iphone finger menu scrolling

Basically I wasn't overly impressed when I saw the iphone in terms of what it did, because it doesn't do anything my WM5 doesn't. the only thing I was impressed at was the interface, the total touch screen etc(altho it is missing a qwerty key board which I couldn't live with out). One part of the touch screen interface that I was the most impressed with was the finger dragging, scrolling! But this can be done on WM5 devices because I've already downloaded Sygic's .mobile which allows you to do it through your contacts.
So Basically I'm sure that one of the many clever programmers on here could write a little program that allows you to use finger scrolling where ever a scroll bar is needed? I.e. file emplorer, music menu(windows media player), text message list, photos, etc.
Or if someone knows where I could get such a program from?
Thanks
this would be sweet because we windows fans wouldn't have to convert to the darkside.
just like the early dayds of apple.....microsoft swoops in and reinvents the game. but only thing it aint microsoft doing this.
why buy a new phone when u can take the guts of it and dump it into your own
good job on the programers you guys rock.
Check this video out, the guy has done just that!
http://techdigest.tv/2007/02/watch_the_iphon.html
I've seen that video already, but thanks. it was that and the program .mobile that made me hope that someone on here would be able to do it for the rest of the windows mobile platform! if I was talented enough I'd do it myself but this is way beyond me. i just think it would be a great to be able to navigate menus and list and make life a lot easier.
Can we download it from somewhere?
Download What?
that GUI seen on that video.
the best program to make it look like that is wisbar desktop but it costs! has for the menu scrolling i haven't got a clue thats why i was hoping someone may be able to write a program on here for it

Agree, i used the wisbar advance, but the scrolling gui was amazing!
I am wondering how he did it?
it was, but i don't know how he did it! i know you can down load a program called .mobile and that allows you to scroll through your contact like that, so it clearly can be done! so someone must be able to do it for the rest of the phone?!??!
What is it that can or can't be done guys?
Picsel Browser uses momentum based full screen drag scrolling, amongst other apps. It's not a difficult thing to do. The implementation in the video is particularly nice (if not particularly useful IMHO), but it's not some kind of mystical voodoo. It's just programming.
V
vijay,
I don't think you would be capable of doing this, no way....
(ps: please, please rise to the challenge!)
On a serious note the Universal lacks a scroll wheel which I have always had on my previous PDAs. To be able to have a generic touchscreen based scrolling mechanism would be very useful (ie not just for tracks and contacts, but for everything).
Can anyone post a link to the download of this?
slider lock feature.....
Guys,
According to his website, before it was suspended...
He says he was using
PPL1.20. PPL which can be downloaded for free from http://arianesoft.ca
I downoaded this but have no idea on how to use it to get the same results?
Anyone interested in getting the slider lock portion of that video working?

As explained by Vijay this is just programming. If you dont have programming skills, just forget it. If you do then the technical part is not that difficult. The whole point is more about doinga nice design
Anyway let's hope he will make is work public (The scrolling bar is one thing, but the whole setup is actually nice...)
If anyone has this (doubt the guy gave it out before he got shut down) but in case he did... i would like to get my hands on this...
the point of me starting this thread was to see if anyone on here knew where I could get a program that would allow me to scroll all the menus and lists in my WM5 by dragging my finger across the screen, if there wasn't already a program out there then I wondered if someone could write a program for it? as my skills in this area are nowhere near good enough! I think a program like this with look great but more importantly be really useful, as I use my finger to navigate through most of my phone.
if this is just programing, please can someone with the skills do it????
Thanks

X51v Games!

OK I would really appreciate it if somebody would be kind enough to help me out. I am a huge gamer (I already have Pocket Wolf, SOD, DoomGLES, Quake and all its expansions, Quake 3, and Pocket Duke3D) but I still need a little help finding more games I want.
Fist of all i found Pocket Duke3D but I honestly cant figure out the control scheme, I understand how you can change the Duke3D file in the txt editor and I even got it to go to landscape view but I keep hearing conflicting ideas on how to set up the buttons. I did a lot of research but there was no definite answers and most of the post were from like 3 years ago. Almost all the links the I can find that talks anything about it are dead, and I find it hard to believe that the version I have is the final version that anyone has worked on. I would love it if there was an accelerated version that I don't know about.
So then I was reading on a forum where somebody talked about Pocket Hexen and Heretic. These were both close to being my favorite games when I was little, but unfortunately every time I do a search for a download all i get is a dead link. Also the only screens that I have seen of these games has an on board keyboard. I doubt I could play those games with an on board keyboard that small. So I'm thinking there has to be an upgraded version of those games (hopefully accelerated) as well because those versions must of been completely unplayable.
So what I'm doing here people is imploring you to look into the depth of you heart and help out a man in desperate need of pocket entertainment. Please if you have any idea of where i might find any of these games, or others that I might not of heard of PLEASE post them on this thread. If you do i will forever be grateful!

