Problems with Sensation XE... Please read! - HTC Sensation

Hi all, I have major problems with the Sensation XE, but before I get to that, a little history on the device...
Was bought from the O2 store last December brand new, s-offed, rooted & customised ROM installed within 2 hours of fully charging battery, all was well until 2 weeks ago, where device would get really hot around the SIM & SD Card holders, as in almost burnt my fingers... then I had the problem of random reboots, the device would randomly freeze with a fuzzy line along the screen, then reboot, only way to get around this was to pull the battery & leave for ages... next problem is I couldnt get a mobile network, after the lengthy process of searching for and selecting the O2 network I was informed that my Sim card didnt allow a connection to O2, being as the phone was also unlocked to any network, I tried another network, but always the same result... Managed to get the phone back to O2 stock S-On, and took to O2 and told them of my problems, so they send the phone back to be fixed for free as it was still in warrenty, I got it back a few days later, only to be told that its not been fixed as the IMEI number is different to the number on the phone & box, could this be why I wasnt allowed on any networks?
Anyway, I tried in vain using every tutorial I could find to restore the correct IMEI number onto the phone with the fastboot oem writeimei command, when verifying it was correct, UNTIL reboot then it defaults back to this new IMEI number (which the +#06# version differs from the number thrown back when I fastboot getvar imei, so WTF is going on? also, the phone still randomly freezes & boot loops again, once stable at best its a mobile phone sized tablet with only WiFi access...
So I call up O2 to complain, and after going through all the options (I refuse to pay FULL price for a phone I got cheap as part of a 24Month contract) so the guy advises me he could offer me something like an out of warrenty replacement phone or something, basically they take the full retail cost of the phone, take a 70% loss and offer me the refurbished phone for 30% the full price, so I get this and find I cannot root or S-Off it as the hboot is 1.27.0000 which Revolutionary dont support and I cannot get it unlocked by HTCDEV, always says something about verify failed or something like it....
SO... my questions being are: 1) is there a perminant way to restore my IMEI (I do not want to do anything illegal, just replace what once was; 2) how can the IMEI number have changed when its taken me almost a week full of researching and cant find a way to perminantly change it; 3) any way I can temproot the new unlockable XE so I can flash a custom recovery, AND 4) what can I do to get a fully working ROOTED & S-OFF'ed mobile?
Thanks for taking the time to read this long post, and I hope that I get lots of helpful things to try

now there is a method to do soff ..,,which doesnt require HTC-DEV unlcok process
check my soff guide ...link in my signature
regarding IMEI question:
1. why do you want to change the IMEI ?
2. im confused somewhat ..did you got the replacement phone and want to change the IMEI of it ? why ?
3. IMEI change is not impossible ..but cant be revealed in XDA ..the process is illegal in some countries ..and revealing the process is highly dangerous

I don't understand why you need to change IMEI number? Please can you explain why this is necessary?

Thanks for your quick replies I want to change the IMEI on my original phone back to its original IMEI number, as stated, somehow between the first time it started messing up to the time the O2 tech people got it, the IMEI on the handset has changed from its proper number, which incidentally this number is different also from doing a *#06# and the fastboot get IMEI command. I have no intention of breaking the law, I just want to restore the number that it has on the sticker under the battery and also the IMEI number on its original box. Somehow it has changed and if it's possible for it changing once, I should be able to restore it

If possible return the phone same way to the O2 ppl as you are paying for the replacement anyway..
Send me a pm.. If O2 ppl didn't accepted it and you want to restore the phone back to original position (I know a method to do the required change but I can't reveal it publicly in xda)

[Q] Help! No Service / Can't search for networks!

