[Q] Why are my quadrant scores low? - Asus Transformer TF700

Okay so, my tf700 is running CleanRom 2.5.5 Inheritance with the over clocked kernal
and i keep getting scores around 6000 and under
while in performance mode
am i doing something wrong

i enabled it and disabled it
score went up to 6200
now dropped back to 5600

Any other ideas?

No idea. Have you tried taking a TBU and (maybe even clean) install 2.6 and 2.6.1 (patch over 2.6)?
PS: what mods did you choose? And how much did you manage to get when in Performance Mode?

Low score... it used to be pretty damn high for the TF700T... times change, I guess
Don't let the benchmarks bother you, tbh.

Where do you want to be with benchmarks?
Are you wanting high numbers or are you good with smooth stable UE?

its well documented, quadrant can be fooled, you can have a custom rom thats built specifically for quadrant and it will bench much higher than other roms but in real use its much slower. Go for smooth and stable. Basically, just use your tablet and if you like where its at dont complain, quadrant is just a number, theres no FEELING behind it. Higher number does not always mean better experience.

6200 with force GPU rendering on is great! How does it feel to use?

Thanks for the responses guys
I was thinking if i wipe it completely and do a clean install it would be better, sounds like a good idea anyway
i was comparing my scores to what everyone else was saying and what it showed in the thread for that rom
i always ran quadrant in performance mode and made sure i had more than 400mb free of ram
i stayed with some default setting on the DPI and launcher, but i chose clemsyns kernal with the GPU at 700
and i left fsync enabled
Some people said it hit 7000
if it doesn't matter i wont worry about it
but i will say my tablet is much quicker then before, i have a few hiccups that i believe are caused by some apps
is it possible that apps in the background can cause the low scores?

Pshhht! Lucky. Ok now what is a logical thing I could do? Like does having 2 overclocking apps make it faster instead of one? Or should I get a third?

no however if you have advance task manager make sure no unnecessary processes are running so that quadrant can use as much ram/etc as possible, also i found underVOLTing and overCLOCKing it rendered some of the graphics blank making them load "faster" giving it a higher reading, also if ur on liberty 1.5 using the STAGEFRIGHT hack works too

Droid Overclock in the market from Jrummy allows you to set custom frequencies. I have a profile set up for Max performance, at 1.45 ghz. When it came out, there was talk of people going up to 2 ghz if I remember correctly or it could have been a hoax, never looked into it. Definitely Risky, but you did say you already knew that, so don't come crying to back to the forums if you break something.
Stagefright.
It is not just a liberty mod, its a Build Prop mod that is easily edited in the liberty toolbox, you could always just edit the Build.prop yourself. I looked into this a while back with all the quadrant score hype and this removes the ability of the phone to play back video recorded from the device's camera or at least it used to, may have been fixed?.
Not 100% on this one, but I believe Stagefright is just false inflation of quadrant score, not really a performance increase; someone else feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
Do you know were I could try the app out before buy it?
amazon
The amazon app market is the only place with "try before you buy" that I know of, but its in a web browser. Not really on the device, so would let you see features but not actually alter clock. Plus im not sure if that app is in the amazon market.

keeeeep gooiiingggg........do you have droid overclock?????
Honestly Quadrant scores are meaningless... If your phone is fast enough for you then you have it. Personally I see no reason to overclock Droid X or any other phone for that reason. A few hundred Mhz isn't going to change much in real world performance. Also you sacrifice battery life when you overclock.
Agreed on Quadrant Scores, however, many people are running higher frequencies with either stock or lower voltage, but doubt anyone is at 1.3ghz or higher without increasing voltage.
Also, with SetCpu, you can set up profiles to keep stock battery life with higher frequencies.

