[Q] [HELP] Really Dead Nexus - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hope you can help.
Today in the morning, I wake up and see that my phone was stuck at the google logo. I removed the battery but after put it again, the phone didn't start. No google logo, no recovery screen, nothing.
Does anyone know an alternative method to start (resurrect) this thing?
Model: i9020a

Are you able to load fastboot using the power and vol up button?

Remove the battery for a while. While the battery is out, plug the phone in with both AC and USB charging.. this will help you see if it's a defective battery

What is curious is that whatever button combination you use, there is no response at all. And the phone was working without problem only a couple hours before. Even if I plug, there is no battery charging image.

Battery's dead?

Aw man and I thought I had it bad... lol. Good luck with this!
I would try getting your hands on another battery though. I don't think the phone would boot up without a recognizable battery whether it had enough power or not. Maybe someone that actually knows can say... Either way I'll try it with mine tomorrow (mine boots into fastboot and recovery at least) and let you know

Looks like trying out another battery might be the only next logical step. No response even when plugged in for charging indicates a possible battery issue.

hey...
you got a similar condition with my phone...
dont know what to do now...

I had read a lot of forums that said that with the JB upgrade (any type: AOSP, OTA, etc), after some time, theirs phones gone dead as well. Seems there is some problem with the bootloader that affect the mainframe (motherboard?). No one has been able to resolve this problem.

So you are saying that Jelly Bean bricks the Nexus S? Where have you read this? It seems like a very serious accusation/assumption.

Mine is doing the same thing. At least it turns on to the Google screen if I remove the chip labled sandisk. Its also the card that has the nfc contacts. Any solution yet?

I had the exact same thing happened to me. I installed a custom jb ROM (I was already using an earlier version of the same rom) and I noticed abnormal battery drain and in a few hours it died completely. No response at all. Tries different batteries, chargers, everything. I tried sending it in to get it fixed but I was told they found corrosion on the board which was true so it would coat 450 to fix! But I know for a fact that wasn't the reason why the phone was completely unresponsive. I went to wind to get it fixed and the guy told me that they've been getting a crap load of nexus s devices back for the exact same reason. This coincided with the jelly bean upgrade. There's definitely an issue happening with the upgrade but Google or Samsung aren't saying anything.

HTC Sensation Bricked? Suddenly can't turn on anymore..

Hi guys,
I've run into some problems, I installed Android Revolution HD 6.5 two days ago. Everything worked like a charm, now I shutted down my phone to go in recovery, sadly enough my phone won't reboot, does not charge nor does it respond to my desperate pushes on the power button. Anyone experienced anything like this?
Worth mentioning also is that the battery was 80+% charged.. So it would seem strange to me that this would anything to do with eventual dead battery.
Just to be clear: hadn't installed anything, nothing less, nothing more.
If I could just get acces to bootloader through usb or anything like this.
I fear that there is someting seriously wrong here?
What are you guys thinking? Any possible solutions?
Hi,
The same thing more or less happened to me.
My phone went dead one night and wouldnt turn on, charge or connect with the PC. I had already arranged a repair with HTC for another issue and so I sent it off to them and a few days later I now have it back and it is working fine so far.
They replaced the mainboard and a few other bits and pieces all under warranty.
I hope you get your phone fixed and sorted asap.

Hi,
Is there any chance the battery pins could be damaged or bent?
Is there any way for you to get hold of another battery(from a shop or friend) and try that?
I will test the battery in the laboratory tomorrow.. I've read you should get a minimum of 3.6V or something like that? Curious to see what has caused this problem. Do you think htc would see I flashed a custom rom on it if I send it to repair?

Hi,
That is why i suggest a different battery.
If they can switch it on,they will see the s-off.
If they cannot,it does not matter.

They don't use a JTAG unit or anything like that to see what has went wrong than I presume? Well, first thing I'll do is test it right away at the laboratory. I will post the result in the evening.