Oh boy. I've done something ..interesting.. to my new nexus s. Could you guys help me?
Okay, So I've been running miui for about a month now, and today I decided I will try the oxygen rom, along with a new radio (K3B). I flashed the radio over miui and all was fine.
Next I wiped and installed oxygen. No service. I couldn't even view available networks. I had a play around with the service menu (*#*#4636#*#*) and changed regions etc, but no luck.
The next thing I did was to try and revert to stock, by following the unlockrs guide (http://theunlockr.com/2011/01/20/how-to-unroot-the-nexus-s/). This seemed strange to me, as it was only a nandroid backup. Now I'm on 'stock' with no cell radio and a small wifi only tablet.
So, my real question is, can I fastboot or ODIN back to complete stock (radio, system, recovery, etc) or are there any other fixes for this problem?
Thanks! I'm desperate :S
Which Nexus S you got? Which ROMs you flashed exactly? Which radio did you flash, never heared of KB3b?
I'd assume you have a i9020T (since you used the GRH78 nandroid backup)? Then you could use the ROM in my sig to flash back to stock.
However, I never flash any nandroid backup that isn't my own, especially if they are crossing release numbers, eg 2.3.5 to 2.3.3.
I have the i9020T, flahsed the XXKB3 Radio (see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116884).
I don't think flashing back to stock helps too much
Go here and get yourself a flashable full ROM for the i9020t, it will include a fitting radio (and a stock recovery). Remember to wipe everything before installing the ROM via cwm recovery. I'd also format stuff in "Mount and storage" (except sdcard for obvious reasons ).
Tried that. No success. I also used ODIN to revert to stock again. No success. Tried all the radios available for i9020t, none of them work.
My IMEI is intact still, my baseband /should/ be working, I really don't see anything more I can do except assume its a hardware issue. I'll give samsung a call now and see what I can do. Thanks for your help.
Maybe your carrier banned your IMEI for w/e reason.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I've tried multiple sim cards, and even if my carrier did block me (why would they do that?) I would still be able to at least view other network operators (and mine) in the Mobile networks menu.
Well multiple sim cards NOT working in your device could mean your IMEI is banned. Carriers block IMEIs for several reasons, stolen phones, contract abuse, carrier crossing, unpaid bills, etc etc.
Contact them and ask. If they didn't block anything you're still one step closer to solving the problem, next step exchange the SIM card, final step would be to contact Samsung and have them check for faulty hardware.
I'm starting to think thats the case.. My original sim card is dead and won't work in other phones now.
What I really don't understand is why they would blacklist me. I've been with my carrier for two years, since they started up. I'm a prepaid customer, so no unpaid bills. My phone is brand new, purchased it at Best Buy in the US four weeks ago
Maybe they were mistaken? I'll call them later in the day.
Ugh. I talked to my service provider, they said they couldn't do anything and were very unsure. They handed me over to samsung, who were unbelievably unhelpful and told me to turn my phone off and on, and that they couldn't do anything more. Just sent an email to my service provider hoping I get someone more 'higher up' who can deal with it.

possible counterfeit hox / corrupt imei ??

Ok so I purchased a used hox on craigslist the other day. When I first put my sim card in after purchase I was unable to get a data connection using the pta apn. I had network connection and was able to make/receive calls and texts, but had no data connection. I was getting the "misconfigured apn" error in network settings. After some googling I found that I need to switch my plan to an att LTE plan (I am in a covered area). I am not the account holder, and it would be a day or two until I could get in contact with the account holder, so I just threw in the wap.cingular or phone apn and was able to get an hspa connection fine. So I rooted the phone and unlocked the bootloader (using htc dev) without a problem, flashed a few custom roms, everything is working 100%. Except for last night when I finally decided to switch my plan over with AT&T and try to connect to LTE. After about an hour on the phone with technical support, they concluded that I don't have an AT&T phone, which I am certain I do.
I am guessing that the only way they could tell that I didn't have an AT&T phone was from the IMEI which they asked for at the beginning of the call. So I checked the IMEI on the box against the IMEI on the phone and they are different. The SNs match, but the IMEIs are different. I checked out the phone IMEI online and it came back as invalid. (For the record I also checked the box IMEI against the lost and stolen phone database and it was not found)
So, basically, I am wondering if this issue can be caused by something that I did (ie rooting, bootloader unlock, rom flashing, etc) or if I was somehow sold a tampered device or if this is something to be concerned about. Its not a very big deal if its something I did, I understand the risks associated with rooting/unlocking/flashing etc.

what method did you use to unlock the bootloader? If you used the one without HTCDev found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1734558 it changed the IMEI number. You can put it back though.

I actually used the method outlined here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671396, which is probably a similar method under the hood I guess. How would I go about returning the IMEI to stock? Is it as simple as opening mmcblk0p4 in a hex editor and changing the 11111111 back to CWS__001?

