connecting external hard drive (transcend 25M3) to android phone ( micromax a116) ( )
Good news for everyone who want use external hard drive with android phone. I connected my Micromax A116 with transcend store jet 25M3 1TB external hard drive without rooting of phone. You have to possession of OTG cable only. Transcend hard drive one benefit that its having connecting cable with two USB male point . One for specifically power supply and other for data transfer. I used my Micromax phone charger having out put - DC 5V 1A with USB connected. first I have given power supply by connecting USB end of hard drive to the Micromax phone charger then I connected data transfer USB of hard drive to OTG cable then its micro USB end to my Micromax a 116. And its successfully access all the file and folder in hard drive. Plz Keep in mind that hard drive formatted in FAT32. Your phone should be supporting USB storage devices. And biggest thing is you don't require any rooting or additional apps for connecting. I think it will be very helpful for Micromax A 116 users . I can easily play HD video from my hard drive.

i have a noir A10 and i have connected an 80 gb hard drive via otg cable and an app installed on my phone i.e Stickmount.

So what am I doing wrong???
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 and I wish to connect it to a USB hard drive. The one I'm using at the moment is an old 40gb drive but, if I can get bit to work, I intend to get a bigger one.
Sooo...
I've got a USB OTG lead.
I've connected the drive using a 'Y' lead to ensure that there is enough power for the hard drive.
I'm using ES3 File explorer.
I've connected USB sticks and cards also used USB hubs and Card readers with perfect results.
ES3 recognises the drive and asks for permission to access it but when I give permission it says "Sorry the operation failed". Trying again gives a different message "Failed to open the file".
I've tried reformatting the drive as NTFS, exFAT and even FAT32 but it makes no difference.
The drive works perfectly when connected to a number of other devices.
Any ideas?

[Q] usb hdd access with tab2 10.1

hi guys,
does anyone knows how to access a usb external hdd with galaxy tab2 10.1?
ı've bought OTG cable. I tired several things with OTG and Y-usb cable. but i couldnt manage to do it.
the error on tablet is "high power usb device connected"
does anyone connected a usb external hdd to galaxy tab2? what is the method? do i have to root?
thanks in advance.
I use an external hard drive to move files to my AT&T Tab 2. It is not rooted. The error you are getting is most likely the tab cannot power the external hard drive. If your hard drive does not have a separate power connection try connecting it through a powered hub. My drive has the y cable. One is for power and the other is for data connection. It works just fine. At home or work I connect the power to my pc or Tab charger and in my car I have powered USB.
Also the OTG does not support NTFS so you will have to use a 32GB or under drive or find some way to format it Fat32

Thank you for the answer.
i understand that OTG + Ycable + tab charger is the solution for me.
if i use fat32 500gb usb external hdd, is it ok?
I would assume yes since my drive is a HP 500GB pocket media drive.

[Q] Connecting an external hard drive via the usb port

Hi guys. Is there an app out there that makes it possible to connect an external USB flash drive or 2.5" drive to the shield tab via its USB port?
I'm pretty sure you just do, and you'll be good. Strangely I've never had any problems using an OTG USB drive with the Shield. That's what you'd be looking for, by the way... Am OTG cable.
One quick thing to note is, be prepared to need to power the hard drive. The tablet may not have enough juice to power a full hard drive. So if you plug it in and it isn't recognized, try a powered USB hub.
Secondly, make sure you have ES file explorer.
I use a WD ultra passport portable 1tb drive and a otg cable.
I just plug in, open ES file explorer an get what I need an unmount an disconnect.
You'll lose a few percent of battery potential as expected.

Thanks guys. I'm honestly shocked this actually works. I tried it with my WD passport laptop drive and low and behold it works flawlessly. With the research I did in the past with my HTC EVDO 3D, and reading all the comments on various messageboards, I really thought connecting USB HDDs to any Android device would not work. Does it work in this instance mainly because the device is a Shield Tablet? Or is it only because I'm rooted, and as a result any rooted Android device will allow USB HDDs to be used?
OTG and enough power
It just works if your (android) device has an On the Go (OTG) USB connector AND if it gives enough power to your (hard) drive. If there isn't enough power, you need a Y OTG cable and external power source. Many smartphones do not provide the 500mA at 5V they should provide, but tablets usually give enough from my experience.

