Hey everyone
My tf101's power button has completely stopped working which is causing me a few problems such as no apx mode, cant access power menu and cant navigate recovery menus etc. I realise apx mode is a lost cause so my main issue is navigating the recovery menu to be able to flash roms etc is their any recovery that can navigate by the keyboard or even an onscreen keyboard? im stuck with cwm 6 atm. My last question is is there any app that can activate the power menu?
Many thanks as always.
I have to press my power button down with the hard part of my thumb to get it to work. Asus really put a cheap power button on this device.

install goo manager from the app store, from there install TWRP. Reboot to recovery, and TWRP should be the new recovery replacing CWM. TWRP uses a touch screen interface.
Clean out the gunk around the power button, that often times fixes the issues with stuck / failed power buttons. DON'T MASH IT SO HARD!

Good idea. Also, if you're warrenty's still good, flash sock Asus firmware and send it back to them.
Firmware Download: http://www.asus.com/Eee/Eee_Pad/Eee_Pad_Transformer_TF101/#download
Good luck.

Well I wanted to make a nandoird backup....BUT when I boot into clockwork recovery, the volume up and down, move the option, but the power button makes the screen black out and nothing happens.
If I press the power button again, it turns the screen back on at the main menu.
Tried double pressing, etc.
I tried all the other face buttons, but no joy.
Am I missing something?
Thanks
I've had the same issue at times and getting to clockwork recovery through rom manager fixed my issues. How are you trying to access CWM? Powering off first then power button and volume down key? Try vice versa and see if that fixes your issue. Let us know...

I was rebooting into recovery through the rom manager into recovery.
When I boot up through power and VOL DWN I get a whole different looking interface...the mech interface and it tries to do an update.
UPDATE:
THEN I realized that the update file is in the sdcard dir....
I am so dumb....
I deleted it, then it went into the mech, interface, did recovery, then it went into the orange clockworkmod menu, then I could backup....
Thanks for the response!
Yep that'll do it! Remove that puppy!
Hello all! I was able to get CWR 4 installed on my Augen Gentouch tablet. I booted into it, but then realized I can't move up and down since I have no volume buttons on the device.
None of the buttons do anything, except the power button, which selects the first option (Which is "Shut down" or "Reboot" or the likes)
Any ideas? Is there a magic way to remap keys for this?
I can't even get the stock recovery program back on because CWR 4 has me stuck
Thanks for any help
Same issue!
Got a 8 tablet with samsung S5PV210 ARM A8 Cortex
Three buttons on the front, no volume buttons, so pressing the down volume button and power to get into recovery is not poss? Rom Manager just boots to stock rom even if i press " install rom from SD"
Anyone?
We cant be the only ones who got one of these lol
Cheers
Danny
I am using a version of Clockwork Recovery on my Photon that takes over if you have the charge plugged in when you turn it on.

would love to know the answer to this myself.
Solved!
But now i need a good rom?
2. Update your Tablet, using the recovery console
1.- shut down the Tablet
2.- Press the "HOME" Button, and then press the "Power" button TOGETHER about 2-3 seconds.
3.- The android system will start, and stop at a page with a small android robot, press the "power" Button about 2 seconds, and then press the "HOME" together.
4.- The screen will show the below 4 choices:
1) Reboot system panel now
2) apply update from /sdcard
3) wipe data/factory reset
4) wipe cache partition
Select option 2 by holding down the "Power" button, once complete reboot!

Yeah, that's coming. It has buttons on the screen for navigating the menus. I'm not sure if it's gonna be device-specific though, or if it will be generic enough to include regardless of your device.
I've got a curly one. I lost super user app so I was doing a restore through EXT4 boot as I have no working volume rocker.
The program got stuck and screen went black.
Upon restart , I get to the HTC screen of death and nothing else.
I cannot hold down volume and power button as volume button is shot.
Is there a way to connect through USB and fire up a recovery screen ?
i've got somewhat of the same issue - due to some water damage, my vol - button does not seem to function anymore. i would like to keep flashing ROMs, but am afraid of getting into a bootloop and not being able to access hboot. is there any way to bypass the vol- power button combo for getting into hboot?
I've got a faulty vol+ button here. No clue why.
ADB reboot recovery
My vol down is starting to go hmm I wonder what the fail rate is ? I smell a design flaw.

Installing ROM Manager from the market will also allow you to reboot your phone to recovery.

Yes but you have to be up and running to use it.
I use 4 ext boot which allows me to use recovery with out the need for a volume control. Just need power, menu and home . buttons.

4ext is based on cwm. Cwm can use the soft buttons too.