Nope.
the method you used doesn't TOUCH IMEI. IMEI and CID are two different things.
did you happen to notice when you got the phone if the bootloader said locked? or was it re-locked?
I suspect if it's the latter then whoever had the phone before you did used the "without htc dev" method to unlock and didn't copy back the unaltered partition when they were done.
There are ways to rewrite the correct IMEI to the phone. I don't know how, and discussion of it is forbidden here. Maybe someone who can help you will send you a PM.

The phone did say locked when I got it. It may have been re-locked, but there is no way for me to be sure. I guess if anyone has info about repairing my IMEI and could pm me I'd really appreciate it. Otherwise I guess I'm out of luck. Thank you very much for your help.

if it said LOCKED then IMEI got corrupted by some other means. Sorry I can't be of more help. I do have a suggestion though.
Find one of those Cell phone stores that advertises flashing phones to some other carrier. Maybe THEY have the means to fix your IMEI.

I'm just glad it was something that I screwed up as opposed to my buying a tampered/stolen device. Mods can probably close this thread, mark it as "solved" or something like that, before we get too far into the IMEI modding stuff. Hopefully I can get this figured out on my own. Thanks again for your help.

It's likely not an IMEI issue....but more likely you don't have an LTE SIM. Symptoms are just that.

[Q] I have s-off and unlocked but can't switch simcard to new network

I have s-off and unlocked but can't switch simcard to new network
I was given a bricked phone by a friend and got the device working again by following the tutorials on the forum. It took four days to do after many trial and errors but eventually I got it done. Also after many fails I got a ROM to work on the phone. I got s-off and the top of hboot says unlocked in pink. I thought that this would also allow me to use any sim card in the device. I tried using another friends SIM who wasn't on the rogers network and it said "enter SIM unlock code". Meaning, i think, that I have missed something along the way. Which is likely considering the vast amount of how-to's and information out there half of which don't work either from my own inexperience or the writers. Anyway I Have found two major conflicting views on the subject namely 1.That if you have s-off and unlocked bootloader you should be able to use any sim and 2.Only buying the unlock code from the carrier will work no matter off or unlocked.
Rather than just paste every scrap of information on the phone that I have garnered from fastboot and through the information through settings could you let me know what I need to give you in order to help me figure out what it is I need to do? Thanks. Having finally getting the phone to work again I don't want to chance of hard bricking it due to messing with the wrong thing now that I got it going again.
And thanks to cyanogenmod, juopunutupbear.io, clockworkmod, dekoslav's how-to and this site, I would never have gotten even that far.
Further information I just foundout via wiki

4g works... That's all. Help getting calls and texts please.

My phone was on clean rom 5.0, Loved it. Everything worked great for 2 months. 3 days ago I flashed CM10. Worked alright. Then flashed MIUI (pre-most recent update). Also worked fine except for some screen flickering. Decided to go back to stock. Did a nandroid restore and when it was finished I had no data or bars period. Restarted the phone to no avail. Called Verizon. They assumed my simm card was fried. Then I went and got a new simm card. They tried to activate it to no avail. After changing my PRL from 00000 to 15154 they were able to get 4g on my phone. It's a little slow but it works. Still no calls and text.
My phone number is 0000004548. Any ideas on fixing this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31051731
This is my next option. Will it help? Come on xda, I have faith you can save me! Thanks all!
Still no luck
I completed the guide in the first post. No dice. I got everything sorted out, My phone number is now correct and all but... I cannot get signal still and I cannot boot into recovery. Weird. Any advice would be great! I'm sure others are in my spot.
Is your imei intact? I also had this problem prior to flashing miui. What I did was go back to completely stock, there is a guide somewhere here, make sure you backup all your data. Once you've boot up to stock, you have to dial the re provision code which is *2767*3855# , it will wipe all your data I believe, then reboot it should work then. After that just reroot unlock flash roms. I hope it works for you. If you've lost your imei you have to do something else which a guide is written on here, but I'm pretty sure you haven't lost your imei.