I already have one of those too! LOL everything I own is geared toward gaming. I'm just a little bit obsessed, I bet you can imagine how much my wife loves that.
I also use it for school and work stuff too, but mostly gaming!
Ok so I finally found a pokect hexen I could download and it was an .exe file, which I thought was wierd becaus I figured I would have to add my .wad file to get it to work, but anyways whenever i run it its DOS based and it says
connecting to window CE... Sucess
Creating\Hexen
and then it just freezes. I tried to extract the .cad file from it but i guess this is one of thoes files you cant pick apart! Also I'm not having any luck with Wargus all the links seem to either be in Russian or they are dead. I dont think God wants me having anmyore ppc games!

1, you don't miss much with Pocket Hexen as it doesn't support the 2700G - that is, no hardware 3D acceleration, unlike in Quake Mobile, DoomGLES, Cuve3D etc.
2, do check out my gaming-related articles, I've reviewed ALL the 2700G-enabled games and emulators and most Pocket PC games / emulators. You'll find them VERY useful.

Yup, the PSP is decidedly better for gaming (much better controls, more games, much better screen, particularly in Landscape etc.). However, the PPC platform also has some VERY good games - for example, Orions.

Yeah but I've been gaming since back when all I had was a 286 with no sound card, and I knew I just had to buy a sound card so I could hear the "Awesome" sound in Wolf3D. So Im really loving all of these oldies but goodies because they dont offer anyhting like that on my PSP.
Also I've already looked at the accelerated game list that you have for X51v it was VERY helpful, I have most of them installed, I found them when i was reading up on DoomGLES back like 4 months ago, now im looking for the classics, IE Hexen, Heretic, i even read somwhere they were making a heretic 2 (that project has probably been abandoned too), but my problem is all the links are dead!! ARG!
if it's on the internet i can find it
http://www.mobile2day.de/partner/111/details.php?pid=3,921,966,967,6214
sure it's a german site but the links are not dead
links to hexen in the buttom too
but it does seem to suffer from the onscreen keyboard
ps. my duke3d setup works just fine with buttons and screen on himalaya
never liked Heretic and hexen much though well i loved Heretic mp but only because i could turn
my friend into a chicken and trample him and there would be feathers everywhere!
hexen dident seem to have that option and tried to be more rpg'ish in which it failed

Ok thanks to Rudegar I finally found both hexen and heretic and I was super excited but now that I install them neither one of the will work!! I KEEP GETTING THE STUPID ERROR MESSAGE W_InitFiles: no files found. From all the research I've done I think they are saying that there is a problem with the name of the wad files, BUT NOTHING IS WRONG WITH THE NAME OF MY WAD FILES!! i downloaded the shareware version right form the same website, i even made sure the had the same names that were on the README files! I REALLY THINK GOD HATES ME! Can sombody PLEASE HELP ME!?!?!
Ok i got Pocket Hexen Working....HAHA AND HERETIC NOW TOO!! I had to tool around with it for a little bit but I figured it out! Is there anyways to put these games on landscape mode, and to get rid of the supid keyboard when you dont need it??
ALSO THANKS Rudegar SO MUCH FOR THE HELP!!

The thread you linked had a lot of cracked / regged apps / games.
This is sort of off-topic, but I remember being excited by the vast difference between the PC Speaker and Sound Blaster 16 sound effects in Wolfenstein 3D. Ah, I remember when the question wasn't whether to use onboard audio or a good sound card, but rather whether to have a sound card or just use the PC speaker.
I miss playing Master of Orion.. I wonder if there is a good game like that for the X51v. MoO 3 was not very good, unfortunately, and I'm tired of playing MoO 2.

