How To: Install Sony's New PlayStation Mobile For Android On Any Rooted Device

Sony's PlayStation Mobile for Android just went live for certified devices last night. But what if you don't have a certified device, which so far includes only a number of Sony phones and tablets as well as the HTC One series? Heck, I have a One series device - the EVO LTE - but turns out it's not certified. That's just silly.
Not a problem - if you have root on your phone or tablet, getting the PSM (PlayStation Mobile) apk to work is a matter of pushing a few files it relies on to your /system directory and rebooting. Original credit goes to XxXPachaXxX - I used his work from a few months ago, took out some extra unnecessary Bravia engine stuff, and repacked it into a flashable zip for use with the PSM.

On the Nexus 7, I was able to play the free game and successfully tested a paid game called Fuel Tiracas. They both worked wonderfully. I also bought Samurai Beatdown, but for some reason it didn't install right (I tried 3 times but the download just said installation unsuccessful, hmmm).
Unfortunately, PSM crashes upon loading the store front on my EVO LTE. If you're not using a certified device, don't be surprised if it crashes on yours too - after all, it wasn't certified and, therefore, not tested.

Step 1.
Download and install the latest PSM apk from Sony. I mirrored the current version, 1.0, here:

If you try to run the PSM app now, you'll likely get this:
Step 2.
Download the flashable zip I packed from one of these mirrors:

Step 3.
Note: Just to be clear once again, you have to be rooted to install the helper files com.playstation.playstationcertified.jar and com.playstation.playstationcertified.xml. If you're not rooted yet, first figure out how to do so to your device and then come back.
Flash the zip from custom recovery, like ClockworkMod or TWRP. This relies on having busybox, which if you're rooted, you likely already do.
Alternatively, if you don't want to flash from recovery or just like to know what you're doing, you can perform the steps manually while booted into Android:
Unzip the zip file downloaded in step 2.
Copy playcertetcpermissionscom.playstation.playstationcertified.xml to /system/etc/permissions/ on your device.
Copy playcertframeworkcom.playstation.playstationcertified.jar to /system/framework/ on your device.
Set the permissions on com.playstation.playstationcertified.jar to 644 (read/write, read, read) using your favorite file manager or command line.
Reboot.
At this point, PSM should work just fine and you should no longer see the error from Step 1. Go register for a Sony Entertainment Network account if you haven't yet and try playing some games.

I'm on the Galaxy Nexus on JB and I'm getting "Unfortunately, PSM has stopped" after it finishes logging in and loads the main page.

I have installed it and followd all the steps.
But it isnt working on my rooted note with 4.0.4.
When i log in the program says "its not availeble in your region/country" (Netherlands)
thats a shame

Working great on the Motorola Photon with a stock rooted rom.

Are there any good game available?

I followed the steps perfectly and loads up fine, but hits homescreen then force closes.
Anyone else having this problem?

I was hoping for PSP/PS1 games, but nope. (Mainly the ones I already own, hoping I can just dl them.)
Mostly indy/casual games.

Works great on my Xperia Ray, too bad that there is only paid games

[EASY MOD] Get Access to more Games straight from the PlayStore

Hello Everyone,
Since our S4s use a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, you will not be able to find games/apps that are specific to each device, such as phones that use the NVIDIA Tegra processor.
This Mod will allow you to find, buy and install games from the Play Store that normally wouldn't be available for users using a stock S4 ROM.
Also, this was not discovered by me - I just found this on some sites and thought I should share the info :silly:

This works by fooling the Play Store into thinking you're using a different device.
INSTRUCTIONS
Get Root Access.
. Using a program such as Root Explorer, work your way to the following folder:

Make sure you have Read and Write Access (do this by hitting the "Mount R/W" button at the top in Root Explorer)
Long press "build.prop" and hit "Open in Text Editor"
Locate the line where it says:

Change whatever it says in there to 'olympus'. So you should now see:

[B]ro.product.device=olympus[/B]
Reboot phone.
You should now be able to view and download Tegra apps from the Play Store.

Note: Since these games are developed for Tegra devices, they may be a tad bit glitchy. However, I've tried a few games out and they seem to work perfectly fine!
UPDATE: Even though changing the build.prop will give you access to more games, Tegra Exclusive games still don't seem to be working. If I find anymore information, I will update this thread.