Yes, first thing to do is to check if your IMEI is intact. Also check your ERI (it should be set to 5).
Just a heads up, the re-provision code @Watoy mentioned only works on early build stock ICS. You can use the code in Root66, so my advice is to Odin back to Root66, which is available for download from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762204
If your IMEI and/or ERI is not intact, the following tool and guide will bring you back to life. You will also need to be on stock ICS for this, and I again recommend Root66 because many users need to perform the re-provision code after performing all of the steps in this guide to complete the process:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1867442
I'm attempting everything you two mentioned right now. I'll let you know how it turned out. I have already done each of these things but this time I'll follow the order (if that makes sense...)
Network - Unknown
Signal - -95 dBm 2 asu
Mobile net type - 1xRTT:6
in service
roaming
disconnected
phone # - 0000004548
Min 0000004548
PRL - 1
ERI - 5
IMEI - 990002068950862
IMEISV - 00
Definitely boot loops for days after flashing stock.vzw_root66.tar Any other ideas?
Alright. Flashed stock.vzw_root66.tar and it bootlooped. I pulled the battery after ten minutes and went into recovery and f/d reset. Network unknown. Signal strength and network type is the same. now service state says in service. Mobile network state still disconnected. PRL changed to 15173. phone number is correct. MIN is 3194421067. ERI is still 5. MEID now reads DEC: 256691456608999046 HEX: 0x99000206895086. IP address is now unavailable.
Can you read all that?
Okay I got the reprovision number to work. Going through that now.
I FIXED IT, Thanks to ya'll.
Now use the dialer code listed earlier

I don't know if I should make a new thread about this? What do ya'll think?
Flashed stock.vzw_root66.tar. Bootlooped, pulled battery, factory /data reset in recovery.
Then dialed the *2767*blah blah. And tada. Everything works.
Post links so I can buy ya'll beers!

A quick look at the thread you linked to, it looks like you need to be back on an ICS ROM (at least for TW) to use the factory reset/reprovision(?) code, after repairing the IMEI.
The key to make it all work together seems to be this order: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33609227&postcount=160

You didn't miss anything, you just need to do that re-provision code. Flash back to this, do the re-provision, and you will be back to normal. No other way about it unfortunately.

Same Issues
I suffered from no sms and no calls, reflashed root_66 tar from odin, then reprovisioned with *2767*3855# and i got sms and calls back but was stuck on roaming with it always trying to get me to install dual clocks, i figured it was a sim card issue as my imei was proper and everything was as stock, i took it to local Verizon, they installed new SIM for free, but it did not fix the issue. With a few kind words and pointing out the extras i spent on accesories, i ended up getting into the Note II. Keep In Mind i was still in my 30 day worry free, but for the SIM card it didnt matter, he did not look up that info till he told me he was going to replace my device if the SIM didnt take. I STRONGLY advise to approach them with kindness, i also informed them it happened when i kept toggling connection when transfering media thru the usb cable, i figured the heat and constant connect/disconnect fried the sim, they never asked if i tried to download any off market apps or anything along the MOD lines. Hope this helps anybody that may need it.. i did follow step 5 of the guide everyone references about rooting jellybean(root, custom recovery, stock), sorry new to forums and havnt figured out the linking yet, but once on the stock file with this name,( COMBINATION_I535VRBLK3_I535VZWBLK3_381038_REV09_user_low_ship.tar)everything read stock except my binary count, but i heard this is only an issue if sending to samsung as verizon reps are unaware of binary counts and odin and stuff related

A friend of mine has a new S6 which is unlocked to work with any network/sim. The phone was working perfectly for a few months.
Now for some reason, it gives the message that no sim detected. Signal bars show up. But no connectivity.
The option in settings Select Network Operator is gone, and no longer there.
I have tried re-flashing stock 5.1.1 ROM and still the same problem. Tried flashing previous 2 modems and got the same error, so flashed back to current one.
Current Baseband: G920FXXU3QOKN
Kernel Version: 3.10.61-5896496 [email protected]#1
Another thing to note is that the phone shows signal bars perfectly, even though there is the no sim message. Also, on removing and re-inserting the sim, it reads the sim and asks to reboot, after which it comes to the same situation.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
I have same issue, and would gladly fix it. :/

IMEI was reset to 350000000006, then some Russian guy fixed it with Z3X box, SIM was able to register, but reception was awfull (lots of missed incoming calls, etc.). then I flashed some more fw and modem to check wheter it would fix dropping signal issues, and then it started not to recognize SIM.
So to sumarize, IMEI (with my EFS, not @tazaga one) is fine in the IMEI info, in SIM info everything is unknown, and mobile networks menu is missing from settings.
I changed SIM for a new one, just to be sure, and is detected only when inserted/removed, then phone wants to restart to enable mobile networks, but after restart, nothing changes.
Serial number was changed, but I corrected it in a file in EFS folder.

