[Q] Great Big Yellow Droid Binary Downloads?!? - Samsung Infuse 4G

Well I turned off my phone today to stop a download of some binary that started while I had my phone in my shirt pocket at the doctors office today. Anyone have any clues as to how that download started and what it was? I stopped it mid download by powering off the phone and rebooted before it could actually start installing whatever it was. The phone rebooted just fine and is working with no apparent problems but I'd sure like to prevent that from happening again!

Wrong forum. Belongs in the Q&A section.

And that's all? No clue about what happened to my phone? You could have just reported the post to get it moved (which it was) without posting a completely unnecessary response that had nothing to do with the question! :good: Good Job Sport!

Ok so I apparently did something with my nipple to put the Infuse into download mode in my shirt pocket. Guess I'll just have to be more careful about that in the future.

LOL! Well I'm new round here. I figured SOMEONE would know about the great big yellow droid screen and binary downloads and what they were for. I found the answer by searching on "Accidental Download Mode" here in the forums.

Glad you figured it out. Being new you'll find that searching the forums and doing some reading like you did to find your answer is gonna help you the most. Once that is exhausted, the kind folks here are usually more than happy to offer their knowledge and expertise to help you fix your problem. Most issues already have an answer and solution like you discovered...although there are the occasional weird things that boggle the mind

Well I'm no stranger to the search function but from the title of my thread it should have been quite obvious that I was so Newbish that I didn't even know I was in Download Mode. Just telling me that would have given me the keywords to search on. Sometimes a little nudge isn't too much to ask.

Firstly, this plus one.
I'm assuiming you mean on the latest gbread leak ee03?
Now, I don't think its a missing feature, but rather something about the status bar is broken. If you notice while you are in the music player app, the icon for the music player controls pops up in the status bar, but pull the bar down and its gone. And as soon as you leave the music app the icon disappears as I'm sure you're aware.
I believe its the status bar and not the app that's the problem since the same symptoms occur with the fm radio (haven't tried pandora yet)...even tho fm radio is borked lol

#1 - If I Made a mistake and posted in the wrong section or incorrectly, somebody could have simply let me know, and not tried to attack me, or make comments that were not needed. It takes respect to get respect.
#2- If 1 person has already addressed the situation, why are the rest of you waisting your time and energy to say the same stuff the last person said.

The easiest way is to back up all your stuff and flash this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058042
Its a rooted Stock ROM with the update.
That or flash any of the ROM's from the Dev section.
I should add that once you download it, rename it PD98IMG.zip and put in the root of your SDcard. Check MD5 Sums and if they match up, power down your device, then boot into hboot (vol down + Power).
Let the bootloader find the image and then volume up to update.
Thanks for the help! You would think being an A+ and DELL certified computer technician, I could figure this Android stuff out but it's a whole different world. I appreciate the help and look forward to many more here.

True, you do have a slight point but I've noticed that the search around here works about as well as every other forum. You do a search for something and you get hundreds of results that have no bearing on what you actually searched for.

Quite true. There are also people who are well aware of the browser version of the sites two search boxes, and long for the day when the XDA app will be a fully functional alternative.
XDA is a lot quicker for reading, but can't do some important tasks that are important to a serious XDA member...

For the most part, I see those posts get answers anyways. Even if it isn't from a frustrated veteran, there usually someone that just learned it themself that is willing to help. Trust me, I understand the frustration, but when you go to the stickies and see the guides and videos say they are outdated, you start to wonder if the answer you found is outdated too. I think many find it more reasurring if they can get a more current and direct answer.

The only reason they are outdated, is because the hack, gets updated once a month, and its one version 11 so there would need to be at least 11 videos, for each version of the hack kit, which would require unrooting the phone then downloading the hack kit (every time), then making a video. That is pretty time consuming.
The reason the outdated videos are posted, is an effort to educate people, on what they are doing, even if the hack kit has changed a little bit it still gives you a general idea of how it works.
With that said, this very topic, is covered in the f.a.q. of the guide, I updated about 3 weeks ago when the ota update came out, and there was 4 threads saying "my update failed and I'm rooted".
Apparently I do not know how to read.

[Q] Cellular South Samsung Galaxy Showcase Problem, Need help.

Ok, well I have completely jacked up my phone from where I updated using Odin..I flashed my phone through a vibrant rom or whatever and now it was in t-mobile, then I flashed it through a fasinate rom or whatever and now its in version. I am looking for the original Samsung Galaxy S Showcase rom or whatever I need to get my phone back to CS and to its orginal state. Can somebody help me?
Check your PM
And don't EVER flash ROMs for other phones.
Seriously? What is it about showcase users that they think they can flash whatever the hell they want and there won't be problems?

I am not posting random ****, I thought the post was funny, so I responded as such. I shouldn't have mentioned the part about the spam but whatever.
And in response to the comment about why people install ROM's for other phones, yea it's not necessarily smart to do so, but for the most part these forums are not exactly noobie friendly . . .
I am not new to the world of linux, I have been a user of various distros on my personal machines and work servers since 2006. I am coming from the world of webOS, where I did a little development in my sparse spare time, webOS had a lot of promise, but did not have the community nor the rapid pace of development that android has, so I finally switched.
I have found that, through no intentional fault of the community members here, entry into the world of Android homebrew has been somewhat intimidating, mainly because of the terminology that you all use. I have looked, but still don't know what many of the acronyms stand for. It has a high "entry cost," which it probably should otherwise you would have every joe schmoe trying to flash their phones with various experimental roms. (well apparently they do that anyway) But perhaps a glossary of terms could be helpful somewhere for those of us that got to the party late but could still be of some help once we catch up).
And to the guy who started this thread: don't do something until you have read about it sufficiently enough to be sure that it will work. Going backwards is often alot more difficult than spending the time to do it right in the first place. I have learned this lesson the difficult way a number of times (I am not the most prudent person with stuff, i like to shoot from the hip and have shot myself in the foot a number of times)
So a glossary similar to this which is stickied in this thread?