Hmmm, looks like you're right. With Tegra exclusive games, it's saying that my device isn't supported. I'll keep searching. But at least for now, changing that build.prop will give you additional games that you couldn't find before

I've followed these steps and rebooted but now my phone won't start
If it powers on i see the Samsung 9505 screen but then it stays black and ne notification led is blue.
What should I do now?

Did you make a cwm backup before you did this?
Mine also hung after first reboot. After that I hard rebooted the phone and it worked

No but I've flashed the pre rooted rom again and now it works again don't knowwhat went wrong... rebooted it like 10 times but didn't get it working

Maybe when you changed it it got the permissions wrong.
I used romtoolbox which has an inapp build.prop editter
Always backup tho before doing something like this, if all fail you can return to your previous state

Actually , Eternity Warrior 2 is not tegra specific, i can run it and download it on my galaxy nexus without any mod

Probably because you are using CyanogenMod lol.
You won't be able to find it in Stock (well for the Canadian Variant that I currently use, it's not available in the playstore by default).

As you all know our CPU/GPU is capable of running most of the games here is a small trick/modification that will let you access most of the games. Screens attached at the end of the thread

To make every single app downloadable
Gain ROOT access
Download Xposed Installer
Download All Apps in Play Store
Go to the module in the Xposed app and enable No restrictions
Clear Play Store cache & reboot
With this you can download every single app, as example you can download WhatsApp on your tablet.

#Fix @uremytoy i have updated op thank you for pointing my mistake i have updated OP with new tweak in addition to this one see it and it will work now offcourse reboot after you apply the tweak before testing backup your build prop too.

no i guess its game problem, not yours. gameloft is ****ty company that instead of making their games to wrok on newer android versions, they just put it as unsupported ^^ same way why u cant play nova2 on ics+

Nope did you download it as i can download the game now after applying the above added tweak will download if you say (Hows the game )
Edit its incompatible not on gplay but ingame XD Gameloft are you kiddin me ?

i downloaded it from google play after editing build.prop, cuz before it was unsupported, after editing it is. but when i run the game it says that i should ask for refund, bcoz the device is unsuported game is free u can check it by yourself

Ya i checked it out same outcome as you try other games

its like i said before. gameloft doesnt want to make games work one never device so instead they put it as unsupported ^^ i also tried before nova 1, sandstorm, nova 2 all of them crash ^^while nova 1 and sandstorm (modded for hvga screen) works flawlessly on my xperia x8 ^^ anyway great work i guess other games will work

Phone not booting
I tried this trick but now my phone is not booting. I am stuck at a black screen after the Sony logo.

u have messed with something, u need to reflash new software with pcc, seus or flashtool

@WahajAyub , @uremytoy is correct its tested trick on my Sony Xperia L and also by @uremytoy as you can see the comments i think so you messed another file or changed the files permission you will have to reflash firmware via flashtool to get your xl started or via SEUS too

As i have also told in the above reply, do set the permission/attributes to -rw-r--r- and then reboot do recheck the attribute

Or u can use UnknowDevice app to faking your Xperia L
No need to touching build.prop

Sorry for my stupidity. After trying it two times, I got scared, until recently, when I tried the Build.Prop Editor app and it worked flawlessly. It really simplifies the editing and setting the permissions.

This guide will help you get Hearthstone running on your Rooted Android device!​
Note: I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus, with 1 GB of RAM, Broadcom GPU, 1,2Ghz Dual Core CPU, and with the settings below, it runs with about 25-30 FPS.
Requirements:
-Rooted Android device with minimum 1GB RAM(I don't think it's possible running it with less than that, but I haven't tested) - Follow Link
-Xposed Framework - Follow Link
-App Settings - Xposed Module - Follow Link
-Latest version of GLTools - Follow Link
-Brain.exe version 2.0
GLTools is a highly experimental program! I am not taking any responsibility if it causes any problem to your device!
Xposed is also risky for use on certain devices! I am not taking any responsibility if it causes any problem to your device!
Follow the steps:
Make sure your device is rooted. You can do that, by clicking on the link from the "Requirements" section
Install Xposed Framework from the "Requirements" section. I won't go into detail, but you should already know how to use it, if not, search for a tutorial somewhere.
Install App Settings xposed module from the "Requirements" section. Also not going into detail. Go to next step after you have it activated.
Download Hearthstone: APK and OBB files
Install Hearthstone and place the 2 .obb files in
Code:
/sdcard/Android/obb/com.blizzard.wtcg.hearthstone
If there is no folder, create it.
Open App settings xposed module, scroll down to Hearthstone, check the box which says "xlarge res" and save it.
Hearthstone now should run just fine. Have fun!
In case you have framerate issues like I did(mine was running with 5 fps at first), follow these steps too.
I would like to add a note here. These adjustments differ from device to device, but in general, it should make the game run much smoother.
Install GLTools from the "Requirements" section and open it.
Search for Hearthstone
Check the first checkbox, which will enable the graphical modifications for the game.
Enable the following settings:

