Hey guys!
I recently upgraded from the HTC Thunderbolt to the Samsung Galaxy S3 - I rooted, unlocked the bootloader, and installed Jelly 'Beans' Build 4. Everything has been running great so far, but I have noticed something very odd and I cannot seem to get rid of it. There is this white horizontal line above my notification bar - I am not sure if it's supposed to be there, but I am trying to make it go away since I have a black background on my phone and it just bothers me. When I connect the phone to my computer, the white horizontal line turns green. I tried to take a screenshot to show you guys, but the screenshot doesn't include it. When I go to the pull down menu, it goes away.
I am using Nova Prime Launcher, if that matters. Does anyone know how to get rid of this, or maybe change it to black so at least it looks hidden? Thanks, any help is appreciated!
(And random question that I don't feel like making a new thread for - to install the RPM and Modem, is there a specific order I need to do it? Or just send those files to the root of my phone, and use CWM to install zip and just install them? Thanks!)
It's perfectly normal, that's the MIUI battery bar. Go to Settings/Custom Settings/Battery Bar Settings and uncheck it.
Just get in the habit of flashing radio and rpm in this order: radio first, rpm second.

OK, so tonight I decided to install the Atrix 2 Blaze mod. It installed without any issues.
After installing and verifying that everything worked, I then decided to use Titanium Backup to batch restore my apps. This appeared to work, and at the end of the process it told me to reboot. So I did.
Once it booted back up, I was greeted with the lock screen, as you'd expect -- but when I unlocked the phone, all I saw was a black screen and the notification bar on top. No wallpaper, no icons, no widgets, nothing. I could open the task drawer, I could make the soft keyboard appear, I could bring up the "open apps" window... but I can't actually do anything because the screen is freaking black.
But because the notification bar works, I can tell there are things going on. I see my phone checking for email. I see my phone battery decreasing. I see notifications when my google+ or twitter apps detect people are replying to threads I've been on. In other words, the phone appears to be working in every way except that there's nothing on the screen for me to interact with.
Has anyone seen this before? Is there a way to fix it? I hope?
Your best bet is probably just to flash the 2.3.5 Stock FXZ and start from scratch.

try re-flashing ?
looks like you loose your home launcher ..
I had the EXACT same problem, everything below the notifications bar was blacked out, i could bring up recent apps, but i couldn't even bring up the emergency dial pad at the unlock screen. Only difference is mine happened when i froze Go Launcher using Titanium Backup. I could tell it was still trying to run Go Launcher coz i could auto-rotate the screen.Sadly, the only option i had was to reset the phone and loose everything. I couldnt even backup my files coz i set USB mode to charge only so it never popped up on PC.
I reckon you restored an app that has a missing component/data and so it crashes at startup, maybe a home launcher, locker etc. Try making a backup then resetting your phone
Same problem here Ill try the fxy method,
any of you had solve the problem?
My phone is rooted and I have Jelly 'beans' ROM installed. Everything was going well (been running for a week) until I installed ActiveNotifications (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.greatbytes.activenotifications). I'm not stuck on my lock screen and the touch screen does not respond to unlock it. There is also a hand icon in the status bar that I've never seen before. I can't (as far as I know) use adb to uninstall because the phone is not in USB debugging.
Any thoughts short of wiping and re-installing the ROM?
TIA

Yeah, neat app huh? I did the same thing myself. I think to use it you have to have a PIN unlock. Anyway, if you can pull down your notification shade, go into settings and uninstall it. Also if you have no security set for your lock screen, try to call your phone or send a text, something that will immediately get you into the main UI, then uninstall it.
Power it off the press at the same time power>home>vol up and boot into recovery and reflash the rom..

Maybe consider restoring from your most recent nandroid? I know that it's losing some progress, but you might be able to save yourself some time. Short of that, I think you'll need to re-flash your ROM, unfortunately.
I've been in situations like this one before, and that's the big reason why I've made it my standard operating procedure to maintain two backups: one for pre-flash and on stable post-flash for every new ROM. It's been helpful so far (in the extremely limited experience I have with custom software on my phone).
I'm going to wait just a bit to see if anyone else has some great suggestion, but I think I'll have to re-flash (after I finally got my home screen the way I want it). I do have PIN lock on. Can't pull the notifications down. With the ROM I'm using the AOSP lockscreen and I when you touch the circle to unlock none of the icons show.
Not a happy camper

Try to hit the menu button while you're on the lockscreen, sometimes that'll bypass the lock screen.

