Does anyone else have this kind of battery drain from maps?
I have tried it with gps location on and off, same result.
Is there a way to tell which process in the phone is using the maps?

It has to do with Google Now.
Turn off the features of Google Now you don't use and also on the maps app turn off report from this device and that will help.
My maps usage went down a lot

Open maps, go to settings, then location settings, uncheck everything

I had the same issue. I deleted google maps via Root Uninstaller and re-downloaded from the store. The issue of maps sucking up all the battery went away.
try that.

Do you have a widget or any app requesting location services?
Check which options you have set under Settings | Location Services.
Also, you can download GPS Status from the Play Store (or any other GPS test from play store) to test GPS.
To get faster speeds on GPS, you can do this on GPS Status: Open application, go Menu/Tools/Manage A-GPS Status. Reset A-GPS Status and download new A-GPS data. This will download from the cell network satellite location data which will allow your phone to lock onto the satellites faster.

Google Search and some Chrome services using +400MB of RAM

Hi, ever since updating to 5.1 I've been experiencing unusual battery drain in my device. Google Services is always first or second (behind screen) in the list of apps using energy. I also noticed that Google Search and a couple of chrome services are always running and using up over 400MB of RAM. Also, wearableservice is ALWAYS running and I've never paired any device with my phone, I think I haven't even turned on Bluetooth.
I'll leave a couple of screenshots so you can see which services i'm talking about.

Google Maps....where is app?

Aloha everyone. I am in Hawaii and Google Maps is very valuable right now. I cannot seem to find the app anywhere on the phone, not in any folders or anything. However, when I go to download the app from the Play Store, it is already installed and i can just open it. Can anybody enlighten me and where I can find it without going to the Play Store to open it? Thanks in advance
Either the app is hidden through the launcher settings or uninstall maps and reinstall the maps app... hopefully that would show the icon then
Check disabled apps.

Check the Google folder. Either on the first home screen, or in the launcher if active.

App complains about Google location service

I side loaded GMS successfully and also suppressed error notification and iceboxed GSF to allow push notification.
One issue I noticed recently with some of my non google apps will prompt an error like below screenshot. Although I have enabled Location service and granted the app permission too. Anyone experienced the same with any other app?
p/s: I have waze and google maps and other apps working perfectly with gps location. Just certain apps are unable to retrieve location.