In Jrummys overclock app (Droid x Overclock) , there is the option to go up to 1.45 ghz. (To use the higher settings, go to the settings, then scroll down to "Scaling Frequency Preset" and select it. then go to set scaling frequencies, and select your voltage and speed. best of luck.
I got liberty 2.0.1 installed with stagefight on and my quadrant score is 2500+ with stage fright off my score was 1300 thats with a 1.2 overclock. Btw which is insanely stable compared to Liberty 1.5. For me atleast.
If you really want to see where your phone can run, buy quick clock advanced.from the market. It will test your phone for you to determine how low a voltage and how high a clock speed you can safely run. you can then load presets such as battery saver, balanced, or high speed. If you're on the Gb leak, it will not persist at boot, however

Modern Combat 3 lag for anyone else?

MC3 has always lagged for me no matter what. At first I thought it was because I was running stock rom + stock kernal.
I finally grew some balls and flashed NExus 4 + Faux's overclock kernal and even with it fully overclocked at 1.7ghz, and running at that speed with no other applications running I still get lag..
Is the skyrocket really not powerful enough for that game lol? I know its most likely the most demanding game + the best graphics but its really annoying.
All other games work fine xD
since u flashed that, try mhx superlite 5, and under developper options in settings set "force gpu rendering" to on, and re-run mc3. i honestly think that will help alot

From reading another thread that's ICS? Call me weird but I prefer GB way over ICS ;P
ur not weird, ics may not be for everyone, but the performance improvements are evident. if u don't want to go down that route i suggest u try the faux 010v??? edition? whichever version of 010 isnt the mainlinr one, its got an overclock on the gpu. Also, see if u can get to 1.8, use system tuner to turn up the voltage at that frequency to ensure stability.

[Q] Some nonspecific whining about performance...

Hey all -
I have been a Transformer (and modding) fan since my TF101, and I just leapt from a TF201 to the infinity.
I'm not sure quite what I was expecting, but I surely wasn't expecting it to be slower. Responses to screen taps and swipes are very delayed, to the point where it's extremely annoying.
This is all subjective, I realize, but I was wondering if this is a widespread thing or if I should try to RMA it.
I had heard that CROMi-X was the rom to have, so I flashed 4.6.7.
I had also heard that the GPU was an ass-kicker, so I put on my favorite piece of eye-candy (that I've purchased) which is "Asphalt 7: Heat." - and it ran DOG SLOW, and wasn't particularly candy-ish.
Well, maybe that's an exaggeration, but having the 201 and 700 side-by-side (literally, driving one with each hand, and poorly at that) the 700 was choppy and would pause every so often. It took MUCH longer to load, too.
So I was unhappy.
I read about the slow internal I/O and re-flashed with a Data2SD option, formatted the microcard, the whole nine yards, and it didn't really get any better. fsync is turned OFF.
I side-graded to the older CleanROM Inheritance 3.4.7, and it actually seems SLIGHTLY better, but the UI has a tendency to be very laggy.
I'm going to try "AndroWook" next, I had that on my Prime with good success.
I've googled and found plenty, plenty plenty of people who have a problem with the TF700 and its speed, which is really disappointing because it's supposed to be the top of the line.
So.. is anyone out there really HAPPY with their TF700? Is it zippy and satisfying? What ROM are you using?
Maybe I'll try to unload it on craigslist and go back to the TF201. It has lower "Androbench" marks, but is crazy more responsive.
*shrug*
I'd love to hear anyone's thoughts...

I'm still using 4.1.1. I run Cromi 3.4.6 with Hund's kernel 2.2, along with most of the tweaks found here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2232715). I am not running data2sd and my CPU/GPU profiles are not as aggressive. Apparently some people have been getting bootloops after applying these tweaks but I've never had it.
I've tried 4.2 several times (with different versions of Cromi-X) but usually come back to 4.1.1 within a day because it seems to run better.
Having said this, I think "lags" can be quite subjective - I personally think my tf700 is zippy but perhaps you wouldn't agree.