After wiping and re-installing the ROM (several times) I think I may have found the culprit. My phone suddenly thinks that my 32 GB external SD card is bad and is stuck in a fsck. If I put the card out everything is happy. Time to backup the sdcard and reformat.
Using the stock launcher, this problem/feature just started popping up recently. I couldn't find any discussion on if this was part of the newer Google Search / GEL updates.
On the homescreen indicator that separates the dock, I now have a plus sign on the far right, which makes the regular indicating dots off center. Swiping left is Google Now like always, but now swiping right after the rightmost homescreen leads to a blank homescreen (screenshots attached). It used to just be that trying to swipe right on the rightmost homescreen would do nothing. How do I go back to this original function?
I'm using Cataclysm Rom [Nov 15] and franco.Kernel r14. I've searched through those threads for more information about this blank homescreen, but no luck. I've also dug through the Cataclysm Settings to see if I've ticked any options, but I can't find anything. I don't have the franco.Kernel app so I don't know if this might be a kernel setting, but again, I couldn't find anything in the franco.Kernel thread.
Thanks for any help!
Move an icon over there and move it back. That fixed it when mine did it.

Thanks, that temporarily got rid of it, but after a reboot, the plus sign and the blank homescreen came back.
Maybe it's just part of GEL now? Haven't found any discussions about it though :/
I too have this, it drives me absolutely nuts! It shows up after reboots and random times! No fix besides putting app there and deleting
It has happened to me twice so far. Can't figure out what it is.

Only had the problem once and this solved it.
Having the same issue, appears randomly and I have to either restart the phone or use the app move/unmove trick to get rid of it.
I haven't found a correlation to any thing in particular or any app but I'd like to know what's causing this..
I have experienced this as well. I just reboot the phone and it goes away. Pretty minor bug but yea i imagine it will get fixed in the next update.
Hello! I'm running KK 4.4, rooted and unlocked. I recently had installed a couple of mods, most notably this mod to give me a battery percentage number. Well I installed the back-to-stock files provided by those developers in anticipation of installing Xposed. But inbetween, I noticed that my notification drawer didn't have a complete gray bar across the top (see screenshot, and picture of what it should look like).
After installing Xposed and GravityBox for KK, I tried using the notification drawer color fill option to see if that would correct or override it, but that completely filled the drawer, hiding everything in it. I could still click buttons, but could not see them. So I reversed that, but still have the gap in the bar. Edit: Seems I had to choose "underlay" as an option for the color fill, so it's unrelated/not an issue as far as that goes.
It seems like a minor thing, but given how the color fill reacted in addition to now having this gap, I'm worried that there may be other issues I could run into. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions on how I could fix this, hopefully without reinstalling the OS?
Edit: Attached another screenshot better illustrating what's happening.
I'm having the same issues running franco kernel. Any help would be appreciated. Dirty flash does nothing for me.
EDIT: I was able to solve this by flashing this battery percent mod, you might want to give it a try:

Thanks, but I just came back to say that I completely wiped the phone and put a stock ROM back on.
Hi All, I'd had my Xoom since release but a while ago it fell by the wayside, I recently picked it up again an spent this evening fiddling with it.
I manage to install Omni 4.4.4 and have the ElementalX 2.1 kernel so I can overclock it.
All seems fine except for a few minor things that are bugging me. On the home screen there is a white bar at the top, if I press the on the right of this bar it says 'App isn't installed' If I click the left side of it it brings up a google search bar. Any idea why it says App isn't installed on the right?
As well as that on the search bar I used to be able to press the microphone and speak what I wanted to search. This no long happens it doesn't do anything when I click the microphone.
Is there a way to delete the apps it won;t let you delete in the normal way. I'm a bit OCD about icon and I have Icons for 'Phone' and 'Messages' That is obviously not required on my tablet and weren't there with the OEM software.
Any other hints of tips for a noob?

The "app not installed" go to the play store and download "Google search"
Via normal app settings you can not uninstall system apps. So the normal way wouldn't work for phone and messages. However that Rom comes pre rooted so using a root enabled file explorer you can navigate to /system/app or /system/priv-app (depending on the application) and simple delete the app then reboot the tablet for the changes to take effect.
Or If you'd like you can use an app called titanium restore which has the ability to remove/uninstall ANY application
