[Q] Fastboot Fix - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everybody,
1. My current problem is, that I cannot get into fastboot mode anymore.
2. I have installed ROM 4.2 on my Nexus S (9023) and still a running system.
3. ROM Manager does not allow "Reboot into Recovery"
4. Nexus S harddisk is recognized with Windows 8 (USB mode works)
4. "Vol Down plus Power down (with and without Home Button) does not work
Does anybody know an easy way to activate fastboot plus recovery again?
Best, Rolf

Hold down volume up and power at the same time until fastboot pops up

Yeah, vol up + power is the combo for bootloader mode on NS.

Thanks. Very simple. Tried it before. No reaction. Turned it now to factory reset and now it works with your encouragement. Sometimes these phones have there individual life...
Best, Rolf

You need to pull the battery, put it back, and try one of the button combinations to get it into download mode on next boot. Your easiest route is either both volume buttons, and plug in USB without pressing power (which works on the Captivate), or hold just volume down and plug in USB (which is the right combination for an i9000). With one of these the phone should automatically power into the download mode. Get Odin one click ready to flash stock before you put the phone into download mode and hit start when it recognizes the device. If that won't work. try the other key combinations keeping in mind that they change when you flash an i9000 image, so you should try all Captivate combinations, and all i9000 combinations. Since the Captivate lacks a physical home button, anything that involves that will not work, which is the reason why you are stuck in recovery. The i9000 recovery is expecting you to press the home button to select (unlike the power on the stock Captivate).
also, ADB commands should work while the phone is in recovery mode
Same Problem
The Key combination Vol +, Vol - and the power button power cycles the phone whether or not the phone is in recovery mode or off. I am having the same problem, and there are no key combinations that worked for me. For now, I am permanently stuck in recovery mode. I could use some help here, as I have tried everything.
Oh, for the I9000 ROM installed on the captivate, adb commands do not work. While the phone is in recovery mode, you cannot connect to the PC.
I have found though, that by booting into the recovery menu, plugging in your USB cord and then taking out/putting in the battery will put into an unknown upload mode which does connect it to the computer, but not in a way that allows Odin or adb to run. There might be a way to flash/work with the phone, but I don't know how. Any help would be appreciate, as it is not in disk mode.

1. Take out battery and put it back in
2a Hold Vol Up+Vol Down (Do not press power)
or
2b Hold Vol Down (Do not press power)
3. Plug in USB cable connected to computer (Still do not press power)
If the phone behaves like a Captivate, after using 2a and 3, you should be in download mode. If the phone behaves like an i9000, after 2b and 3, you should be in Download mode.
Response & Update
Have tried both of these options. Either way you do it, the phone still goes back into recovery mode. There was talk about using a custom kernel that would allow you to use the power button as the select button. Is there any way to use adb in recovery mode, so you can install the modified kernel, or reboot to download mode? If not, I started a thread on this question that can be found here as well:

I am sure they can.
The 2e and 3e Download and Recovery modes were disabled by Samsung in later models of the SGS. It is not possible to get there using a combination of buttons etc.,
How to install the Download/Recovery Mode fix (3 Button Disabled SPL fix) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=785201
There may be another method using an AnyWay JIG cable: which is a MicroB USB to Standard USB connector where I think one crosses pin 3 and 4 with a 301kOhm resister 1% tolerance, 1/4Watt. It would be best to search this forum for precise instructions.
Win for a dumb f%^k
well this isnt a good answer but i have a phone that went as discribed, no respose to three button, and unable to flash or get off the system reset screen on start up work on it for about 6 hour then left it when i came back i turned it on plug in the usb and CMD'ed adb reboot download and what did you know this time it worked? reset from that screen and it return to normal sooo.... um good luck and there is a way out just not shore what exactly it is
good for some
okey after fidling around i found my phone responded to adb ie download adb open a cmd line and typing adb reboot download. from there i just cycled the power hold down the power button a while and it rebooted to normal working order. though i still cant get 3 button even with flashing the fix so no hacking for me hope this helps
I'm using the Samsung Fascinate, i500 and i got stuck on the same screen too!!! i just double tapped the home button and rebooted the phone
I was able to get out of a 2e loop by running adb reboot download with odin open, then reflashed from there. Went through the same process twice since cognition 2.3b8 does not want to install on my phone. had no problem with b7 install.
Instructions were not that great. But Thanks -I figured it out and am back up.
Same problem here, cant make my phone go to download mode, ok or select key "power button" not working.
already tried the 2 methods before and they not working, (combination of keys)
Vibrant stuck in android system recovery 2e
I know this is not exact help but i just accidentally found myself into download mode after more key combo fiddling. I believe the last combo that got me in was either holding UP + POWER or just UP at the precise moment the screen goes black to reboot. This is after quite a few boot cycles so trial and error seemed to pull it off.
I'd test it again to be more sure but i don't want to risk being stuck again at this point. But I figured i'd speak up now, because i don't plan to have 2e there ever again.