1. Yeah, Wolf3D, back in 1992, was REALLY cool on a stereo soundcard like the SB Pro because of the stereo digitized voice helping a lot finding out where are you shot at from.
2. Did you check out my MS-DOS Emulation Bible on whether MoO can be emulated under WinMo?

Wow people are still writing on my thread I thought this thing was dead, so what is this MS0-DOS Emulation Bible you speek of? Is there any way of playing the old DOS based Sierra games on my PDA like Kings Quest or Quest for Glory, I think I'd give on of my kindneys if thats what it would take to make that happen!
Also does anyone know any good tutorials on Wargus on you'r PPC, I've got the game to work, I learned how to save, I just can't figure out the stupid sound. and I can't find anything thats either not in Russian or like 3 years old.
This is awesome!
i got both to work, however when i tried to change the controls through the .cfg file the way i would with doom, it just messed up the controls even more, making left and right now strafe left and right. I'm not able to set any values like i was on doom. for example I tried to make Fire the windows key, but that didnt work.
Is there a source code avaible? I know some people who may be able to fix it up!

The latest Bing App is [email protected]!

Don't bother to upgrade to Bing 5.0.11249.0: it is pure bling. They have made the interface "prettier" but took away alot of the functionality. Not only does it not give proper "live" feedback for turn-by-turn directions, a good part of the map is covered by icons that you can't move, especially in landscape mode. Movie and other searches are also far more tedious.
This is definitely a downgrade. But why?! Google has upped the ante on GPS software and it looks like if MS has folded. Come on, guys - get real! Fumbles like this one will surely doom the windows platform!
I unfortunatly agree with you
The graphics face lift is welcome, but everything else is crap.
I agree too.
Me too... One of the best functions of the old version was the ability to SMS the search results to someone... cant do that.
It also shuts off the screen... even if you're in GPS mode. Cannot do long/lat as before, doesnt tell how many sats you're seeing... it is exactly what you guys said... crap.
I thought I had a copy of the latest old build somewhere but I dont... anyone care to help?
Found the old one... "Normality has been restored"

Because of this things that I like sites that archive old versions. Like OldVersion
Go to m.bing.com and follow the links to the older versions and choose either the WM5 or the WM6 version, not the WM6.1 or 6.5.

Great find!
Thanks!
trudat,
but what do you guys think about the voice recognition?
I think Windows Mobile Marketplace still has the old version. The old version is 4.x, the new is 5.x
I could be mistaken but I think the voice recognition engine is the same in the old version and new version. I didn't have any issues with 4.x voice recognition.
It could also be the fact that 5.x is in beta. I would give MS the benefit of the doubt, they are trying. I would use the Feedback option in Help to give MS some constructive criticism
VR seems to work the same. No major improvements there. I hope this beta will lead to something else more significant, but I'm not holding my breath.
I never really used the voice recognition cause it never really worked too well. I let my fingers do the talking
Que?
On my Kaiser it works fine for a while like for many people, and then suddenly says my Phone isn't supported. WTF? But OK, I too will happily downgrade, as it really doesn't appear to be any better than the previous version. I'd beg to differ with those who say the speech recognition doesn't work though. I find it one of the best things about WLS/Bing. It works absolutely amazingly well. But then you do need to speak clearly. I use it with a BT headset too, great results.
Yeah, despite apparently working fine, it quits automatically on my Kaiser saying it isn't supported. Oh well.
Played around with a bit on a coworker's TP, and it's definitely a mixed bag. It's very nice-looking, and I'm impressed how it integrates Bing's "pic of the day" styling. Really nice-looking.
It is definitely less functional in many ways. The gas price finder never worked for me anyways (prices were never up-to-date and correct around here), but the theatre listings would definitely be missed. Luckily there's other apps for that.
It IS, however, better for web searches. In fact, it's surprisingly useful for web searches, since it seems a little snappier than using bing.com (or google.com, for that matter) in the browser. Hopefully MS tacks some of the better local search functions back on.

SlideIT, Swype or Shapewriter?

