So I've scoured over the forums trying to find a fix for this other than flashing back to stock...I have the Viper One S v1.2 rom and it freezes every boot to the red htc disclaimer. I remedy this by fastbooting the boot.img again and it works fine.. but it's a pain to have to do this every time i turn off my phone..does the rom just not "like" my phone or did I mess up the install somehow? I've seen people being frozen at this screen too, I just dont want to revert back to stock..Would another rom work? Or is there a fix to this? Sorry for wall of text.

fastboot boot boot.img...Ooopps?
Edit: So I'm not entirely sure I did the fastboot flash boot boot.img if that's what you're getting at.
RE:Edit: So I tried the Power off option, this worked for me twice, I'm guessing the restart option of this rom is buggy? The AOSP mod and infinite screen scrolling caused HTC splash screen freeze also... I'd switch rom's but this one runs fairly smooth as long as I dont really tweak it much..I tried CM mod but I failed to install it for some reason.

Please help this newbie out!... I recently rooted my Inspire 4G with attn1's hack kit. That went smooth without issue and I have tried a variety of custom ROMs thanks to this great community, but I have noticed a random issue with booting into ClockworkMod Recovery since... I installed Rom Manager and ClockworkMod Recovery 3.0.0.6 and the problem is that sometimes I can boot into recovery and sometimes not. It only seems to work is the first time I reboot immediately after flashing ClockworkMod, then subsequent reboots the phone just boots normally. (I hold volumn down and press power.) I have also tried installing Amon's Recovery (supersonic 2.3) manually using Fastboot - it seems to install without error but when I try holding the down volume button and hitting power - phone just boots normally. So it seems I am stuck with a ClockworkMod install that does not really work with reliability.... I am lost now trying to figure out why this is happening.
Can someone that has seen similar issues provide some tips/suggestions?
TIA

I had the same problem... quit using version 3.0.0.6 and go back to the earliest version, 2.5.1.3 through All ClockworkMod Recoveries. Worked for me.

You don't have 'fast boot' enabled in settings/application? If so it will not really shut off completely and when you power it up with VOL- it will not work.
i'm also having issues getting cwm to work outside the black screen. i have tried sense/ no sense roms and none have been able to bring up cwm outside the blank screen. i am also running 3.0.0.6 or whatever it is but that has not helped my issue

[Q] Clockworkmod recovery not booting up
I have my phone rooted and ready to flash a custom ROM. I want to install android revolution 4g 4.0. I read that I need to ahve CWM version 3.0.0.6 to flash a 2.3 ROM. Anyways, when i select reboot into recovery in ROM Manager, my phone reboots and shows the HTC logo but then it fades to black screen and does nothing. If i press the power button, the phone reboots normally into the OS. Does anyone know how to fix this so i can install a custom ROM?
I have this exact same issue. Although i can load roms from choosing "Install from sd card" i cannot just boot into recovery and install it from there.
I just recently bought my inspire 4g a week ago.
Mine is 2 days old. Now i cant get it to boot up because it keeps trying to boot into CWM recovery but it cant. Its and endless loop.
Mine wont even load recovery. It reboots the phone but then just fades to a black screen. I cant get back into the OS

still stuck doing that too. can get the phone to reboot. but stuck at htc screen or black cwm screen. also checked sd card and is corrupted. i was thinking if i could just flash a new rom over to fix boot issue. but i need some screens to blindly walk through to flash. cwm is 3.0.0.5 if that matters. thanks. on a side note. i think i have a new cm7rc2 build on a formated sd card to try and minimize the guess work on what to click

Are you saying that your phone shows the white HTC screen then fades to black?
if so, no, it doesn't matter...just press the power button to reboot your phone.
i recently started another thread asking for help with my soft bricked stock htc one s.
i was basically playing a game, exited then rebooted and got stuck in a boot loop. tried to install various ruus but was unable to find the proper version/cid to install.
today i got the bright idea of unlocking the bootloader and installing recovery to avoid the issue of my apparent o/s corruption and just installing a custom rom.
unlocked the bootloader successfully, installed cwm successfully then try and boot into recovery, screen goes white with the htc warning about being for developers for 30seconds or so then it restarts into the boot loop at the htc quietly brilliant screen. though maybe there was a problem with the cwm so i tried twrp with the same problem.
does this mean im looking at a hardware fault or does anyone think it could still be software related? im kind of worried now as i probably just voided any chance of getting warranty from htc...
A recovery and unlocked bootloader will not help you get out. Now flash a custom ROM. Don't forget to flash the boot.img

Is there a way to flash a rom from Fastboot? I've tried fastboot flash system romname.zip and fastboot flash boot boot.img without any luck, appears I've made it worse as the bootloop loads to fastboot now...
I can't get adb to recognize the device, only fastboot commands work. It's weird though, I checked the log of the failed ruu installs and it seems to recognize the phone with adb during the install attempt. I've also tried mirroring the commands from the ruu log but I can't replicate the ability to access adb. I was able to get that black htc screen that pops up during the ruu install though, I dunno if that's a special mode for running adb commands or what it's for but I wasn't able to connect then either...
fastboot flash zip rom.zip
then
fastboot flash boot boot.img
i broke down and spent $20 on a official ruu for my phone. it installed successfully but the phone is still stuck looping the white htc screen.
hoping htc honors my warranty, i unlocked my bootloader trying to fix this problem but its starting to look hardware related... unless there is another partition of software on the phone that could have become corrupted...

It happens sometimes, you should have just gone into the stock recovery and did a factory reset. But it's too late lets move on...

