Hello xda,
I'm a big fan of the Ubuntu distro and I want to buy a smart-phone for the sole purpose of installing Ubuntu onto it. Unfortunately, I do not know much about the capabilities of phones out there.
I've scoured these threads trying to find an Android Phones (or any phone) that people had success with and I haven't been able to come to a firm decision.
I simply want a smart-phone with a QWERTY keyboard and powerful hardware (+1Ghz CPU & +500Mb RAM) that can run Ubuntu smoothly.
The best one I've found so far is HTC Desire Z, but many seemed to have difficulties. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723493)
Any input?
Eh... nothing aside from the HD2 can run it smoothly, sorry.
I'm running Ubuntu nicely on the HTC G2 Vision running Virtuous v0.9.0
Only major quirk is you have to use the htc_g540976a kernel which means no overclocking

Dear all,
I am looking for a solution to connect my TF700 tablet with my phone (HTC Touch Pro 2) to access internet on the tablet when out of home (no wifi).
I can do it with my laptop and my HTC phone thanks to active think through usb.
When connecting through usb the HTC phone on the TF700 tablet, the TF700 does not see the HTC phone.
Trying with bluetooth, the HTC phone tell me that the tablet support only the NAP mode.
The HTC phone does not propose to share internet connection through wifi.
The TF700 is with ICS.
Any simple solution ?
(I am not an developper of android application.)
Regards.

Just download Foxfi from Google play store (no root needed), install it on your HTC your tf700 should works like a dream. It also has option to use as bluetooth also. Best of both world.
i think the touch pro 2 is an old winmo phone if im not mistaken. If thats the case there may not be a solution since i dont believe winmobile supports the right type of tethering for the infinity to connect to it.

Really?? it's not android? OK, then you should find a HTC pro 2 forum or try to search on google for solution. I think it's too old, just throw it away and jump on the Android wagon...like the wild wild West.
Try pdanet

PDAnet needs android on both equipment (tablet & phone).
Does not solve my issue. Would need to move from windowsphone to Android.

I want to purchase a new laptop with a 1 or 2 TB hard drive.
The problem I am having is finding one that I can install linux as the OS.
I read somewhere that some of these laptops only support Microsoft because of some new technology.
Has anyone purchased a TB laptop and installed linux on it?

first of all, what u want to do with your new one?!
so much space in laptop?:silly:
i just wanna say, buy a laptop with an SSD :good: ~128gb SSD is enough for linux, and use a extern 2,5" hdd for other things.
imo u can install linux on every Laptop!
- which things are not supported? -> some new graphic cards ? thats all i think.
what you mean is probably the option of only booting signed kernels/bootloaders with uefi
i think the linux guys are working on a woraround like letting microsoft sign one booloeader that can load any linux, but not sure
but this uefi option can be disabled by most computers you should inform yourself about that beforehand
Do I even bother trying to do any fun rooting of my Xoom / Moto X or Nexus one from my MacAirbook on the IOSX side. Or should I go straight to a dual boot Windows OS?
