I have to get a new phone and trying to decide what looks like the best phone out right now for ATT?
Note sounds pretty cool, but not quite sure i can deal with a phone that big in my pocket, and i can't do a belt clip
Any other suggestions besides those 2 also well considered
I think Note has bigger screen and performance, and Skyrocket has smaller screen and performance. But it really comes down to what you prefer? Bigger screen or easy comfort use and easy fit in ur pocket.
I personally will go for the skyrocket as the Note is HUUUGE.
There's a bunch of pocket tests for the Galaxy Note (just google or youtube it) and it seems to fit fine. However, depending on your hand size usability might be an issue. You should ask if there's anything you especially could use a big screen for (games, lotsa reading) though ultimately there's lots of things to take into account.
Yeah, i mean i tend to think bigger is just better....so long as it's not cumbersome. any other devices worth considering as well?

Galaxy Nexus also has a large screen (and Ice Cream Sandwich.. rumor says it's coming out for the SGII/Note on March 1, but that just drives home how you're utterly dependent on Samsung's goodwill). It doesn't have specs that are quite as good as the other two though (I think the differences are marginal; you might not).
Edit: But, of course, this isn't an ATT phone. You'd have to buy it unlocked. Which I'd sort of recommend anyway but meh.
I think it depends on your preferences. If you want a big screen then go for the Note. The SGSII is great and I think it's easier to work with only one hand. It also fits in your pocket better.
those factors make a big difference! i am on the road a lot and a phone that big will probably get annoying. i have an atrix now, which is not HUGE, and i hate having that one in my pocket as it is. One handed manipulation is big as i am in the car frequently and still need to work the phone from time to time.
People around here seem to love the Desire, i don't know if it's worth looking for a used one of those for now? may be obsolete already by soecs....
I have intrntl version of note and i m in love with it
Note is what i prefer....!!!!

The Galaxy S II is a great, fast device, and packs the Exynos CPU, ehich is currently the fastest mobile CPU on the market.

I personally think the Note i just too big, cumbersome to use and uncomfortable to carry around. Unless you're hands are huge and pockets are big hah
I would go with the SG2 just because of those factors.
or you can wait for the SG3, it should be slightly bigger, going with the trend that screen sizes are getting bigger, likewise withe battery.
or else nexus would be good as well. Has the new ice cream sandwich.
NICE ....................^_^
Get the note. Contrary to popular belief the note is not too big. Its really perfect honestly. The resolution is also much better on the note. And trust me when I say when you get the note there won't be anyway for you to go back to anything smaller.

IMO, phone size is subjective.

Once you go note, you can't go back. Surfing the web, video games, and watching movies are too fun. Skype is better too. 4.3 inch was at one time considered too big. In 5 years, note won't be big enough
So, I thought I'd share this with everybody. I was eligible for an early upgrade, so I headed over to AT&T to begin the drooling process. I spent a bit of time bouncing between the Skyrocket, and the Note. In the end, I chose a White Skyrocket. To me, the Note is just a BEAST of a device. Way too big to serve as a practical daily driver. I held the display model to my ear, but looked and felt like a complete idiot, with that giant slab against the side of my head. (my wife was laughing at me). This is not to say it will be too big for everybody, however.
In my humble opinion, I think the Note would be a perfect choice for someone who is in the market for a phone and tablet. The Note would serve well in this category. But for for somebody looking to just replace their phone, I wouldn't recommend it.
Coming from a Galaxy S II (i777), I was looking for something [slightly] larger; the SGS II just felt a bit small in my large hands. Don't get me wrong, the SGS II is a powerful device, but my hands needed something larger. Enter the Skyrocket...This phone is PERFECT. Before actually checking it out, I thought a .2" larger screen wouldn't be noticeable, but actually it is. It's slightly wider and noticeably taller than that of the SGS II. The curved back feels much nicer in the hand, compared to the square-ish SGS II.
I've had the Skyrocket for a few hours now, and the only minor complaint I have, is in regards to the capacitive touch key backlighting. Because of the white finish, the capacitive button backlight creates a noticeable "halo" effect. It can be bothersome, but turning off the backlight feature solves the problem. Having used Samsung phones long enough to memorize the capacitive keys, I don't need the backlight anyways. (The black model does not have this issue).
That's the long and the short of it. Hope I was able to help some of you.

Generosity has nothing to do with how soon ICS will be released to other handsets. There's a lot to releasing an update. Samsung has to decide which devices will get it, then testimg begins. Once testing is complete, they send it to AT&T' dev team, who also must tweak it for stability, etc. before thry can push it to our devices. There's more to this, I'm mentioning the basics, to keep it brief. Basically, there's more to updates than just spitting them out.

