[Q] Phone to replace my NS i9023 - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I believe the title says it all. I was pretty sure my next phone will be Google Experience. I really love the community and opportunities with this. I had Sony Xperia for about a month and it was terrible with support. But Nexus 4, apart from being much more expensive when bought from a shop and not from Google (which doesnt sell to Czech Republic), has one thing that I really hate - a battery that cant be easily replaced. Im used to carrying one spare (or more when on a longer trip) on me and I can easily switch them even when staning on a crowded bus. I couldnt do that with N4.
So, do you find this to be such a serious issue I consider it to be? And what other phones would you recommend, please?

Galaxy Nexus. Or hacked Galaxy S3 as a second choice. Maybe an HTC One X with CM10 could be a really sexy phone too.

Galaxy Nexus would be the best, no doubts. Don't go for N4, it doesn't seems to go good so far. A few bugs have already been discovered.

Isnt it a bit ... big ... ?

If u wanna stay nexus, go galaxy nexus, the prices should even be lower due to the n4 being out
Sent from my awesome Nexus S

The Nexus Series has its own reputation and of them all, its Development support. While the Nexus 4 is claimed to be bugged with buzzing sound and no Out-of-the-box OTG, it couldn't be considered better than the Galaxy Nexus. The same being the reason for me to buy Galaxy Nexus too, in a month or two.
I too find Note series a bit big for a smartphone to carry in our pockets. No offense to anyone's opinions

Sadly, no because the new flagship doesn't even intend to stand near the Galaxy Nexus. But the price is fine enough for such an amazing device. :highfive:

I think Note 2 is the best choice!

I would go for the Galaxy Nexus. :good:

How much cheaper is the galaxy nexus in your country?

Galaxy Nexus is €295, Nexus 4 is €458, its more than €150 difference. And the inability to change battery with N4 is bad too. Looks to me that I will go for Galaxy Nexus.
BTW should we even talk together? Your country keeps our citizens arrested for espionage!

Keep in mind that the galaxy nexus has poor battery life.
We hold your devs hostages! Pay the ransom so we can solve our financial problems!

True jb is cool and all, but if your leaning towards samsung why not get the latest and greatest. You already had the latest and greatest HTC, then downgraded....

i feel the same way. also have my HOX up for sale. will be getting a S3. never buying a ATT branded HTC phone again
I've got the S3, GNex, and HOX and I'm also thinking about selling the HOX. Between the three, I find myself using the S3 and GNex the most. I love the HOX, but if I sell it now I can put the money aside towards the next Nexus phone when it's introduced. Decisions, decisions.
Nice OP! Don't worry its a great phone as long as your getting the GSM version...I have both the hox and the nexus, I use them both and love them both.

oh it def is. but this whole lock down thing is pissing me off. i already had the INT hox and was plauged with defects. then to the S4 fantastic but this whole lock down. i am sure i'll be kicking myself if and when S-off comes avail. but i miss the S-line of samsung products. now only iff the HOX screen was in S3 damn would be one perfect ass sex phone.
by NOV prices should drop drastically . but me i hate waiting :good:
if the galaxy nexus had better hardware it might actually be worth it for me..
but untill then i wouldnt want to downgrade just for vanilla android (as much as i'd love it0
definitely thinking about getting a nexus 7 / 10 though!

And more people would rather have inferior hardware. Phone is already beastly as it is. Don't know how much more you could possibly want out of a phone performance wise.
An unlocked bootloader and root? Impossible right now on the new firmware. The HOX is a beastly device and Joe public has a lot to be happy about. However its not an ENTHUSIASTS device. AT&T made sure of that.

[Q] Would you do this trade?

Hello everyone I thought about posting this in the Nexus section but decided here would be better. I just recently traded my Rezound + $60 for a Galaxy S3 which I feel was a really good deal. The phone came with everything and a really nice case and a ghost armor screen protector.
Today I was messing around on craigslist, and seen a guy offering a great condition Galaxy Nexus(Verizon) and Galaxy Tab 7" 1st gen(Verizon) both with cases and chargers.
My question is would you do the trade with your S3 if you had the opportunity.
Thank you guys for your help in advanced!!
No, not at all. Maybe in a year, but not while his phone is basically unbeatable.

I wouldn't. The tab is too old, and the Nexus really has poor battery compared to the S3.

We have a first generation Galaxy Tab and it's nice, but more or less stuck on Gingerbread. Great for parties or long trips that can keep the kids and/or their friends occupied.
Adding that up with a Galaxy Nexus does not give you a S3, IMHO. Your daily phone would essentially become a Nexus vs the S3 and I've not read of anyone who considers them in the same ballpark in that regard (despite the Nexus' positives).

