[Q] Help! sensation XE battery drain and charging problems - HTC Sensation

My sensation XE is having massive battery drain after rooting. it goes from 100% to flat in less than 3 hours in standby mode. i can't even charge it 'cause it drains even when charging in AC AND even with the phone turned off. the display consumption is constant at 95% even though i deactivated the automatic brightness and put it at minimum.
I can only charge the battery via a modded USB cable.
I don't have an extra battery so i can't try using another one and i want to consult you guys before buying a new one.
Any ideas?
I'm running on ARHD 6.8.0 XE with Beats Audio

You might be experiencing a wake lock.to find out download better battery stats it will let you know what is causing the wake lock. This way you can fix the situation. Hope this was helpful.

A long time ago I have this problem on a Nokia and I send it for repair and they say that is the charging processor that is burned and it drain very fast battery. Well I have one idea try underclock your CPU to 192 max and 192 min and write here the results. Did you try to do a new fresh install, without app and maybe without HTC sense????

Ok that means that you have some hardware broked. Try yourself to use all hardware. Ex: camera, Bluetooth, WiFi, mobile conn, light sensor, front facing camera, sofkeys, microSD, try also plugin to the computer, then try speakers and microphone. Write if you have some problem

i'm afraid so...when i try to charge it (phone off), the orange led turns on for a few seconds, turns off then turns on again and it stays.
does that mean anything?
i'll try to buy another battery to see if the problem insists.

Settings> Audio> pocket mode off, vibration feedback off, other stuff that might use the proximity and the G sensor off.
Also check your installed apps some of them tend to stay active even after you "quit" them (you can't actualy quit). Download "system panel" for that, and you will see in te left of an app if it uses the cpu Even if an app is there is not actualy draining battery, only if it uses the cpu.
So don't use task killers, they will only drain you more battery.
I keep my screen on auto brightness, and i still get 2 days.
Hope i helped you.
Though I just S-off and rooted but will still try out what you guys say

Leedroid ROM, and unity kernel = awesome combination.
I get really really good battery life
At least much better than stock!
I'm using LBC mod, the newest released version works wonders for the battery!

I used to have this problem constantly. I'm not lucky when it comes to battery life.
Could be the battery. Try LBC v0.6 and get setcpu. See if that helps if you haven't done so already.
Unity kernel sucked my battery dry.

Have you tried the tiamat kernel? Also, I recommend investing in Tasker to squeeze the most out of your battery. Simply having it automatically go into airplane mode when you sleep helps. Get it (like me) turning auto-sync on for 2 minutes every 15 minutes aswell, and you get over 24 hours battery with heavy use.

On second inspection. Yes LBC is still draining my battery dry. You're not alone. It's beautiful when screen off, but as soon as the screen is on, and its like 1% per minute. Scary.

I had this problem when still on stock ROM and had a few widgets collecting data in the background. It wasn't all that severe though; I had to charge the phone once a day. Since I installed LBC mod, I only have to charge the phone every two days
Use this to track down the battery drain...
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.asksven.betterbatterystats
And/or this...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1031124
If it's data traffic related this'll point you at which specific app is using it...
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.radioopt.widget&feature=search_result
Then either un-install the culprit, or try different kernel, or freeze the sucka using Titanium Backup. See if that helps. Either way, would be interested to know what you discover.
1% per minute is scary drain I agree. Something not quite right there. You're not OC to silly levels are you?
Yes, the new lbc ROM gas a drainage problem... Mine was dropping very fast. Switched back to leedroid, great battery life again! (Stock kernel) I also use setcpu
I reckon it could last me 2 days moderate usage, and 3 light usage!

This is not true, when I first bought my sensation, it came with gingerbread sense 3.0, and the flash stopped working at 20%. Now I am on ARHD 6.51 and it's the same exact thing, Under 20%.
EDIT: I was checking my flashlight when I said it worked above 20%. Now that I checked the actual camera app it seems like you are right.

