No.
There is no software lock.
It's different hardware.
Non-T Mobile ROMs are affected the same way, using pure AOSP or mods thereof, which hav eno input from T Mobile whatsoever.

Actually, if you take a look at the radio thread, apparently the hardware is the same but the modems are different (something I learned only recently). I have an Australian/Canadian edition of the Sensation which runs on AT&T 4g and I posted my modems in that thread. YMMV though, don't blame anyone if you brick your phone.

You might have roamed into T-Mobile 4G momentarily!!! Just saying.
http://www.gottabemobile.com/2012/02/23/will-t-mobile-usas-4g-lte-network-allow-for-att-4g-roaming/
And it seems AT&T may be using AWS spectrum for 4G (not LTE) in some market. Which is what T-Mobile use everywhere.

[Q] Unlocked Sensation wasnt too Sensational

Im fairly new to the phone game but i know a little bit. I traded my inspire to a Sensation, unlocked it myself. Everything worked finr except my Data i couldnt use the internet in any way. I called 611 (atts customer serv) and they said the connection was rejected. Luckily i was able to convince the guy i got it from to trade me back and give me the extra money i gave him for the trade. Was i just being a dumbass not knowing what to do or is this an issue. On the phone i went into the carrier and APN and it all seemed fine... Just curious because i would still like that phone but of course want my data connection Thanks
Also someone told me that unlocking/flashing phones will drop them down 2 data speeds (4G-2G/EDGE) Is this true?

Stop listening to ignorant people.
As for the problem you encountered, I believe you got the wrong Sensation. You need the Z710a for AT&T.
lianw is correct. Many of us are happily using the z710a on at&t.
Same guy as Smolt here for some reason it wouldnt let me log back in and after an hour of screwing with it and password retievals..... Well here i am... How do you tell the difference between the 2 Sensations? Did you have to call611 and give them the imei # to use data?
Ive got a post under my newly given moniker, if you find the time check it out. Any help is greatly appreciated and always thanked
So you traded the Sensation back to your original phone, so you no longer have a Sensation, and you still want to know why you were having problems?
People don't waste your time trying to figure out his issue, he doesn't have the phone anymore to try and fix it.

Because not only are people wasting their time on answering your question, but you are also cluttering the forum...who knows, you may never get a sensation again or have the issue if you get the correct sensation and this thread them becomes trash.
unless the sensation supports the at&t 4g or 3g bands, you're limited to edge. that's what happened to me when i was using the inspire on t-mobile.
I think only bell or Virgin(from Canada) Sensation have 850 frequency, it is working fine on Rogers with 3g or HSPA after unlock(which i think it should work on at&t as they are using the same band). I hope this could help u a bit. T-mobile sensation doesn't work on at&t because it doesn't support 850.
I'm using the bell sensation z710a and get ATT 3g speeds with no issues.

2 different companies
2 different philosophies
there is no bootloaders to worry about or s-off or any of that crap on samsung phones. its easy to swap out the modems without bricking your device
HTC phones are completely different. swap out the radio and if the radio doesnt work, it will probably brick it.
Samsung has ODIN and Heimdall which are lifesavers when it comes to hacking
HTC has......... RUUs as long as you didnt brick with a bad radio flash
also, the tmo samsung t989 and the skyrocket 727 are the SAME phone....with only a change to some firmware and i believe the positioning of the accellorometer
i really wish that hack had never been discovered because since then, EVERY device that comes out that same question gets asked.....its not fair! they can do it on phone X how come it wont work on phone M?!?
i didnt take all of that stuff into consideration. well i guess i will hold onto my skyrocket for now. thx!
Seeing as the One S gets both AT&T and T-Mobile 3G/4G I assume AT&T purposely blocked the bands because they suck.
Hey guys, try to put all your efforts into this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1610323
Hope isn't lost. It should work, but it won't be as easy as swapping radios from an identical device.

You have to get a device that uses the same bands. Devices in the US use different bands depending on the carrier. You won't be able to do anything about it on the inspire

Do you realize there is a huge difference between CDMA and GSM right. In the us they all use different 3g bands.
You should always research your device before you by it. Mainly if buying a device from another county

The best thing to do is find out what bands your carrier uses. Then compare it to the ones for a phone you like. If att doesn't work then T-Mobile maybe a better option as they use the Euro bands where ATT doesnt

Your best bet is to use probably a t-mobile phone from US or phones from SE asia and europe for indian subcontinent countries. AT&T based 3G phones will probably wont work there...but again like zelendel said, check it out with your service provider first...