Well I know that in the past there were similar questions and threads but they were general discussions. Anyway I need some opinions and here is my question. I'm a proud owner of HOS S4 and I m really content with it. But our firm gives us SGS3 (International). In the end, I'll pick one of these phones and will give the other to my wife
Because of build quality, general performance, size etc. I would prefer HOS. Because it was also my choice over SGS3 when I first bought it. But there is two things thingles in my mind
First: I intend to use the phone for 2-3 years. When you look from hardware perspective, which one of these phone, do you think, will technologicaly endure more, after, lets say, 2 years?
Second: I never used although tempted by ability to use two apps in split screen on SGS3. But I don't have experience about what it is like in real world. Is it a dealbreaker? Do you think it can be a reason to choose SGS3 over HOS?
Thanks for your opinions.

As far as build quality... I've never owned an S3 but I had an S2 that cracked RIGHT OPEN because it's made of plastic... I believe the S3 is as well, right? The HTC One S has the clear advantage when it comes to the physical shell. Metal beats plastic any day for me... The S3 is better hardware wise, the international is quad-core tegra if I'm not mistaken but I'd still pick the HOS S4 myself.
1. When the one S struggles, the GS 3 will struggle, there is nothing that either phone will struggle with in 2 years time apart from some more demanding games probably.
Just look at the GS 2 and GN, both still perform very well (granted the one S and GS 3 feel quicker in general stuff but the difference isn't as vast, thanks to jellybean) yet their hardware is inferior to both and they are what? 2 years old now? And I can see both doing well for another year.
2. Up to you really, I think it is a cool feature, however, when I think about it, I would very rarely use it, now on a note II, then things would be different due to the screen size. Besides you can get apps on the market, which allows you to multi-task in a similar way such as over skreen:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...vbS5teWJveWZyaWVuZGlzYWdlZWsuYWlyYnJvd3NlciJd
The main thing that I would look at though is software updates, which will be supported for longer and how quick will the updates be delivered? Unfortunately too hard to say, although Samsung are very slow when it comes to their phones which are no longer number 1....
Saying that, no company has commented on 4.2 yet and the next android version (KLP) is due in May and if it is as big as what ICS was, then chances are you are going to be waiting 9+ months anyway regardless of what phone you stick with.
And no, the international is not tegra, but exynos, S4 chipset is still better overall.
Also, phones might be plastic, however, that doesn't necessarily mean that they will have poor durability. Aluminium phones are usually more likely to damage due to them not "absorbing" the shock as well. The GS 2 is one of the most durable smartphones, GS 3 isn't, because the glass extends right to the edge so the one S would be more durable than the GS 3. At the end of the day, it comes down to luck and where/how the phone lands.

I'm a proud owner of a HOS S4, rooted and all! Problems I HAD with my phone were before I rooted it. One major issue with the HOS is that my connectivity was really BAD, barely 1G indoors! This was, however, the only problem.
As far as I know the s3 does not have such problems (maybe other kinds, I don't know). It has superior hardware and capabillities though.
So my opinion: if you're not rooting the HOS go for the s3. If you ARE rooting, stick to the HOS, best device for customization
Sent from my One S
The HOS is an excellent device. Plain and simple.
For the 2nd question... I dont think its a dealbreaker... I think the screens on a phone is too small to fully enjoy such a feature.
Had it been a tablet in question here, then I would probably be quite interested in that feature myself.
The S have plenty of power, so switching apps isnt really such a big issue as it can be on slower devices.
Thanks for all your opinions. You helped to strengthen my heartily decision. I ll keep my dear HOS.

Hello xda!
as of today i bid farewell to my s3, it has never let me down, the phone was great and its modding community was even better. however the phone has taken its toll of abuse, and this is the second time ive cracked the screen on it .
So its time to get me a new phone, but im not so sure what to get, I use the flashlight a lot and it has saved me from lots of day to day situations.
i was considering getting a oneplus one, but a coworker has that and the flashlight is very weak, theres even a comparison video on youtube specifically between the s3 and one+
So i came to ask here after a bunch of google searches that pretty much got me no answers.
What android phones have the brightest flashlight?
The more mentioned the better, im quite picky with choosing my new phone, even considering staying true to the s3 and getting me a replacement screen haha
thanks
ps the more recent the phone the better, really hoping for one that will get/have a lollipop port
The flashlight on my Note 3 is painfully bright. (I use it for DIY around the house.) The one on the Note 4 is, too.
But the size of those devices is something you either love or hate.
All recent Samsung S and Note devices use the same LED for the flash. So the S5 is also an option.
Haven't tested the flashlight on any other brand.