Last night i charged my phone 100% and when i woke up after 5 hours it was completely out of Battery.. I didnt use it overnight.. Any idea what could have caused this??

faulty battery buddy it seems....I am also using the same theme as yours and the phone has 2 hrs of on screen time
Ok for you guys having battery life problems Here is what I did .My phone was dead in six hours. After doing this I am at 2% per hours no problems. Even though I have only one sync which is HTC mail on demand I did not set times within the mail app to sync you need to set those parameters to only sync once every two hours in peak hours and one every 6 hours in offpeake time. I found all this out by using better battery stats partial wakelocks and current widget I hope this helps a few people! I unplugged my phone at 8:45 AM yesterday and am at 42% right now so It is running like a champ.

Q: Battery gives wrong reading

I'm facing some battery problems at the moment. My battery drains extremely fast that it won't last past half a day. When I charge it it charges extremely fast from 0-50%, then slows down. When I restart the phone at around 60% when charging, the phone becomes fully charged.. anyway to solve this issue ?

Don't worry, incorrect battery information is common after flashing a new ROM.
What you need to do is download a Battery Calibration app from the Play Store.
I recommend this one. Charge your phone to 100% and calibrate.
It can also be the first signs of your battery beginning to die.

Random shut downs often occur due to over heating of the battery.
I guess if you aren't experiencing any of that, you don't have any problems with battery temperature.
How old is the battery? And how suddenly has the problem come up?
I run into this problem many times.
But very simple solution if there's nothing wrong with battery or phone.
1.reboot into recovery.
2. Wipe battery stats under advanced.
3. Let your phone completely die on battery. Turn it back on couple of time and let it die.
4. Charge your phone to 100% + 10-15 extra mins.
5. Reboot into recovery and clear battery stats again.

I do something like this, but without all the extra hassle. There is an app called Battery Calibration, it shows you a read of your batteries mV and it does the same thing as the above, wipes battery stats.
I use it to check my mV, which with an anker 1900 the max mV is 4203. I keep my phone on charge once it hits 100%, then allow it to drop down to 99%, unplug it and plug it back in, it takes several times doing this, but once my battery % being 100 and my max mV (4200), match, I wipe my battery stats (Hit battery calibration.)
One thing I have noticed with ALL ICS ROMs is the incorrect battery reading after rebooting. You'll have say 56%, once you reboot it will jump 15-30% and show, say 79%. Then it drops quickly down what it was prior to the reboot.
Doing a battery calibration in no way helps extend battery life, for me it just does the same thing that will happen after several cycles anyhow, it just saves you time from having to run multiple cycles to get your device and battery to sync up.
This is just what I personally do, I know people are going to post saying that doing a battery calibration is pointless, and probably point you to where google even said it, etc, etc. As far as the calibration doing anything special, it doesn't. I simply do this to get my device (When at 100%) to see my battery at 100% (4200mV). It works for me.

Well I guess I don't do different things, I just do it differently!

Random shut downs often occur due to over heating of the battery.
I guess if you aren't experiencing any of that, you don't have any problems with battery temperature.
How old is the battery? And how suddenly has the problem come up?

Battery is 3 months old.. use it rarely as it is my spare battery.. Does making it a spare battery affects it?

Yes! Once you start using a spare battery, you should ALWAYS alternate between the two batteries. Otherwise, it will affect the life of the battery.
Use One, Drain it, Use the other, Drain it, and repeat the cycle. Always charge your battery through your phone and not through a battery charger as this will charge the battery in highly optimum conditions and the phone will keep a track of the battery status.

Any and all batteries my friend
You don't do anything. Just fit it and go. Charge it as and when.

Ya what he said.. put it in, charge use...charge.. calibration is just dumb. Ur phone knows how to handle the battery. Battstats are wiped at full charge anyways.
Whell my phone turn off under 20%(or around that) i made 3-4 full cycles first than wait some time in 100% and wipe batt stat and still same problem and bat reading is not proper all the time .. and the battery is new

It sounds like your battery is faulty, my ankers go down to 1% before switching off but they do drop very quickly when they reach 10%. Battery readings are accurate, apart from after restart when the % spikes upward then quickly drops back to the correct level.

It's not.
All it does is delete your batterystats.bin file. It doesn't calibrate anything.

Charge your phone to 100% and it deletes .bin also. App is worthless
I bought a used HTC Sensation that came with an Anker battery. I don't know if the previous owner calibrated it or not. Would it still benefit me to calibrate it now?