Flash Support for Non-Supported USB OTG Devices

Noobie question here. Is there any way to transfer files to and from directly to flash if the phone you have DOES NOT have USB OTG support? No PC in the mix, just a flash, cable adaptor and phone itself. If so, is it possible to do it without rooting? I've tried the PNY Duo-Link as well, without success (r/w from the laptop, phone does nothing). See I prefer to have the flash as my main datastore, independent of internet transfer and local to the PC, laptop, phone, etc.
Recently purchased a Verizon LG Transpyre, Model Number: VS810PP. The closest solution I've found is WiFi File transfer. However, I want to take the PC out of the equation (don't run M$) for the driver:
http://androidxda.com/download-lg-usb-drivers
Any help would be appreciated, maybe I should have gone the Moto E?
Wifi File Transfer does require not only Mobile Hotspot, but Mobile data too ;( You get an ugly Verizon subscription message with Mobile data even though you want to tranfer from YOUR PC to YOUR flash. Still a lot of hassle to go through though all you want is a non USB OTG phone to flash.
I can use bidirectional transfers via a miniUSB to USB cable on the Transpyre, but the flash isnt there. Had a talk with Sandisk technical support about non USB OTG solutions they may have for file transfers. Basically with OTG (MTP) only Microsoft supported scenarios work to a PC, there are no flash options and to to try Amazon. Bottom-line is, according to them, is if you have a non USB OTG phone, your only option is a SD option.
I just like everything I have on one media i.e. not multiple, SD, CD, flash etc. On top of that I want a bootable media. What would fit the bill would be a male SDmini cable into the phones slot to a female USB adapter for the flash drive, I dont think thats possible. So, some sort of SD adapter for the non USB OTG device is all I can come up with. What do others use for their main bootable datastore media for the phone, PC, Stereo, etc. i.e. the flash drive, SD, SD to USB adapter, DVD, etc.? Or should I just throw the phone and get a USB OTG one
Now the question is bootable SDCard vs USB for all around bootable media for storage to any device. This is what I did, almost there...
Bought a neat little kit from Walmart, Mobile Junkie's 3-in-1 mobile Kit. Basically, I took it's miniSD stuck it in my phone. I can use a miniUSB toUSB cable to the PC and pull the miniSD when I want and slide it into the kit's USB for the PC or booting. Getting close to all the functionality I want other than it's a pain to open up the phone and the bootable USB image I have did not work on the miniSD. The kit also has a regular SD, i.e. miniSD > USB > SD. Not sure if this type of USB/miniSD connection is bootable. But I think all I need to do is create a bootable to the miniSD from the PC.
Any experiences out there between bootable USB's vs SD's?
Conclusion - I'll never buy a phone again without USB OTG support.

USB otg flash drive question regarding type of flash drive and otg cable

I know they make the SanDisk dual end android otg flash drive that supposed work without proprietary software ,but I also know that particular one is junk.
I got a sandisk extreme pro and ordered the otg cable separate Will this work transferring files once plugged in or does this otg..a tuff only work wirh a certain dedicated type of flash drive and or app that's needed on top of the flash drive .
My theory once I get it was plug in the otg cable that's connected to the sandisk drive and attach the micro usb end to s6 I should see the drive inside a file manager app .But some YouTube videos show the usb otg dual drive not coming up within the phones settings or storage options .
Has anyone used a regular flash drive with otg cable to transfer and what's the method ?
Sent from my SM-T700 using XDA Free mobile app

Etc..
Thanks guys
Yeah,
I had a USB Type-C Male to USB 3.0 Type-A female adapter. Plugged in a USB 3.0 Toshiba Hard Drive and it worked. Notification popped up and I was able to use it in the built in file manager.
Works very well and is very fast as well.
That's good, official support of otg

It's called Material VUi , it's available on the Honor 8's XDA forums under themes.

Honor 8 supports USB OTG.

Here are some steps you can take to transfer files from your phone to an external device or microSD.
Connect a USB OTG cable to your phone to access data on USB flash drives, card readers and other storage devices.
- Connect your phone to a USB flash drive with a USB OTG cable.
- Touch [click to enlarge] > Local > USB drive to browse data on the flash drive. You can select and copy data to a destination folder. For more information, see Copying, moving, or deleting files.
- When you have finished browsing, touch Settings > Advanced settings > Memory & storage > USB drive > Eject.
Disconnect the USB OTG cable from your phone and the USB flash drive. (NS)
Stock ROM (not rooted): Huawei built-in Files works very well for OTG USB flash drives. However, if you have X-Plore File Manager installed, do NOT accept the message as shown (see he attached), otherwise USB drive will disappear and neither the Huawei's Files nor X-Plore would be able to access the USB drive. If you ignore that message or "Cancel" it, X-Plore would be able to read USB drive but not write to it.
The same here
I wonder if there is any relation between emui5 "android" and the service activation