It is odd. With what you said, your TF700 should be very smooth unless there is a hardware problem Did you try a clean install? BTW, if you reinstall again, I would recommend that you should use Cromi X V4.6.5 instead of 4.6.7.
For some reason when I used the Advanced Wipe and wiped everything in TWRP. I still found some old files on my internal SD. However, when I used a formatted option, everything was gone and clean. Maybe you should do that. Also if you use Data2Ram, you should reformat your MicroSD as the same time with your clean install. A combination of Fsync Off, D2R, and Cromi X should work very well. My kernel is Hund's V3.0.6 with OC of 1.4G CPU, 520M GPU for Power Saving, 1.6G CPU, 600M GPU for Normal, and 1.8G CPU, 650M GPU for my Performance with UV about 35mV. My quandrant scores are 5800 for Power Saving = Game Mode, 6400 for Normal = Normal Activities, and 7000s for Performance = Browsing and streaming movies. Please report back if you decide to do a clean install, thanks and good lucks.
Here are my settings and quadrant scores using Hund 2.2:
Power Saving - GPU 650Mhz, CPU 1.45/1.4Ghz - Quadrant 5331
Balanced - GPU 700Mhz, CPU 1.65/1.6Ghz - Quadrant 6336
Performance - GPu 775Mhz, CPU 1.85/1.8 Ghz - Quadrant 7005
Personally I take the quadrant scores with a grain of salt because I've had setups where the scores were better but the tablet was not as responsive. I mostly run on Power Saving mode without any problems.

Several totally clean installs at this point.
AndroWook was bust, it didn't even get past the "ASUS" logo.
I'm back to Cromi 3.4.7 with _that's kernel 3.1.10. A lot of folks are mentioning Hund 2.2, perhaps I'll try overlaying that now.

I totally agree. I added a bunch of the PimpMyRom tweaks and rebooted. I'm letting it settle down and then going to see what's what.
I can't get the GPU overclock to take, though. I think I've mounted the FS r/w and I'm editing the GPU cap files to contain 1460 as directed, but the next time I open the file it's back to 1300. Weird.
So, my Quadrant score after all the tweaks were put in, on "Balanced," is 5266. On "Performance," it's 5139.
Erugh?

Strange. I get 5200 in balanced mode without any special tweaks, and over 6000 in performance mode with fsync off.
The general user experience is acceptable, but not exceptionally smooth - lost frames in animations are common, but there are no long waiting times anywhere.

That is really odd. Unfortunately my knowledge of tweaking is entirely based on following other people's instructions so I don't know why the GPU changes are not taking. Are your CPU changes taking? Did you follow the instructions on init.d scripts/enabling his voltage table and governor tweaks?
Here's are my cpu.sh files. I switched the profile for powering saving mode and balanced mode because the tablet always defaults to balanced mode.
-----------------------
Also, when I made the profile too aggressive (too high on CPU or GPU), the tablet got way hot and my quadrant score dropped. Since our tablets are all different on the amount of overclocking they can handle, maybe you're pushing your tablet too much. Have you tried easing down on overclocking?

This might be my final entry - after doing the PMR tweaks, and flashing Hund 2.2 (no offense, _that ) the Quadrant score in Performance mode is ... uh.. well, indeterminate because suddenly I can't attach to our wifi. Sigh. Perhaps I overtweaked.
Although, Asphalt ran VERY smoothly. I credit the GPU overclock, in combination with assigning all the 2D stuff to the GPU.
Yeah, definitely. After flashing hund 2.2, it won't acquire an IP address.
Today is surely an interesting day.

You probably have problems because of PMR tweaks I remember I also had wifi issues after PMR and I think I didn't enable all the tweaks in the guide. Try PMR recovery where it restores all your previous settings-it should restore your wifi. If not, then maybe a clean install of Cromi and then doing the init.d/Hund/CPU/GPU tweaks should give you quite a bit of performance boost.
Hope by "final entry" you don't mean you're giving up!

Wow, that is just odd. Does the tablet get really hot when you run quadrant? It might be that the GPU/CPU settings are too high. Hope actual performance is still working out for you.
And as for recovery, I meant running the rescue package inside PMR that "un-pimps" the rom. Thinking back on when I installed the tweaks, I think I did everything mentioned in PMR except for Network & Internet mods. And I love the xloud mod!