[Q] P6800 - CANNOT: factory reset, update firmware, enter download mode

Dear all,
[Update 1/1/2013]
- I've just found that my tab cannot boot after restart to download mode, recovery mode. Everywhen I try to do that, it will do nothing (display nothing, cannot charge, cannot hard shutdown....). Even I try to boot download mode by adb or Power + vol down, the result is nothing. However, when I shutdown and then press and hold Power button 3 section, it will boot to android normally.
My P6800 have problem I haven't met before:
IT CAN:
- run normally. But, when turn on device, I have to try press the power button sometime and wait about 2 to 3 mins (normally, it has to on right after press power)
- In off state, it could be charge normally when I plugin the cable (I see the battery progress bar)
IT CANNOT:
- Factory reset, update firmware: when I try to factory reset or update firmware (by OTA),after It turn off, it never turn on (don't display anything). Until I try to hard turn off (hold power). Then, no thing change.
- Enter download mode: Turn off device, and try to hold "Power+volume up" or "Power+volume down". But screen still dark.
I think there is some problem with the download or recovery mode. But I dont know to fix it.
I've got a Galaxy Tab 7.7 (WIFI/3G) P6800 from my brother. And he talk that He had flashing wrong fimrware (flash firmware of other model) 1 time.
This device hasnt root yet.
I need your help to fix this issue and able to flash stock or custom rom.
Thank you.
try to enter those mode via adb... so you need to have adb on your pc. so download this files and extract it to C:\adb
http://www.mediafire.com/?u84ejv5u5k49opx
with your device usb debugging mode is on. connect it to pc.
enter command prompt in windows (start menu ---> run --> type cmd and enter)
on command prompt you need to type.
cd c:\adb
adb reboot download (if want to go to download mode)
adb reboot recovery (if want to enter recovery mode)
btw... did the current device have root?
This device hasnt root yet. I'll try your suggest and let you know result.
Thanks.

[SOLVED] Lenovo A536 - how to reboot to recovery mode

Hello, I have a big problem with rebooting to recovery mode. I can reboot to recovery only with application. If I turn my phone off and then hold volume up + power, then I get black screen with only one yellow Chinese text on the very top left side and then after 1 minute it's get into Chinese recovery.. My question is: how to get into custom recovery without using applications like for example "Quick boot".
I need it, because I have to install ROM again, because I did a big mistake, when I deleted one file from the "system" folder. Now my phone boot without problem, but after that everything is lagging and all applications stop working, then it automatically reboot phone..
I can't flash firmware with SP Flash Tool, because of Windows drivers. My laptop does not recognize the phone. It says: "Unknown USB device".. That's why I need to get into custom recovery for installing ROM.
Thank you in advance for help.
This helped:
With the phone powered off
Hold Volume Up + Volume Down + Power button
When phone vibrates release power button only.
As the No Comman Screen release all buttons.
Press and hold the power button and tap the Volume Up button.
Release the buttons. You must get into recovery mode.

Nokia G10 TA-1334 Black Screen

Hey Guys,
I need help with Nokia G10 TA-1334. After the loading screen the display becomes black. Only thing I can do is holding the power key and the menu appears with lock, switch off and restart. Tried to reach the recovery mode but no key combination would bring it. The only menu I can reach is the fastboot menu, but the debugging mode is not switched on so the adb commands are not available. Can you please tell me a working key combination for the recovery mode. I also tried flashing it with sp flash but again it is not working. I tried again different key combinations. The phone is connecting to the pc normally but without the screen I can't do anything.
So Far I Tried these:
With plugged in cable:
Holding Power + Volume up is only restarting the phone
Holding Power + Volume down - fastboot ( but there is not any additional menu)
Holding Power + Volume down and when android logo comes holding only power and fast press volume up
Holding Power + Volume up and down = nothing
Hi Ivan, my G10 has had exactly the same problem as yours since Friday. Have tried the same things as you and also had no success. I tried draining the battery to flat but that didn't work either. Have you had any luck finding a solution? Thanks, Tony
For now nothing, the draining wont work probably because I disassembled the phone and disconnected the battery. After that no change has occured. I hope that somebody will provide a working key combination for the recovery mode.
hello, nokia g10 and the same problem, did you find a solution?
Hi guys.
Did you find a solution to this problem?
Same Problem, we can reboot to Android Bot with NO COMMAND prompt, but hard to enter recovery menu with the combined power key & Vol+ key.
Is there someone know the new version how to enter recovery menu? Tks.

Recovery - broken screen.

I recently dropped my phone in water. The screen is now black (internally, the screen connector is cooked).
Good news :
The phone boot
The phone connect to my wireless network
The usb port is working (vibrator too, ... speaker not).
Bad news :
The display is broken
Digitizer is not working
USB debugging is not enabled
I only have a partial backup (pictures).
I'm running Android 11, stock (not rooted) and OTG is not enabled by default.
I have to recover some files (by example , my signal backup file).
Ways to recover
Recovery trough android is not possible since OTG is not enabled.
Recovery trough application is not possible (need to install/configure an application)
Maybe I could enter (blindly) the boot recovery mode, enable USB debug & disable screen lock trough ADB ???
--> Is it possible ?
--> Can anybody post the exact key combination to enter the recovery mode ?
--> Can you confirm that I can enable usb debug trough the recovery mode ?
Thanks !!!
With phone off hold vol down + power, after vibration keep holding vol down for 20 sec.
With phone plugged in:
adb shell svc usb setFunctions mtp
Not sure if it'll work with stock recovery.
Thanks for your answer. But as far I know, once button down + power is pressed (20s) , ... the phone enter a "menu", ... in this menu, there is a combination to reset the phone OR enter recovery OR enter fasboot ? (right ?)
Thanks.