Ya by the sounds of it something is still funky in your efs folder
As far as my problem is concerned, the IMEI and the SERIAL number both match the inside and outside. So its not that.
Any other suggestions as to what it could be? Or how to fix?
Flash stock with smart switch but before that make efs backup ( in case things goes down )
Already tried smart switch and also Odin to flash stock. Neither worked.
Would flashing an EFS backup from another phone with the exact same model work?

well I tried to flash @tazaga efs, IMEI gets unknown right after that, but managed to boot up without custom kernel after Smart Switch initialization.
Beside that nothing changed, still no SIM and no mobile networks menu, and sadly couple hours later, phone went to a boot loop.
I took it to some 3dr party repair shop, without restoring original efs and bootable fw/kernel, they said they cannot repair it, but will give phone to some "software specialist" who may be (I seriously doubt it, according to my prevoius experience with 3rd party sw specialists (last time it took me half a day to reach the state phone was in when I deliverd it to them)) able to fix it with a 50-50% chance of fixing it.

I understand that, but I kinda doubt that no SIM issue is somehow tied to IMEI
Because with my efs backup (which was made after Z3X repair) IMEI is fine, but still no SIM.
I was kinda hoping that it could be something else in the EFS folder that made SIM undetectable, but even with your efs backup (thank you once again for it) SIM is not detected, so I guess that no SIM issue is tied to something else that is corrupted, or accidentally switched off.
I just dont know what could it be, because I was messing with service mode and codes unknown to me to try fix poor reception, so god knows what I did to put the phone in state in which is now.
Perhaps I am just trying to provide every information possible, and exchange it with others who have same issue, or more experience than me, so we can together figure out what has caused this and how to fix it, and help others who will have same issue in the future (and obviously I am not the only one with such issue).
And as I pointed out 3rd party repair shops didnt proove quite usefull (perhaps their services are just flashing/rooting/unlocking, but I can do that by myself without paying someone else to do it)
We will see next week, what will guys from repair shop say, but I am not very optimistic about that.
If nothing else I can still give some money to that Russian guy with Z3X, who fixed IMEI in the first place, I guess he won`t mind
And sorry for the OT.
This problem still going on with exact answer..
I also have same issue on customer's phone.
I've tried backup cert and efs then repair efs (on octoplus).
after repairing efs, it changed IMEI to 3500...006 but still no sim card.
Seems like I can't fix even with Octoplus.
Hopefully someone finds way to fix this asap ;(
So apparently EFS and stock firmware has been ruled out. I already tried different modems using Odin.
Anyone have any other ideas? I mean other than the Sim Not Found thing, I can't even see the network selection option in settings, and using *#*#4636#*#* only gives an error that not registered on network.
well @ariza27 made similar fix for S3...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/help/solved-siii-network-problem-update-sn-t1918601
I guess there is nothing to do but wait for developers to create something for S6.
If I am understanding that problem correctly, the SIM/Network problem in the S3 came from the SN or IMEI changing due to upgrade or flashing.
This phone has the same SN/IMEI inside and outside. And its not just refusing to register the SIM, the network options have disappeared as well. I had hoped flashing stock would help, but no cigar.
One thing though, would completely erasing the data partition, and wiping the entire firmware, and then installing stock or even another ROM help? Because even when flashing through odin, it preserved the data for some reason.
Can someone send me their EFS backup for G920F on v.5.1.1 Stock with baseband/modem G920FXXU3QOKN?
I don;t know if those things affect EFS or not, just want to be on the safe side. I want to try comparing the backup from my phone and one other and then try and restore using the 2nd one.
As far as the IMEI and SN changing goes, I am looking into how to prevent that in the first place on in the even that it happens to restore it.
Any help is appreciated.
Bump! Anyone?
Your imei number has been blocked/blacklisted because of a reason like lost or stolen phone, reported by previous owner, the only way to fix it is to replace the motherboard of the same model from a supplier on aliexpress website, there price is about $350.00 Australian dollars thats including EMS express postage, you get it around 4 or 5 working days, dont waste your money or time on anything else it won't work, I had same problem, now after new motherboard my galaxy s6 edge is working fine, expensive though.
Any luck with this issue?

The phone was purchased new. And Already spoken with both Samsung and Vodaphone regarding this and they say the IMEI and the phone are clear. The phone is in another country from that of purchase, but since there is no country lock or phone lock, this is not the problem.
And no such luck yet.