I have had my Verizon Note 5 for 9 days now. I really want to love it. Like a wayward child I want to hold it and tell it everything will be ok. I want to look at its beautiful face and ignore the behavioral issues.
But I just can't.
I have had every note since Note 2 (and Note 2 with unlocked BL is STILL my daily driver.)
But with the note 5 i just cant get over everything that makes it a non note
I have been told that USB-otg works, but I mainly used the Samsung multimedia doc (from note 2) that allowed keyboard and mouse, charging and HDMI out.
The LG v10 seems like a step in the right direction... if only it weren't so blasted ugly!
Those of you who have had the phone longer... help me get out of my funk! cus as of right now this thing is getting returned in 3 days.
If you don't like it, return it. No one here needs to convince you of anything.
The is no right or wrong. To me the stylus makes it a Note, and I'm ok with the features. If you're not, that's ok - return the phone.
It is a lot of money if you aren't happy with it.
For me the V10 was too darn big. But that's me, you might be fine with it.

The note 5 is a damn good phone. I've had mines since it came out. If u what a unlocked boot loader then return ur note 5 and buy one from Samsung. Yes I would love to have a unlocked boot loader but we all know how vzw is.The s-pen makes it a note not the boot loader being unlocked. The size makes it a note as well. There is to much good that out weigh the bad. Love my note 5 for now.

Honestly, I have had my Note 5 since launch day and minus a few issues (on Verizon's end, NOT Samsung's), I love it. It does everything I need it to do plus more. I really love the S-Pen and the rapid charging. Battery life is fine with me (if you honestly don't have an external battery charger, wall charger, or car charger then you shouldn't have a high end device). The picture quality is unbelievable, etc. Honestly, to me, the Note 5 is on top of the food chain but this is your preference and your decision. If you're note happy with it, then return it and get another phone that you're happy with (that's the beauty of a 15 day return policy, haha). Don't spend a ton of money and settle for a phone that isn't meeting your needs. There's no right or wrong answer on purchasing a device.
I'm a longtime HTC fanboy (I just dig the aesthetic of Sense and HTC's general skinning) and have always hated TouchWiz. However, now that you can do some base themeing, it's a better experience.
At the end of the day, Samsung Pay is pretty damned awesome. That alone will keep me on the N5 for a long while.
This was my feedback to samsung on the note 5. Not that they'll consider it, but nonetheless, I feel the same way.
I previously had a note 3, and absolutely loved it. It was the perfect phone for a power user. But time passed and it was time to upgrade and I figured I'd try the note 5. I'm regretting that decision more by the day. Honestly, if I could replace the battery, root it, and it had an ir blaster, it would be my new perfect phone. Nevermind it didn't get the spec bump this year - it's fast enough really. The phone is pretty, but a phone is a functional device first and accessory second.
I thought I could handle not having a replaceable battery - I was wrong. I'm on the road a lot and being able to replace the battery is invaluable. 3000 mah isn't cutting it.
I need to be able to modify the software if I want. I don't feel like I own my phone, and I resent it more the longer I think about it. I realize there are other options but, honestly, I really do like samsung phones. And I want to like this one.
I loved being able to control my entire htpc from my phone. I'm probably still a bit of a niche user in this regard, but why remove the ir blaster?
Bottom line, I'm going to have to sell this phone and get a Note 4, and hope you guys get it right next time. This one was a total miss for me. I wanted a newer note - you gave me a blown up S6 with a stylus.

Thais is exactly how I feel about the Note 5. I've upgraded, heck, pre-ordered two Note 3 and two Note 4, but I didn't upgrade to the Note 5. I just felt so under whelmed, plus the fact that it can't be rooted just sucks. It's a huge let down considering I have a Note 4 Developer Edition.
Ultimately I went with the Nexus 6P. I'm really liking it so far, and the more I use it, the more I can't justify the $200 price premium of the Note 5.

