[Q] Network locked phone and a custom ROM: will it still be locked to the network? - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

With a network locked phone and a custom ROM, will I still be locked to the network?
Also, how do I know if my phone is locked? It won't run with other SIM cards in it, but there's no message. It just crashes at the "Omnia 7" logo and reboots endlessly.
And finally, are you supposed to do the network unlock before installing a custom ROM? I've read that some unlockers check "software version" and mine is likely to be obscure.
Thanks

To answer my questions (for the benefit of others finding this thread).
1. Custom ROMs and bootloaders are entirely separate from network unlocking.
2. Um, it was locked as I thought.
3. Didn't seem to matter. Which was fortunate since my device identifies as a Nokia but the Samsung unlock worked anyway.

Brick phone after 5 unsuccessful unlock code trys

hey guys,
I have a dilemma here, I received an unlock code from att for my 750 and apparently after 5 attempts of putting in the unlock code, att says that this will lock the phone into att's network.
My question is --- can I still attempt to unlock it through hardspl and will it work...i should have done this in the first place but apparently thought that inserting the unlock code from att (which i got instantly) would be much easier...I was not told that after 5 unsuccessful trys that this would lock it into atts network...
I only want to sim unlock it and not upgrade the OS
You can Hard-SPL and unlock your phone without having to upgrade the os, just read the unlock thread

[Q] What is bootloader and do I need to unlock it?

I am completely clueless of what bootloader is and after some googling, I think that it's the locking of a phone's network to a specific company like verizon, at&t etc. But, here in India, we don't have such contracts, so do I need to unlock bootloader before rooting my phone? I previously had galaxy ace and there was no mention of bootloader even when I installed all sorts of custom roms.

you just won't get root if your bootloader is locked
Unlock it for root, CWM, ROMs , etc
No, a bootloader doesn't do what you assumed, it just restricts your devices from any alteration by giving you limited access. Region locked or carrier lock is a different thing.
Thanks all, one more thing, if I unlock bootloader then can I get my warranty back?

NO, you won't. When you apply for the code on Motorola site you lose your warranty. Even if you somehow manage to trick them, Moto G will still show status code as 2 (meaning relocked) instead of 1 (locked) or 3 (unlocked). Anybody feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Carrier Locked

I'm just curious so I asked this. My M2 is Carrier Locked and came from the UK. I live in Asia so I can't use any network with it.
I'm planning to install custom recovery and ROM on my phone. Now, will that affect the phone? I mean am I still Carrier locked if I did install Rom and Recovery? Or I cant do that because I am locked? I'm really confused.
Hope you will answer this one. Kinda noob question. Lol Thank you.
If it's carrier locked to a network then more than likely the Bootloader will not be unlockable. Have you checked as it's usually only sim free network unlocked devices that have unlockable Bootloaders. If this is the case non stock custom roms are out. Also if it's locked to a specific network you'll need a pac code from the network it was on in the UK before it'll work on any other network.
Yes, you can install a custom ROM and recovery, but your phone will still remain carrier locked.

My bad but I really need help unlocking my z2

I've paid twice to have it unlocked no one can do it it's blacklisted from att but I've had the phone for ever so idk pleaee help I'll even pay
I don't believe you can unlock the AT&T version to be used with other carriers since the bootloader cannot be unlocked and believe possibly same with the Verizon version. Only the Tmobile & Sprint permit unlocked bootloaders. I could also be wrong in terms of usability with other carriers even if the bootloaders are locked. For instance my current phone it's a Verizon prepaid Moto E4 that was unlocked for use on Tmobile despite the bootloader still locked.
If you only say "unlock", I'll understand it in 2 ways:
- unlock the bootloader
- unlock carrier
1. Unlock bootloader
You can easily unlock bootloader if you have T-mobile or Spriny one. It's harder for Verizon or ATT. Just google and ask team Sunshine if Z2F was supported.
2. Unlock carrier
I dont know much about this case

still no way to unlock lg g5 TMobile locked ?

Hey guys is there is still no way to unlock this devices ?
unlock you mean sim yes pay a service or get a box is only way
I got rid of the network lock with the help of TMBKiller on ebay. It worked like a charm on one of my phones that reverted to a locked state after I unlocked its bootloader (bootloader unlocked fine, but network lock would up getting set).
Unlocking the bootloader is really easy for these. Installing TWRP and Root is a little more challenging, but also possible.