I've been using SlideIT for the last couple of months and really like it. I tried Swype, but it seemed slower and not as responsive as SlideIT. I was wondering of anybody who has tried all 3, which do you like best?
I've used Swype for 2 months and SlideIt for 10 minutes. Swype accuracy is very high and learns new vocabulary quickly and seamlessly. Swype interface looks fancier, however, it utilize more screen room therefore making less viewing space of a document. I definitely appreciate the smaller space requirement for SlideIT. I uses the comma character frequently so SlideIT attracts me with this standout feature.
I just discover that SlideIT do not seperate the words with each lift of my finger/stylus. +1 for Swype.
This is all i have for now.
SlideIT is the Best keyboard !!!
SlideIT is the best way to enter text for my 5530. Two of the main reason I like it are that it allows the qwerty to be displayed in portrait mode. and that it supports Spanish wonderfully. Half of my texts are sent in Spanish, and it has performed beautifully so far.
SlideIT is built for other hardware while Swype is especially built for Samsung Omnia II. Due to screen resolution, Swype may not be 100% compatible to other devices.
I have been testing Shapewriter and generally like it, but I prefer Slideit. The tap mode is more flexible and I like the graffiti portion. The intuitive is easier to modify and affect.
I installed Swype a couple of weeks ago and imediately thought it was the best ever and that it would be VERY hard to do better. I just installed the SlideIT demo tonight and have to say that I think I like it better. It seems every bit as accurate, even with sloppy slides/swipes. I like the layout for the predicted text better in SlideIT and I like the fact that the backspace takes out the last slided/swiped word.
I think I like the keyboard layout and appearance of Swype better and it just happens to match my current theme. I'm not sure yet if I'll buy SlideIT since I'm perfectly happy with my free illegal version of Swype. I do like the fact that SlideIT has a developer that is selling the product to customers and not just to an OEM, which hopefully means improvements, updates, and the ability to submit recommendations for improvements to future updates.
Swype has a very good product but they are going to miss the train as other developers, willing to sell their product to customers, pass them by. It's hard get increasing numbers of customers when you limit your product to an OEM. The best thing to happen to Swype was that it was ripped from the Omnia II and distributed via multiple forums: free advertising and hype. Had the developers moved on that they could of had a frenzy of sales.
Moved as not software release..
I highly doubt that Swype is going to be released for other devices as well, than just the Samsung Omnia II.
When i heard that Nokia and Samsung are investing money (5.6 million US dollars) into Swype, i had a bad feeling about this.
I think - or let's say - i could imagine that Nokia is going to buy Swype completely and then manage it for a Symbian-only software.
Finally, i hope Swype will get released for all possible operating systems on mobile devices.

The fact that all (7) of your posts on here have been regarding SlideIt wouldn't indicate any possible bias though would they?
It also seems that the app is time limited without any description of this in the market aside from the word 'lite' and there is no paid version available currently.
That said i'm finding it better than Swype, especially for tap-typing and the swype multiple word selection system is rubbish, this one takes the sensible route of copying HTC The graffiti system however is pointless and only ever outputs numbers or symbols at the moment - but why have this at all when almost every android phone is capacitive? Drawing a letter with your finger is much much much slower and less accurate than tapping the correct key or swyping (swype wins on the name by far btw), you should drop it from the program to make it smaller and faster to load (though that's fine as it is anyway)
I liked Swype's accuracy and how it learns new vocabulary quickly!
Have Swype and SlideIt on my phone. Discovered Swype first last year but have since shifted to SlideIt this year. Shifted because I can add words are are not it it's dictionary faster.
Having a Wildfire kinda limits my options - Swype doesnt do QVGA and Slideit does.
I have run Swype on the wildfire though, and although I prefer the 'look' of the swype keyboard, slideit works much better (on my slow phone!).
I prefer Swype for my HD2, but where is it!?
I had a ripped Swype version once, via XDA-developers, but it stopped working after a while. Every other swype version I've tried for my HD2 made me lose all my emailadresses and internet plus wifi connections, so I had to do a hard reset every time.
I've paid for SlideIt and had it for a while, but it's not nearly as accurate and responsive on my HD2. It also makes my emails "freeze" sometimes halfway through, so all i can do when that happens, is press "send". So I'm back to using the standard keyboard again.
I heard about 'shapewriter' and started looking, but it's no longer available for Windows Mobile. Is this all a "plot" to get people off WM or something? Why isn't there a GOOD swyper/slider like Swype available for WM 6.5? The only ones available make my HD2 lose all connections. I would really like to PAY for Swype, I don't want to get it illegally. Yet each time I try a .Cab, it's a bad one. I would even settle for just an English version without the Dutch dictionary (which I would need).
But no such luck. Like this one: http://www.jayceooi.com/2010/02/21/download-swype-v3-9-for-htc-hd2/
It all looks rather "official". I had it on my HD2 for a few minutes because it was too big, it didn't slide very well and I wanted to look for an older version. But again, everything was messed up, I had to do a hard reset *again*.
Why can't we just all BUY a working Swype instead of these ripped versions that may do damage of "plant" things on your device? Or is Android becoming more and more like Apple, locking the market like that, not being open with their "apps" for all platforms and all devices? Shouldn't there be a law against this kind of unfair competition?
I used Shapewriter on a Nexus One, and it was nice,
other than for entering passwords for which it was hopeless
(no shift key).
But Shapewriter has not been updated for high-res screens, so the kbd is too small for the GNex.
That leaves SlideIT.
But when you look at the permissions SlideIT requires - well, how far can I spit a rat?

