DEVELOPERS - Are you a Windows Mobile convert? - General Questions and Answers

Hey there XDA,
I'm working on an article for a website about how Windows Mobile played a part in shaping the current state of the Android community. I was curious if anyone knows (or is) a developer who went from WinMo to Android, or even better now works at HTC / Microsoft / Google and got started as a WinMo ROM chef.
Feel free to drop me a PM or reply, I'd love to get in touch with you!

Windows CE 6.0

Hey
Does anyone have any information, including pictures if possible, of the new windows mobile OS, Windows CE 6.0?
On some reviews it states that you can find out about it at www.microsoft.com/windowsce but it looks like Microsoft have rearranged their sites... this just leads to the CE homepage, talks about 5.0 but no other.
I know it's not out yet... apart from the VS Dev tools, but was just wanting to see an insight before its eventual release.
Cheers!
I am very interested in seeing this too. I have seen many threads about creating custom ROMs. I would hope that if this OS has all MS promises, that someone would create ROMs for the phones in this forum based on the new kernal, if possible. Licensing issues aside...
Is this "hot" OS will be based on Real time system?? I too want to know more about it.

If anyone knows where I can get/buy this beta release, that would be great
The site gives a link at the bottom for more info... but that redirects you, and I can't find any info there... :-(
You know that Windows CE and Windows Mobile are Microsoft's names for two different products now, right?
Phones don't and will not run Windows CE.
Also, I read that Microsoft is seriously behind the competition with development of a real-time OS, such as would be suitable for handsets that use a single chip for radio and a main processor. Like, it's 18 months away, at best.
Meanwhile, SE and Nokia already have single-chip phones on the market, running a real-time version of Symbian.

Are they? I was reading a review from Microsoft's own site saying that Windows CE 5.0 is also known as Windows Mobile 2005; and that the next version (it gave a codename but I can't remember it) will be Windows CE 6.0. ???
CE is the core
which mw is based on
so it's not the same
but they are connected to be sure

Windows mobile to android

Hey guys,
I was wondering if there is anyway to change my OS from WM 6.1 to the new Android 2.0 OS. If you can give me any in site on how to do this i would greatly appreciate it thanks.
In some devices you can run android on top of wm. But some functionalities don't work yet. Go to your device's subforum and search if someone started the port process.
Check for a forum for my device and there is one so i just posted the same question in the smartphone general forum. I dont want to run android on top of WM i want to completely change from wm to android.

That requires a new phone.
I had a look at Android first by running it on my HTC Diamond but it is incomplete. I liked what I saw so went out and got an Android phone.
Android is loaded by running a utility called Haret which somehow manages to reboot the phone into Android replacing WM. When you reboot again it goes back to WM. Without knowing which phone ou have it's impossible to know if that is possible for you to do. Look at the Wiki section of this site specifically for your device.
i am running a samsung i910 omnia from verizon wireless. I like windows mobile but i love the android system. The wm allows you to use more technical stuff where as android is more fun.

Skyfire 2.0 for Windows Mobile ?

Hi,
does anyone know when will be released new version 2.0 of Skyfire for Windows mobile ? I don't know why they didn't release new version also for Windows mobile or Symbian . I miss in version 1.5, TABS, touch FLASH PLAYER for playing video and faster page rendering [ faster rendering of "gray squares" ] and all this things have version for Android .
Thanks.
I need a wm version too. I've seen the video demonstration on an android device -> waaaouuuu
any date for the wm version ?
I just wanted a browser with flash support for use on my HTC S710 WM 6 S. ..
as far as i'm aware, they stopped development for winmo right now. they were supposed to have skyfire for blackberry a year ago and they stopped the development for that too. all focus is on android atm
android = teh sux lol.. but if you think about it winphone7's are coming out soon-ish. so why dev for 6.5 when its going to be outdated sooner rather than later. im kind of worried that windowsphone7 doesnt have any backwards compatability with 6.5 but then again it might not matter.
R.I.P.
Support for WM (and Nokia) pulled without (much) notice. Skyfire for Windows Mobile is dead. Only currently-supported platforms are iOS and Android. Some quote I found from Googling says they couldn't figure out a way to successfully monetize the WM user base so we're cut out. Bastards.

[Q] What can I do with Qt?

Hi all,
I'm getting started with this mobile app development deal and I've downloaded Qt creator to start with. (Cause it's free and it actually makes sense most of the time)
But now I'm wondering, what platforms can I make apps for with Qt? I assume windows mobile 6.5 is fine. And whatever this Nokia thing is. And I know the iPhone is out. But what about Android, Blackberry, or anything else that's out there that I am not aware of yet?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks!

[Q] OS Question

Greetings All,
I am a newbie to any sort of forum and I wish to express my thanks in advance for your help.
I have been a WM (HTC Tilt WM 6.1) user for 4 years. Just recently I have been having issues with my phone and I need to purchase a new phone, but I totally confused on what to purchase.
My Tilt has the following programs installed, that I use on a daily basis:
Voice Command, Note2Self, SPB Wallet, SK Tools, Skype, Handy Shopper, in addition to the WM Office suite.
These are the programs that work well for me and I am comfortable with.
My question is this>
Can a widows 7 Phone do all the above or do I find a used WM 6.1 or 6.5 phone…will I like WM 6.5 better?
Or dare I say it…an Android?
Since your a windows mobile user and I'm guessing your most familiar with that os I suggest the touch pro 2 or the HD2. The touch pro 2 because it's a user friendly device, nice sized keyboard and purely reliable. The hd2 is also a nice pick it has a 4.3in screen an extremely fast processor and the touch is pretty sensitive/similar to the iPhone. You can go to htc.com to check the specs and see what you like best.
These are both 6.5 wm capable phones and the HD2 can flash wp7. I personally like winmo over android because of office suite but android is not bad either.
thanks for the info...what does "flash wp7" mean?
The HD2 has a very active dev community and one of the things they have accomplished is to port other operating systems to the device. So you have a choice now between keeping it on the stock WM6.5, or 'flashing' an alternative OS like WP7 or Android.
If you bought one yourself you would have the added bonus of being able to use the apps that you are familiar with.
Thanks for your thoughts.
What about the new HTC Inspire...any thoughts?