I've had many phones over the past year and settled with the Note 5. Although it's locked and unrootable I still chose it because I can do everything I liked to do on a rooted phone and more. No I can't physically remove unwanted system apps but I can hide and disable them with package disabler or the debloat tool. Removing them matters little because you can't make the system partition smaller to use the space anyways. The size is fixed. As for the IR blaster I never used it much and always ended up disabling it. The s-pen works the best out of all the note series I have used going back to the Note 3. If anyone is thinking about purchasing this phone or any other I suggest that you do your research before doing so. I had the S6 before this and loved it but always wished it was a bit larger and had the s-pen. So when the Note 5 came out I jumped on it and have been happy since day one. Yes root and a unlocked bootloader would be nice but I'm not about to switch to a inferior phone or carrier for that. It's just not worth it to me.
My Note 5 performs flawlessly
Just got the hotspot working. Started a VPN connection, then fired up foxfi free edition. Foxfi uses it's own vpn, so it disconnected mine. When foxfi timed out, hotspot stayed up. Not sure why, but it's working through the native tether. No VPN is connected now (full speed connection).
I like it, somewhat. I waited until I could find the right price. $400 on Craigslist. All set up and good to go. I don't like the size, it's too narrow for my hands. It is snappy and responsive. The camera is nice. I do groan a lot, missing things like the IR blaster and removable SD card. It's a nightmare to load everything on here and I dread the impending factory resets. But it's good enough, I guess.
I could have been more impressed though. Samsung set the bar way too high with the Note4 and Edge advancements they made when they released them. They have done no such thing on the Note5 though.
I don't really have complaints, so to speak. But it really could have been more innovative, as past Notes have been. It is still great. I do like it. But my expectations have not been exceeded as they always have been in the past with Samsung.

Would be nice if the note had the same curved edges as the edge plus. But then again, I prefer the curved back more because its easier to hold. Im sure they could have pulled off both if they really wanted to. However that would be one less change they can make make for the note 6 next year.

Why are looking to get rid of your Note?
Sent from my ONE E1005 using Tapatalk
Every Android device I've ever owned has been rooted the same day (if possible) and tinkered with. I'm addicted to installing ROMS and xposed modules and whatever new thing is out there.
I have the chance to get a brand new in box, stock Note 12.2 running KitKat. I'll update it to Lollipop if I buy it. Thing is, the device is already nearing 3 years old and I am not sure if it's worth it for a device with no root or custom ROM.
My question is:
Despite the limitations - is it still a nice device for $200. Is there sluggishness or any reason to say no? I still would like to use it with general items.
This is the best tablet I've ever owned. Screen protection is a must as I scratched mine within the first few days, but I've had it since the initial release date....Still use it daily. Great for reading books, comics, and PDF files. I take tons of notes on it at work and I use ArtFlow for digital painting.
Is this a deal for everyone, or is it specific to new accounts? I'd be tempted to get a second one and retire mine for my kids.
Thanks. Is it worth paying $200 today though? I really like how it looks, but wonder if it's past it's prime. (I'd hate to get bored of it within a day or two.)
It's only a deal for me. At my friends last job they gave everyone the devices, and he's never used it. Still in the original packing with original plastic. He booted it up once and never again.
I'd have it contract-free.
$200 may be a finite number but its value can be subjective . . You haven't noted any compelling reasons to get a Note Pro over other tablets, which makes determining value even harder. Everyone's use case is different. For me, 2 years ago when this thing came out I bought one as soon as it hit the store shelves and a couple of months in destroyed it by forgetting it on the roof of a company truck (flew off on the highway and got crushed by a semi) . . I bought another one a month or two later. Were I to lose this Note Pro today I'd certainly drop $200 down for one but if I couldn't get one for under $500 I'd probably go hog wild on an i5 256GB Surface Pro 4 instead.
Reading your original post my first thought was "Hmm is there root and custom recovery for the Verizon variant?" followed by "I wonder if there's custom ROMs for it . . " It's not like there's a ton of development for the WiFi variant let alone the carrier specific ones. I'm not saying there aren't custom ROMs or root for the 905V . . just saying you should verify before purchase.
Bought it and I love it so far. Running 4.4.2 rooted.
2 last questions:
1) I am guessing xposed won't be available since there is no recovery to flash it? Is there an alternative way? I'll check when I get home tonight.
2) All I want is to change the DPI, if I screw it up, is it just possible to boot to the normal recovery and reset the thing? I haven't tried messing around in the stock recovery yet. (Tonight!)
Thanks!
I have both the Samsung Note Pro and the SAmsung S2 Tablet. I like the S2 a lot better. The Note Pro got to a point where it's lagging and slow responses with each button press. It's also quite heavy and the GPU is weak for games like FFRK. The S2 is the best tablet so far, very fast, light, fingerprint reader, plays games like a champ.