Tmobile Sensation 4G on AT&T Help

So I have a Tmobile 4G Sensation and I currently have it unlocked with an AT&T Sim card in it. Any way I can hit up to 3G or 4G? Right now I am only getting up to 2G maximum and it is killing me. I can not text or figure out a way to text using wifi and man is it a pain in the ass where I live. Anybody have a solution or a fix? Thank you in advance. Or just thank you for taking your time to read this thread.

It's not possible to get 3G or higher speed I believe. It's baseband issue. And what do you mean by "text using wifi"? I believe 2G is enough for SMS messages
Yeah, I'm using my tmo sensation on (att) straight talk, and I only get edge. The sensation doesn't have the 850/1900 bands for att
The T-Mobile Sensation is the Z710e model and will not work on AT&T's 3G bands.
To work on AT&T's 3G, you need the Z710a model.
As other have already said, you will only get a Edge(2G) connection using it on AT&T. Also you can not use WiFi Calling on AT&T because that is a service provided by T-Mobile.
Sounds like you should switch back to T-Mobile if possible because edge speeds on sensation are awfully and painfully slow.! If I were you I would switch back so I could get the WiFi calling and 4g speeds back . Personally it would Drive me crazy having to only have edge. I think if you want to enjoy your sensation Again you need to switch back to T-Mobile. I do know by speaking with T-Mobile , that sometimes they share towers with AT&T. So sometimes my device will pick up a AT&T tower. This is what T-Mobile told me. I don't know how accurate that statement is but this is what a service tech told me. Anyway , it might be the best for you just to switch back to T-Mobile. This way you don't have to live with edge all the time! I wish you the best. Good luck.

4G Data Drops

I finally got someone at Verizon to admit that the 4G dropping issue is at the top of the known issue list. Each time I have gone in the store I have been met with 'surprise' that this is an issue. Invariably they have tried to replace my SIM card or phone none of which has worked. The notes on this issue that the phone support person had were rather disturbing.
The first one indicated that this was a known, accepted issue and that the phone was working as intended. Ack!
The second note said that the vendor was working on the issue...IE HTC.
So...onto HTC I go...
The HTC rep also admitted knowing about the problem. He said they were working on a software update to correct this. This of course led to discussion about ICS. According to the HTC rep I spoke with the update has NOT officially been cancelled at this point. He could not say whether or not the fix for the 4G drops they were working involved ICS, but did seem to indicate it might. As usual no remote ETA as to the fix.
Truthfully I could care less about ICS...I would just to have dependable 4G that didn't drop every time I try to use GPS to get home from work, stream music for my kids, or check Facebook.

I just got a new sim and so far so good. What rom and radio are you on? Radio's tend to be a big factor in data dropping.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
Yeah if I run twisted build my 4g will drop but if I use let's say skyraider I have no data drops where ever I go. Many times you need to find the right radio for the rom you use.
Sent from my ThunderBolt using Tapatalk 2
Well...I have tried the .19, the .9 and the leaked ICS radios when I tried the ICS builds. I actually don't know about the leaked radios as I had too many other issues with ICS at this point for me to use regularly...but the .9 and the .19 both give me pretty regular 4G drops. I just dropped back to the .3 radio this morning to see if that helps.
Thanks for chiming in. Maybe I should try another SIM card...only replaced that once...have replaced the phone 3 times now. I spoke with Verizon AGAIN yesterday and was basically told what did I expect with a two year old phone. I guess they expect you to have to buy a new phone every two years to keep them working. Freaking consumer society.
A level 2 tech told me that the drops are also related to the fact that the 4g network isn't fully implemented. What we get most the time is a 4g extension that was put in place to expand the network faster. They also told me that the parts of the network that are a 4g extension get only half the speed of a fully implemented area. The suggestion I was given was just disable 4g when I'm in areas that have spotty coverage which actually helps. The problem seems to show itself on the hand off between 3g and 4g. Almost like the phone gets confused on which network it should be on.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
I think I am in a crappy 4g zone. But now you make me wonder about that...
I'm in an area with solid 4G coverage (I use an LG Revolution). I just installed a ROM on my brother's Thunderbolt for the first time last night, largely prompted by his phone being stuck on 1X regardless of where he is. Sadly, it didn't seem to help, even with trying to flash a few radios. His friend also has a Thunderbolt, and his has no connection problems in the same area. Who knows.