Thank you guys very much. I think I will stay where I am and grab a nexus 7 for my tablet needs.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
I also have a nexus on my second line and it's a fantastic device, but it totally outclassed in every way by the GS3. I would keep the GS3 and play around with JB on it. I've been using JB on it the past week and rather like it even despite the occasional hiccup.
I have yet to install JB on the Nexus but seeing as it is not my phone, I don't think rooting it is a good idea.

You must go to some pretty lame parties if you need to bring a tab to entertain you...
Lol yeah I actually had a nexus before I got my Rezound and liked it but it had issues with data while in my house. The Rezound and now my S3 do not. Loved the nexus but with getting great battery life with a huge screen is hard to beat lol

Honestly I would go with the nexus. I just got my first nexus and I don't think I would ever go back to a proprietary phone now and I have only had it two days lol. But I used my upgrade on an s2 it was a good phone and I liked it. Great development great devs.

but it doesnt fit your pocket does it? I used to travel alot as student and I only want good camera and some big development nothing more.. So a phone like HTC one SV would be my best choice [mid-range]
Mine fits in my pockets just fine. But mine is the galaxy nexus not the nexus 4. It's just slightly wider than the t989.

Personally, I just got the HTC One S and runs EXTREMELY fast and smooth with Jellybam. It can be annoying to flash ROMs with fastboot, though.

I just went to an electronics store today, and it was displaying the galaxy note 2. It looks amazing. I played with it a little bit. It is really zippy; everything turns on instantly when u click on it. It is a little big, but very light and slim. You could actually fit in a regular pocket. I am still debating of whether to get the s3 or the note2. Although the note2 would fit perfectly for my work, because I converse a lot on the computer through emails, charts and PDF documents.

But if u could contradict this maybe I will change mind
Oh, and I really want to buy Razr M but its not available and its expensive
In the Netherlands it's 300 euros?
And It's mid-end, great perfomances for that budget, the only downside is the small community (yet).

€200 on mp man... [300 is really not worth, I think more €150] And It doesnt even have front cam nor HD I prefer a higher spec phone like Razr M, but nobody has it:crying: Thats why Galaxy s2 is my choice:good:

should I change my s3 for a Nexus 4?

If I don't mind having LTE or not and a non-removable battery. Should I sell my S3 and buy a Nexus 4? My only concern is Speed and can't take pictures at night .

It is more of a price diffrence. When you buy a Nexus 4 (unlocked I might add) you are getting more for less.
I think both phones are awesome.
What I dont like about the S3:
AEOLED is too young. It burns out, and the pixels actually die out (happened to my S2).
Too expensive.
Way too big.
What I dont like about the Nexus 4:
No SD expansion (but everything is becoming cloud based anyways, which means CW Recovery must be a pain).
Poly-whatever battery (can't remember the name). Just like AEOLED, the technology is still young. The battery is dangerous, and also loses charge capacity rather quickly.
I prefer the N4 over the S3. With a little salt as well.
These are my observations. Please click thanks if you found this useful at all.
I switched from a s3 to a nexus 4 and i love it!. I will probably only buy nexus devices from now on! I love the clean look of having no physical/capacitive buttons on the front! :victory:

Hah from now on pretty much any phone I own will end up on PA. Anyway, to bring the thread back on topic I don't think it's worth it if you have to pay anything, but if it's free then I personally would do it.
Save your money for the S4. That is my plan, though i have been stuck on a Bionic for almost 2 years...
save our money for S4
Nexus 4 is a good choice
If you aren't losing money, then the Nexus 4 would be a good alternative. I, personally, would rather have a Nexus 4, but Verizon botched having the Galaxy Nexus, so that won't be happening.

I dont know how about your country, but in Ukraine it's very expencive, so better save your money if S3 suits you

I'm upgrading next month

Its been 2 years since I had my nexus. It was a great device and didnt really feel dated to me until this year. I already have my iPhone 5, so I guessim going to use this upgrade for a galaxy note 2. But my question is, what do you think would be the best successor to this device? I'm not sure if I'll even hack at this point anymore because my house now has WiFi and using my cell as a hotspot was main point.

Got nexus4, note 2 , galaxy tab 2 7.0, 10.0 and note 10.1, tf300t , nexus 7 and GS 2.
I say go with note 2, small enough to fit into or pocket, not bulky to play games on it, closer to handheld console than large tabs, not too small. I love the spen.
Bottom line. If I could take only one device. Note 2 would let do all that I would wanna do in both phones and tablets.