I kind of like the fact that these forums are not dumb down it makes the learning curve steeper but I learn more that way not just the hows but also the whys. I spent two months reading this and other forums before I flashed my first ROM. I find the things I work the hardest for I learn the best and all the information is here sometimes you just have to dig for it. IMHO like
That's the spirit! Look at you! Nub of the year!
I was the same way honestly. I was very hesitant before ever doing anything to my phone first time around.
Haha its a first with android! I am more along the lines of coding firmware for PSN and jtagging xbox 360 consoles! I am a nub at this haha
I am in the same boat
I did the same thing to my showcase with the exception that I downloaded (from a different forum) learned my lesson, a odin file that was listed for cellular south showcase and when I flashed it it turned out to be for a Tmobile vibrant and now I only get errors when the modem bin tries to load in oden. Kinda hosed at this point!
Any Ideas on this would me much appreciated!!!

Bricked Device HELP Pleeasssee.... OP7P

Hello Everybody, I'm new to this specific site so I apologize in advance if I posted this in the wrong forum section. I have a OP7P that I was running BlissRom. Today I decided to check out the EX kernel app. After installing. There was a pop-up that said "There is an Kernel update would you like to update mow, so I accepted and it asked me to reboot, like always after a system flash. And it's boots into Fastboot. I tried everything from Selecting Start to selecting recovery. To holding Vol and power buttons and Fastboot is where it goes no matter what. So I said at least it's in Fastboot. I'll just reflash the TWRP img file. Then. I noticed I was in trouble when my PC didn't detect the device at all. I plugged another device into the cable to make sure the cable was good and it was. So I ran Fastboot devices command and No devices detected rebooted it back into Fastboot. Tried it again and same thing. Someone please tell me I'm not totally screwed. I've bricked phones on a few occasions and always have gotten them back. This is my personal device. Fingers crossed my kids didn't just get a new frisby. Thanks everyone in advance!

Kind of ignorant to be calling people idiots when they follow the same process theybalways have to update their ROM and things go south. Not every method works for the same device.

Never called anybody idiot brother and if you are older than twelve you should be familiar with the terminology and context of which I used idiot proof. Rather than giving answers that can be easily found why not promote the use of the search function? If we continue to just give answers these forums will continue to be full of meaningless space keeping threads like this one that only point you to another thread while the useful information gets pushed out.
There's a reason we didn't make all A's from teachers giving us all the answers or you don't just tell you're kids to listen to you count to 100 or sing the ABCs and it's because we wouldn't learn jack ish. Your reply was less helpful than mine. I stated that the threads were available hoping the OP attempts to use the search feature to find them. You just made the most useful tool (SEARCH) obsolete.

I check the questions and answers regularly to see if I can assist someone but the questions and answers forum is only filled with "Bricked" threads of which non are unique to anything posted in the Mega Unbrick and MSM Tool thread. True. Nah, I'm just coming from OP's point of view. I've rooted my tablet and other phones and have never come close to bricking a device besides this one. I got all the way down to the Qualcomm crash dump message. I was so frustrated. All I did was literally download an update ROM build and applied it the exact same way I had the previous build, but something messed up along the way. I tried different methods til I finally found that All-in-One tool. I tried all the others and they didn't work for me.
Anyway, my bad for being rude. I know I'm not dealing with the typical YouTube type of people here
SMH.

I literally said that I'm new to XDA and I'm not apart of any other forums or websites, and for one I looked up unbricking this device. None of them had an issue with their computer detecting their device in Fastboot mode. Therefore I reached out for help. The real problem is that people are so bored and have nothing to do that they just complain about other people's threads. What's the point in having a forum on this subject if you can't use it without dealing with this **** I could have done without a smartass response. If you missed the part where I stated that the USB-C port was not functional in Fastboot mode. Then please read my entire thread before adding input. I see your a senior member. I respect that and you probably have tons of knowledge that could be useful. So you should want to encourage instead of downgrade people for their questions. This hobby is slowly dying. Help the younger crowd. Theyre gonna be afraid to ask questions if they feel the experienced guys are gonna make them feel stupid. No disrespect I just didn't see the point in your response and with my bricked device having something uncommon from the other threads. I still feel that my question was a valid ask for help
Thanks!
Thanks Knightsriot

Could've just used fail-proof or other terminology, Hulk Hogan. No need to be passive aggressive to people are getting the hang this device.
This is the first time I've triggered a neckbeard. Nice.

True. Nah, I'm just coming from OP's point of view. I've rooted my tablet and other phones and have never come close to bricking a device besides this one. I'm glad there's still people out there who are willing to help. Update on the problem. I got frustrated with it and went to bed. It died overnight and when I plugged it in the next morning by the grace of God it decided to boot into TWRP 3.3.1-79. Where I had done a backup a few days prior! ?. I do have another quick question. I'm back on stock OOS 10.3.2 running renovate Ice. How come none of the changes I make in the rice tweaks app will actually change. None of them. Sorry in advance if this is a "stupid" question