EZ Input 2.0 + Swype + Sipchanger

Hello Everyone,
I went searching for EZ Input after I upgraded from my Asus P565 device. I didn't realize it at the time but EZ Input 1.5 which I had been using with my P565 worked well on the P565 however because the TG01 lacks a hardware d-pad you can not navigate through the word possibilities well. So I went searching.
I tried all the various flavors of EZ Input 2.0+ however all of the EZ Inputs after 2.0 have word addition issues and if people got it to work then it was not as simple to add a word as EZ Input v1.5. You always have to deliberately click on add word and blah blah blah, it just wasn't as simple as clicking on space, and I need the buttons on the bottom of the screen to function as my D-PAD so i can not downgrade to 1.5. Simply put, I didn't like the new EZ Input virtual keyboards. I desperately wanted a T9 keypad for my TG01 when I am riding my motorcycle and I obviously only have one hand free so I can not use Swype to type Or seriously when I am on a straightaway... and I do have two free hands, a beer is obviously much better to hold than a stylus, because I don't wear a helmet, it is easy to drink, I get thirsty on those long drives home.. needless to say, I was depressed with the predicament I was in.... but... then... like a bee flying into my eyes at 200k/h ... I quickly found a solution, I am sure many people know this already. It never hurts to re-state a little.
EZ Input 2.0 works perfectly on the TG01 and the word addition is as easy as typing in a word and then clicking the space button and then it will remember it for next time, it is nice, and beautiful. It is better than "Cootek TouchPal Virtual Keyboard v4.0"... i should know, I bought it, and EZ 2.0 is much quicker and more responsive for sure.
Also, I have tried all of the Swype versions that work on the TG01 and there seems to be a very serious lag issue with the new versions of it. I found one that works flawlessly. It is version "v3644:3645" (weird version number, but that is what is says on the screen). The coolest thing is that I happened to find them both in one happy package on http://www.megaupload.com/?d=B3NM7BJS .So check it out, I am sure this information is already out there somewhere, but I had a hell of a time finding it, so if someone else finds this useful, I am happy!
OHHH Don't forget to use Sleuth255's SIP Changer so you can set your virtual keyboard to whatever the heck ya want it to be. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=271008. I like Sleuth... you da man man... ehhehehe... honestly do not know what I would have done had it not been for the SIP Changer, just brings a nice finishing touch to yer input thingiez. HEY.. Also for the crazy people who also use CE-Star cuz ya happen to live in Mongolia like me. Make sure if you install it under windows mobile 6.5 and above that you do not install the handwriting component. Yulll mess up yer Windows Mobile, and pull out yer hair, I can promise you that. I quickly found a solution, I am sure many people know this already. It never hurts to re-state a little

Even I'm not a biker and it is not quite clear to me, but what a heck are you talking about:
-no helmet on bike?
-drinking beer on straightways, even on bike?
-driving at 200km/h?
OMG I'm sure you're living in (motorists)heaven, no matter what you mean...
Really, (it's not easy to say for me, but) I envy you!!!
Cheers!!!
dude i ride a bike - its my fav thing, but you gotta wear a helmet & leathers, cos if you fall..... once you have the saftery gear you can make more speed than 200
