[Q] Sorry to ask but Radio help please

I've searched and can't find a thread with stuff helpful to me. I would like a radio that will allow me to use 2G network. I live in rural Alaska and we have some crappy networks. I know it would probably work with factory settings, but I'd like to keep my phones custom rom Honeysense 6.2.2. I have been trying to make it work on the apn settings given to me by my provider but haven't succeeded. If someone out there has a solution please help.

You can use an app from the market to do it once you are rooted

Use Network. Towards the bottom, change the option to GSM Only.

1. "Sorry to ask but Radio help please" <-- Don't be sorry to ask. No one is going to flame u if ur efforts were genuine in searching first.
2. For ur question:
a. [User input] Go to wireless settings, and select 2G network
[System Action] This will turn off data, and re-enable it, but high chances (for me, its "always") still be on 3G/H
b. [User input] Go to network selection mode, and select manual
[System Action]This will present u with a list of networks to select (only one if u r on AT&T)
c. [User input] Select the network (AT&T if u r on AT&T)
This should now put the phone on 2G/EDGE network.
Warning: Since u r forcing this, there could be some patches (like when on certain areas when on road, etc) where u cud face loss of signal.

Using this app (this app is just a shortcut to the options in *#*#4636#*#*) many a times caused me a Phone process FC in an infinite loop (most recent one was y'day). The FC loop sometimes wasn't instantaneous, and started after ending a call and when the phone tried to get back to EDGE network.
Only way out was restoring from my previous nandroid backup. So I would be cautions.

[Q] Just got this phone and my data doesn't work?

Hi I just got this phone as a replacement for my Sony Ericsson X10a.
I have AT&T and when I try and use my data I can't connect I can only use Wifi I see "4g" by my signal up top but it doesn't work.
When I look at my access point names I see 4 of them.
AT&T US AAB
AT&T US HSDPA
AT&T US Tether
AT&T US MMS
To the left of them is a lock icon and they are locked.
3 of them are able to be toggled but none work.
So do i need to reenter the APN's? If so does someone have the inputs?
Also should I fix this is there a good data switch widget I can use for this phone?

Try this:
Go to Settings - > Battery and Data Manager - > Data Delivery
Make sure Data Enabled is checked.
I've had it mysteriously uncheck for me before on this phone.

Is the 4G symbol gray or blue in color?

Yes it's enabled.

It's is gray meaning no connection.

Go to About Phone - > Phone Status
What does it say under Signal Strength, Mobile Network Type, and Mobile Network state?

Problem solved was not an issues on my end AT&T did not register my replacement in the system so they thought I was still using an X10a. The Atrix 2 is now in the system and my phones data works!

Atat had to do the something basically they didn't recognize it then I called and enrolled me in there 4g data plan

Exactly the same thing I had happen. X10 finally flashed to death. They replaced it with ATRIX 2 but didn't change me over.

Not true... The blue indicates a connection to Google servers not to the internet, therefore you could still be connected to the internet if it's gray.

Problem with Skyrocket in india

Hi,
I have a galaxy skyrocket i727 from AT&T with last Gingerbread firmware(2.3.6 from at&t).Now i am in india.Recently i did a factory reset and now i have lost data connectivity(though i get full signal and can do calls or messages).
Even before i used to select frequency bands manually to swap between 2g-3g by dialling *#*#197328640#*#* and i used to get data fine.As there is no such option of selecting 'gsm only' or "wcdma preffered/gsm" in wireless&networks menu of the AT&T Firmware.
So the main question is if i put the unofficial ICS ROM like AOKP or UCALC4 than will i get this 2G to 3G selection in settings?Will the phone select indian frequency bands automatically?

You may have lost your apn and that's why you can't get data, check under settings mobile network apn if there is anything there(I think that's how it goes in GB) if there isn't check your provider's site or call them and ask how you should configure it.
About your second question, it depends on what rom you will flash, some support it and some don't.

My APN is ok.I requested new apn after deleting older ones and even did a manual "Add new apn" perfectly.Thats why i am asking this question ,because there is no reason for getting "no data".Everything is perfect except that there is no "E" or "H" symbol with up-down arrows beside the network strength bars!

Stupid question but did you enable data?

yeah dude!Obviously!
enabled - disabled it several times!rebooted after selecting apn etc etc But no good

Well sometimes we ignore the obvious so I had to ask. Check your apn again to be sure, make sure the internet apn and not mms apn is checked if you have 2, and it's defined as internet or internet+mms in case of one combined apn.
If this wont fix it something must have happened in the factory reset and you should try upgrading to ICS and see if it still works.