It was pretty warm, yeah. I knocked the cpu back from 1900mhz to 1800mhz - which doesn't seem to matter since according to the little floating CPU monitor I have ("Cool Tool") it's never going over 1600mhz anyway.
I mean, I've got PMR trying to control stuff on one hand, the built-in "Power Saving/Balanced/performance" thing on the other, and also "Trickster Mod"
Idunno.
It does seem perkier after all this, so maybe it doesn't matter.
I wish Quadrant would let me see my score without hitting the internet though. I backed off the voltages by 0.025v per speed, and came up with 5499 this time. Although I don't know whether that's "performance" or what.

Is Asphalt still running better than before? I think the most important thing is that the applications you use are running smoothly and not upsetting you that (1) you spent $$$ on the tablet, (2) you spent a lot of time tweaking the tablet, and (3) you're not getting the performance you want.
I once spent a few hours tweaking CPU/GPU to figure out how I can maximize Quadrant score and what I came away from it is that high score doesn't matter if the tablet is getting way to hot for comfort and that low score doesn't matter if the tablet is running to my satisfaction. I almost never change my power setting and that means my score is probably around 5300, but I still like how the tablet responds.
Anyways, hope your tablet's running better than before and good luck with any additional tweaking! :victory:

To keep Andrei from going crazy with non-development related questions, I've opened the following thread. That way we keep the development thread for development topics and this for general discussion.
Good deal.
First feature request: Fading in/out LEDs! I've pinged the dev for LightFlow, and while he can implement it on a software level, it would be supremely inefficient and probably drain the battery like crazy.

Actually that's something which belongs in the dev thread. If anything you can just post on the issue tracker on Github, I've grown vary of XDA.
There's a new TI LED controller so I can't port the old Philips controls from the old phones. I'll rewrite it eventually but I got other things to do now.

Done, posted on Github!
just got my s4 one day ago. rooted immediately, flashed omega7.0 and the latest perseus. did not touch anything on the u/v in stweak. no o/c as well. but the antutu score is so low 21000+, i thought it at least supposed to be 27000+?
i tried adam kernel, had the same result. is that normal? did i miss anything?

thanks for you response. as i mentioned i got it only one day, without touching anything on u/v & o/c. i guess this is considered lower score than the stock one? i merely care about bench mark, i just want to know is this normal? or i need few days to let it settle down? fyi, i tried more than 10 times and it only score between 20k-21k. perhaps you can be kind enough to give me some idea rather than congrats me.

It is normal for benchmark to be lower than on stock kernel all devices differ. Following the development of this kernel it has been stated that the kernel is not intended for high benchmarks but more for overall stability, smoothness and better battery life.
Benchmarks is just a number and a high benchmark does not always mean your phone is smooth and performs very well under normal user conditions.
Hope this answers your question and should I be mistaken about anything anyone welcome to rectify me on those points.

i never meant that perseus is running low on benchmark, in fact, it's the highest between chainfire's cfroot, wanam's adam. i tried all these 3 kernel, all score only between 19k-21k. i just wonder if i have accidentally limited my cpu speed? i will do a factory reset and re-test it.
again, i dont or merely care about benchmark, i just care if my s4 is running normally.

I have kanged Andrei's response with respect to benchmarks.

Benchmark freaks can enable the boost mode manually: /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/boost_mode .
The first throttling speed is 1400MHz and that's why it spends a lot of time there during benchmarking.
Effectively, overclocking on this device makes very little sense unless you can achieve more thermal headroom with undervolting. I personally couldn't get over 1.8GHz on random loads, and couldn't get over 1.7GHz on benchmarking (Antutu 31300).
Nevertheless, the option is there for people who want to stick their phones into their freezers. For everybody else, stop being concerned about numbers.
This seems to affect only a rare number of people and I still don't know the cause. Just cycle the screen once and be done with it.

did you guys note the download link for perseus alpha 4 rc1 on andrei github? , dont flash it unless you know whats in there
edit: just flashed it (couldnt resist). based on the newer sources it seems, camera works fine with latest cam firmware
lets wait for Andrei release......build seems to be a release candidate....so its should not be for long....