My sensation was rooted and had a custom ROM on, but I was preparing to send the phone back in when it got bricked. I had managed to install stock rom and do S-on but the phone had an unlocked bootloader using HTC dev website, so I was worried they wouldnt do the repair.
As it happens they did all the work under warranty and didnt say/ mention having unlocked bootloader. It has come back locked though.
Was anybody able to find a fix for this?
My sensation 4g has basically the same problem. After rooting and installing ICS it worked fine for a few days then it ceased booting or responding to a charger (no LED response). I was able to turn on the phone again by letting it sit for a while but no luck lately. I'm wondering if my phone is bricked?
When I press the power button the screen stays black with lights on (no LED).
I can't get into bootloader and the phone is not detected by ADB, I tried the unbricking project thread by Dexter, however my phone is not detected by linux. On windows, i did get it to detect as qhsusb_dload.
Any thoughts would be helpful!
Thanks

If your getting QHSUSB DLOAD I'm so sorry to tell you as I believe your device is HARD BRICKED. You can try jtag. If you search there are several companies who will jtag. I'm wishing you the best and I'm sorry about your device.

I had to return my HTC Sensation to the repair center. Apparently the motherboard just fried. I got a new motherboard and just S-OFFed the phone again. Very weird problem though. As has been said in this post earlier, if they can't turn on the device they won't see it is S-OFFed and your warranty will apply.

ROM Restore -> BRICKED :'(

Recently have been using the CM10 Jellybean ROM until the ROM manager update ruined my music and galleries. In any case I found it a a little laggy and buggy for the time being. I decided to restore from CMW back to my previous rascream and after reboot, got the Google screen bootloop. I had the battery pull to stop it but after one battery pull, the Nexus S no longer turns on. Plugging into the charger, nothing shows up. I have tried to pull battery again and enter recovery mode but nothing's happening.
Have I properly borked it?
- battery was fully charged at the time
- using clockwordmod 5.0.1.4 (old)
- i9023
Can you still boot into fastboot? You should still be okay if you can at least get there.
These phones are very hard to brick. I'd there any lights at all?

thanks for the replies.
I can't get into anything on the phone. Pressing any combination of buttons doesn't light soft keys nor screen up. Also charging the phone for periods doesn't heat up the battery like some others have had.
I've put linux onto one of my old computer and tried the software AdamOutler mod to no avail. Both the Mode detector and Unbrickresurrector don't recognise my phone....
If you have the Problem with the gallery, you simply have to clear the Cache and Dalvik cache.....
=> Next time ? ,-)
No response at all.....I believe your last chance is JTAG.
hmmmm....... my last resort was to take it to a repairer and see what they think. Hopefully they can get it to power on and then I can sort out the rest.

Just an update on this. I returned my phone to warranty to be fixed. According to the repair notes, there seemed to be a problem with the board (not software related) thus was replaced. It also says in the warranty notes that the i9023 has quite a few of these board related problems.
Anyway, got Jellybean running OTA from Vodafone and it's working fine.

HELP! Battery indicator automatically increasing without charging..

My lil' bro's GT2-P3110's battery indicator/notification became weird, it was started last night. The battery indicator/notification was increasing automatically without charging it. I've tried rebooting the device but it keeps on increasing. After rebooting, the battery indicator was 40% but after a few seconds it will increase until it reached 100%. It was frustrating because it didn't know what is the real battery status of the device. =(
I hope anyone can I help me out. Thanks in advance!

Thank you for your suggestion..I've already done factory-reset for the tab, but the problem is still there. Battery indicator still keeps on increasing. =(
standard thing to try whenever battery does weird stuff is use it till it shuts off, then WHILE TURNED OFF recharge completely and leave there for like 30 minutes after fully charging to make sure its "topped off" then see if the problem persists.
try hard reset or anther rom

Being unrooted has that one major advantage. Calling for support could lead to a manufacturer warranty replacement if they can't figure it out. Whatever you do/figure out, plz report back. Good luck!
My friend is having the same issue with his tab 2. He gave it to the service station. They simply flash the latest firmware and gave it back. The problem still remains the same. Even doing a factory hard reset hasn't solve the issue.

I've had the same issue in the past. I cant remember how I fixed it but I think you should get rid of the issue by deledit the battery atats from recovery, whiping dalvik and fixing permission. This of course would require a rooted tab. If you are not rooted the contact samsung.