Please help if you can, would really appreciate, dont know how to unbick my totally F$$$$### Nexus S Phone.
Even in recovery/fastboot mode on my Nexus S (Vol up+power), I cannot get my system to recognize the device....in fact, even in Windows, I am not able to get the system to recognize my device in Recovery mode/Fastboot mode....the only way it will recognize the device is if it is turned on the normal way, and hangs on the "Google unlocked icon" screen.
Some background info:
My power button recently stopped working...I thought it had to do with the fact that I updated NexusTools (was running a CyberGR rom...cant remember the name...had V4 Ultimate in it (downloaded from Rom Manager)).
So what I did was download/install (from the same developer) their hybrid ics rom....that did not brick it...but it also did not fix the power button...so after not liking the new rom, and the fact that it didnt fix my power button, I reflashed to the original rom I had installed (wiped everything, including doing a factory reset), and it just hung on "Google unlocked icon"
Now my phone does the following:
- First of all, the only way to power the device up is to plug it in (it automatically turns on and tries to boot without me pressing the non-functional power button)
- If I let it try to boot, it infinity hangs on the Google unlocked icon screen
- If I boot into recovery (by holding vol up button and plugging the phone into a power source), it hangs on the recovery screen...meaning the power button, as well as the volume buttons, as well as any buttons are non responsive.
- If I boot into recovery, the device doesnt even register on my system....
What am I doing wrong? What can I do to try and fix this?
I would truly appreciate if anyone reading this has some insights for me.
THANKS!!

yes, sounds like a dead power button(i have one myself).
try going back into your recovery, do a full data wipe(factory reset), then reflash the rom(and gapps). if still nothing, redownload the rom and try again. in your recovery, there is an usb option. use it to transfer your newly downloaded rom from your computer to phone.
Once I am in recovery mode it "freezes" though...as in not even the volume buttons work...they worked fine before, and even work to get into recovery mode...but once there they no longer work...nor does connecting the device in recovery mode to my laptop....so im kind of at a loss, as I cant even use Fastboot/adb to wipe/push anything on the Nexus S through my laptop

im guessing that your using cwm recovery?
give your phone a few smacks on the back near the power button, your phone thinks its being pressed in.
yes, it definitely thinks it is being pressed in...thats for sure...and makes sense...ill try that haha!
Yes latest CWM Recovery...5.0.2 or something like that...just updated that before phone died...
Weird...so i "smacked" the phone a bit...when I do it in recovery mode, it reboots the phone into recovery....so it definitely thinks its being pressed down constantly...but I have found no way to make it "un-pressed"...only briefly by smacking it...

in twrp recovery, theres an option to not use the power button to select(thats what im using), is there a similar option in the newer cwm recovery? tr\y pressing the soft buttons). also, see if sticking a fingernail in between the power button helps, to pull out the button a bit.
After continuingto smack it...as well as "pulling" on the power button, I am not able to use volume buttons and power buttons within recovery...flashing a new rom now...will let you know if that fixes it...otherwise I will try unbickable in ubuntu again and see if that fixes it thanks for the pro-tip of smacking it, haha!
Hello everyone. I have Katkiss Kitkat #19 and TWRP recovery 6.something but I can't remember which. Anyway, I use to reboot into recovery by holding down the Volume down, then press Volume up when prompted to get into recovery. Now the power and volume buttons are completely busted. I can't press any of them. And I need to go into recovery to flash the new Rom.
So, here is what I tried:
1. Rom Toolbox. I tried to "Reboot into recovery" option but it just reboots the ddevice.
2. Terminal emulator: su reboot recovery, it says reboot: no such order
3. Tried to hook it to my laptop and use ADB, but no devices attached. I have Windows 8.1 64 bit. I have Android drivers installed and in the device manager it say Asus ADB and it shows Asus in the "safely remove" but I still can't see it in the My computer. I have USB debugging on and it asked me to allow my laptop keys and I agreed. Still, ADB doesn't work.
I don't know what else can I do. I can't go into recovery, bootloader or APX mode without the power and volume buttons. Is there anything i can do, or am I stuck here?
Any help will be greatly appreciated...:crying:
There's a few different apps that let you boot to recovery
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.siriusapplications.quickboot
More

When you say the power and volume buttons are completely busted, have you tried taking the plastic bezel off and pressing the micro buttons under the normal silver ones ?

I tried the first one and six from the second link and none of them work. Actually, when I was installing Xposed, I pressed reboot, but it said Reboot: No such tool. I don't know what's going on.
The problem with the power button is that my kid dropped the tablet many times and it got so many dents, so I took of the casing (or whatever it's called0 and then straightened it out, out the buttons in their places and then glued it in place. Now it's really hard to press the power button (the one underneath) but it works. But how can I do that every time I want to power off or reboot into recovery, specially if there is a boot loop. I can't do anything except pressing the power button.
That's why I wanted an easy solution at least to reboot recovery.
May be I should take off the casing one more time and try to fix the power and volume buttons one more time.
I just want to thank you for your super fast reply and taking the time to find those apps.
Thanks a lot...
In the past, while still on stock ROM,I have been using this tool to overcome the missing "reboot to recovery" option in the regular Asus power menu: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.transformer.recovery
Now I have tested it on KK #19 and this tool apparently does not reboot the tablet BUT:
when I run this tool and then reboot the tablet normally (with the power menu...) I get into recovery.
So if you are already able to reboot normally through Rom Toolbox you might try to run this one first before rebooting with Rom Toolbox.
NOTE I imagine you are perfectly aware that you are playing with fire here.
In case your tablet gets into a boot-loop while installing the new ROM, you might end up with a useless tablet. Is it really worth the risk?

OK, you did it. You got me scared, so I separated the casing in the power button part and clicked on the original button with a small screwdriver and it worked. Also the volume buttons. Now I don't know what to do. May be the buttons are broken from the inside. I'll try to see if those are sold on ebay or something. If not, I'll try to attach something to them from the underside.
Anyway, I'm really grateful that you made me take this step. I'll fix it tomorrow first thing in the morning. Well, we both know I'm not gonna sleep until I get it fixed, hahaha.
Again, thanks a lot...