I received mine yesterday, rooted, flashed doc rom to remove bloatware, flashed perseus kernel.
I ran a few antutu and I was getting 27-28k without changing any setting.

@Power, What rom are you running? I suspect it's rom related.
I'm using omega 7, one of the user experienced the same as mine. Going to flash new rom.

From recovery flash Perseus kernel + Camera Fix https://www.dropbox.com/s/20kyqg154h8w198/camera-ISP-fw.MEAplusFix.zip
Then reboot. Your camera should be working.

Lower Benchmarks

Hey guys.
On my S8+ I got around 173K antutu score (all scores are in antutu form now on) after i finished setting it all up and with the same apps I have now.
After this I flashed jessie's kernel which OC's the exynos to 2.45 (if im not mistaken) and got from 181K to 182K scores.
Then i flashed CARhd Rom V3 and started getting from 163k to 165k on it's stock kernel and 167K on jessie's, still OC to 2.45. I noticed some performance issues, like lags when i had two apps running on multiscreen so I went back to stock rom, flashed by ODIN.
This said, The benchmarks i got on stock were 163K and with stock rom and jessie's kernel were 167K max.
One should not trust, nor care about benchmarks all that much, but I would like to know if any of you have any idea why i'm scoring 15K lower on the same config WITH A CLEAN INSTALL WITH THE SAME APPS. First answer that came to me was some KNOX bs, but it can not be, as the 182K i got before were on a non stock kernel with knox triggered.
The difference in the scores are, roughly 11K on UX and 3K on CPU. 3D and RAM are the same.
Thank you, guys

There are many reasons why scores can vary wildly. The main culprit is usually thermal throttling.
I'm running CarHD V4 and score 170k so don't worry about it, the phone is a beast.
I do get the phone is a beast, what confuses me is how it downscores 15K points and 11 of them are on User Experience (UX) on the same phone, same software, same apps after a format =/
On this rom i got this score, with this kernel i got this score, on another rom i got this score, and with that kernel i got this score... just go back to the config that got you the highest score, what's the problem?

The problem is that he went back to the configuration that have him the best score, but it's 15k lower for some reason.

The problem is that my ability to find the problem is about the same as your ability to read a post that is as explicit as it can get...

Were you doing all of this consistently? testing, flashing, testing, flashing, etc.? Because the phone could have just needed a break.

Tests on all roms were conducted with the device rested for 10 minutes with no apps running and screen off so it would cool down.
The 182k was tested 4 times in a row, on which the differences maxed at 2k. Same for test 2 (car hd rom), that was conducted 2 days after I installed the rom.
Lastly, the back to settings 1 test was conducted yesterday with the same procedure aswell.
Today I got it to top out at 178k (stock rom, jesse kernel OC) using kernel control to lock all 8 CPU at max speed (2.45 and 1.69, for big and LITTLE), with it on the regular governor it is doing 175 overclocked to the before mentioned speeds.
I don't know what happened to it, but those 162k it first got were the same as when I turned on power saving mode whilst it was able to do 182K, which is odd and the first thing i checked was if it was on, which it wasn't.
All tests were conducted with 1080p screen, RAM cleared, Excess files erased, with everything turned off except for wifi so it can submit the score.
Like I said, benchmarks are worth what they are, and I only conducted antutu testing again because I was noticing a performance deficit. 175 (It's 4k higher than an OP5) is more than fine and I notice no more lags on daily usage.
For reference, it is scoring 2147 - single-core and 6569 multi-core on geekbench 4 aswell, which, in multicore, is 150 points lower than it was when it was doing 182 on antutu.