This was happened to my phone too.
You're USB Port is damaged. You need the replace it.
same Issue occured today
i also faced the same issue today... tried to analyze it... here are my observations
1) the battery was fine cuz i played dead trigger, wild blood and dead space for 1 hr and then played 1080 p videos for 45 min to see if battery has given up..
that wasnt the case
2) Factory reset/ data in stock unrooted rom dosent help...
3)After the battery reaches 100% and if u restart the tab. it will start from 3 or 4 % and increase again... basically i think battery level goes above 100% ( yeah i know it sounds weird) and on restarting it will see 104% as 4%...
4) usb OTG was working fine so i can't find the fault the usb.. and the tab was registering charging ( the green line in battery stats) on plugging in the charger....
So i concluded that maybe there is something wrong with software rom/kernel in the system...
Anyhow I gave it to the service center... hope this gets solved soon :fingers-crossed:
Update : The motherboard had to be replaced... Seems the charging port damage cause fits in... So anyone facing this problem has high chances the charging port is damaged even if it might work fine

[Q] Random shutdowns

My skyrocket randomly shuts down this was noticed ever since i got the phone with stock ICS and was observed with every ROM it has been on since. This issue is not be confused with restarts that are reported in this forum because of a sticky power button. The phone shuts down and then i have start with the power button pressed for approx 10 seconds, longer than the usual 4 seconds. The phone is not stuck in boot loop and is not vibrating as noticed in other threads. So i'm eliminating the sticky power button and postponed opening up the phone to clean it.
One fix i read here which didn't solve the problem, Battery Contacts need to be clean : Done but didn't fix the issue.
Not sure if this is of any help but i had to replace the battery cover since day one cause i got a used phone and the previous owner lost the battery cover. Could the battery be not held in place properly because of this?
Any pointers on what could be the root cause of this shutdown issue?? Is there any method in which i can capture some data to try and help in identifying the root cause using some logging feature?? Or its purely a hardware issue like defective battery??
defective battery is a reasonable cause, backdoor is also possible but unlikely. Even with stock Odin 2.3.6 GB it still restarts?

thats usually a rom issue, if you had to hold power button for 10 secs to restart it then its not a shutdown issue its a bsod(black screen of death), flash stock, ics preferred, but whatever you like.

[Q] HTC ONE S Bricked

Hey Guys,
a friend of mine just bricked his HTC-OneS and I'm here to help him get it back to life
He installed the latest PacMan Rom and everything was awesome.
All over sudden the Phone didn't boot up anymore.
It can be charged via USB, so maybe one can do something over USB
Windows-PC doesn't recognize the Phone he says...
As far as I remember its an HTC One s ville c2 (is there anything like this)
Due to the Fact that I'm a Motorola User, I have no idea where to start trying to recover his Phone...
Please Help me do it
do you know how to use some adb/fastboot commands? run fastboot oem getcid in the bootloader.
hold down volume down and power to go into the bootloader.
I would try to get into the bootloader first. That would provide a gateway to possibly fixing his (or her) phone.
Hope to get into bootloader, will get hands in his phone in monday.
Coming from Motorola i'm used to a factory tool where i can flash official Firmware via PC. Is there anything like this for HTC phones?
If not first thing i would try is flashing a New recovery system via fastboot to have sth to work with. Anyone agree with this plan?
Sent from my XT925 using xda app-developers app
I don't think I've ever seen a tool like that. I think the best bet would be to get into recovery, mount and try to flash a new rom (C2 roms in this case).

Yes, go to androidruu.com, look for villec2 and click on it. The latest RUU should work unless he is carrier branded. Then you will need to use a carrier RUU.
Got hands on his phone and it doesnt do anything...
No bootloader nothing.
Only thing that happens is that it recognizes its on a wallplug...

Anyone got an idea?
The little charging LED is red, is it possible that there is some kind of battery driver missing, so the phone won't charge anymore and the battery is empty?
and is there an option to solve this?

Really sounds like it is hard bricked.
I could mention things that you have already most likely tried.
Holding power down for 30 seconds
holding power down for 10 seconds under bright light so the front sensor registers (prevents messing up your phone while in your pocket)
when plugged in computer, does device manager show it as "qhsusb_dload" (bricked)
Hold power down and volume down for 10 seconds. release power button and continue holding volume down.
From replies from manufacturer that people post here, often they replace the battery and (motherboard?) Seems like something happens and a sudden battery discharge messes up the works.

So quick question, due to the fact that the Phone is hard bricked, can i send the Phone back in, and get things fixed, cause the Phone was s-off and rooted before, so warranty is void.
Is there any way they could find out about it? Like a blown fuse or anything?

Your guess is as good as mine. There was one guy who posted here, that they did fix it, and when they sent it back they had turned back on security, or S-on. So they obviously knew and didn't care. One of those ymmv. I kind of doubt he did anything wrong and it is a defect. People post on here with completely stock w/ same symptoms.