[U]Anti-aliasing[/U] - Disable (force);
[U]Force 16-bit rendering[/U] - Checked;
[U]Optimize GLSL shaders[/U] - Checked;
[U]Enable texture decompression[/U] - All;
[U]Downscale textures[/U] - 0.5x(won't really affect the appearance of the game, but it will make it run much smoother)
[U]Use FPS Counter[/U] - Onscreen(this is optional, but I enabled it so I can see how much FPS I have)
[U]Simple MapBuffer emulation[/U] - Checked;
With these settings, I got Hearthstone from 4-5 FPS up to 15-20 FPS, which is indeed great, and the best of all, now it's playable!

- Does my Tablet needs to be Rooted in order to open GLTools and lower the fr? I kind of want a smoother game on my Nexus 7 2012 but I wasn't really on the mood of rooting (will do If theres no other choice)

Try downloading it on your PC, then transfer all the files to your device. The Mega app still does not support(for some strange reason) mega folders. These can only be downloaded on your PC...

I have not tested it on a device with 512MB ram. The official requirements are 1GB, but if you lower the graphics with GLtools, it might work even on 512MB ram. Try it out

Yes, GLTools needs root sadly, but it is capable of "black magic"! It even allows you to run even Tegra games on your device.

I have not tested it on a device with 512MB ram. The official requirements are 1GB, but if you lower the graphics with GLtools, it might work even on 512MB ram. Try it out

I was messing around with GLtools to try to put hearthstone running on my 512mb ram android tablet, but i dont have any idea what i have to change to set it up... can you give me some tips?

Hey guys ive followed all the steps but when the game loads i get a screen telling me "Sorry hearthstone currently only runs on Android Tablets 6" or larger." any ideas?

Just follow the GLTOOLS part of my tutorial in the first post, and tell me if it was working or not.

Step 6.
Open App settings xposed module, scroll down to Hearthstone, check the box which says "xlarge res" and save it.
This is the thing that controls it, so you can run it on your phone.

Hearthstone runs pretty well on my Nexus 6. I might try GLTools to see if it makes a difference but it's probably not worth it. Curiosity though...lol

I don't know. Does your device have 1GB ram? Maybe there are some other issues. Unfortunately, without a crash log, I cannot help you.

Yeah well, the Nexus 6 is a great device itself, if it runs well without GLTools. You can try however just changing ONLY the "Downscale textures to 0.5" option. That makes visually no difference on a small screen like 6"(only on a 10" tablet), and the game should run pretty much just like on a PC.

You claim this works on any rooted Android device, even mentioning Android 5.0 specifically. But you're using Xposed framework which, as of this writing, does not run on Android 5.0+. What am I missing?

There is a modded version of Hearthstone which doesn't need the Xposed module. My tutorial is for Android versions 4.0-4.4, but GLTools with modded Hearthstone, is working on 5.0 too.

Hey Seth,
I followed your tutorial for Gltools. Problem is when I open it up after installing the .apk, and after I check the 3 boxes, it says "library building failed". It does this when I press either "install" or "install using recovery" buttons.
I have a galaxy tab 3, 10.1, kitkat 4.4.2 and rooted with TWRP.
I haven't been able to find any info on this error on any other forum. Appreciate the tutorial as well.

If you sure its arm v7 , you just push it to system and it will start working, maybe signature is not good with your android, also you can patch signature verification always true like many other custom roms for smoother apps feeling.. or sign it with your working key

The app doesn't install on the note 4 unfortunately. I guess it's not armv7?
