people would be interested in. And nice side ways attempt at a jab with the comment about people spending to much time here. People that are here enjoy their time here. Enjoy learning. Enjoy modding, rooting, hacking. But I don't expect some one with a stock development phone to understand that. You have your hobbies we have ours.

I have yet to meet one the wild that has been used that way.

That is definitely why some people choose a Nexus devices, but there is also a large amount of people who choose them for "quick" updates and a stock experience. It is the only way to achieve those things. Some people probably also choose the Nexus S because it is a really nice, smaller handset with an awesome screen.
Don't forget, some people got them because best buy was giving them away for free.
Not me, although I did get mine for free, I got mine for "fastboot OEM unlock".

As others have said, this was the wrong section for this, but I will not harp on that.
I also want to apologize for a very poor showing from our community. Sometimes this forum is an embarrassment, especially in juxtaposition to other Linux communities. There are a good deal of very arrogant people here, who just cant seem to help jumping all over the new guy. Im surprised no one called you a noob.
With all of that said, I want to agree with your posting above. Speaking as a system admin for a mid-sized company, your reasoning for owning this phone is the exact reason why it has been handed out to every employee here.
Now on to your question. Because of the age of our phone, the development community behind it is very mature. Not the users, but the tools. It is very hard to brick your phone, in fact you might say you would have to go out of your way to truly brick the device. You might get a soft brick, but even that is hard to do and is still easily fixed via ODIN.
As others have said, there are very easy to follow instructions on unlocking and rooting this device. These are not really hacks, as this phone was meant to have these things done to it. I do understand the hesitation, though after the first time you go though doing it, you will wonder what you were so scared of in the first place. You can always give this thread a try, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1250583&highlight=one+click+root
to make things easy on yourself. After you get it rooted, familiarize yourself with making a NAND backup in the custom recovery first thing. This is basically an image backup of your device allowing you to jump back to safety should you do something wrong during a custom rom install.
Here is the way I look at it. If you have your phone rooted with a custom rom and it breaks and you need to return it for some reason, then ODIN will flash you back to stock and you'll have no worries about returning it to Sprint. If you some how destroy your phone to the point where not even ODIN will have access to fix it(AKA your phone goes swimming), then Sprint will not have access to the device either and will have no clue you rooted it. What some of these knuckleheads are poorly trying to get across to you, is that the phone you own, wants to be rooted.
Good luck and welcome to the community.

Yeah, comments on someone's facebook post is far from official. LG even referenced a page that contradicts its own statement. I will just chalk this up to a dumb pr rep and forget this ever happened

I don't know why you guys are so pessimistic. They're the same phone, only different partitions. Do you really think they'll release a rom for one phone then say "Eh changing the partition table is too much work even after recreating all these drivers and framework. "?
I mean they could, but I really doubt it.

The problem is t-mobile and not lg. T-mobile has to install there own apps into the rom and do there own beta tests. That cost money which I'm betting t-mobile isn't willing to spend

LG Optimus x2 and G2x are the same phone just different partitions and are in different country's
Let's just encourage LG. With some encouragement they might do better. After all 2.3.4 was a really good update
Sent from my Handheld Portal Device
I seriously doubt they would go through the trouble of releasing 2.3.4 GB and then release ICS same quarter. The rep never stated that ICS would be released 2nd quarter, they said "an update" will be released 2nd quarter. Well, that update is already here and it ain't ICS. With the G2x being end-of-life, we're lucky to have gotten that, not at the fault of LG but because T-Mobile isn't going to dish out extra money for a phone they no longer sell. They want you to buy the new stuff and renew your contract. It is doubtful that an official ICS update will be released for the T-Mobile G2x simply for this fact, though I guess not impossible. Once the O2X gets its update the developers will have all they need for a "complete and stable" ICS ROM. Who here is going to stick with a stock ROM anyway? Not many.
Either way, even if they just release a P990 (O2X) version that's good enough. They release the source code here:
http://www.lg.com/global/support/opensource/opensource.jsp
When it's released, so the dev's can just modify what's needed from the O2X and make it work for the G2X (like they've done with other ROM's), so don't get your knickers in a knot!

That source is absolutely useless and big time incomplete. They have a lot of binaries and other files they intentionally leave out so it will not build.

What about the P999 on Wind? I don't own it, but as far as I know it doesn't have the T-Mobile stuff. If it's available for that you can easily put it on a G2x.
from now on I will know to get a PURE Google phone like the Galaxy Nexus. this way we will receive all updates when they come out.

OP says ICS update.
Rep says there will be an update.
Rep links to a post about ICS.
I think it's safe to assume they were talking about ICS.

And yet they can never actually say "T-Mobile G2x".
But don't get me wrong, I'm all for an update.
It's just nowadays... I'll believe it when I see it.
I'll believe it when I see some source on my desktop.