As long as you can get to bootloader you can recovery the phone (as least that's my experience)

Yeah you made it worse, since it only loads to fastboot now, most likley you caused a problem with your recovery. But that's real easy to fix.

Where did you spend the $20? File Factory? An RUU shouldn't fail to the fix the problem. I would suggest you just unlock it, install a recovery and then your rom of choice. Even if it's just a rooted stock ROM.
If I was in your spot, I would do this.
1. Unlock Bootloader
2. Install TWRP - Do a factory reset, then wipe system.
3. Flash a custom rom
4. Boot into bootloader - fastboot flash boot boot.img.
5. Reboot

1. have done so
2. tried it as well as cwm, phone will not boot into a recovery, doing so just loads into the loop
3. tried without luck
4. tried this as well after flashing rom and still same problem
running the ruu removed the "tampered" message from bootloader as well as stopping the loop from loading into fast boot, it also removed the red developer text from popping up when booting. however the phone is back to its original problem of looping the htc quietly brilliant screen. ive run the ruu twice now without any change.
if the ruu cant fix the problem im doubtful messing around with custom roms will. there is clearly some kind of problem with the phone causing the loop. as far as i understand a ruu completely wipes all the data on the phone and reinstalls all the partitions from scratch.
ive just sent htc an email seeing if theyll cover it for warranty, hopefully they will stand behind their product, as i was not the cause of this problem...
i got the ruu from football, he is the one who posted the thread with all the stock ruu's and he was able to track down the proper one for my phone...

You're in a ****ty spot then. There might be one or two ways to still recover but it sounds like your chances are getting slimmer. I've seen a few other reports of completly stock One S's taking a ****. I hope HTC fixes it for you.
htc said this regarding unlocking the boot loader when i asked about coverage with my problem. looks like they may still cover it. im betting there gonna take the easy way out and just say its not covered when its all said and done though. ive read horrible things about htc customer service...
Not all claims resulting or caused by or from the unlocking of the bootloader may be covered under warranty. There are several possibilities of what may have caused this issue, that are covered by the warranty, in which the unlocking of the bootloader would not be a problem. We advise you to contact our tech specialists as they will let you know if this procedure will be covered by the warranty.

Hey guys, I installed CWM on my buddies HTC one S (ville) and I keep getting a weird problem with CWM. I have successfully flashed CM10 multiple times and have made only one back up. Every time his phone dies and he plugs it in and tries to power it on it boots straight to recovery and after you press reboot phone it boots right back to recovery again and again... The only way it fixes itself is when you restore the back up and then it sets him back to that date. I'm wondering if this is a problem with CWM or something else... I'm new to HTC devices because I have always been on the Galaxy line from Samsung so some of this is a little new to me...
Thanks in advance!!
This is a known glitch with CWM. If you plug it in when its off and try to turn it on, it'll automatically Boot into CWM Recovery. I prefer TWRP personally, had too many problems with CWM and getting into the same exact pain-in-the-neck Bootloop as you're referring to.
As far as I am aware, there isn't a way to get out of the CWM Bootloop unless you just let the phone run out of Battery, get into the Bootloader (Which is somewhat of a challenge with the CWM Bootloop), and then flash a different Recovery from Fastboot. Correct me if i'm wrong on there not being any other way around this.
It's happened to me once, I flashed the.stock boot.img and it worked fine.after that. Not sure if its a fix but it got me outta of it.

Thanks guys I think I'll try TWRP but just to check does CM10 work with TWRP and if so how do I flash a new recovery?
yes cm10 worx with twrp. For flashing recovery, download d appropriate recovery.img for ur device. place this in the fastboot folder or the platform-tools folder.
now, boot into bootloader and enter fastboot then connect phone to PC , it should say fastboot USB .
Now open a command window and use this command---
fastboot flash recovery recoveryname.img.

Cyanogenmod 10 does indeed work with TWRP as far as I know. Along with mihirengg19's Reply above, there is also an Alternative way to flashing a new Recovery, and that is to use the HTC One S All-In-One Toolkit. Its the easiest/safest way, if you don't know what you're doing.
yes toolkit is great but manually is best...

Weird.. This sounds like what happened to my phone the other night. I updated AdAway hosts file, did a reboot, walked away came back a few mins and saw the Liquid boot animation, then noticed it reboot then try to boot up, then reboot again, so I tried booting into TWRP and it did the same, tried to do a flash of a ROM and it rebooted within a few seconds. So I decided the only option was to try the RUU and luckily after that everything is back to normal. But with all the weird-ness going on in these threads with peoples phones, it was a true scare.
So many weird things with root on this phone that I've never heard/encountered before. I'm just gonna chill on clean ROM with sense 6 toolbox and lay low for a while w/o flashing hoping an explanation is made.

I really couldn't agree more! I feel like the carriers especially Verizon want total control of any device that's on their network.
Before long we are all going to be waiting for a jailbreak team to give us root on each update.:crying:

Maybe because they do? That's not exactly a secret... To varying degrees of course, with T-Mobile caring the least, and Verizon caring the most.
I found myself needing a backup phone so I dusted off my old HTC Inspire that has been put up for years. To make it more useful I wanted to put CM7 on it. I got the bootloader unlocked and clockwork recovery installed and flashed CM7 and GAPPS. My issue is that any time I power the phone it locks up on a white screen with the HTC logo and requires me to manually flash boot.img again to get my phone booted in CM7. Anybody have any ideas? Why would I have to flash boot.img every time I power or reboot my phone? Please help.