Hey.. BTW I have a question for you , how did you unlock your phone yo use it in India ? I know there are unlock codes, just curious if you got it from at&t or you had to go the eBay way ?

unlocked via z3x box....a tool used by unlockers.Had a friend of mine who owned it.It unlocks all samsungs for free!!

- You need to be SIM Unlocked and have a RAT Unlocked Radio (HINT: Roger I-727R radios)
and
- You need a ROM to support those, if you using TouchWiz I have supported this always from the beg. im my
ROM (see my sig.)
And I do travel there once a quarter, no issues for me. I have an IDEA Card and it works perfect, even ROAMING to 3G where IDEA piggy backs on other providers..

Thanks for the reply.I just flashed the sk8erwitskil,s Latest Cyanogenmod 9 with UCLF6 libs just to check if i was able to switch radios,but right now i am in "2G/gsm only" area.Data is working fine,but cannot turn on wifi...it keeps saying "turning on".
My phone is sure sim-unlocked on idea network,and on UCLF6 Modem(is this thing same as a "radio"?).Initially i was on stock at&t GB firmware.Btw ,which place in india do u travel?
If wifi error persists i will flash EMBRYO Rom

[Q] 3g issue

Hello there, i just got this phone 3 weeks ago and since i have wifi i didnt test the 3g conection before. i activated a data pack and i just realized that my 3g doesnt come on at all. the screen shows 4g left side of the signal strengh but it doesnt work at all. i got at&t version. i confirmed with my carrier and i did activate data, they even helped me to set up the apn but is still not working. can you helpe me? thanks!
PD: they said they couldnt have done more because they dont support that type of device

Does it say 4G or 4G LTE? The at&t icons are a bit different I'd you're not used to them.
4G = hspa
4G LTE = LTE
So if you're getting the 4G icon you are actually getting 3G hspa speeds.

If another carrier besides AT&T, you will need to find the APN settings for your carrier and manually enter it into Settings>Mobile network settings>Access point names. Select "New APN" and enter the correct settings for your manufacturer.
The 4G icon simply means a network is present, it doesn't mean you are connected to it.

thank you for helping people. whel actualy i wouldnt mind getting 3g network access, the point is that i dont have internet access at all. i called my carrier (Claro - El salvador) and they helped me to set up the apt but is still not working. i was wondering if there is something else i could try to fix this

nevermind, i finally fixed it

sorry. well, first i did master reset, once done i set up an apn (carrier provides you with this info), then went to mobile network > network operators > select automatically. once the device found the "CLARO" network i turned data on and got internet service.

I'm guessing you either had not entered the APN info exactly correctly the first time. Or also, after entering the APN you actually have to select it as the "active" one on the list of APNs (making sure it has the colored dot next to it). Maybe it did need a factory reset, but this shouldn't be necessary just to change APN.

S6 lte problem

I have a samsung galaxy s6(sm-G920F) on 5.1.1 non rooted, the problem i am facing is that the lte stopped working without any reason, i didnt drop it neither i updated anything it just stopped working now i only see the E sign on the network bar, i couldn't find any answer for this so any help is appreciated

You said your rom is not rooted? That probably means the default network settings for your phone is LTE/3G/2G. That option will look for the best signal you have in your current location, then it will choose that data network i.e., EDGE .
It seems like your 4g/LTE signal is weak on your vicinity Perhaps, if you could force LTE (by rooting and installing Advance Signal Status app from Playstore [Device Info >Set Preferred Network Type > LTE only) you can have at least lte reception. Unless, 4g is not available in your area
Try going outside your house, and find open spot and see if your device was able to detect it.
Just let me know if you still have some concerns. Cheers!

But if I insert my sim card in some other mobile i can see the lte sign on top :/
So it cant be the problem with the reception
& one of my friend uses the same simcard as mine
But he's able to use lte
I have tried the WCDMA only option
But cant get the lte sign
Please help me :/

So it cant be the reception which is causing troubles :/
I cant even connect to a 3g
It only connects to an EDGE :/

Same problem for me. Same galaxy s6 model and same original android version 5.1.1 (g920fxxu3q0kn)
From a couple of days it doesn't connect on lte. But the big problem is that if I choose lte/3g/2g it doesn't connect neither in 3g. I have to force it to 3g only to let the device connect back to internet.
I don't know why but when I came back home, if I switch back on lte/3g/2g, it connect back again on 3g (no lte in my home area)
I'm not sure if it is involved with transit in/out wifi spot or some kind of lte cells. I will try other tests next days
I fear it could be a bad bug
